Arriving on a Friday to meet for dinner, I was early and took my place in the barroom. There's also a front room and a back for dining. I never mind a wait on a busy night as long as the server checks in and keeps up on the drinks. We did wait about an hour which is a little much when your glass is empty. I'd give 5 stars but, we were left looking for either a drink or dinner. When we were served, everything was great. I had a standard fish fry, fries & slaw. The fish was delicious and the sides were good. The fish burrito was a nice alternative and the vegetarian in our group enjoyed the impossible burger. In the past, I've had the lamb melt and it's definitely worth mentioning. As it's located right across from the zoo, parking can be tricky but, it's worth the effort. read more

I've wanted to try this place for a while. On a Saturday afternoon my mom, soon to be mother in law and I met for lunch following my makeup trial. "Your neighborhood pub in Buffalo's historic Parkside community... where neighbors and visitors could get together". Yes, we were just two 'visitors'. The location is perfect being practically across the street from The Buffalo Zoo. It was an extremely hot day. After wandering around the animal prison under the tropical weather for almost two hours, it was time for some refreshments and a bite to eat. The place opens at four. We were the first customers not including a few people gathering around the bar. The booth we were seated in was small and crowded with unusual, old style fabric curtains and hard wooden seats. I wasn't a fan. The friendly server brought us perfectly cold water immediately. "It's always a happy hour here", she responded when I asked whether they had any sweet deals... duh! Right?! We ordered beers, French Onion soups, Mandarin Meadow salad and Eggplant Caprese from the appetizer menu. Surprisingly, we didn't have much time to enjoy our cold, delicious beer. Come on! It's a bar and they should have known better. I had just a few sips of my drink when the first course landed in front of us. If that wasn't enough, the rest of our ordered dishes were also brought to our table right after soups. It was an unprofessional and unthoughtful move. Anyway, the soup was very tasty. With lots of gooey cheese and flavorful broth it was my favorite dish. If only the croutons weren't completely soaked and mushed... The salad had a great combination of savory and sweet. I truly like the toasted sesame dressing which sealed everything nicely together. The only thing is, the lettuce should have more fresh crisp and crunch, and the bacon could be better quality. The eggplant dish was an unfair attempt. It was practically an unpleasant experience. Everything about it was wrong. The breading tasted like old oil, the eggplant was dark and hard. We even had problems cutting one piece in half. The mozzarella wasn't too fresh and the tomato didn't have any flavor. The chef also didn't give us much balsamic glaze, possibly knowing the whole thing is just a waste. (How dare you...:). After five o'clock, people started coming for the dinner rush. Although we were thinking of having one more round of beer to stretch our visit, the server never came back at the right time. Maybe I would go back some day if I'm in the area to meet a 'neighbor'. Very likely it would be just for a drink at the bar, more soup or something with cheese. I would skip 'healthy' choices. We arrived soon after 4 for a late lunch/early dinner. Other than a couple people at the bar, it was empty, but more people arrived as we were there. The interior is kind of old fashioned and eclectic with a large bar at the entrance and some booths and tables in an attached room. We ordered beers to start and then French onion soup. We also ordered the Mandarin Meadow salad and the Eggplant Caprese to share. Everything came out really quickly, almost all at once. It would have been nice to have a bit of time with the beer, and then the soup before the shared plates came out. Their French onion soup is delicious, even on a hot day after visiting the zoo! The broth was rich and salty; the onions seemed to be caramelized perfectly. The cheese on top was thick, but stayed nice and soft and stretchy. It was a super savory treat! The eggplant caprese was a disappointment, unfortunately. The proportion of breaded eggplant to tomato and mozzarella was way off. The breading was dense and greasy and tasted like dirty oil. The tomatoes were unripened and added no flavor. There was a balsamic drizzle and basil on top, but they couldn't be tasted. The Mandarin Meadow salad had delicious flavor and was refreshing. I only wish they'd use a crunchier