Each hair stylist I've been with has been amazing and I will continue coming back. Most recently got my hair done by Ashley who was awesome. Last time I got a haircut it was my birthday in July at Y Chrome with Kyle. So I was due. Kyle took great care of me in July so when I booked the service online I made my appointment with him again. Y Chrone is temporarily closed but sister company Hair M has Kyle working there. The booking tool works good. Except for A couple of spots: one where the next button was black with black font. I clicked on it assuming that was the case. It was. I was confirmed. Super easy! Parking lot has off street free parking. Loved that! Kyle was a total pro. He helped me talk about what I was looking for and why. Easy to talk with. We had some surfing experiences in common. That's always fun to meet a fellow surfer. WHOA! I just read the business owner's response. I am knocking this down on stars for the companies inability to take responsibility on the hair cut. I also reached out to the owner regarding this asking for a refund. We were going to just let it go, but at this point, they seem to like to play the blame game. I actually have photos of the hair after we let it grow out for 2 weeks so I can fixed the botched job. FYI - I'm also a licensed cosmetologist in California, so I actually have credentials and know what I am talking about. Some facts: 1. The girl did a sloppy job. That's what it really comes down to. Even around the ears they weren't cut evenly. The back of the hair had one side looking more angled and other rounding to the bottom. The front was just an absolute mess. For the front of the hair, the sides also didn't match. Photos are when we combed it out after I had to fix it. I saw how bad the cut was. SEE PHOTOS. 2. The stylist DID NOT mention anything about the back having a cowlick and having to take it up higher. This is definitely the FIRST time we've ever heard of this from ANYONE that we've been to AND also considering I've cut his hair before in the past. If there's a cowlick and you did happen to have to take it up higher, would anyone in their right mind cut it uneven that high up? What actually happened was that the stylist f-ed up and she didn't have a steady hand. She cut the hair too high up. How do I know? Because 2 weeks later on 10/13 I finally cleaned up his hair letting it sit and grow out. When you comb the back of the hair down you can see that the hair covers the area where she cut too high up in the middle and now the salon is claiming is a 'cowlick' There was ABSOLUTELY no reason for the stylist to have cut the middle higher than the others. That's just absurd and doesn't make sense at all. 3. The 'poor' hair cut that they are talking about actually isn't even POOR at all. I had cut his hair 3-4 weeks ago quickly and we had been traveling and wanted to get it freshened up. There was MORE than enough hair to cut a new cut IF the hair was previously 'poorly' cut. read more

OK. I just had to come back. It was as if i was compelled to do it. It's not because I need to be surrounded by women who would pamper me for an hour. No, trust me on that. But, I'd been here a couple times before and loved their services. It's spendy but if you can do it it's worth it. 5 stars for this one. Today, I was in the mood for a straight razor shave, something I'd never done before but have been told by many that I need to. So, I put this one on the bucket list and now, when I go I can do so with one less regret. I walked in the front door and was immediately greeted with something like, what would you like for a libation. You know you're in for a treat when the first thing they want to do is get you all liquored up. Somehow, that would add to the whole experience. It did. During my stay I sipped endlessly on my generous portion of white wine. I was greeted by Natalia, a very pleasant Russian gal who was ready to make me feel like a king. Well, king for a day, anyway. Or maybe king for an hour. I gave her a run for the money though because I walked in there with a full beard. She had to mow that sucker before she could do anything. Afterwards, there was an alcohol swab and a conditioning. The aromas were awesome. Next came the hot towels and once my face was all wrapped up, I couldn't see a bloody thing. This is where your trust issues might be thrust to the surface as you lay there helpless and vulnerable. Alas, all fears were allayed when she asked me if I would like for her to massage my hands. Well, I ask you. Who would say no to that? It wasn't just the hands. It included everything from the elbow down. Once all that was done she proceeded to lather me up. I'm not sure what it was but it wasn't what you might think. She did the shave in sections and only applied what she needed when she needed it. Since I couldn't see anything I'm assuming it was some kind of shaving oil. When finished my beard was smooth as silk. Then the other nice little surprise was a facial massage to bring everything to a very nice close. Again, the aromas were awesome. So, all you Yelper guys out there who might have been at the Elite event at HairM, you need to do this... seriously. When people say a straight razor shave is something you need to do before you die, trust me, you need to do it. read more

Having been to many haircut salons where the main clientele are women, I always feel a bit out of place; however, at Hair M they treatment you get truly lives up to their tagline "Where everyman is a king." You walk in and are greeted promptly by a friendly host who get you checked in and then offers you a complementary drink (go with the Widmer Drifter Pale Ale). The waiting area is comfortable and is full of men's magazines. I have been to Hair M nearly 6 times now and every time I leave more than satisfied with my haircut. Stylists are friendly and extremely professional. The one I had today was very meticulous with the cut using a straight edge instead of scissors on the top. Each cutting station has its own TV with cable service for you to select. I typically get the Kings Cut which includes a cut/style and a head massage for about $45 with tip. Spendy, yes, but considering you get such a great experience along with a great hair cut, I think it is definitely worth the extra money. read more

