Small portions and expensive for what they serve. $53.00 for 1 order of small, sad looking chicken wings, 1 order of chicken fingers, 1 order Mongolian beef and 1 small bowl of white rice. Mongolian beef greasy, swimming in brown sauce and onions- no scallions which is a main component of the dish. To take home left overs, they hand you styrofoam containers for you to package yourself, no bag to place the container(s) in. Now your greasy main dish will leak all over your clothing and car. Wow, what a great dinner. Spoke to the owner before hand about my previous visit and make a few minor adjustments about sauce amounts. What a hit!! My family's late xmas party was so good 10/10. This is a hard review to write because I've met one of the owners and I know she has a lot invested and is trying hard to make this restaurant a success. Unfortunately while the food can be very good (hot and sour soup, dumplings, egg rolls, moo shi, kung pao chicken, ... ) there is an absence of good management practices that makes this restaurant very hit or miss. We've visited this location six or seven times because it's local and we had such a good time during our first visit. But with every successive visit we've encountered some type of problem ranging from communication issues with the staff that prevented us from getting the food we ordered or sauces we wanted to more troubling digestive issues later that evening. Our last visit was a lunch on a chilly Monday afternoon. When we walked in the staff was wearing coats and it was obvious from the temperature in the restaurant (low 60s) that we wouldn't be taking ours off either. We sat at the bar and ordered some of our favorites and while the food came out hot it was served on stone cold ceramic plates. Even the soup spoon that came with the hot and sour soup was stone cold! Needless to say the food cooled quickly and it made for a very disappointing meal. As I reflect on my own experiences and read through the other reviews it's clear that TAKA needs to take a look at the strength of its management team. Clearly judgment, focus, and team discipline need to be improved if they are to have any possibility of success. read more

I wanted to like this restaurant, I really did. We should have walked out when we stood there for several minutes waiting - no one was at the front desk. We weren't there at some weird time either, it was dinner. I will start out with the good. The menus are lighted. Silly, I know, but it was a fun surprise when you first open them up. Then it went downhill. Food is ok - and that's the best I can say about it. My husband like the sushi, but the rest of the group got Chinese food or Thai and it was meh. I ordered a SUPER mild Thai curry. When it came it was SOOOO spicy - I could tell by just looking at it - there was that slick of red hot oil coating everything. AND there was a ton of cabbage in it. I have never had a curry that was 80% cabbage and had little to no sauce - ick. I asked them to take it away - and the waitress asked if I wanted another one - milder. Overall great place, decent food and reasonably priced. You're greeted with menus that light up. Pretty wild. Faucets in the bathrooms light up too. On to the food though.. sushi is good, larger variety than most lunch specials. Crab Rangoon's were great, We're excited this finally opened up in The Point and will be bringing our kids soon to try the hibachi. BORING. This place is expensive and flavorless. We shared appetizers, mai tais, and I got the salmon teriyaki. The crab rangoons were good, the mai tai was strong but full of ice, and when I asked for extra teriyaki sauce for my salmon (since it was so flavorless), when I poured it on it added literally ZERO more flavor. I don't even understand how the teriyaki sauce was so flat, bland, tasteless. The boneless ribs had NO boneless rib flavor -- no sweetness, not sauce-flavor; it was like eating plain meat. And not for nothing...each appetizer was at LEAST $10. I'll still go back and try the hibachi since there aren't many other ones around, but boy...I am in no way eager to get back there. read more

