Came here for a late lunch with my friend Elena J. I've been here in the past and probably had one of the best dining experiences of my life (teppan yaki) I ordered their Bulgogi Korean bbq as well as a roll of sushi. A friend had told me in the past that Takamatsu tends to skimp on their bulgogi which is why I ordered sushi as well. However, the Bulgogi came out first and surprisingly there was a s**tload of bulgogi. Much more than i anticipated and had I known I wouldn't have ordered their sushi. Unfortunately this was a case of quantity over quality. The beef was kind of dry despite being drenched in oil but it was tough. The onions underneath were barely grilled. The flavor was lacking. As I was eating the beef I could taste something there but it just wasn't as much flavor as I've had in the past or am accustomed to. As I was finishing up my bulgogi I couldn't help but wonder where my sushi roll was. My friend and I noticed that the people adjacent to us got their rolls first but came in much later than us so we assumed they forgot our order. So we asked our server and she said that they have been working on it (nice save) and that it would be our shortly. About 5 minutes later it finally arrived but we were already really full from the first meal however we couldn't leave any fallen soldiers behind. I don't remember which roll I ordered exactly but it had the tempura flakes, salmon, eel sauce, and other ingredients. I was expecting a little more tempura flakes in my roll but in this roll the barely just added it on like sprinkles. What made the roll a little unpleasant was that they basically drowned the thing in eel sauce and the whole time I just kept thinking to myself how I couldn't taste anything else because the eel sauce was too strong. The service here was great, my server was able to help my friend Elena J. out since she's never really had Korean food before. Water was never empty and she was really courteous and I highly doubt the sushi being late was her fault. Takamatsu is a very expensive outing as well. Both times I've been here I paid around 30 dollars. The amount of food you get justifies the price but the quality and taste just doesn't. I really want to try the lunch buffet they have here because I am just a sucker for buffets. Food: 3/5 Service: 5/5 Decor: 4/5 Price: 1/5 Overall I would only recommend Takamatsu to my friends if its for a special outing just because the dining decor and atmosphere are really nice and the food is good. But for quick lunches that's light on your wallet? Nope try somewhere else because this place will put a hole in your pocket than the one left by the fire that brought it down in the first place. read more

I had been here once before before the arson episode and it was great then. Came back recently to a renovated, and less quaint/cozy atmosphere. Lots of stainles steel details. The waiter was somewhat impatient and not very personable. The korean side dishes that come with entrees had changed and weren't as good. Apparently, in order to get a side of romaine lettuce for your bulgogi, you have to order 2 entrees and use the BBQ. We had to pay extra since we ordered one. Also, at the end of the meal, they used to offer a small cup of spiced, cold tea. Not any more. It's too bad really, since there are only a Korean spots in Tucson. Try those instead. read more

First/last time here. Came with a group and the kitchen closes at 10pm. we called ahead, and ordered well before 10pm. The waitress kept coming and taking one order at a time for our somewhat large group for some inexplicable reason. So it took about 45 minutes for her to get through everyone. She then tells us after 10 that those that ordered dinners couldn't get those dinners because the kitchen staff was sent home, even though we ordered before the kitchen was closed. The manager was useless in resolving the issue. One person ACTUALLY got a water refill as a plus I guess. read more

Service was absolutely dreadful. Unbelievably slow. All you can eat sushi for $19.95 with some really great selections and some really great tasting choices (the Rocky Point Roll was amazing!) saved this from being a 1 star place. The food is always good here, but the last two times, the service has been abysmal. I'm not sure if there's a server shortage or management issues, but the last time I was there (yesterday), we waited on a server to come for 10 minutes until finally giving up and moving to the sushi bar, only to have a server come once and then never again. The time before that, our waiter was MIA half the time, and the couple next to us waited 10 minutes before flagging a random server down, who told them no one alerted the staff they had been seated. read more

Was there during their re-grand opening. Had the all you can eat sushi and was totally disappointed. They stuff the rolls with rice and the fish does not look nor taste fresh. After that experience, we are turned off by their food and wouldn't want to try their BBQ. Can't imagine how much attention they would pay to the quality of their food. read more

