    Mushroom Miso Soup

3.5/5 Good, not great. The fish quality is good enough to trust but it has never wowed me (I had only ordered delivery before this visit). I ordered the prime nigiri tasting, and they were able to accommodate for allergies which I appreciated. The miso was loaded with mushrooms. The salad it came with was quite wimpy. Overall a solid, convenient sushi spot but a bit overpriced for what it is. Very kind service and cute ambiance but I won't go out of my way to come here.

Amazing restaurant with wonderful sushi, appetizers, desserts, sake, and cocktails. The happy hour is great as is the service. We had a Groupon which didn't work well on their system with Happy Hour but the manager made sure it applied. Ambiance is nice and swanky upstairs in 14th Street with cherry blossom decor. I believe it used to be part of Thaiphoon which had sushi and Thai and went to during a work conference several years ago. Now there is a seperate Thai restaurant downstairs that may be co-owned as they were also on Groupon.

I stopped by this establishment for happy hour while hopping around different spots, and overall, it was a nice experience. When you first walk in, there's a noticeable fishy smell, but aside from that, the happy hour pricing is very reasonable drinks and bites under $10, which is hard to beat in DC. I ordered a house margarita; it could've been a bit stronger, but it was still enjoyable. I paired it with a yellowtail sushi roll (eight pieces), which was fresh and flavorful. I'd definitely recommend coming back to this place for the great ambiance, solid happy hour deals, and fresh sushi , something that can be tough to find in the DMV area. I would say the service was also impeccable, the waitress returned on multiple occasions to see if my party and I wanted more bites and drinks

We happened to be nearby and wandered in on a Tuesday and were able to take advantage of the all day happy hour. Love the intimate atmosphere! Ordered the seaweed salad, Shumai, salmon, yellowtail, ebi specialty roll. We ended up ordering an additional eel hand roll (taco style), and California roll because we were both still super hungry (the happy hour portions are teeny). The eel hand roll was the best thing we ate, and the lychee cocktail was a let down-WAY too sweet. Service was great! We were happy overall with the meal but felt like the happy hour wasn't a great bargain.

Stopped in since Takara was around the corner from my hotel. This spot did not disappoint! I was a bit late for the lunch crowd so not many tables were full when I arrived. The service was extremely attentive. My server was polite and constantly checking in without hovering. I opted for the AYCE lunch option - classic. $28 was a STEAL! If I could go back today I would! Everything I ordered was freshly made and absolutely delicious. So flavorful and fresh. High quality ingredients. I was so pleased with the quantity of food I received. If I didn't have to head to afternoon meetings, I would have kept going. I ordered 11 different dishes. Each portion was generous without being too big! I'll be dreaming of Takara 14 every time I crave sushi for months to come!

Coming from the PNW, my sushi standards are very high and this place did not disappoint. This restaurant had a really cute ambience and great service (which makes the world's difference) and is tucked away on the second floor of a building which makes for a very cute date night spot (also because it is slightly on the more expensive side). My favorite roll of the night was the onyx which had seared salmon AND shrimp tempura. The textural contrast combined w the rest of the delicious flavors made for the perfect bite, 10/10. The other rolls were great too, but I found the citrine to be too salty and too few of pieces for how much it cost. Overall, can't wait for to be back!

If you're looking for a cozy Japanese spot with upscale vibes in DC, Takara14 is it. I went this past Saturday and it was steady but not packed. This family-owned restaurant was a pleasant surprise. It's tucked away on 14th Street and offers a two-floor layout that gives intimate yet modern energy. The upstairs dining area is sleek, stylish, and perfect for a date night or small group dinner. Our server Alex was amazing--attentive, knowledgeable, and kind. He helped guide us through the menu and made some great suggestions. We started with a few happy hour cocktails: the lychee geisha, lady of kyoto, mango mojito, and a classic margarita. All were fresh, balanced, and beautifully presented. For appetizers, we tried the shumai, pork gyoza, chicken karaage, and seaweed salad. Each dish came out hot, flavorful, and perfectly portioned. The entrees were the real star. The seafood yaki ramen had depth and flavor in every bite, while the curry tonkatsu was crispy on the outside and tender inside, with rich curry sauce. Takara14 is a hidden gem with elevated food, great service, and a chill atmosphere. Whether you're new to Japanese cuisine or a longtime fan, this place belongs on your DC foodie list.