I stopped in on a Thursday about 330 pm. Absolutely no one in the place. That should have been the red flag. But I went to the bar and sat. Ordered a headhunter and no garnish just a straw. The girl who served me was not the bartender. Then the bartender comes in with pizza from Anthony's for the workers. No problem ,but every time the bartender or waitress dealt with me they had a mouthful of pizza and it was quite honestly disgusting. I had lunch at Taka today. It offers a very pleasant atmosphere and courteous staff. The food left me with a bit of a quandary. As a chef, I appreciate the effort that went into the preparation and presentation of each dish, but the typical Asian flavoring, and seasoning were pretty much nonexistant. I had both the Seafood Soup and the Hot and Sour. I suppose it's okay for the Seafood Soup to be a tad bland, but I would have expected garlic, scallions, and cilantro. When I make it, I also add soy, sesame, sirachi, and lime juice. Likewise, the Hot and Sour Soup was neither. Although the usual ingredients were all there and perfectly cut, there was no heat or other typical Asian spices. My 95 year old mother had tempura shrimp and veggies, egg rolls, chicken fingers, and fried rice. The presentation was beautiful and the rice was clearly made from scratch. There was a dark sauce for the tempura, but she was looking for salt and pepper shakers - which were not on the table. They had mustard and duck sauce in bright yellow and red mustard and ketchup squeeze bottles, but no soy sauce or chili paste. I grew up in Acton and I've noticed the community has far more Asian and Indian residents these days. If TAKA is to succeed, they better pick up their seasoning game. Having enjoyed great meals with Asian friends in San Francisco and London, I know first hand how much they love their spices - as do I. There are so many Asian restaurant that are better than this one in the neighboring towns, I would skip this one and go there. Overall, the food did not taste fresh and was extremely salty. The server was constantly rushing us. He kept coming by and asking questions or to take plates away. The bill came with the desert. And, he did it while the restaurant was mostly empty. We are nice people. I don't know why he wanted to get rid of us. First, I ordered shumai (steamed dumplings) and some sushi. the shumai was cold and I sent it back. We got a new order that was warm, not hot. But, it absolutely tasted like the shumai you would get in a frozen box from Trader Joe's. I mean it. I have eaten that. And the sushi did taste a little off. We had two main courses of Chinese style food. The sauces are very thick and heavy with lots of corn starch and salt. I like Chinese food where the flavors of the ingredients shine. Not here. The overall result was so salty, bland and thick that I did not eat most of it. One of the dishes was asparagus and chicken, neither of which seemed fresh. The other was a sizzle dish of meat, chicken and shrimp. Everything tasted the same. Honestly, the flavors blended together and the sauce overpowered them all. The only dessert was fried ice cream. My friend asked for regular ice cream. It was not available. ------------ Update: I wrote this review while at the restaurant. Within moments, the woman who runs the front of the house, came to our table. She saw the review and immediately wanted to respond. She apologized for the food and the service. She made a point of telling us that they want to improve and they want us to come back. She said that she would talk to the chef and to the server about our comments. She also made things right. So, I may give them another try only because of her. Went to Taka this afternoon and had the most fantastic meal. Was greeted by the hostess the second we walked in and made us feel very comfortable. Everyone loved my rather large service dog. We ordered several appetizers and several main dishes. The flavor and quality of everything was excellent! Every dish had its own unique taste and aroma. The inside of the restaurant was very nice and I have never seen menus that light up so you can read them without having to turn on one's cell phone spotlight! Outstanding! Went there for lunch with my boyfriend. We ordered beef lo mein and general gaos chicken. Half the chicken in the general gaos was pink on the inside. Not only that, he had an allergic reaction and swollen lip (he's allergic to peanuts) no allergen information was online and nothing on the menu had peanuts so he assumed it was safe. The portions were small, the drinks had no alcohol n them whatsoever and were $20.00 for a as scorpion bowl. We didn't eat any of it and gave it back including the fruit drinks and they gave up a $75.00 bill even tho we didn't eat anything. So finally we settled inn$50.00. I would NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. There is so much salt in the food that even though I took my blood pressure medicine today I now need to go home and take another one. This food drinks and service was atrocious! After 3 hrs of driving, we are glad that we stopped at Taka. Fresh sushi, nice hot flavorful udon noodle soup and fabulous Teppanyaki was just what we needed. Always friendly staff and incredible food. But I have to say the bartender tonight was beyond amazing(haven't had a bad one yet). I don't remember his name but we were in around 4:30-5:30 tonight and he was so friendly, funny and attentive with our being over the top. I have never had a bartender ask specifically if the drink was to sweet or not sweet enough. He let us know that he was keeping an eye out for our sushi. After we tipped him he came over and thanked us for being so generous (first time that had happened to me too). Highly recommend taka for their food drinks and staff! read more

This is mostly a hibachi place. I sat in the small dining room and got sushi. Although it was ok, nothing special, the sushi and sashimi platter came with "white tuna", a cheap fish I don't eat (google it). Good sushi restaurants do not serve white tuna. I've been for the hibachi, which I really enjoyed. Other than that, I got some peking ravioli, that were without a doubt, the frozen kind. I'd expect for the price to be the style of other local places, with the thicker wonton on the outside. I also got the sushi special roll, the Mt. Fuji. That was really good, other than when it said mayo on top, I expected spicy mayo. My own assumption, but plain mayo on sushi just isn't right. After taking that off, they were fresh and tasty. Really disappointed in the ravioli, though. For a newer restaurant trying to portray a more modern and classy caliber, it's time to go homemade and make them worth it. read more

After moving from living in Tokyo to this area two years ago we struggled to find a good local sushi place that was consistent and had offerings not so Americanized that it was still sushi. Taka is that place. The rice is the deciding factor in a sushi place Sushi places that can't get the fish are not going to be in business for more than a week. However unless you've had proper short grain sushi rice cooked under the right pressure with sushi vinegar sugar and salt in the right proportions you may not realize it's just not right. It is here. Presentation is important too the Japanese eat with their eyes more than their mouths and if the food is sloppy it probably isn't prepared very well anyway. Taka gets extra points for presentation too! From their light up menus, the lights they have in the sushi platters, to the light up faucets in the restrooms it's very Tokyo cheek. I know the owners are not Japanese but it doesn't matter they pay attention to detail and I take my friends and family here all the time the Chinese and Thai food is nice too. If you're looking for good sushiI highly recommend Taka I haven't tried the Tepenyaki (Japanese steak house) AKA Hibachi which is actually the Japanese word for charcoal grill. Pretty decent sushi, highly americanized asian cuisine. Nothing too impressive. I haven't tried the hibachi though, I just ordered the samurai roll, a california roll, an alaskan roll, pad thai, and the tuna nachos. The samurai roll was good, but the pad thai and the tuna nachos were disappointing. The pad thai lost some of its authentic thai flavor, perhaps because Americans aren't used to it. The tuna nachos were just four pringles with spicy tuna on top of it, I wouldn't really consider those nachos. In conclusion, there are probably better places to go for sushi around here, but it's not too bad. read more
