The food was delicious! Our service was excellent. Our chef was very entertaining and excellent at his craft. It's been awhile since I've been to a Hibachi, and we had a great time! It was very relaxing. We went on a Wednesday so it wasn't too busy, but we had great service from our hostess, to our waiter, to our chef. The Miso soup and the ginger salad also both tasted very good, and I'm not a big fan of ginger. I wish I had more of the soup. It was a very delightful evening. I'd go back in a heartbeat. read more

Our daughter had a great birthday celebration here! The options and pricing were spot on, and it was a typical hibachi dining experience. The restaurant seemed pretty busy, but the servers were hustling and the chef put on a great show. Our favorite part was the unique fire in his hat while he cooked. My only complaint might be that the volume could lower just a little bit - with the constant clapping, cheering and banging of spatulas, it was very hard for us to carry on a conversation, but we knew what we were getting into when we decided on hibachi. I ordered fried rice chicken and broccoli to go, to my surprise I found two pieces of shrimp in my order. My wife and I just figured it was a mistake, " no big deal", until about 2am when I woke up with massive stomach pain, shortly after I found myself vomiting violently. My wife and I were both having major stomach pains. My wife and I had both given a piece of chicken to our dog and she was sick too. Being transparent to say we arrived on Valentines Day with no reservation. We waited in the waiting area for 35 minutes and sat the table waiting for the cook for an hour and a half. Upon cooks arrival, the stove was already dirty from the previous chef. We received our drinks but the waiters never checked back until the chef came to the hibachi grill. So all was watered down, finished drinking, or cold teas. The chef wiped his nose drip with his hand and did not wash his hands now contaminating each thing he touched. Guests left the table upon seeing that. Our guest had a shellfish allergy which was not asked prior to starting service and he touched the shrimp and then the veggies with the same equipment. He was so distracted on the prior guest complaining to management that he overcooked the eggs and then overcooked the rice that it was crispy and burnt. The vegetables that go into fried rice was minimal. Mind you we are the last group so the chef did not have to rush on service since again we are the last table. After receiving our food we asked guests what they thought of the quality and taste and texture of food and it was noted that it barely was seasoned, burnt or overcooked, and not eating as left over and let alone will return to this restaurant. Management did not come to any table to check on the guests and did not resolve the issue at hand. Waiter spoke to customers and chef with lack of respect. Ambiance was nice and Asian style. Alcoholic drinks were very weak and was watered down. Was even offered an extra drink for the inconvenience and it didn't taste like it had any alcohol. Me and my family will never be coming back, not even on a free offer or meals. Management needs to fix the service, cleanliness and quality of product, ASAP or this business will close. read more

Excellent place. The server AJ was very friendly and helpful. The chef Omar was amazing. He made it fun for all of us. We came to celebrate two birthdays and they didn't disappoint. They even give you a discount if you're bring a party of six for your birthday, you get your meal for free. We tried the sushi and we also had some of the hibachi combination meals, Everything was excellent. All the ingredients were high-quality and perfectly seasoned. The decor is also very unique. Although it had been a long time since our last visit to Takeya, I will say that the food and the flavors are just as good as I remembered. Unfortunately, the premise did not bring back the memories of what once was a fantastic location. I don't know if anything has been done to brighten the place up, but it was filthy. Seems like much of the original staff is gone as well as quite a bit of the original clientele. Outside of that, the portions were good, service was timely and as I mentioned before the flavors were really good. We were in the mood for something different, Hibachi. We haven't had it in a few years ago it sounded like a good idea. We showed up early because this place is always full. We got in quick and joined 6 other people at the table/grill. The waiter took our orderand the fun began. The chef came out and started the show. We took one of our neighbors, and she said that she has never been to this kind of restaurant. So she has no clue what was coming up. The chef was funny as expected and he did a great job with the food and taste. We ordered the filet and the steak and chicken. We got a soup, salad and appiteezer. The salad with ginger is one of my fav 5 salad. The soup was a broth and pretty good. The teaser was a few shrimp. Nice. We finally started on the main course. The first impression was that the meat was done as requested, flavorful, and very tender. Really good cuts of meat. The food kept piling on. More Rice, veggies, and meat than I usually eat. The food was way better than expected. The chef was great and entertaining. The waiter was very attentive and kept the drinks coming. The place was a bit slow with not a ton of people there. That's the first time I've seen that here. I blame the coming holiday. We also showed up early. Even the staff was surprised. The restaurant has a great ambiance. Great for friends, family or just a night out. If you couldn't tell, we had a great time and a good meal. Our friend could not believe that she had missed out on this kind of dinner experience, this long. She thought it was great. The Doggie bag will make a nice lunch for me. Had a great experience for a large bday party celebration! Takeya accomodated our large party and we faced each other at both Tepanyaki tables. Absolutely horrendous. Complete disparity in portions, specifically of items that come from the kitchen. Hibachi 'chef' did not know how to do one hibachi trick- pretty sure he was the dishwasher not a chef. Food was awful there is no way this man was a regular hibachi chef there. Vegetables full of Greece cooked too long, so nasty. Rice hard as a rock. Chicken cooked to the point of tasting like a shoe. Entire family was sick from the meal, did not eat it- and on top of it all they tried to charge an additional 5$ for two kids under 7 to share a meal that neither of them wound up eating due to it being cooked to death. Awful.. oh and did I mention this was after waiting 2 hours to eat. Horrible does not begin to explain it. At over 30$ a plate they should be ashamed. I will be making a call to my bank. read more

