My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary a few nights ago and the food was incredible. We've never had Indian food before so it's safe to say that Taj Grill changed our lives for the better. We ordered the Taj sampler. I usually don't eat fried foods but I couldn't help myself. I gave myself a tummy ache but it was worth it. The flavors were perfect. My boyfriend, usually picky, LOVED everything. I ordered the tandoori fish and it was the best broiled fish I've ever had that wasn't home-cooked. I thought this place was pretty good. Went on a Saturday for the lunch buffet. The oven was down, so instead of naan we got roti which was fine. There were some south Indian things like sambar and Idly which you don't normally see at the other lunch buffets. The sambar was a bit thin for me though. Good variety with multiple meat dishes. Had rice pudding and chai tea for dessert. Based on other reviews, would have liked to try the mango lassi, but maybe next time. read more

Went here on a date last week on a Friday. I was surprised I was able to be immediately seated at 7pm on a Friday, but then again the place was only half full. The host asked if we'd prefer a table or booth, which was courteous of him. The service to start was fast and efficient before our meal started, but slowed down when we were finished with our meal. We ordered the lamb samosas (meat was sort of dry), garlic naan (cooked perfectly soft and crispy at the same time and not too much garlic), and the chicken tikka masala (chicken was a little on the dry side and seemed like it had been sitting for a while). I was not very impressed with the heat level of the "hot", and I think I would get the "very hot" next time. I would a variety of dishes here when I come back maybe for the lunch buffet. read more

I loved the relaxed atmosphere, our waitress was attentive and even obliged by helping me charge my cell phone since we were traveling back to NJ! My fiancée and I are vegan. This restaurant has an extensive vegetarian menu and will accommodate vegan preferences where possible. The food is full of flavor and spice levels were perfect. The service is excellent and the wine list is just ok but a step above the boxed wine available at other similar restaurants. We will be back often. read more

I want to give a 0 star, but no option I see. This is the worst Indian food I ever had, food quality is too bad, it seemed like food has been cooked few days back and they have reheated and served. Food was delicious. Had a yellow vegetarian daal, goat byriani, garlic naan, and some pickled mango and lime. Service was prefect and inside is clean and accommodating for a plaza location. Nice location, very nice ambience and polite staff. Unfortunately not so great food that one can expect. We had a 6 ppl dinner at this place and was not very satisfied with food quality. Chicken biryani was left over chicken kabab mixed with pulav rice. Paneer kadhai was lightly boiled veggies mixed in weird tomato gravy and there was hardly any jeera in jeera aalo. Only thing ok ok was dal makahani. And I think any north Indian restaurant can't even make a dal makhani properly shouldn't exist.. Over all an on experience. read more

Absolutely the best Indian food in Buffalo hands down. Their curries are thick and flavorful and their rice is soft and fragrant. Every curry is an explosion of different spices that leaves your mouth watering for more, the staff are very nice and are at your service. We had butter chicken, garlic naan (mmmm..), lamb and mushroom curry (very savory and the meat is very well cooked) and chilli chicken, three totally different curries but each delectable in its own way. Been here several times now and the food has always been great. I never leave hungry. The buffet is great and offers many choices for both veggie and meat eaters. I think most would agree Taj Grill is the best Indian restaurant in Buffalo. Granted, I came not for the AYCE buffet which is usually all I go to Indian places for. I ordered the Lamb Xacuti - curry made with roasted coconut and red chilies. It had a good amount of spice and great flavor. Also note, check-in gets you free rice pudding dessert. Would not recommend. I ordered food to go. I was told it would take 45 minutes for the order to be ready. I told them I would wait in my car and to call me when its ready - the guy said he would. After 45 minutes I came in the place and asked about my order - it was sitting there (for who knows how long) I said how come no one called me? A different guy now said, 'we don't call anyone!' For what I ordered - one order Chicken Tikka Masala and one order of garlic naan - it cost over $20.00! I could not believe how dried out the naan was - it was so old and dry, you could barely chew it - it was awful. I have eaten Indian food all over the world - and this along with the C.T.Masala which also was not good (the sauce was so thick you could not even put it on your naan) - the whole meal was awful and I would never go here again. I was brought here for the first time by some friends who are from India, and who suggested this place as the best Indian restaurant in Buffalo. I found the food to be simply delicious, and went back many more times. My personal favorites so far are the chicken tandoori (incredibly flavorful and tender), the butter naan, and especially the paneer dishes. I tried also a couple of curries (goat and chicken) and found those very good, too. The absolute worst Indian food I've ever had. The fig lassi was a poorly thought out chunks-at-the-bottom unmixed semi-suspension, the Madras goat curry was over cooked and an under-garnished gooey mess and the garlic naan was dry, chewy and tasteless. Definitely worth avoiding. read more