green and better quality ingredients. The service was attentive and friendly. I've been obsessed with this place since their FB started before they opened. I'm ashamed to say it took so long for us to visit. I guess it just took us moving into the neighborhood. First of all, make a reservation. We got lucky coming over around 5:30 on a Friday to get a bar seat. But if you have to wait, it's worth it. I'll start by saying I'm now even more obsessed. The history and the detail. It's freaking amazing. I spent more time wandering around the bar than I did at my actual seat. The matchbooks alone will make any Buffalo historian rejoice. Yet still, they manage to have superb service and food. When we walked in without a reservation, the bartender (it's killing me I don't have her name) was working everything she could to make a table work before we took the bar seats. We so appreciated her and everything she did for us. Simple Buffalo style menu and I don't think you can do wrong with anything here. We've lived within walking distance of this restaurant for almost four years now and we finally had a chance to try it in February. When you walk in it genuinely feels like you're being taken through the history of the area and the building. Seeing all of the historic memorabilia brings a feeling of nostalgia and longing for the days before cell phones. The staff made us feel like we've been coming there for years and we were old friends. The food was delicious! We ordered the house made shrimp dumplings, golden pretzel rods with house made cheese sauce and onion rings. The shrimp dumpling were really tasty and the onions were super crispy, the boom boom sauce is the perfect dipping sauce for them. For our entrees I ordered the Rueben sandwich and my husband got the house burger. I was hesitant about ordering the Rueben, I've gone to many places and have been disappointed in what they call a Rueben. But this one was much much better than ones I've had on the past. My boys had come here before & loved the poutine, so they wanted to go back & have me try the place. It's small inside, but cozy, IMO. There's also a bar connected to the dining area. My boys each ordered Poutine, my son Jeremy got a Chicken Quesadilla as well & coffee. My son Matty got the "Len's Loaded Burger" and Cheese Fries, & I ordered the Spinach Garlic Bread & the Beef on Weck. My sandwich was good, but could've used a bit more beef, my salad had odd lettuce, it was kind of sharp on the edges & kept making me cough. But it was still yummy. I had some of my son's poutine which was very good , his cheese fries were good, but not enough cheese. My other son's Quesadilla was ok, but a bit dry. (Yes, I tried everything at the table but my son's HUMONGOUS 11oz Burger. Prices were quite high for some of the stuff. The check came to over $70.00, which for that, was a bit much. Chose this spot for my dad, his girlfriend and my aunt for a new place to try for dinner and I'm so glad I did. Didn't know about all the Buffalo nostalgia on the walls inside and this stuff is right up their alley. Menu has a good selection of choices all over the board at very fair prices. Everyone was very happy with their meals. Service was spot on , our server didn't even have to write our order down and it was all correct! My two appetizers (Eggplant Caprese Stack and Spinach cheese bread) were perfect portions that left me quite satisfied. I live fairly close to the zoo, and I frequently drive past Parkside Meadow on my way home, so naturally I've been curious about this nearby restaurant. I finally stopped in on a whim on a Saturday afternoon. My husband and I sat at the bar and after looking over the menu, there wasn't anything that really screamed "try me," so we ended up just getting two apps and a beer each. They have a decent selection of draft and bottled beer and a nice wine list. We ordered the stuffed hot peppers and the pretzel bites. The pretzels would have been perfect, but they placed them on top of field mix, so they ended up getting soggy, which was disappointing. The cheese sauce that came with the pretzels was pretty good though. It was nice and thick dipping sauce - so they get an A for consistency for sure. The peppers on the other hand were also not so great. They were supposed to be stuffed with Italian sausage and cheese, but it really just tasted like bread crumbs and cheese with not much flavor, so that was also a let down. What I liked most about Parkside Meadow was our bartender, Lindsay, who was just super nice and welcoming. I also enjoyed the music; it was very relaxing and just made the overall experience calming and sort of like a home feel. read more