There are three main things I look for when it comes to a great restaurant: the parking situation, the atmosphere and friendliness of the staff, and if they offer gluten-friendly options for people like me. Well, I must say, Takeya checks all three boxes on my list. This restaurant is great! From the ample parking spaces and friendly wait staff to the delicious and I mean really great Gluten-Free soy sauce used to make my meal. Every time I come in, I never feel awkward for asking for my food to be made Gluten-Free. In this particular instance, making my meal "Gluten-Free" meant preparing my food in the back of the kitchen, using a clean station, free of any gluten or flour. I never get sick after eating here which is great! I highly recommend coming to Takeya for a delicious meal, served by friendly chefs, and waitstaff. Here we found Over-priced meals that have plus and minus factors. Plus side- sauces are tasty, Seafood and vegetables are cooked well. Minus- the sushi rice is wanting flavor, therefore sushi lacks dimension. Yet wait staff are kind and attentive, and that always makes a difference. It's ridiculous to be charged extra for Miso soup on an entree that includes soup and salad; charges for the watery green tea too doesn't speak of hospitality . However, as it was our first Japanese dinner since moving to Ormond Beach, we are glad the fish was fresh. read more

0 stars for this "Japanese steakhouse". Firstly I am insulted as a customer. I order ginger/orange oriental noodles with chicken, I was served with Spaghetti pasta, not even freshly made pasta. The pasta was from a box. I do need to give credit where credit is due, The chicken was ultra tender and moist. It was in a broth with cooked vegetables which had good flavor. So now for the "spring rolls", which were cheap salads rolled into iceberg lettuce with steamed cold white rice inside, tomato and cucumber. $10.00 for rolled iceberg salad an attempt to have what looks like gastronomic cuisine. In conclusion, this restaurant insults its customers with out of a box spaghetti and iceberg salad rolls as an Asian restaurant! read more

Unfortunately I do not have any positives on this resturant. Over priced and bad food. I picked a noodle with peanut sauce salad, it was so very- very blan, and pasty, I also ordered a Spider roll which was extremely thin, small and lacking flavor as well. I think the crab escaped. My son asked for only broccoli and onions with his dish that offered mixed vegetables. Unaware that This was a $10.00 up charge. (6 florets to be exact) 4 entrees & two appetizers , tea, coke & two beers ....$209.00 wait, it gets better, surprisingly not one of us finished our meals and still my husband and son got food poisoning and our son in law & I had the worst heart burn. This was at 6:00, it is now 12:45 things are starting to calm down for all of us. Needless to say, we will not be back and probably wouldn't have regardless of the free lingering effects. The food was poor quality for the price charged does not fit the food. $10.00 ??? Really! There is a sign at the entrance that says social distancing is in place. We were seated first, then they seated a group of people next to me. We were elbow to elbow and knee to knee. I asked the acting manager/ bartender woman and she said social distancing only applies to the lobby, not the tables, that they have been at 100% capacity for months and they could have seated several more people at our table. She was very rude. I have been going to takeya since they were on nova road. I won't be back because of how this manager commented on my concerns. read more

There's no excuse for not following CDC's CORONAVIRUS recommendation when the pandemic is at record high. This place is all about squeezing as many people in as possible. Definitely no social distance or masking observed. Numerous staff members including owner/manager behind the bar were not wearing a mask. Our group of six were seated at the table designed for 12. There were two others seated at the same table with two seats separating on both ends. We were ok with this arrangement until the hostess said there were gonna filled the empty seats with other patrons even though there many other tables available. We asked for the manager with no avail so we got up and left. Do yourself a favorite, stay away from this place to be on the safe side. read more

We went to Takeya For my daughters birthday. It was ok. The place needs to be painted and fixed up a little. I was a little taken back by what the floor looked like. My husband and daughter ordered a California roll, and they enjoyed it. We got our soup, and it was ok. Salad was ok too. I did not see noodles on the hibachi menu to get instead of rice. I asked and the server and he discouraged me , said they had noodles, but they were different, so we got the rice. I was kind of disappointed, because I told my mom she would love the hibachi with noodles! Oh boy! Our meals were good, we got shrimp, chicken and filet. The chef was good. This is a great place for a quick sushi. I got there and I had trouble parking so packed it was. Beer is cheap - only $4, only bottles. Sushi is tasty and prices are "normal" to my experience. I missed the wow factor, but it is good. read more

The food was delicious, I had steak hibachi. The chef was somewhat entertaining but were the last table of the evening. I ordered a Mai Tai, the first drink was good. I ordered a second and the drink just didn't taste right too much grenadine, not enough alcohol. I told the waiter who went back to bar with drink. The General Manager/bartender stated he made the drink the exact same way and would not fix it or give me another. I then asked the waiter to take the drink off the bill and again the GM/bartender refused, the waiter was very apologetic. We spent a lot of money on dinner and to be that aggregate about how he made a drink and not accommodate customer is horrible customer service.
