My original review was 5 stars because they installed a new garage door quick and in good cheer and cleaned up and were careful about windows etc build supplies stacked in there. But we've had troubles with the door not working for a while-off and on. not responding or going half up and then closing again on it's own. when I called it was $$$ just to come and check--too $$ for us. so we've been self fixing--trying lube on the rails, etc. trying to get it to work. forward to 2026 May: It just stopped working. Kept giving error codes that something was in the way--but the area was clear. would not close. so we pulled it manually and then nothing. No response at all. so we called another company to come and look. Herre's their take: 1. The springs used in the installation are the wrong size. Too small for the weight of the door so eventually the motor will burn out. That's $$$! 2. They never did the exterior keyed entry for me, though it was installed outside the door. I'm an Iraq vet w/TBI--short term memory SUCKS--and just totally overlooked that part as it had building stuff there. He said they should have got that wired up, programmed for me too. The proper sized springs are +-$500 to install. They refused to fix it properly, saying they' d charge me as time has passed. Yes, but it was not insta;;ed properly to BEGIN with. so? Worst customer service ever.. Just wanted a parts cost and the service done but they can't provide me the cost of the repairs with a rough estimation. Our 25 year old garage door needed overdue maintenance. You have to get pass the scheduler and trust that the job will get done. Cody arrived on time and got to work right away. He was familiar with the motor we had and addressed our immediate needs. He was done so quickly- the door works great now - replaced some springs and realigned the sensors. We'll have to replace the motor in the near future, but told me that there is "still life left in that motor". Our neighbor came home from an all nighter and crashed their car into our garage door causing a huge puka. We called Takase doors because they originally installed the garage door 14 years ago and we never had any maintenance issues or problems with the door. Takase Doors & Service came out the morning we called and provided a written estimate. The other estimates received were comparable with the one Takase provided, and we chose them. They continually checked in via text message to see if the insurance had processed the claim. It felt reassuring to know that they cared and would fit us into their schedule as soon as the claim was processed. Yesterday, 16 February 2025, our garage door broke - the plate connecting the arm to the door - and that happened because the lifting cable on the left side of the door got out of alignment. Contacted the property management folks, and they contacted Takase's. Sounded like it wouldn't be til Tuesday it could get fixed because of the holiday today, but Johnny made it out here right at noon, came in, assessed the situation, and got right to work. Very professional, efficient, and helpful. He even reinforced the door with some new bolts and a much sturdier plate than was there before. Super fast service and very friendly and skilled technical help! Our wiring was pretty old and we kept getting a wiring error / sensor blocked error message, so we had to manually hold the button down in order to close the garage door completely. I called Takase yesterday and they came by this morning and fixed it in 30 minutes! John Takase was the only of at least 4 garage door companies to return my call. (I'll never understand how any reputable business doesn't even bother to call you back, no matter how busy they might be. Shameful.) John sent his estimator over the next day, and within 2 days, replaced a double garage door that a tenant had knocked completely off its rails and was damaged beyond repair. The price was reasonable, the crew that performed the work were professional and efficient, and they hauled away the old door and left the place cleaner than they found it. So who do you call for prompt reliable service at a reasonable price? I and many others have found that Takase Doors and Service is the go to company to solve your problem. I have been a customer for close to 20 years, and there are many other loyal customers like myself. Repeat business speaks for itself! My recent episode begins with the "old faithful" Chamberlain garage door opener failing to raise my garage door fully on Tuesday. Takase Doors installed this unit I believe 17 years ago, and I never had a problem with it in the past, so its life was fairly reliable. I called Takase Doors for service and they said that they could send someone out on Wednesday afternoon. Late Wednesday morning I received a call from the Takase technician saying that he was on his way. Upon arrival the problem was determined to be a broken sprocket in the opener that could be replaced for a little over $350, or I could get a new Chamberlain Smart Opener at slightly more than twice the price. I elected to go for the brand new opener which also included a new rail, chain, remotes, etc. so it was a no brainer decision. Service by the technician was polite and informative with he taking the time to explain my options. I was informed that someone would be calling me within the next few days to schedule the installation. Takase Doors is very empathetic to people with garage door problems, and I received a call the next day informing me that they could come out and install the new opener on the following day. This was welcome news since it was a hassle parking the cars outside and having the garage door unsecured. The technicians called prior to coming to my home on Friday and arrived on time for the job. Kyle and Neil immediately