Yam tempura roll with cucumber
Ria G.

The takara sushi at boundary road is a nice sushi place for sushi lovers. It offers palatable and delicious sushi options both for vegetarians and non vegetarians. We tried so many different things at once. In appetizers we ordered edmame, Ebi mayo , agedashi tofu ( my personal favorite). For sushi we ordered sunshine roll and yam tempura roll in vegetarian and unagi roll, smoke salmon rolls. Being a vegetarian I had the vegetarian dishes and they were fresh and nice in taste plus really filling. My non vegetarians friends loved the eel role and prawns in mayo the most but they also savoured other rolls. The staff and service is friendly and this is quite a busy place so there is waiting time. The ramen is not that good and this restaurant is more about its Sushi. Overall good experience and it's a nice warm ambience as well. Do try!!

Fresh and tasty food. Clean restaurant with friendly service. The sushi rose was a wonderful touch and keeps me smiling. Will be back for sure!

Decent food. Quick service. Average bathroom. Ordered Bento Box C for $26. Kind of felt like it looked a little sparse, quantity-wise, but ended up being okay, even with giving two tempura to my cousin. Servers were great about giving us a cold water jug really quickly when we asked. Goma-ae was a bit salty for my liking. Will try something else if I return (not my usual neighbourhood). Mostly Asian clientele which is a great sign.

Everything was really good here! We went quite late around 8pm so there was no wait. The presentation was on point. The salmon avocado roll was generously stuffed! The salmon oshi had mango in the middle but I couldn't really taste it but it was still delish. The aburi toro ($4/pc) was nice and fatty. Wish I got more aburi nigiri! The chicken kaarage was boneless and crispy and the spicy mayo it came with was tasty. The Paradise roll was topped with something a bit salty so probably wouldn't get that again but the mango and cucumber inside were quite refreshing.

Amazing service, food quality, and very friendly staff! Everything tasted very fresh and we ordered two additional rolls after (Double Tuna Roll and Atlantic Roll). Presentation of each dish was great and because we sat at the bar, we had the privilege of watching the chefs make the sushi and sashimi dishes. Would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a top notch sushi place to try/eat at. It was packed from the moment we got in until we left and there were still people waiting as well.

I was very underwhelmed by the rolls here and preferred the individual nigiri pieces more. Prices are a bit on the high side as well. Overall was disappointed by my experience given the high ratings. My friend and I came for dinner on Thursday right when they opened at 5 and was the first table seated. They have limited parking in the parking lot next to the restaurant, but there's additional parking in the back as well. There's a sign that says 1 hour parking only, but not sure how well that's enforced. Takara offers a limited alcohol menu with beer and sake. For food, in addition to sushi, they have a wide range of appetizers, salads, donburi / rice bowls, noodles, bento boxes, etc. All the options you typically find at a Japanese joint. My friend and I split 3 sushi rolls and I ordered some additional nigiri pieces as well. We tried the smoked salmon roll ($8), the dragon roll ($13), and the spider roll ($13). Of the three, the smoked salmon roll was by far my least favorite. They put sooooo much cream cheese in the roll and it really detracts from it. After one piece, I took out the rest of the cream cheese in the other pieces because it was so overpowering. The spider roll was my favorite, as I didn't like the cucumber in the Dragon Roll. In addition to the very underwhelming smoked salmon roll, my one other major complaint about the meal was the soy sauce. It was incredibly salty, and I always found myself either dipping too much or too little. For the nigiri, the regular pieces run anywhere from $2 to $4 per piece, and for aburi run $3.50 to $4 per piece. I had one piece of salmon and chopped scallop, as well as aburi salmon belly and aburi toro. All 4 pieces were really good, though a bit on the pricy side imo. I paid ~$40 after tax and tip.

Service was quick on a weekend, and food was delicious and competitively priced in the area. I really liked their oshi. There is adequate seating in the restaurant, but may be challenging for groups larger than 4.

Small Japanese gig along Canadaway, street parking and by the rear free. Very neat place and excellent friendly service. From the glass panel seperating their kitchen and dining area you can see how clean and fresh the foods are, that is a big plus in a restaurant. Interior design is chic and contemporary...Japanese inspired.Noise level is average. I got the calamari for my appez and it tasted very very good. And I also try the Tuna tataki not so large serving, this one I like so much, the blending of dressing and the tuna fish really really good, anything a bit sour is the weakness of my tastebuds. Actually I havent notice this place despite passing the area from time to time. Good for small group and kids friendly. They accept cash, debit and credit. I would love to come back and bring some friends who enjoys Japfoods as well. I recommend this place...

