GREAT sushi!!! We got mostly specialty rolls: the French kiss roll, Takara roll, crazy roll, and I think the Vegas roll (it's not really "sushi" but DANG good!). AND THEY WERE ALL THE HALF OFF ONES!!! For how cheap this sushi was it was AMAZING!! I grew up in California and we were just in Hawaii last month. Were we on the northern coast or in Japan, I'd not have given 5 stars, but considering we're in Logan, Ut. I wish I could give it more! I've eaten there numerous times and it has been a real pleasure every time, and, YES I do know what world class sushi is. The service has, every time, been courteous and thoughtful AND out of the way. The food prep is professional and artful (as one expects in the sushi world) and surprisingly quick. The menu includes several locally inspired dishes, i.e. Logan Roll, Mt. Logan Roll... (no trout, nor trout roe... yet) all has been properly prepared, every time, not loosely rolled or falling apart. They don't carry some of the more uncommon items I crave (i.e. uni [sea urchin roe], but they do have a very nice variety available, shrimp, salmon, smoked salmon, yellow tail, scallop, squid, salmon roe, tuna, albacore, mackerel, flying fish roe, eel, quail eggs, and more. I'm told they occasionally do carry uni, but I've not yet seen it. I don't know how it is scheduled, but I've been there more than once when a half price special was going on. The regular price is good for a sushi place, but this half price deal makes it... well... make me eat a lot more of it, I suppose... but, nevertheless it's a damn fine deal financially. Lastly, while it isn't critical, it is interesting, and appreciated by me, at least, that they serve saké and/or Japanese beers, which makes the experience more authentic AND pleasurable, in my, anything but humble, opinion... read more

I have never been disappointed here, especially with their sushi. I've had countless rolls here (10+) and the flavors a great and are good size rolls. I've had some other dishes there too. I can't remember everything, but the sushi is what stood out to me. Prices are a little bit more expensive compared to other stuff in the valley, but the quality just about makes up for it. You can usually find some kind of deal there too. read more

Wife brought me California rolls times two and a crunchy roll. The crunchy was on point - rock on! Will get more of this next time! The cali rolls though...well let's just say we're in UT. The imitation crab, I think was actually imitation imitation crab. The avocado was not super yummy and I was definitely not impressed with the Utahed California roll. This is where we go if we want sushi, and we have wanted sushi at least 15 times in the past few years. They have wonderful fresh sushi options to choose from at a really great price. I came on a Friday night and it was the worst service of my life. Nothing was done right. The waiting staff was horrendous. They didn't even serve us in the order we came in. I was given a very minuscule helping of wasabi and ginger but the couple next to me got two HUGE servings of wasabi and ginger and my helping was so small you can't even taste it. The difference between a mustard seed and a walnut! The Saki I asked for warm but they served it cold! Barely heated at all. Not acceptable! The waiting staff never even refilled my water nor did they even bother to ask how the food was. Plus for what they were charging it was way overpriced. Do yourself a favor and save your money for a better sushi bar. There are tons of choices in Logan. Don't come here. This place was a huge disappointment. read more

Truly puzzling that this restaurant currently garners a 4.5-star rating. I know we're talking Logan, so the sushi options are limited, but Tona in Ogden isn't that far away. I refuse to believe Yelpers haven't tried sushi other places. Takara is a small step above all-you-can-eat. If you like sushi drenched in sweet sauce and sriracha mayo, fine. Just because the name sounds like Japanese, don't think it Japanese real food. The place is run by Korean family and most of the items on the menu are tweaked more like Korean American flavor. Staff is very friendly and the decor of the restaurant is nice and clean. Plenty of seats so seldom have to wait. read more

I'll begin by saying there is no place in this town that has really great sushi, but this place is pretty darn good. I just don't like being misled by a big sign hanging on the front of the restaurant advertising sushi at 50% off. This may have been true a couple of years ago. However, in the last few months they have increased their prices between 20-50% per item depending on what you order. Additionally, if you takeout, they add a surcharge of 10% on your order. They call this charge a gratuity. I would prefer being charged a fair price without all the false advertising! I don't like this kind of business practice. Accordingly, I will be getting my sushi elsewhere from here on out. I gave two stars because their sushi is good if you don't mind being treated like you are too stupid to do the math and you don't know the meaning of the word gratuity. read more