went to work removing the old opener and hardware, then installed the new equipment. They worked quickly, neatly cleaned up the work area, and were polite. In less than an hour they had completed the install. After 17 years technology certainly advances, and the new opener compared to the old is like day and night. It has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and an app that you can expand its utility with features associated with the garage door. Also not to mention that the garage door opens so smoothly and quietly. If I knew that the differences between old and new were this significant maybe I wouldn't have waited till the opener broke to upgrade. This company sent a technician to look at our garage door and said it had to be replaced. They told my father they would get back to him with a quote. I told the office manager that only the spring needed to replaced and what parts would be needed. Two weeks later, I haven't heard back. Garage door spring broke on Saturday, started called to see if anyone would be willing to come out that day or next. Takata called back that Saturday afternoon to say they didn't have a time slot available the rest of the day, but for an extra charge would be able to come out on Sunday. On Nov 19, 2022 Takase Doors & Service LLC repaired my garage door. During the repair, there was a loud snap and a heavy metal rod being used by the workman was launched across my garage damaging my garage door, garage floor, and new Toyota vehicle. The workman completed the repair, took photographs of the damages, and assured me that the owner, John Takase, would be contacting me to address the damages. I also took photographs of the damage and the odometer reading (476 miles) for insurance purposes. On Nov 23, disappointed that I did not get a call from John Takase, I left a message with an employee requesting a call back. Meanwhile, I asked around for recommendations to reputable auto repair shops. The name of a family-owned and operated repair shop kept popping up so I scheduled an appointment for Dec 1. That's when I learned that the right rear panel of my vehicle that was damaged houses sensitive electronic equipment and blindspot sensors that require proper calibration to ensure that aany repairs meet all local, state and national operating requirements. I was also provided with a written estimate. The drive to Waipahu was long but well worth it. Over a month later, John Takase finally set up an appointment to meet me on Dec 24 to view the damages. His worker had told him it was "a small thing". The morning of Dec 24, he canceled and rescheduled for Dec 26. He showed up with his worker on Dec 26 and called the auto repair estimate "excessive". I assured him that the repair shop was reputable, highly recommended, and maintained multiple certifications. I also had checked with the dealership from which I purchased my vehicle and they had no concerns. John Takase offered me a "deal". He wanted to have his friend do the repair and if it did not meet my satisfaction, he said he would pay for the repair shop. On Jan 18, 2023, having not heard back from him and frustrated at the lack of progress, I sent a certified letter to John Takase asking if I should take it to second well known auto shop that was also ASE certified, well respected, and highly recommended by my friends/family for an estimate. He insisted that I take it to "his friend" for repair. At that point, my concerns with going to "his friend" were twofold: 1) conflict of interest and 2) John Takase had a copy of the original good faith estimate from the first auto shop creating a potential unfair business advantage to others. On Jan 30, I requested that we hand it over to our insurance companies to handle. It is Feb 13 and I have not heard from his insurance company. For the past three months the damage to my garage door, garage floor, and new car serve as constant reminders. read more

Cody from Takase Doors checked out our slow opening garage door that seemed dangerous and moving slower with each use. Our door needed a new engine, we opted for a newer model as the garage door was over nine years old and our model was so old it wasn't even made anymore. Takase doors began installing the garage door in latter January 2023 & has not completed the job. From door not operating properly to improper parts have delayed completion of this project. As of October 25, 2023, I was informed that the job for a simple 2 car garage door cannot be finished due to someone ordering the wrong size for the part to complete the job. Ok, so we needed our garage door replaced. It was urgent considering the whole thing was off. I was referred by my real estate agent to contact Takase to make arrangements and she specifically tells me to speak with "John" who is the owner. I give them a call and Mel answers the phone. I ask to speak with John and explain to him that John and my agent spoke regarding the garage door and he's aware of an arrangement that they discussed and what not. Mel then insists that he can help me and starts asking me questions. I specify what type of garage door we need, when we need it...and mind you we are living in a complex that is part of an association so there are rules we need to follow when making changes such as "changing our garage door"....he started being pushy about trying to get me to get approval from our association to get a completely different type of door even AFTER the fact that I had already mentioned to him about 5 times already that we absolutely cannot because and it has to be identical to the one we have now! He kept saying "well you think maybe they'd consider it since it's urgent?" The thing that bothers me is, he could've told me from the very beginning that they couldn't get the type of door I was needing