So... For a few years my wife and I would frequent, "Bambay Palace" in Turkey Creek. Then one day as we were going to order delivery, we realized it had changed name and management. To be honest, I kinda lost interest. I'm a creature of habit, and when I noticed our "go to" Indian food restaurant had changed name and management, I lost interest. Then last night, I again looked for a local Indian food restaurant that delivered because I LOVE INDIAN FOOD!! Sadly, my wife not so much. But that's another story lol.. So I got on my Yelp app and up pops Taj Indian Bistro. I checked the menu, had my wife have a look, and she found a dish that she thought she might like. And for whatever reason, DoorDash delivery was offering free delivery, so I thought "what the heck" I'll give them a shot. I have to say, I was skeptical about a few things on their menu. Do they serve dishes with rice? Or do I have to add it to the order? Are the portions small? None of those questions were answered in the delivery menu. But I gave all of the above a shot. Then: THE FOOD WE ORDERED WAS EXCELLENT! Of course rice was included. The Onion bhaji was amazing and almost too big of an order for one person! The Garlic Naan bread was perfect, and our main course dishes were TOP NOTCH (my wife didn't care for hers, typical.) After her mentioning that "It's Ok..) I tried it and it WAS ALSO DELICIOUS !! If I had anything negative to add, it was DoorDash. I personally HATE delivery services. They're all a major ripoff. But Taj is my new favorite Indian restaurant. We'll dine in next time. read more

Not to be mistaken for the actual Taj Mahal, Taj Indian Bistro is right in Turkey Creek. I love curry and was looking forward to trying this place. I loved the flavors! The korma was creamy with a great amount of spice and a bit of nuttiness. Great rounded tomato flavor in the masala. I was literally licking the bowl. I also loved the warm garlic naan bread (extra charge), which was perfect to sop up every drop. The issue I had was that there were very few pieces of chicken and no vegetables, so basically $18 for basmati rice, sauce, and a few pieces of protein is a tough sell. 1. The service staff is very willing to accommodate you. 2. I ordered the Palak/Paneer (spinach dish with chunks of cheese) and we got garlic naan and butter naan and everything was exceptional. 3. While everyone is different regarding the amount of heat in their food, I ordered a three out of five and the spice level was perfect. I feel I could go to a four without much trouble but I would see how some people would think it would be too hot. I don't think I would enjoy a five level. 4. This place has been one of my favorites for years and continues to impress. The struggle for me is understanding what to order so I generally stick with the same thing. read more

Easy to place order by phone. Have ordered before when in town for business. Usually really good. This time the Tikka Masala was just okay - didn't seem to have as good of a flavor as I remember. And the garlic naan was not cooked all the way. It tasted doughy. Picture doesn't show it too well, but it wasn't cooked in the middle of the naan. read more

The food was so great. It was pretty cold the night we came in. Like, uncomfortably cold in the dining room. We enjoyed everything. The garlic Naan was some of the best I've ever had. "Medium spicy" for my dish was perfect. We lucked out I guess. I imagine this place, in this location, isn't going to be a casual to walk-in and be served immediately like we were. Food is absolutely amazing! Mango curry is my favorite. The changed the mango lassi recently which I feel was for the better. I will say though that they changed the chili gobi that I'm use to and the flavor that I literally crave. It's the sauce. No where near as good which is devastating to me. Indian food is a tricky dilemma when trying to figure out where to eat. Most of the time when I venture into an Indian restaurant I end up with a. meal that is way too spicy. After reading rave reviews from this restaurant, my wife and I decided to give it a try. We went a couple hours after lunch so that we could relax without a crowd. Our server was extremely friendly and gave us recommendations on food and drink. I told him about my experiences with food that was too spicy. He laughed and said, "we're from Northern India where the food is perfect." Upon our server's recommendation, I ordered the Bhuna Lamb with a 2.5 spice level. I was not disappointed. The Lamb morsels were succulent, and the curry was some of the most delicious I ever tasted. It was so good in fact that I could've actually eaten the curry by itself and been very satisfied. My wife ordered the Chicken Biryani which she said was equally delicious. I also had a mango yogurt drink which paired perfectly with the spice in the curry. Garlic naan and bean chips with a sauce were also served. The amount of food was so generous that I had enough takeout for dinner that evening. We'll most definitely return. read more

This new Indian restaurant in Turkey Creek has excellent service and delicious food - some of the best Indian cuisine in Knoxville. While we waited for our entrees, the gracious server (originally from Northern India) surprised us with Papadum (cracker-ish bread made from lentils) and 2 dipping sauces: one of sweet mint and another with mango and onions, similar to chutney. Both tasted delicious. The chicken in my biryani was moist and tender, and the lamb in my spouse's bhuna was succulent and flavorful. The basmati rice -- cooked just right. Garlic naan accompanied our lunches. Although the restaurant is relatively small inside, it seats probably 100 diners at various-sized tables with chairs or in booths that line the walls. The dinner menu has a much more extensive menu, so we will return to try other options. read more

The Bollywood videos in the background tops it off to let you know this is an Indian spot. Indian food actually made by Indians Waiter was very attentive and other employees assisted as needed. Wife and Grand Daughter wanted to treat me today to my favorite food, and ever since the Original Bombay Palace was sold, I had not had any really good Indian food. So today they stopped by to try Tal, we have not had any food from their yet and she was excited to treat me. Being in a wheelchair I don't go out as much as I use to myself. Well pulled up and got ready to go in, along with another couple that just got there, only to find the doors locked. Upon trying then to order online to see if something odd was up, they simply got a Taj is not taking online orders at this time. Even a knock on the door had no result. So Can I rate it a 1, yes for actually following their own guide of when they are open for business, Can I rate it a 5, How could I never got anything to eat.
