The Mediterranean diet is probably the best diet in the world. I did my postdoctoral research at the Food Composition Lab at the USDA in Beltsville, MD, so I had to read a lot about diet. I also spent over a year in Israel, the best diet I've ever been on. EXCELLENT food. THIS is the place my wife and I like to eat at when we go to the West Town Mall. Their hummus is the best we've ever tasted. I highly recommend this place, especially over the burger and fries menus of so many other places. Rice, not fries. Lamb for me, not burgers. How could anyone give this place more than one or two stars? Are the five star ratings legit (perhaps the restaurant actually submitted 5 star ratings for their self). It was Simply horrible in every possible way. Here is a list of the many bad things which I experienced here... (1) the food did not taste good. (2) the meat was old and very tough. (3) very small tiny helping. (4) the bread was stale. (5) they got the order very wrong. (6) the price was much on the high side. (7) no lid to put on the drink cup. (8) each person acted as if they could not understand what was said to them. They were the only eatery in the food court that did not have any people waiting in line to eat there. The chicken there that was in there was gross cheap dark meat and maybe even gizzards(had a strange taste) and maybe a quarter of a cup of it. Mostly just onions and 2 pieces of cucumber and a slice of tomato. Even tho I thought what a great price 5.99 or something close to that.. I was hoping this would be great. It wasn't. The food isn't bad, just not great and in some aspects not good but passing grade. We tried almost the whole menu. The gyro meat is very thinly sliced and in the case of the platter was chopped up. Maybe they are doing it for cost? Idk. In Illinois places with gyro meat was carved in strips and thick like how thick bacon is usually cut. Yassin falafel place near towne and country and the Panera bread..does a much better job. The chicken wings aren't seasoned, they have a batter on them and come with the dip as the flavor. Unlike most places that season the wings with the flavor option and are usually not battered. The chicken tenders are gummy in the batter. It's bland mostly. Has salty flavor that's it. Not crispy crunch like most tenders should be. I got a cheese and steak sandwich. It was done with a pita but wasn't with cheese at all. Just thin beef slices and pieces not long carves. The kofta platter is good, but I have nothing to compare it to. Chicken Greek salad was lacking imo. Not much lettuce and way too much jalepenos. The fries are steak style or similar..not really seasoned, but added some salt and used ketchup. I like the soft potato inside it has. Shawarma beef tasted good, but very little meat was used. Again it has to be a cost issue, otherwise I have no idea why they do it this way. Won't try them again, no value imo. P.s. we had it delivered. But nothing was soggy so i think the results would be similar in person. Again, tastes are fine for the most part. If you are walking past King Gyros, you may find the owner/staff trying to get your attention if you aren't already heading their way. They may even offer you some free samples to taste. Do yourself a favor - take them up on it! The food will speak for itself, and you'll be happy you did. The flavor is deep and wonderful on everything we tried (beef/lamb, tzatziki, hummus, rice, and fries). The fries had a nice tang to them - kind of lemony. And ask about the fried pita bread - VERY special. Everyone is very friendly, and the owner is very charming. You can tell he takes pride/has confidence in his food. And why wouldn't he when it tastes this good? Our thanks to them for grabbing our attention. We will be back. And we're coming for your shwarmas next! read more