or they didn't want to work on that type. Whatever the reason may be. In that case I would've went and looked for a different vendor. Ok so fast forward he tells me we can do it, sends me over an estimate...then tells me I need to buy the paint and primer and drop it off to their location. Because of the time frame we had I wanted to get this all done ASAP. So I went to Sherwin-Williams and got what I needed. Drive to Takase and drop the paint and primer off to Mel. At that time I ask him what's the time frame for everything to be done. (It's a Friday when I dropped everything he requested off) he then tells me by next week Wednesday or Thursday they'll be able to install because from the time they receive the paint they need about 2 days for it to dry before they can install. So I said ok that's fine. Wednesday comes and I don't hear from him the whole weekend or Mon or Tue. So I decide to call Mel on Wednesday 8am for an update. He doesn't pick up after my first 2 calls then finally calls me back. He tells me "hey we just got your garage door and we're going to start painting it right now"...ok first of all if you just got it and start painting it today then you can't get it installed on the expected days you told me. So then I asked so when will you be installing it, he tells me hopefully tomorrow (Thursday) then he starts asking me questions about our current garage door and it's condition, is it completely broken, blah blah blah. (Yes, we already went over all of this during our first telephone conversation) I tell him we don't have one right now, it's laying flat on our garage floor. Then he proceeds with "ohhhh, you know what I really hate to be the bearer of bad news"....so now I'm thinking WHAAAAAAAT now?!! Like things can't get worse, but it did. He tells me 2 of the panels were damaged and they can't work on it. They needed to order a new door which would take 4 weeks....or he also said "I'll try and see if I can find 2 panels for you" At this point I'm just so stressed out and frustrated. I honestly feel like they didn't even have the door in the office to be honest. I believe that Mel was just trying to buy some time, and what's worse is he even still tried to get me to use a door that was not in compliance with our association WHICH I already mentioned a million times that we absolutely cannot use. I wasted my time with this whole experience. I ended up cancelling the whole request and finding another vendor. Customer service is key. And that is something that this whole experience lacked. I do not recommend. There are other vendors who genuinely care about helping you especially in a time of need and urgency. read more

He did come out and was nice and polite... the first time. When I asked to schedule another appointment with him, he deterred the question and only threw back "What do you need to ask me?"; following up with "Are you getting the garage door or not???" because "I DON'T WANT TO COME OUT AGAIN AND WASTE MY TIME". I tried contacting this company because our subdivision had all garage doors installed by them. We wanted to get a quote on what it would be to replace our garage door to match the area instead of the standard ones. Mel was not very friendly when I spoke with him over the phone. I felt like I was done and didn't want to go with them after I got off the phone. Then, a week goes by and I get other quotes but, I felt like I still wanted to have a matching garage door which they only carry. I used the contact us method on their website on a Friday. Mel called back that same day and got more information on the door size and said they would email me the quote. I waited... and waited... of course only a week (but it seems long when you expect a quick response). The following Friday I called and asked them when they were going to email my quote. After shuffling through their paperwork they said oh, here you are. We will send it out today. I am still waiting.... So now, I have to be different from my entire subdivision because I will refuse to contact this company again and beg for them to take my money. My dads garage door was 30 years old and the panels were starting to crack and I was super worried that one day the garage doors were just going to fall on my dad or on one of the cars. I made an appointment to have a repair done to my garage door. I was told between 9 am to 12 noon. At 11:15 am, I called to confirm my appointment since no one had come yet. They checked my appointment and said some would be here by 12 noon. At 12:21 pm, I called again to find out what was going on. No one answered and I left a message to be called back. At 12:45 pm, I called back and left a message to cancel my appointment. I do not appreciate taking the morning off from work only to have no one show up. And I don't think it is good customer service not to alert your clients when you are running late or don't plan on coming at all. I will be looking for help elsewhere. read more

Had this company go out for a client who had their garage door installed July 2019. It's October and the garage does not work. Called and they went out on a Thursday when we were also having the home cleaned. They left, never called to say what was wrong or what the solution was. I went by the next day to check. The cleaning lady told me they told her we needed a new motor. So they left without contact me or fixing it bc the garage still didn't work but they definitely left me an invoice?! Called and called and finally someone answered, kinda rudely. Told me he would figure it out and call back. Never did. Garage still broken and it is Monday now. Need to know whether to move on and cost my clients money with a different company or wait to honor the warranty with this unreliable one. Time is of the essence here... very unprofessional.