First time to this restaurant and I must say that it is okay, but not the best. The staff was very nice and caring, but it kinda bothered me how the waitress kept bending over me to talk to the person on my left at the booth. Also, I wished that there were utensils at the table, more napkins, and that they'd give out extra bowls and plates without having us to ask. The food, it was okay. Since it was my first time with others as well, we didn't know what to order, but it wasn't the best food that we've had. I just wished that there were more on the menu as most of the food were hot & spicy and that was a thumbs down. We actually came for the buffet, but was disappointed that it only ran for a short period of time. I seriously wish that the buffet was always available, as I have heard that the buffet was really good. The ladies' restroom wasn't that clean... Beside everything else, the service was very good. Our waitress answered many questions and helped us decided what to get. On top of that, one of us ordered the wrong food and they gladly removed it from our bill. I've been to their lunch buffet several times, there's a wide variety, the waiters are attentive and courteous, and the food is very, very good for an AYCE buffet. Lots of Japanese and Korean variety. I've been to the sushi bar only once since they arose from the ashes of the fire a few years back, it was a great experience. It was early, as we were going to a concert, and the sushi chefs were friendly and efficient, and the sushi was extremely fresh and tasty. I recommend this restaurant highly. read more

Takamatsu is owned and run by Koreans. Having said that, their Korean offering is superb. I have moved to Boston for a while now, but I still miss the Pork Bulgogi, Yukejang soup, Chapchaebop, stir-fried spicy cuttlefish and many other dishes. It's definitely one of the best Korean restaurants around, even with fairly high prices. Believe it or not, I havent' found pork bulgogi as good as Takamatsu's even in the Boston area! If you are going for saki-bombing or good sushi, you may find better stuff at a real Japanese restaurant. The whole teppen-yaki thing is an American invention anyway. You get what you ask for. My favorite sushi restaurant is Sushi Ten on Speedway. Very generous portions at reasonable prices. I believe that's the only Japanese owned and operated sushi restaurant in Tucson. Being fair to the great Korean dishes Takamatsu chefs cook up, I'm more than happy to give them 5 stars! read more

Went there today for the all you can eat sushi & the Service and food was awful! Plus if that wasn't bad enough-They charge $ 25.95 pp!! it is so not worth it!Half way through my meal I bit into a piece of chicken teriyaki (which btw, was the only thing that tasted good) and a Long black HAIR was cooked into it, which I had to pull out of my mouth after chewing it!! The hair had to be at least 12 inches long! So utterly disgusting!! I almost vomited my food. We spoke to the manager and she didn't seem to react to the fact that I had a mouthful of hair in my food that I pulled out of my mouth! Apparently, this must happen often!! So Gross!! I will never be going back and I'll be sure to spread the word about my horrible experience! Do not eat there! read more

This has become my favorite Asian restaurant in Tucson. I come for the bulgogi dolsot bibim bop and tofu soup, but we always end up ordering so much more from their Korean/Japanese menu. They have a great happy hour and I'm still looking forward to trying their Korean bbq soon! read more

Ate here while on a road trip and I have to say... WTF! The food is actually pretty authentic (the Korean food). My family each ordered their favorite dish and somehow, it all came out quite nicely. I ordered the yook gae jang just for the hell of it and it tasted alright but they didn't use the right kind of meat... kinda made me wonder why. Other than that, everything else was pretty good... even my parents approved of the authenticity. We also ordered a spicy tuna crunch roll for variety. Don't get it. Actually... I don't know if I'd recommend sushi here... it's just not that great. I guess not bad considering Tucson isn't over saturated with sushi restaurants. Service was great and like everywhere you go in Arizona... plenty of parking! Best Korean restaurant in Tuscon! or is it the ONLY Korean restaurant? Regardless... It's authentic so who cares. We didn't want to get smokey but we all want to have the barbecue, do we asked them if they can cook it for us, they said no, and the server always forget to fill the drink and forget spoons........never go their again! read more