The moment you walk in here your stepping into a bit of History, back in the 1950's this was once a Candy & Cigar store turned into a Bar & Restaurant. Throughout the 70's & 80's it was a Rowdy Hangout that many of the neighbors in the Parkside Area considered to be a Public Nuisance. It closed in 1991, since then it just housed a number of Failed Restaurants, until in 2012 Parksiders - Nancy Abramo & Len Mattie bought the place and rebuilt it from the ground up. They filled it up with countless artifacts celebrating Buffalo's people, architecture, food & events from the late 1800's to the beginning of the 1950's. I walked over here one day for Lunch after signing up for some Private Cooking Classes I walked in and it was hardly busy and the owner (Nancy) sat me in a booth in the main Dining Room. As I walked through and looked around I was taken aback by all the Artifacts looming around the Room, even with one whiff I could even Smell the History. The waitstaff is some of the friendliest and the kindest that I've ever encountered. I started off my Lunch with a Drink, some Steelhead Stout (similar to Guinness in both taste and Appearance). The Menu consists of some of the most Simplest, Old School Dishes ranging from Stuffed Hot Peppers, Poutine, Rueben, Beef on Weck, Tuna Melt, Fried Bologna and 5 different preparations of Haddock. The one thing that caught my eye that I was ever so curious was their Shaved Lamb Melt. They told me it was one of their most unique and one of the King items, something you don't see a lot nowadays. It was Shaved Lamb on Sourdough with Havarti Cheese and a Spearmint & Garlic Aioli. The Meat was broiled to Medium-Well even though it was thinly sliced it was still Tender (not tough or Chewy), the Cheese had a buttery flavor to it and the Aioli had a Rich flavor and Minty aroma to it (Mint goes great with Lamb) with a generous amount of Fries on the Side. To finish off my Lunch before I left I finished it off with a Dessert Wine, a Robust Red Wine that had accents of Dark Chocolate on the End. Old School can sometimes show up New School, I enjoyed my 1st Visit and about a week and a half later I came back again for Lunch and I once again ordered the Sandwich again (tastes even better a 2nd Time) minus the Alcoholic Accompaniments. If you ever drive down Parkside, whether its to visit the Buffalo Zoo or just taking a Walk, come here for a Meal as Parkside is on your Side. !!! read more

From the exterior look and neighborhood location to the nostalgic cozy old feel inside I loved everything about the ambience here. The staff were also very friendly. The restaurant is split up into 2 sections - a seating area, and a bar area - both of which looked cozy places to catch up with friends or enjoy a snack or drink. Such a corner gem! We were sightseeing in Buffalo, and had to eat quickly. I scanned Yelp, yelled, Turn here, and we found this darling cafe, originally a cigar and candy store. We told the waitress we were in a hurry, so she gave us a few minutes to scan the menu and we ordered. The cafe had tables and booths. The walk-in feeling was like being in Grandma's house, having antiques and historical old photos of Buffalo, and Buffalo store signs on the walls. The store front had a large bar, and dining is in the other room. Both areas have windows. The menu had Buffalo's unique Beef on Weck. This was a delicious sandwich of thinly sliced roast beef on a kummelweck roll which is topped with kosher salt and caraway seeds. We chose salad over crispy fries. All was very good and filling. Our friends had a very good hamburger, and GF fish tacos--unbreaded fish on two corn tortillas with coleslaw. That was very good. I could be a regular here. I definitely recommend the cafe, located across from the zoo and two walkable blocks from the Martin house. On-street parking. I don't think it's handicapped accessible. read more