The moment I walked in the atmosphere was already set. It didn't take long to know I was in for a treat as Pavan was already recommending what food he thought would work as great combos. If you would have told me a month ago that I would be eating indian food, much less once a week I would have laughed at you. Taj Grill made my previous experience a distant memory. The staff is friendly and fun. The food is wonderful and I cannot get enough. Only gripe is that I asked for a side of tamarind with my naan and they said I couldn't get it because I didn't order an appetizer. I even offered to pay for it. I would give Taj Grill 4 1/2 if a could.... it's arguably the best Indian food in Buffalo. Every one in awhile the Naan takes a bit to come to the table, or one of the many buffet items isn't as good as previous visits, but in general it's awesome. My wife and I are both vegan and it is often hard in Buffalo to find restaurants that go above and beyond to cater to our diet choice. Taj Grill is the exception. They know which of their menu items are vegan, can often omit animal products to make them vegan, and bring us out vegan bread (roti w/o butter). Oftentimes, even though their buffet has at least two vegan main dishes, they will also make us a separate entree (a portion large enough that two people couldn't possibly finish it) to accommodate us because vegetarians and omnivores get many more options and they don't want us to feel left out. I've never really experienced customer service like this at any similar restaurant. It puts the other Indian restaurants in Buffalo to shame. After eating at the other Indian restaurants in the area over the years, we pretty much always go to Taj Grill. I haven't even mentioned the food yet, which is so amazingly good. Better than anything else in the area. The chana masala, baingan bhartha, tofu saag, vegetable curry and their potato/cauliflower dishes are all expertly spiced. If you're vegan, I could not recommend this place enough. Even if you're not, I'm sure their other dishes are just as delicious. read more

The butter chicken was suuupper sweet (would not recommend) but I like the carrot mishti a lot and the korma was good too. The rice however felt like it was left out too long and was hard.. still overall food was not bad, not my favorite though, unsure if I would go back. read more

I was in the mood for Indian food in a most desperate way. Based upon reviews here I choose to try Taj Grill and honestly was very disappointed. I ordered what should have been safely for my first time to this establishment (I am a longtime lover of Indian food) and stuck to veggie dishes. (My first tip off that I was in for a disappointment was the Beef dishes? this is not a Kerala restaurant). Net the food was so salty that I could not even eat it. While my server offered to have the kitchen remake my food, my appetite was gone. Others rave about the breads....not so much. Service was ok, but it was so cold in the restaurant I needed to wear my coat as did others. If you are willing to try Taj Grill you may have better luck, but for my money no second chance for me read more

Won't recommend this place for vegetarians. There are bunch of arrogant people here. We came here for buffet and we are strict vegetarians- in buffet, both veg and non-veg were mixed together- especially non-veg beef kept so close with veg that beef can easily fell into veg dish- we asked them if they can bring new plate or refill existing one as its mixed and we were told this is way it is and if I want to order I will have to order seperate even if we are paying for buffet- we were so disappointed by their arrogant attitude - won't ever come here and wouldn't recommend this place to all people who respect Vegetarians. read more

Decent enough lunch buffet with a few vegetarian options to keep those lacto-ovo folks happy. I tried their fried veggie pakora, papadum, fried lentil balls and sambar as a first course, and everything was tasty. They were offering chana batura, saag with corn, bharta paneer and a potato/green bean mixture as vegetable dishes on the day I visited. All were pretty good, though the spinach with corn had a weird taste that I found off putting. The chef likes mango powder, as more than one of the dishes had that characteristic sour flavor that amchur delivers. The chai tea is sweetened, which always bums me out, as I don't sweeten my tea, and I think people should be allowed to add their own amount of sugar. It was too sweet. They had a coconut mousse as a dessert offering, which was initially tasty but ultimately a little one note. I would probably return if I was in the area again, but won't feel compelled to seek this place out again as a special stop. I'm guessing there is better in Buffalo. read more