After growing my hair for 5 years. Intentionally because I knew there is no one in Oregon with a slight skill of properly cutting hair. I took the plunge and went to this disaster of a place. My hair was ruined, cut like a $5 corner barber and I look like a complete idiot. 75$ for my head to look like I walked out of Great Clips. I think Great Clips would have done a decent job. If you have class and really care about how you look stay away from this whole brand and chain. I have been coming here for almost a year now and I have nothing bad to say. When I walk in, I get offered a free beer. The wait time for my stylist (Samantha) is never more than 10 minutes. I am always listened to (I HATE when stylists do their own thing regardless of what I asked for) and often feel much better as I walk out, than I did when I walked in. Just overheard an exchange between a ridiculous customer and the front desk. The customer had purchased a Groupon appointment for another location and was confused about where to go. He was very rude to the front desk staff despite them going above and beyond trying to accommodate the mistake. His behavior was nothing short of inappropriate and frankly ridiculous. First, the customer service here is always on point: front desk staff are quick to greet you upon arrival and offer you a drink before your appointment begins. After testing out several stylists to match my hairstyle needs and personality, I found Ashley to be the perfect fit. She's sweet, kind on the eyes, and attentive to whatever style I was going for or failed romance took place in my life. I had a year membership and the king's cut package, which includes a wash and scalp massage. The best part was the wash and scalp massage (5 mins of heaven!). If you live in Portland and want full men's salon experience, this is your spot. I'd say it's the best one I've experienced living in Portland, NY, and LA. After years (3+) of unabashed allegiance to HairM, it's finally time for me to move on. I have to specify that it's not at all because of the quality of the haircut itself. Every time I go there, I have absolutely no concerns about getting a consistent cut. The stylist I work with (Adriana) is great with what she does and is always pleasant to work with. If she were to move to a different salon, I would gladly follow her. So HairM gets two stars for the quality of the service I'm actually looking to receive: a hair cut. And a good, consistent one at that. If HairM billed themselves as just a place to get your haircut (ala Bishop's), you can bet they'd get a better review. HairM bills itself as a full service salon experience for men. That means, to me, that all aspects of the service need to be as great as the haircut and HairM's not there. While my stylist is great, the front desk staff is abysmal. Making an appointment can be a pain, they frequently have trouble performing basic tasks like charging my card or checking me in. Not a few times, I've gotten attitude when asking about services or products. I've had to wait more than 10 minutes after my appointment time, but I've been told I'll need to reschedule if I'm more than 5 minutes late. The other problem is the price. The haircut is great, but it's not worth $30 and I can put hot towels on my own face for $10 extra. HairM has recently opened YChrom, their Barbershop version, to compete with Bishop's. Even if the price is the same, the attitude isn't worth it. I'll go somewhere else instead of having to fight parking, traffic, and surly front desk staff. With this breakup, it *is* you. They have two locations, one downtown next to Fernando's Hideaway and one in Beaverton in the Cedar Hills Shopping Center. I've only been to the downtown location. I was a loyal customer for a couple years until I started dating my current girlfriend who graciously provides this service now. I would usually go for the King's Cut, which is $35. For this price, you get: * Complimentary beverage, including beer or wine. It is way better than it even sounds to be drinking a brewdogg while getting your mane done * Haircut (obvsly) * Shampoo * Scalp massage with hot towel (5 minutes) They also offer other services, like various massages and manicure/pedicure. While you're waiting or being worked on, there are televisions with current sporting events all around so if you need to keep up on a game, it's so easy. My hairdresser was really cool and knew what she was doing. She gave me a couple hair tips on my initial visit that had my hair looking 10 times better, and I've been sold on Hair M ever since. They validate for Smart Park as well. I'm racking my brains trying to think of a negative for this place. It's more expensive than, say, Supercuts, but your hair is one of the places that I don't think one should skimp on. It has such an overall impact on your appearance. Now that I think back, the great service started when I initiated the call. The person that answered was friendly, and very resourceful. She quickly secured an appointment, and exited the call in an upbeat fashion. That tone continued when I arrived, as I was greeted with a smile, and offered a complimentary glass of red wine (a lady after my heart, for sure). Carly prompted greeted me, determined precisely what I desired, and went to work. She was extremely detailed, engaging and courteous. The first one I tried, eh... not so much, then I found one who did a better job and I've been seeing her ever since at the Beav location.
