Delicious food! It is exactly like going to Chipotle but with an Indian cuisine experience infused within the options! Very clean restaurant and excellent service! Love the burritos, bowls, quesadillas and nachos! The toasted burritos and quesadillas were perfectly executed, we enjoyed it so much that we want to get the same press machine to use in the kitchen at home! The mango lassi is a must try drink option! Loved the burrito I built with basmati rice, pinto beans, chicken, extra butter masala, cilantro lime crema, cilantro, mango salsa, corn salsa, purple cabbage, lettuce, kachumber, cheese and mint chili sauce!

First, love the name - it tells you right away that their food is a marriage of Indian + Mexican. However if you read the menu items, like Justin H says, it's more heavy on the Indian side. You can either make your own, or order from the menu. We took advantage of their grand opening special - $6.99 for their signature bowls (reg. $11.98) and quesadillas (reg. $9.98). The owners are Indian and they are super nice and welcoming. BOMBAY BUTTER - $11.98 Bowl incl. basmati rice, pinto beans, protein (we did chicken), butter masala curry, kachumber, jalapeno corn salsa, cilantro lime crema, shredded cheese, and cilantro. Delicious flavors - I loved everything! SMOKY TIKKA - $11.98 Bowl incl. basmati rice, pinto beans, protein (we did chicken), tikka masala curry, fajita veggies, jalapeno corn salsa, smoky chipotle, and cilantro. This was very good too - and quite spicy so be ready! Other protein options are carnitas (pork), carne asada, paneer. Definitely coming back - I'd like to try their Masala Fries and one of their signature quesadillas next time! Maybe even their Verde Roots bowl - which they said is catered to people who might not like curry. FYI they're located in the same shopping center as First Watch, next to Costco.

I saw that the recently opened in the plaza right next to the Costco and wanted to come in and see what it was all about. Did not disappoint! Great flavorful food for about as much as a comparable Chipotle bowl but with a lot more spices. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients. For my first time here, I decided to order from the preset signature menu since I figured they would know what would best go together - but if you wanted you can build your own Indian/Mex fusion inspired bowl, Burrito, Fries, or Nachos. Will definitely add this fast casual restaurant to my foodie playlist.

It was good, good concept. Mexican and Indian food mixed. We got the bowls, not the best I've ever had but I'd come back and try the burrito

    Butter Chicken Quesadilla (Online/Delivery)

This place absolutely rips! Mexican and Indian flavors play so well together. We had the Butter Chicken Quesadilla, the Masala Paneer Quesadilla, and the Curry Meets Queso Fries. They were all 3 delicious. Those were there pre-determined menu items. But you can also go through the line and just pick a bowl, burrito, quesadilla, fries or chips as your base and then add whatever protein and toppings you want, like a chipotle.

Lived in this area all my life. This is one of the best places here. Possibly the best for the price. It's a wonder nobody thought to combine Indian and Mexican food before.

To be honest, I kinda lost interest. I'm a creature of habit, and when I noticed our "go to" Indian food restaurant had changed name and management, I lost interest. Then last night, I again looked for a local Indian food restaurant that delivered because I LOVE INDIAN FOOD!! Sadly, my wife not so much. But that's another story lol.. So I got on my Yelp app and up pops Taj Indian Bistro. I checked the menu, had my wife have a look, and she found a dish that she thought she might like. And for whatever reason, DoorDash delivery was offering free delivery, so I thought "what the heck" I'll give them a shot. I have to say, I was skeptical about a few things on their menu. Do they serve dishes with rice? Or do I have to add it to the order? Are the portions small? None of those questions were answered in the delivery menu. But I gave all of the above a shot. Then: THE FOOD WE ORDERED WAS EXCELLENT! Of course rice was included. The Onion bhaji was amazing and almost too big of an order for one person! The Garlic Naan bread was perfect, and our main course dishes were TOP NOTCH (my wife didn't care for hers, typical.) After her mentioning that "It's Ok..) I tried it and it WAS ALSO DELICIOUS !! If I had anything negative to add, it was DoorDash. I personally HATE delivery services. They're all a major ripoff. But Taj is my new favorite Indian restaurant. We'll dine in next time.

The korma was creamy with a great amount of spice and a bit of nuttiness. Great rounded tomato flavor in the masala. I was literally licking the bowl. I also loved the warm garlic naan bread (extra charge), which was perfect to sop up every drop. The issue I had was that there were very few pieces of chicken and no vegetables, so basically $18 for basmati rice, sauce, and a few pieces of protein is a tough sell. These folks know how to cook Indian flavors though!

Hands down the best Indian food I've had in the Knox County surrounding area. 1 dish is enough to feed 2-3 people - and I wanted to try multiple dishes, so I definitely had to ask for takeout containers and even then I had lunch and dinner for the next couple days covered! I went during dinner hours, but they do offer a buffet everyday from 11am to 3pm - which I will try next time to try more flavors at an even more affordable cost. Food did not come out extremely fast - so a good sign that it is freshly made to order and not just reheated frozen sauces with protein thrown in. The kababs came out sizzling and biryani came out steaming! The lamb was not gamey at all. The hospitality was quick and pleasant also!

Every dish was rich, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Indian food can be hit or miss sometimes, but this place? Oh, it's a solid HIT. The atmosphere is spotless and inviting (which matters more than people admit), and the staff? Top tier. Super kind, attentive without hovering, and quick to bring anything we needed before we even had to ask. Honestly, this is the kind of place that ruins other Indian spots for you--in the best way. Safe to say, I'll absolutely be back... probably sooner than I should be.

My…read morehusband and I shared the Rom's Fast Fix-A-Quick Delicious Small Bite with marinated beef, and it was fantastic. The beef was juicy and tender, practically melting in your mouth with every bite. The seasoning was spot on--flavorful without overpowering the natural richness of the meat. It paired perfectly with the rice, which was light and fluffy, creating a great balance of textures and flavors. The only thing that could have elevated the dish even more would be a little extra sauce to mix into the rice. That would have brought the whole dish together, but even without it, the flavor was still on point. Overall, it's a great spot for a delicious HALAL option, and I'll definitely be back to try more next time we drive through Knoxville. Food- 5/5 Service- 5/5 Ambiance- 5/5

There was only one guy working at the stall when we ordered our food so it understandably took a little longer to get our food but it was totally worth it. We ordered Rom's Bowl - which is chicken, beef, and veggies over rice. Then the bread is baked over the bowl essentially creating an edible lid. It was served with a side salad with a lovely salad dressing. I think it had sumac in it but don't quote me on that!Although this was my first time eating Afghan food, the food felt familiar to me. The rice dish was similar to biryani (but not spicy) and the bread was a cross between a pita and naan. I can't wait to go back!

I've been disappointed by every single popular recommendation. I can get much better pancakes, steaks, biscuits, ice cream, donuts, and pork in Chicago. This place was a much welcomed change from the usual tourist long line, overhyped fare. The flavors were incredible. The chicken was tender. The lentils were delicious. The cilantro jasmine rice was a bit dryer than I like my rice to be and needed the sauce to work, but I was cutting back on my carb intake, so I didn't finish the huge portion of rice they gave me. Oh and the food comes a bit spicy. Maybe that's way locals aren't patronizing this place, but if you can tolerate the spice, this place is must try!