Late meal with Takara... I always meant to come by here but whenever I have time, it's either closed that day or I am too late. Finally managed to sneak away myself for a last minute date with Takara to see what she's all about. This place is located on the south side of Canada Way close to Boundary Road. I managed to find free street parking in front. Inside can be described as a small little cozy place with about 10 tables and a 1/2 dozen seats along the bar. The little meal I ordered for myself; 1. Small hot sake. Just the generic one 2. Soft shell crab. Personally, a little bit too much batter and the batter was a bit too elasticity to my liking. 3. Oyster motoyaki. Basic straight to the point the way I like it sometimes; fresh oysters nicely baked thoroughly on their shells, caramelized little crust on top, and on a little bed of sliced mushrooms and spinaches. Loved it!! 4. Assorted sashimi. Everything was decently fresh but considering they were smaller bite size portion, a better chef's choice would've been nicer for $35. 5. Tuna toro, ikura, uni, tamago nigiris. Everything was decently fresh and tasty. Overall, pretty much a straightforward little cozy Japanese restaurant. The food was fresh and tasted okay for what they were, but always room for improvements. The staffs and servers were friendly and informative of the food being served. It's a nice little cozy place to enjoy a bit of casual sushi if you are in the area. However, if you are looking for money value with generous portions then I suggest somewhere else such as Sushi Garden or Sushi California, etc... A repeat for me whenever I crave for some oyster mototaki or uni... solid 3 stars

Came here for lunch with a friend and B. I got the Sashimi Combo and I added on top: one piece aburi saba and one piece of salmon nigiri. The sashimi combo came with dynamite roll, 2 pieces salmon sashimi, 2 pieces of tuna sashimi, 2 pieces of ebi and 2 pieces of chopped scallop. B and our friend each got the Combo Box C which came with gomae, gyoza, tempura, miso soup and 5 pieces of sashimi. The sushi were good but they were not wow. Prices are definitely more expensive than what you get at other restaurants. The aburi saba was very flavorful. It had a nice char on it. The salmon nigiri was very tasty. The salmon sashimi were fresh but it was just made with farmed salmon. I found the dynamite roll was basically one piece of prawn tempura and rest avocado rolled together. The other were tasty but nothing too special. I also found their tempura with lots of battered. They were not as crispy as I hoped it would be. I liked how they gave us a teapot to pour our own tea. This is super convenient and I really appreciate this little thing. Service was good. I appreciated how they cleaned our table frequently and checked up on us. In terms of parking, there are plenty of parking on the side street an as well as at the back of the restaurant. Overall, the food was very tasty and we will definitely be back.

Another great meal at Takara Sushi! We enjoyed the tuna tataki, salmon oshi, spider roll and dragon roll. The fish tasted fresh and delicious!

We ordered to go dishes Friday evening. Thank you for preparing special sauces which are different for each dishes. Very impressive service! As they have lots on the menu and honestly I chose to see someone's picture on Yelp. My favorite was Double tuna roll with spicy ponzu. Very refreshing, stuffing and creative dish. Black pepper was strong but I really enjoyed. And their karaage was really good too. Chicken was very tender and Juicy. Even the batter was so delicious. I wish they make a light snack using the batter. I couldn't stop eating.

Super friendly and attentive staff, great food, great service…read more I ordered the Chicken Cha Cha Cha and the Popcorn sushi. Both were super delicious. The Chicken Cha Cha Cha stayed crispy through the meal, wasn't able very sweet and just what I ordered (mild spicy). The popcorn sushi was delicious, think of a deep fried roll, but not. The food came out pretty quick and it was all very tasty. Oishi and Godzilla roll has a nice char flavour to it. My partner has come in to this spot a few times already and he has enjoyed his meals each time. He's taken out rolls before and they were still tasty after traveling 15 to 20 mins as well. First off, always bring a jacket here even if it's hot outside. The AC here is terribly cold. As regulars here for decades, sometimes with mild turbulent experiences, this specific visit highlighted a real decline in how the restaurant operates. We arrived close to sunset on a cool evening, yet the dining room was uncomfortably cold with air blowing directly on our backs. Staff can be seen to the side rubbing their upper arms trying to warm themselves. Patrons near us (tables really close) also expressed discontent with the chilly air and food. I asked a server if they could adjust the temperature twice. Finally, I got up and went to the counter and in broken English, the younger woman just shrugged and muttered that the AC was off, even though cold air was clearly still blowing--surely their HVAC system has a heater. After sitting there in a really cold dining room freezing and hearing other diners continue to complain, we decided to walk out without ordering. The cashier gave a completely scripted, insincere apology on our way out. It feels like they simply do not care about the dine-in experience or the tips customers leave anymore. I feel customers need to be more vocal and use their wallets as a method of approval. I also noticed a newly posted sign saying they now close between 3 and 4 pm for staff breaks, which seems to point to obvious staffing issues. There's way too many Sushi restaurants competing for business in the Highgate Metrotown area, this one has fallen off the rails. And I can't imagine how bad management is with these kinds of working conditions.