We came here after a busy day at the Buffalo Zoo. My girlfriend and I were hungry and spotted a diner/bar close by. Walking into the restaurant it was a blast of the past. It had a lot of old pictures and paraphernalia. There was a restaurant on one side and a bar on the other. We were not super hungry, so we decided to split the Beef on Weck Sandwich and side Caesar Salad. I ordered a Genesee Larger (beer) to wash down the sandwich. The food took a little time to come. Our server was apologetic about it wait, it did take time for just one entree to come out considering the restaurant wasn't overly busy. When the food arrived, the entree was huge! My girlfriend ended up just eating side salad it was that big! My Beef on Weck was delicious the beef was medium rare which was a first from the few sandwiches of this type that I've had. It was tasty but the meat could be a little more tender to be perfect. This is a really neat spot. It's like a hole in the wall that you unknowingly pass all the time. The decor is really cool all Buffalo themed vintage stuff and it was an old diner cozy feel to it. The food is pretty standard buffalo pub fair. We weren't planning on getting wings but they smelled so good we couldn't resist. They were very big but still crunchy on the outside and the sauce was perfect. Spicy without being sloppy. My favorite. The food was also really good. Wednesday nights are half off of chicken wings! We got an order of medium and their bourbon wings. They came out crispy. Parkside Meadow is a quaint little bar in North Buffalo that goes heavy on nostalgia. My wife and I came in this afternoon around 2 for lunch after a trip to the zoo and found the place about half full. We were seated immediately and had some time to browse the menu. The waitresses were friendly and attentive. I ended up going with an order of 10 wings (hot) to split as an appetizer and a regular burger. The wings came out first, they were piping hot, extra crispy, and bone dry. So dry that I don't think I even used my napkin after I was done. The wings themselves were well enough cooked but their hot sauce was comparable to a milder medium, and again they were just bone dry. The wings were not good, but I guess they worked in a pinch. The burger came out just as we finished the wings and it was pretty huge. In truth it was a bit overcooked for how I ordered it and it could have used something more like pickles or a sauce to bring it to life. It sounds like I'm complaining but the burger wasn't bad, plus the fries were great. All and all it was an OK visit. I'd probably go back again. read more

Parkside Meadow is such a great addition to Buffalo! The food is good and the restaurant's decorations are some of the coolest I've ever seen! All Buffalonians with city pride and history enthusiasts should add Parkside Meadow to their Buffalo Bucket List! The owner of the restaurant is a collector of Buffalo memorabilia. He has the whole restaurant covered with items from his impressive collection. It was so amazing to look around and learn about Buffalo in the 1800's and early 1900s! I could have spent hours looking around. Even the tables are decorated with antique advertisements, photographs and receipts. It was such a nice reminder of Buffalo's history. The menu is great- full of casual options (salads, great selection of appetizers, sandwiches, fish fry, pasta) - nothing fancy, just delicious comfort food! My table tried the Poutine, Shrimp Pot Stickers and the Shrimp Bow Tie Mac n Cheese. The Poutine was very good- the ratio of cheese to gravy was perfect and the french fries were homemade! The shrimp pot stickers were just okay, I probably would order something else next time. The Shrimp Mac n Cheese entree was excellent- so cheesy! I also loved the panko breadcrumbs layered on top of the dish. I would absolutely order it again! The bar was separate from the dining room. I looked around at the artifacts displayed beautifully in the bar. It would be an awesome place to go for a few drinks with friends! They have a nice beer list of local brews and original cocktails! This place has some very sweet memories for me, as I KNOW many people have the same nostalgic thoughts. I am an OLD guy now, a senior citizen, but when I was 18 I used to come to this place when it was the Park Meadow Bar. In fact, my parents used to frequent it after they were married and lived nearby in their first apartment which was within walking distance of it - and that was 1954. LOTS of history in this lovely building. I stopped in last summer with my brother during a trip back home and it was nice - but we didn't plan on eating anything and just wanted a couple of beers to start out the evening. We only had a couple of quick beers at the bar and, oh, how the bar scene has changed. Gone are the days when you could stop in and have a few domestic or Canadian drafts; it seems that everything is a craft beer that is three times the price wherever we went, but I'm NOT knocking it; just saying things are evolving away from the "old days". I guess the bar industry really is changing as even after we left we had a hard time finding another place where we could just get a Molson or Labatt Blue on draft - everything was a craft beer or something more expensive, unless of course, we went to one of the old time, long established neighborhood places, and that's okay. I have heard the food is very good here, but as I mentioned, we just had a couple of beers and headed out. The place has a wonderful feel to it and I love, and have always LOVED, the Parkside neighborhood. I recommend it for sure. read more

