Best Indian food in Maryville! Everything customer prepared when you order. You can call ahead to place a takeout order.

Stumbled onto this restaurant last week - it's a little tucked away - but what a find. Operated by a very friendly owner/chef/server/busser. Extremely friendly clientele as well, all ready and willing to make menu recommendations. Though a tad understated, the restaurant has a friendly atmosphere and fabulous food. I had the Chicken Marsala which was nicely spiced and very tender. The naan was freshly made to order and incredibly flavorful. We'll be back again. Next time I'm going for the Mutton Marsala and fluffy rice.

The Masala Indo-Pak Grill after three years is still a one-man outfit. Abbás Ali Sheikh learned to cook from his mother in Lahore, Pakistan. He offers chicken, beef, and goat meats, in addition to a variety of vegetarian dishes. The meat is halal, and he prepares it in the traditional fashion, breaking the bones. My wife and I, both in our early 80s, arrived late on a Thursday afternoon, and were the only customers there. We had the chicken biryani and the saag paneer, with naan. The biryani was wonderfully spiced with red pepper, black pepper, and a variety of Indian spices we couldn't identify - we found the amount of chili heat was just right, though we're used to a fair amount of that stuff. Servings were big enough that we brought enough home for lunch the next day. No beer or wine license, but you may bring your own. To get there, drive out West Broadway past the Horn of Plenty Market, and turn right at the traffic light at Sandy Springs Road into a small shopping center. We'll be back soon! (No, we passed up the Rocky Top Rage Room.)

Such a cute little place. The food was so good! The service was fast and the staff (the owner I'm assuming) was very nice.

Samosa Chat!! Help me Jesus this is so good.

WOW!! I didn't even make it out the parking lot before I inhaled my entire plate! So much flavor, such good prices, all homemade!! Let's make this hole-in-the-wall a Maryville staple! Great vegetarian options!

So... For a few years my wife and I would frequent, "Bambay Palace" in Turkey Creek. Then one day…read moreas we were going to order delivery, we realized it had changed name and management. To be honest, I kinda lost interest. I'm a creature of habit, and when I noticed our "go to" Indian food restaurant had changed name and management, I lost interest. Then last night, I again looked for a local Indian food restaurant that delivered because I LOVE INDIAN FOOD!! Sadly, my wife not so much. But that's another story lol.. So I got on my Yelp app and up pops Taj Indian Bistro. I checked the menu, had my wife have a look, and she found a dish that she thought she might like. And for whatever reason, DoorDash delivery was offering free delivery, so I thought "what the heck" I'll give them a shot. I have to say, I was skeptical about a few things on their menu. Do they serve dishes with rice? Or do I have to add it to the order? Are the portions small? None of those questions were answered in the delivery menu. But I gave all of the above a shot. Then: THE FOOD WE ORDERED WAS EXCELLENT! Of course rice was included. The Onion bhaji was amazing and almost too big of an order for one person! The Garlic Naan bread was perfect, and our main course dishes were TOP NOTCH (my wife didn't care for hers, typical.) After her mentioning that "It's Ok..) I tried it and it WAS ALSO DELICIOUS !! If I had anything negative to add, it was DoorDash. I personally HATE delivery services. They're all a major ripoff. But Taj is my new favorite Indian restaurant. We'll dine in next time.

Not to be mistaken for the actual Taj Mahal, Taj Indian Bistro is right in Turkey Creek. I love…read morecurry and was looking forward to trying this place. I loved the flavors! The korma was creamy with a great amount of spice and a bit of nuttiness. Great rounded tomato flavor in the masala. I was literally licking the bowl. I also loved the warm garlic naan bread (extra charge), which was perfect to sop up every drop. The issue I had was that there were very few pieces of chicken and no vegetables, so basically $18 for basmati rice, sauce, and a few pieces of protein is a tough sell. These folks know how to cook Indian flavors though!

