This place is nestled in a quiet neighborhood, but it is a gem. I was looking for a specific Blu Ray DVD, but they didn't have in stock. The DVD was a rare 80's movie and I could not locate it anywhere. The guy/owner suggested I try another place, but he said if I can't find it; he would pre-order it and have in within a week. Sure enough I couldn't find it, but he had ordered the Movie for me and it was there the next week. I was not even charged for additional shipping. You explore and see things you either havent seen or forgot about, but now you have the opportunity to rent. They offer video transfer services too. Well, i guess it's at least appropriate that I get to write the first review, since I have rented from this place for 25 years (though it's shifted management a few times). I believe it is currently family owned and operated. I no longer live in Lafayette, but this is one of the few things I actually do miss. It is a huge part of my childhood memories. They have a REALLY great selection, including things you'd never except in Lafayette (i.e. Baise Moi, a pretty graphic and controversial French film that was banned in France). So much better than going to Blockbuster. Are you kidding me?!! I think maybe Take One has upped their prices a bit, but they're package deal/credits are definitely a good deal. And yeah, they gotta compete with Netflix now. Basically, this is one of those local businesses that you not only feel good supporting, but you genuinely enjoy supporting. read more

I "bumped" into this place minutes before closing, strictly by chance (had never heard of this place, but was ordering food from across the street and happened to have seen it). I looked at a couple of different places to see if a dvd I had could be fixed...at a reasonable price! Take One said that IF they could fix, the price would be $[it was really really fair, but I won't post here because prices may very depending on what you want them to do]. Not only was the price reasonable, but after seeing how important the dvd was to me, these guys worked past closing hour to fix the dvd for me. I am very very grateful! The last picture show right here. These guys still stock and rent out new movies on dvd. Good stuff too. Better than you can stream from Netflix or Hulu. Plus they're super nice guys. I've also had them transfer old family videos onto dvd for me. When I had trouble watching one of the dvds, Jason figured out that it was my balky laptop, not the dvd. Then he spent an hour testing my laptop and getting it to run faster - no charge! Old-fashioned neighborhood service and friendliness are as rare these days as finding dvd rentals. I haven't used the video store part, but I've used the photo studio in the back several times and can only recommend it! Great size, different backdrops, great lights and modifiers. There's just about anything there you'd need to take wonderful photos and you don't have to buy all the equipment yourself. After a miserable experience with a different company in Concord, I took a large project to Takeone to convert from 8mm film to DVD. Jason did a spectacular job on my project. I had a lot of film and he carefully edited it to fix the colors and lighting and remove blanks spots. The project came out beautifully. He did films from 1962 to 1978 of my family as we grew up. We had ZERO problems with Jason's work. The other place had so many problems including DVD's that skipped back to the beginning before getting to the end, DVDs missing parts of what was on the original film, films they forgot to transfer, etc. It took many repeated trips to their store to get things corrected so we were determined to never go back there and to find a better place. I AM SO GLAD WE WENT TO TAKE ONE!!! Jason did everything perfectly the first time. He definitely viewed every single frame of this large project and manually enhanced the images as he went along. No items were missed and DVDs are all perfect. He is excellent at what he does and great to work with. I would highly recommend Jason and TakeOne Video!!!! I was so fortunate to find Take One Video -- an old fashioned "mom and pop" business with knowledgeable and friendly staff and a great selection of movies. They transferred 14 old 1950's-60's movie film rolls to dvd for me. The owner took time to go through each roll with me to insure they transferred chronologically. The dvds turned out beautiful. They know what they are doing and their prices are more than reasonable. We are all fortunate to have this great resource. Nice people! read more

For DVD Rentals: We used to subscribe to Netflix streaming, but this store has such an excellent selection and service that, for us at least, it is a much better customer experience to just zip over to Take One and rent videos from them. I know it's "old school" to rent from a bricks & mortar store, but we always end up with a better movie and coming to the store is always a really pleasant, rewarding experience. I have only used Take One for VHSC/VHS and miniDVD transfer. I first used them on a half off coupon and was so pleased have gone back a couple of times. I am slowly finding all of my old format home movies and will continue to use Take One for disk transfer. They are fast, friendly and reasonably priced. My daughter uses them all the time for obscure or out of date DVDs. She loves them and appreciates their long rental period. I love supporting this small business. read more

I had used the studio for a photo shoot I was doing and was completely impressed.Not only did the lighting pros set up the "einstein" lighting for me and change it up through out my shoot they also gave me great tips I didn't know about my camera. I recently brought in some old home videos to have transferred to DVD. Not knowing what it would cost, I asked someone working there to explain their pricing and was told what the job would cost. When I came back to pick up the finished DVD, the price was 10 times what I was originally quoted! I was shocked and was not prepared to pay the higher amount. The worst part was that the owners said I must have misunderstood (which I didn't). When I asked if we could work something out (as this was a gift I waited over a month for them to transfer), they suggested I take my business elsewhere. Horrible attitude and very poor response to the situation. Maybe this isn't the norm for them, but I won't be back or refer any business to them after that experience, which is a shame because I always prefer supporting local businesses. read more

BUYER BEWARE - If you BUY dvd's at this store be sure to watch them right away to make sure they are of of good quality, especially if you plan on giving them as Christmas presents, as I was. In my case, what could have been a 5 star review of this company has been reduced to a one star, because of two unprofessional, unpleasant, rude situations. Between 2011 and 2017 I rented a total of no less than 125 dvd's from Take One Video. I know because I saved my receipts, and just finished counting them. I was not living here the entire 7 years, or I'd of rented more. Each rental cost $5.00, which means I spent a good $625 on dvd rentals. Within these 6 years approximately 5% of the time there would be a problem where the video stuck or skipped and I had to return it. That is like one out of 20 rentals. In other words, quality control was very good and I very rarely had a problem with the quality of the dvd's. The dogs are so nice and Jason is knowledgeable, and yes they have a large inventory to choose from. Presently the company is going out of the movie rental business, so I decided to make my very first dvd purchase ever. During two or three trips to their store I purchased 5 dvd's. The first two dvd's were, I think $15 each, and they were in good condition. As I recall the other three were $10 each. I knew their prices were much higher than online prices, but I felt badly for them, going out of business and all; and as such I wanted to to give them my last bit of business. Two out of my last three used dvd purchases appeared to be defective. One skipped and froze terribly throughout the entire movie. I exchanged it for another dvd, "The French Connnection" which turned out to have a sound synchronization issue, but just in one particular spot, suggestive of possibly a manufacturing issue at the factory. The owner Tony tried to blame me for the problems when I attempted to exchange both dvd's.. All the while I assured him I had rented from Red Box the night before, and experienced no problems with their dvd's or my player. In fact for two years I have also rented from Red Box, without problems. I never asked Tony for a refund, just the opportunity on two different occasions, to exchange the two seemingly defective used dvd's. When I attempted to exchange the first movie I was berated and accused of always complaining. Tony went on and on about how I am the only person who has problems with their movies. It was so unpleasant. When I tried to exchange "The French Connection" Tony looked over at Jason and next thing Tony again became hostile, confronting me once again. Tony actually had the nerve to ask me why I keep coming there if I have so many problems with their dvd's. Then he angrily shoved a five dollar bill at me. It was only after I spoke up about having spent $10, that he gave me five more. First of all WHAT IS THIS MAN TALKING ABOUT? I paid top dollar for their used dvd's and I have been a satisfied customer for 6 years and here I am being bullied for trying to give them more of my money! I doubt I'd of been treated this way, if I was a man! Ladies please watch the movies once after you have made your purchase because you may not be allowed to exchange them if they are defective. read more