If your looking for good Japanese food this is the spot for ya. At one point in time this was the only Restaurant My family would have birthday parties at. They cook Te-pan style in front of you or you can cook your own food ( which you could of stayed home for that). Or you can sit at the sushi bar.They have a private room also for parties traditional Japanese style . This is definitely a place to come to whether your from out of town or a resident. Went with 6 other people, two of which had never had sushi, and it wasn't bad. It was a Tuesday, so the place was pretty sparse of dinners. The males of course ordered too much Korean BBQ, enough to feed another 2-3 people, so know that is typically portioned for 2, not 1. The food was good, but the service wasn't so hot. There was only one server it looked like, but it was difficult to get his attention regardless and he wasn't super friendly. It was overall average. Nothing to write home about. Takamatsu used to be one of our favorite places. We were devastated when it closed and could not wait until it reopened and had been planning a trip there with friends who had never experienced the bulgogi and wondered why I was so obsessed with it. In review of our dining experience, I can say that the Bulgogi is still good but we all agreed that our visit was overshadowed by terrible service from an arrogant and dismissive millenial with no waiting or customer service skills whatsoever. Ok...takamatsu has the best, most fresh sushi...the ONLY reason, it gets any stars at all.when I go out for sushi,i always get all you can eat. And I pay and tip at the beginning of my order, because i'm a smoker and like to walk i'm and out of the restaurant, without employees questioning if I paid, or what..well my service started off great, so I tipped generously and paid my tab...boy was this a mistake! the waitress went missing, and it took her and two managers over 20 minutes to get me a single roll of sushi...i well go back due to the quality of the food, but the service MUST improve! read more

This was my first time here but my fiancé has been here multiple times and loved it so he wanted to bring me here. I was definitely not impressed and my fiancé was by far happy with the service we had gotten. We did the Korean BBQ which was alright. It was interesting having to cook our own food, but we were left to figure out everything on our own. We barely even saw our server and everything took forever to be brought to us. For having to cook your own food you would think you would have fast service, but no. It took 20 min. for us to be seated which we were told when we walked in and were ok with. Than it took 20 min just for our server to take our drink order so we were ready to order, but our server just took our drink order and walked off. About 15 min. later she finally brings our drinks. We figured maybe the jojoba tea we ordered might have taken a little bit to make, but nope. 30 min. later after our drinks were brought and we placed our food order, our food was finally brought out. Maybe it was wishful thinking that since the food was raw and we were having to cook it ourselves that it would be brought out fast, but nope...again. We cooked our food and ate and everything tasted good which is the only thing we were happy with. The whole time we cooked our food and ate we were never checked on once to see if we wanted a refill of our drinks, to see how cooking our food was going or to see how everything was tasting. It wasn't till we were done with everything that she came back just to give us our check. She saw we were done so she asked if we needed a to go box which I said I did and than finally asked if I needed a refill of my drink. My fiancé went to go pay after about 10 min of waiting for my box. He saw our server running around and asked if she was going to bring our box any time soon. She replied that I said no which I am sure she heard me say yes so she brought him one when he was waiting to pay. This was the worst service we have ever experienced and we'll never come back. I know some servers have their bad days, but this place was not that busy for how many servers they had and that server should just be let go. This place is nicely remodeled. The women's bathroom was very clean. The seating in the dining room doesn't have particularly interesting decor, so we chose to sit at the sushi bar. Which was an excellent idea. The waitstaff was almost too good -they were super prompt and attentive - we never had to wait for water or another order of saki :-) The sushi chef we had was really fun. He chatted with us a bit, left us to our own conversation when we wanted it, was perfect. and he gave recommendations for some pieces of sushi to try and he was SPOT ON! So definitely talk to them about specials or anything they'd recommend. The sushi was honestly some of the best I've had in town. The garlic ahi pieces were my favorite - the roll that they cook in an open flame is another really fun one to try! read more

A tasty, wonderful place to eat. For a family of 5, it's reasonably priced. The managers are always friendly and because we have been repeat customers, they always come and chat with us at the table. We always enjoy everything we eat there, and in Tucson, it's the closest to authentic from the country Korean food. Banchan is always refilled and the servers are on task. Kids meals are a great size, and substitutions can be made. We have never had a bad experience there. They also have take out, a bar, and Karaoke. read more

The best Korean BBQ in Tucson/one of the ONLY Korean BBQ in Tucson(the other one is Azian). We always get the BBQ and it's pretty good for the most part. Get the short ribs, they are the best and the portions are large. Never had the sushi here but the beef bone soup here is also really good. read more