In celebration of AAPI heritage month, I wanted to support a few local businesses. Takara is a gem! I of course, went there for an early lunch so it wasn't at all packed. Very cute decor, large dining space, and an authentic sushi counter. Drinks: I ordered the Yuza Yakra and this drink can best be described as a great selection for lunch or brunch! It felt like a mimosa but that was because of the rich citrus taste. So satisfying and perfect summer drink. Appetizer: I ordered the spicy salmon roll as a starter and honestly, this was DELICIOUS! I could have stopped my food journey right there but I had to savor the moment and make room for more. It was fresh, well prepared, and tasty! Main dish: for my main I had the Tonkatsu, fried pork. This was AMAZING! Perfectly seasoned and well portioned. What I would say is that it wasn't evenly cooked as some pieces were dried out while others were more juicy. Aside from the imbalance in cook, the flavor was delectable and I had enough to take home. Overall, this was a great experience and I plan on supporting this business again.

    Alexandrite Sushi Roll

Came in here on a Sunday after getting destroyed at a hiit workout class; so it was much needed! Luckily there were no other patrons there at the time, so I was seated instantly and service was smooth. I ordered the Alexandrite sushi as a starter, and WOW. This roll was delicious. It was literally love at first bite. 10/10 would order again. It was a chilly day so I decided to order ramen. No regrets, but I would not order the Kuro Ramen again. It was not bad, but it was not a standout/anything special in my humble opinion. Overall, it was a cozy place and had a decor that said date night or special occasion. I will definitely be returning to try more sushi!

Tempura and salmon roll. Forget the name. It was really good.

Stopped into for dinner. Had a couple amazing rolls, some delicious sushi. Service was great and the interior is really nicely decorated. Also, had a really great Old Fashioned. The upstairs location is nice to watch the action on the street outside.

What a cute little sushi place. The place is decorated beautifully. They also serve inventive fusion sushi on their happy hour menu such as the burrito style or taco style of sushi. The portions are small so plan to spend a lot.

Came with my good girlfriend to try some Japanese food and absolutely loved it! Our server was Alex and he gave good recommendations and because we sat at the bar we had a more intimate experience with him. The restaurant is decorated nicely with flowers and lights, great for a girls night or date night.

For $45 per person, the all-you-can-eat experience feels like a really solid deal considering how many protein options and side dishes you get. They start you off with a variety of banchan (side dishes), including a salad with this super tasty dressing that had the perfect little spicy kick. For the BBQ, we kicked things off with the spicy bulgogi and butter garlic shrimp, while the others tried the pork belly (I don't eat pork). Later we ordered the steak, spicy brisket, and grilled squid, which were all delicious. The spicy brisket especially was a standout for me. The guys also ordered two rounds of fried dumplings that looked amazing, but since they contain pork, I had to sit those out. I'd love to see Chadol add a veggie dumpling option to the menu! As for the sides, the kimchi and cold glass noodles were both hits at our table, and of course we all added white rice. The "mashed potatoes" though? Definitely more like potato salad and unfortunately very bland. On the other hand, the cheese corn costs extra but is 1000% worth adding. For drinks, the guys enjoyed the Woody Old Fashioned while I had a mezcal margarita-style cocktail that was smoky and refreshing. We also ordered one of the chicken options but never received it and eventually just gave up on it. One of the coolest parts of the experience is the ordering system. Most meats are ordered directly from a machine at your table, and the food comes out quickly on this conveyor belt-style setup which was honestly so fun. Drinks and side dishes are ordered through the servers. The atmosphere was lively and energetic without feeling overwhelming. The restaurant is actually much larger inside than I expected, with a modern setup that works well for smaller groups. That said, I didn't really notice tables for larger parties, so I'm not sure how they accommodate groups bigger than 6 people. Service started off a little rough because our server wasn't very attentive, but after I called it out, he definitely stepped it up and things improved. Overall, Chadol was a really good experience and absolutely worth the price. The 1.5-hour seating limit makes sense too, both to keep things moving and give others a chance to enjoy the experience. I'd definitely go back!
