Tako was recommended by a few friends for sushi and ambiance, so I decided to take the fam and a friend there for dinner. I had no trouble finding parking in the strip mall lot. The inside is nicely laid out and easy on the eyes. Booths, tables in the middle, sushi bar towards the back and private tatami rooms along the one outer wall. I had called ahead and reserved one of their tatami rooms. It was our first time in a room like that and we really enjoyed it! (NOTE: you have to remove your shoes before entering the tatami room so make sure you wear socks if that bothers you!) The service was friendly and timely. Our waitress took the time to go over their menu which had several pages of sushi options alone. They don't have a kids menu, but they were both able to find something they liked. My oldest had the Chicken Teriyaki that came on a skillet with a bed of steamed veggies and white rice on the side. He devoured it and asked for more rice. He allowed me to have a couple of bites of his chicken. The Teriyaki flavors were popping! Little guy shared a steak and shrimp hibachi with my wife. She asked for medium and it came out well. The flavors of the steak and shrimp were awesome, but the corn rice and veggies had a little bit of an off flavor and texture. Both meals came with soup - one miso which tasted just fine, the other a clear soup that had a delicious full onion flavored broth. I had the Volcano roll - $17 - eight - Shrimp tempura, cucumber w special sweet tuna salad outside and the Phoenix Roll - $18 - eight -mixed combo fish & avocado roll, top with salmon yellowtail & special sauce on top. The Volcano roll wasn't super tight, but I enjoyed the crunchy shrimp tempura and sweet sauce. Good fresh ingredients and flavors in both, Phoenix roll had a welcoming kick in the special sauce. Our friend had a Philly Roll, Shrimp Tempura Roll and a veggie roll ($7-$8 avg.) which she said were all good. We had a great time in the room and will certainly repeat. I'm not a well traveled sushi eater, but the menu at Tako was much more extensive (more fish varieties and combinations) than my usual Asian fusion spots) at a similar price so I'll be returning to try more options. The one thing I would recommend to their owners is a bathroom spruce up or thorough cleaning. The walls looked like an inexperienced painter took care of them and there were dirt marks all over the door. Having said that, it's great to have a fun dining option close to home! Been recommended to come here for sushi and finally decided to get food here. We ordered takeout. We really loved the salmon here. It was delicious and fresh. Literally melts in your mouth. The spicy crab sushi rolls were also really good. Some places tend to mess that up for some reason. And also their ACE roll was also really good. There's other rolls that I do want to try and I'll definitely come back for more salmon sashimi. Ordered takeout and it was ready within 10-15 mins. Restaurant looks very cozy, clean and nicely decorated. I would dine in there if I had the time. I think here and shogun go neck and neck honestly. There's things I like about Tako and I can say the same for shogun. Hard to compare the both but I enjoy both sushi spots. read more

I've been getting sushi from Tako for more than 12 years at this point. It was the first place that I ever tried sushi at, I had my 16th birthday dinner there, and I always try to stop by whenever I'm back in the area. They make my absolute favorite sushi roll in the world - the Birds Nest roll. It is truly a unique roll that I've never seen done anywhere else. Trust me, I've looked! The private rooms are a really fun experience and the service is always so friendly. My only complaint is that it's one of the pricier options for sushi in the area, but I think it's worth it. read more

As we roam around to various sushi spots, we landed at Tako. A little off the beaten path in a strip mall, we found a cozy restaurant that offered several private rooms. There is a huge selection of fancy rolls. I tried the angel which combined tempura shrimp and fried banana. Not the greatest combination. They Aldo had the basic rolls along with lots of non sushi dishes. Service was quick and they regularly checked on us without being obnoxious. Prices were on par with other spots. read more

Round 2! Wow just when you think it can't get any better. We started with the negimaki again and when I was told tonight's special was Toro and Kumamoto oysters, without hesitation I ordered both. I don't eat Sushi often, but when I do it's Tako. The best in Bucks/N.E. Philadelphia in my opinion!

This is the real-deal sushi in a super nondescript, suburban location. Of course, this is graded on a curve. I'm not expecting Manhattan or Los Angeles omakase experiences in Bensalem, PA; however, what you get is fresh fish, pleasant service, surprisingly great rice, and a warm inviting ambiance throughout. I was particularly struck by the fresh toro that I had served sashimi and nigiri style. It was excellent quality, tasty, juicy, with such a rich profile. I enjoyed the plating of my sushi order, and the rice, again, was well cooked. Sticky, slightly seasoned, and served at the proper room temperature. I did not have an opportunity to try their rolls or nori, except for a touch on the ikura, but from what I gleaned is that it was of good quality and had an appropriate snap (i.e., not soggy). The fish eggs were well formed and not those collapsing, desiccated versions that you sometimes find outside sushi centers when they are past their prime. The sunmono salad is always a bright way to start, and I enjoyed it especially the fresh sashimi bits, although I was not crazy about the spiciness they added to it which seemed to take away from the purity. They were out of the hamachi kama when I came too, which was partly a disappointment, however, I respect that they only serve what is fresh and in season/available, and it gives me another reason to return, as if I needed any more. ;) read more

I would go back here over and over. We only had sushi rolls, sashimi, miso soup and salad. The miso soup was richly flavored. Sashimi was fresh, well cut and delicious. No Liquor License; too expensive in PA. BYOB is common around here in small restaurants. Recommended by my hotel. Surprisingly good for strip mall sashimi so far from the ocean. The sashimi deluxe dinner comes with soup, salad and rice. Fish was very fresh and flavorful, served with soup, ginger dressing salad and rice. Service was fast and accurate, if not overly warm and friendly. Tempura ice cream dessert was good, but I'd try the tempura banana next time. I'll be back, with a bottle of Ozeki dry.