The selection offers a nice mix of classic Indian dishes, from rich curries and tender chicken options to vegetarian choices, rice, naan, and sauces that let you customize each plate. Everything I tried was fresh and well-seasoned, with good flavor rather than overwhelming heat. The buffet makes it easy to sample a little of everything, go back for favorites, and find something for different spice preferences. The naan was a standout alongside the curries, and the overall value is hard to beat for lunch. The restaurant was clean, the food was kept stocked, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Whether you already enjoy Indian food or are trying it for the first time, Spice Hut's lunch buffet is an easy recommendation for a filling, tasty, and reasonably priced meal.

The Great Indian Food Letdown…read more Listen -- I'm fully on board with a hole-in-the-wall serving up incredible food. That's my favorite kind of find. And maybe we caught this place on an off day, but for me, this was just... okay. And I genuinely do not understand what the rave reviews are talking about. Coming from Houston, a city with roughly a thousand Indian restaurants where almost every single one delivers, this felt like a real step down. Yes, it's attached to a gas station -- fine, no judgment there. They clearly put effort into making the inside feel a little charming. But our table was sticky and gross, and the bathroom matched. Not exactly the first impression you want. And it left me wondering: if the front of house can't notice -- or doesn't care -- that things are dirty, what on earth is happening back in the kitchen? As for the food, we ordered my personal benchmark trio for judging any Indian restaurant: Samosa Chaat, Palak Paneer, and Dosa (when available). They had all three, so I walked in optimistic -- maybe this sticky-table situation was about to redeem itself. Spoiler: it did not. The Samosa Chaat was fine, no real complaints there. But then my Palak Paneer arrived, and I genuinely did not recognize it. It was a strange brownish color -- think baby poop -- and the flavor bore zero resemblance to any Palak Paneer I've had in my life. I didn't finish it, and if you know me with Indian food, that tells you everything you need to know. My husband's dosa fared a little better, but the chutney tasted off, and there was only one variety with no clear indication of what was even in it -- whatever it was, it wasn't good. Traditionally, we're used to getting both coconut and mint chutney on the side, so this felt noticeably incomplete. Honestly, it was such a letdown that I'm not sure I have it in me to give this place a second shot. I'm just sitting here mourning the fear that I may never find great Indian food again after moving here.

An absolute peach of a restaurant and probably the best Indian restaurant in this entire region,…read morenow that several others have shut down completely and started getting bad ratings. The dishes are extremely super expensive for the quantity although everything tastes great and perfect. THE FOOD: We went in for lunch on consecutive days and tried out different items. We had Naan, Roti, Paneer Butter Masala, Veg Starters platter, Methi Mutter Paneer. Everything tasted so good. Everything costs ~ $20 as well and the breads were at $~$6 each. All of them tasted good and no issues. The starter platter was the pick although the quantity was very less for that price point again. Next day we tried Idly, Paneer Biryani and guess what the Paneer Biryani was so delicious and with mild spice it was perfect. It was well cooked and not much of random masala that will make the rest of your day bad. It came with a thick raitha which was decent in quantity. The Idly were a quick filler and Sambar was decent again. The price is the biggest concern here. I just hope they address it. SERVICE & AMBIENCE: The restaurant was not so crowded by the time we went and staffs were courteous. Although not sure how they jumped into conclusion that every Indian who visits them speaks Hindi, and they start to converse without even asking if we understand. That behavior was kinda off. But the service was quick. We didn't wait much. The ambience was good as well. Clean toilets. BOTTOMLINE: A great restaurant if you are visiting Gatlinburg, Smoky mountains and the surroundings and craving for warm and appetizing Indian food. Very pricey for the quantity so plan your meal accordingly. Great service and setting. Would visit again! MY PICKS FOR YOU: Paneer Biryani, Veg Starter Platter

After I started digging more into the meat ones, I realized how impressive it is for their chicken (Doro Tibs). I haven't had such great chicken for too long. The lamb and beef are also cooked to perfection with perfectly balanced taste and tenderness. The Ethiopian bread (injera) that comes with or under the entree was so special. I initially took some time to adjust to the taste but towards the end I got obsessed with it and couldn't stop eating. After we saw the date cake on their menu, we decided it's a must-order.