Parkside Meadow might be a neighborhood gem and a place where everyone knows your name, but for me, it was the setting for a bit of a lackluster dining experience. To preface, the service was good. Our waitress was attentive and nice. I also enjoyed the ambiance of the place -- the history Parkside Meadow once being the location of a candy and cigar space, and the many trinkets on display for all to see. ... But the food I had wasn't anything I couldn't have made at home that definitely made me question why I paid for it in the first place. As an appetizer, I opted for the golden pretzel rods with homemade cheese sauce. The doughy pretzels reminded me of the jumbo ones you can purchase from the frozen section in the store and dip your heart out. They weren't bad at all. The homemade cheese sauce, however, wasn't my cup of gooey goodness. It looked thick and creamy but lacked that je ne sais quoi to make it memorable. The avocado ranch salad I got also lacked that je ne sais quoi. It was one of the most straightforward salads that didn't have an element that made it unique from salads I've crafted a home ... thus making me question why I spent $12.95 on it. (Sorry, *$16.95 as I paid an additional $4 for chicken.) At least the avocado was fresh. This place might be a good spot to drink a pint before heading to Delaware Park or the zoo. But the food I ate -- and how it was prepared -- was nothing that would make me go back as it's likely cheaper for me to make everything in the comfort of my own home and get the same, if not better, flavor. read more

Cannoli crepes. Need I say more? This restaurant is located right across the street from the zoo and is a great place for brunch. We didn't have reservations so we went right when it opened at 11am. I'm glad we did because it quickly began to fill up after we got there. Everything on the menu is pretty much under $11 which is awesome. They also have a special 3 for $10 mimosas! I ordered that to start. Since it was fall when I went they had special apple cider mimosas so I ordered two of those and one of the regulars with oj. I then ordered the cannoli crepes. It is made with their homemade cannoli filling and came with a dollop of whipped cream. They were great! My mom got the french toast with fruit and mascarpone in them and those were delicious as well. My dad went for more traditional with a south western omelette. I really liked it because it was packed with cheese. There really isn't a bad thing you can order. The service was good. it was our waitresses second day and I could tell she was a little overwhelmed but she was very nice and friendly. The food was 10/10. My girl friend got the meatloaf, son (4) got the chicken sandwich, and I got the Cesar salad. Portions were large, and reasonably priced. Kids menu was $10, and a sandwich was $13 so my son just got an adult sandwich. They have gluten free buns for $2. My chicken on the Caesar salad was crusted with flour, when I made the waitress aware she was very apologetic and fixed everything. They do have a beyond burger and salads for non meat eaters. There is outdoor seating, kind of small seating inside, and a bar on the other side of the wall. Would come again and definitely recommend to friends and family. read more

I visited Parkside Meadow with a group of friends recently. The service was fine, the food not so much. I had Beef on Weck. It came with au jus and horseradish and either home made chips or fries. I went for the chips. They were nice and crispy, not overly salted fortunately. The beef on weck was okay. The kimmelweck roll was nicely toasted, the beef was just fine, but nothing close to Schwabl's or even Anderson's. This was our second visit to Parkside Meadow. We were not impressed the first time and gave them a second chance. The food was just okay but I don't think we will be back there. The place is full of Buffalo memorabilia, very nice, but not good enough to compensate for the mediocre food. read more

Went after the zoo with my husband and teenage kids. My husband loved the Buffalo memorabilia. My husband loved his burger. My vegetarian daughter did not enjoy her hummus wrap. I ordered fried bologna and I give it a 2/10. No cheese, only two thin slices of bologna and a few grilled onions. Very cold in the restaurant but they turned the blower down. read more

I apparently might be on a personal mission of trying every reuben sandwich at every restaurant in buffalo. I opted for the reuben here and it exceeded my expectations. The entire sandwich was warm and delicious, the sauerkraut tasted like it was braised for days, and the meat was tender as could be. A+ quality, this was a reuben I will be coming back for soon. Overall, you won't be disappointed in a visit to this great local restaurant in parkside. read more