This place loses stars because their prices keep going up, portions seem to have slightly decreased, and we've never had good service. No matter where we're seated, we have a hard time getting anyone to pay attention to us even though all the other tables around us are well serviced. One odd thing about this restaurant is that when you do get service, it's from at least two people. It makes tipping kind of difficult because we never have any idea who's going to get it. Even though this place focuses on sushi, I enjoy their entrées more. I always go with their Korean food - it's the most tasty. Also, I never skip the monkey balls. I've never seen anything like them anywhere else, and they're delicious. When I do want sushi, the caterpillar roll always hits the spot. It's my fiancé's favorite thing on the menu. This is the place where I first tried flavored sake, and it's a perfect accompaniment to the meal. I recommend raspberry or peach to anyone who's interested. If you order takeout, be aware that they automatically charge a 10% gratuity. read more

Requiem for Happy Sushi: I've lived in Logan for more than 10 years, and eaten at both Happy Sushi and Takara dozens and dozens of times. My youngest son started eating sushi at about 4-5 years old, and loves it (real, raw fish sushi, not just fake crab, etc.). We always liked Happy Sushi a little better. I felt like the quality of the fish and of the sushi chefs was a little bit consistently better there. Plus miso soup used to be just $1! We were sad to see it close, but hopeful that the quality (of fish and chefs) would be transferring over to Takara, since they have the same ownership. We used to only order Nigiri and Sashimi, but my sons have really come to love a variety of rolls as well and my wife and I enjoy joining them. You can see us pretty regularly on Sundays at Takara. Unfortunately, I just had the most disappointing meal at Takara Sushi this evening. It was the worst meal that I've had there in dozens of visits. It was due to both the quality of the fish (there was fish on at least two of the rolls that shouldn't have been served), as well as the quality of the construction of the rolls (the fish was cut wrong, one roll was not cut through all the way, so the pieces were sticking together, two of the rolls didn't hold together enough to dip into the soy sauce, etc.). Rolls that we normally like - e.g. French Kiss, didn't have the flavor (almost no lemon, and too old fish) that we expect. Too much attempt to cover all of this up with sauce. In summary: Very disappointed. My son (8) said that it had put him off sushi, and he actually spit out a piece of sushi, something he hasn't done since we made the mistake of trying to cheap it out at "all you can eat" Sushi Ya several years ago (don't ask). Hopefully this was just an off night, and not indicative of the future for sushi in Logan. We'll probably take a pause from Sushi for a while and try again in a month or two. I'm afraid the we haven't been motivated to give a good review in all of our past good visits, and I feel bad that now I'm leaving a bad one, but we're hoping the owners will see this and fix the problem before it hurts their business. We don't want to lose the best sushi resources in Logan all at once. read more

Good, relatively affordable sushi. My fiancee and I particularly liked the white tuna and the tempura. The white tuna was buttery and delicious, and the tempura was lightly battered and just the right crispiness (some sushi places can overdo it on the batter). If anyone can tell me what happened to this place I would really appreciate it. I was once a fairly regular customer, but my last few experiences here have been terrible! If the kitchen messes your order up, the management will refuse to fix it. They even put the old food on a new plate and tried to pass it off as a different dish. Nope, no way. Don't even think about coming to this restaurant any time after 8, they will make you feel completely unwelcome, bring out your appetizer, entree, and check all at the same time and then never even check on you once. When I arrived at Takara is was semi-busy, but not a single table had sake on it -which is an immediate red flag at any sushi restaurant. I don't trust people who don't drink sake with their sushi, and I knew these were the same people spreading the word about how great this place is. Still, ready for my "half price sushi" I sat down only to find out that their basic, low-brow rolls are part of the deal. The rest are around $15 and didn't appear to be anything all that special. Once it came out, it tasted like typical grade B sushi that was made a little better by being paired with sake. Luke-warm sake, which, now that I think about it, was one of the worst parts. Heat up your damn sake TAKARA. Anyway, crap rolls have crap prices, better rolls have higher prices but I wasn't going to make the investment to assess the value. My thoughts are if you're going to be spending $15-20 a roll for sushi in Utah, you better get your ass to Salt Lake and into Takashi. read more
