I'm a barber loyalist, and my skilled and friendly barber, Pearl, has been cutting my hair for over two years and I'm excited she's landed at such a great shop. I have quite short, very fine hair, and a weird cowlick in the back (don't we all lol). I hate having to find a new stylist. When we moved to Portland, I tried a fancy salon. The first cut was acceptable. The second cut was a disaster. My husband recommended I try his barber out. Kenzy had actually been recommended to us by my husband's barber in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I figured it couldn't hurt to try. I now see Kenzy regularly and am very happy with my cuts. She listens to my ideas and gently steers me in the direction I actually need to go with my specific hair type, which I appreciate. The cuts are great, the straight edge razor finish at the end is delightful, and I always leave satisfied. As an epidemiologist, I've also been extremely impressed with how Kenzy has run her barbershop during the pandemic. The shop is always clean, inviting, friendly, and run well. I don't need to contact Kenzy very often but she has always been quick to respond, which I appreciate. Also, there is something really relaxing about getting your hair cut while Bob Ross is painting on the tv, even if there is rock music playing. 1. I paid $43 for an awkward cut by Blake. We agreed 1/4" off all over, same style. 2. Blake ended up cutting off more than 1/4" of my hair without asking me if it's alright to take off more during the service. 3. Five minutes of it was spent soaking my hair with a spray bottle and him talking to the barber nearby. Smothering his wet hands against my face. 8 minutes spent cutting my hair with shears. Not even 20 minutes of a service cut. 4. and no, I did not receive a neck shave or hot towel service. Pretty much walked in, paid a barber $43 to chop my locks and sweep it back up into the trash. 5. Blake swept and removed the hair off the ground more than my head, neck, clothes, and face. 6. I found out this place is cash only after handing over my debit card at the end while literally trying to get the heck out of there. "We only accept Venmo or cash app." They did not have an ATM and even if they do now, it's a $3+ fee. 7. The barber who worked next window over spend a good amount of time detailing and cleaning their customers hair. Blake just spent his sweeping and detailing the floor. All the more to consider going elsewhere. 8. It would have been nice to know upon booking my appointment what payment methods they accept*. 9. By the time i got home and rinsed my hair I noticed it was completely uneven. This was the worst experience for me considering it was my first time going off of the reviews others left of this place. 10. Whoever owns this place set up the wrong expectations for a good cut service. It's really a shame I wasted $43 for an extremely low tier service by Blake. Business is a scam. Update: I went to a local small salon for $20.00 they fixed my hair and took their time to ensure it was to my liking. Final result: I do not recommend the barber Blake nor this barberslop. read more

I don't have to many times in my life when I have anxiety, but for the first two years of living here my biggest form of anxiety came from thinking where I was gonna get my hair cut lol. One day I walked into a shop called Rooks and met Kenzie, and she not only listened and gave me exactly what I was looking for, but her level of professionalism in a shop that was down right chaotic; was stunning. Once Kenzie told me she would be stepping away to start her own shop, I didn't even think twice to tell her I would be a loyal customer at her shop. I can't even explain how much I love not worrying about where Im going to get my haircut. Haven't gone anywhere since and wouldn't go anywhere else. Super friendly and great atmosphere. Sadly that's the best part of my experience. I had a hair cut and face shave w/straitblade and cleaned up my goatee. Not trying to be rude but it's the worst shave I've ever had! Lots of missed hairs on my cheeks and around my goatee. Worst part is the bottom edge under my chin is WAYYYY crooked. I did better m'y very first time deciding to rock a goatee having zero experience managing facial hair. Now I have to raise the line up to make it even. Worse than when I do it and no where close to the crisp shave you would expect. Side fade is great too is sloppy. Awkward moment mid way through my service another worker started taking pictures for social media. I know I could say no but I assumed by what I was being told it was going to turn out great. I wasted a LOT of money on a bad service. I'm going to assume it's just my specific barber because the reviews here are great and the pictures look awesome on their site. Red flag should have been when I asked for a pattern in my skin fade and he said he doesn't do those because they don't turn out good. Clearly the showcase photos on the site are from other stylists. First, about my barber: I've been going to Fay for my cuts for years now and there hasn't been one time I've walked out with a cut that I didn't feel stoked about. She is the most consistent barber i've had and I will be her client for as long as I can. She is also the kindest human and the easiest to talk with and we've become friends over the years. I cannot recommend her enough. Secondly, about the shop: My first time walking into Take Pride I felt immediately comfortable because of the warm immediate welcome. I was greeted and offered a drink and the overall vibe was chill and welcoming. I feel at home there and give the overall look and feel of the spot a 10/10. I have been going to Fay for quite approaching almost three years and let me tell you they are amazing! Ever since the first time with them getting my haircut done I always get amazing compliments on the fade cut I get. They are an artist when it comes to hair!
