Looking for an awesome place to romance the bottle? Tala Wine. Super late on this review but Tala Wine is an under the radar gem in The Excelsior worth trekking to. Opening in June 2023, Tala Wine is a boutique wine bar, wine shop, and tea lounge. Free WiFi so perfect place to bring your laptop and wine down for the day with a glass or two, or three. W I N E S H O P Curated wine selection with bottles you will NOT find in big box stores. Tell them your budget and taste preferences...and they got you! On my most recent visit, I was able to get a great bottle of wine for a colleague. They also have a wine club and members get 10% off everything and free corkage for any bottles consumed in-store. W I N E B A R Array of wine, craft beer, saké, tea (red blossom tea company), coffee, and juices. Wine flights: 4 two-ounce tastings for $20. For the drunchies: BYO charcuterie or snack plate, artichoke dip, baked brie, and tinned seafood. P O P U P S Keep an eye on their IG for food pop-ups! D R I N K S I can't drink wine so yay for offering saké! I've tried several of their sakés and my fav is the "Cuveé Mosaic", Matsunotsukasa Junmai Nama ($14/glass), a unique savory saké. S E R V I C E Tala and her staff are welcoming, warm, and very knowledgeable. A M B I A N C E Charming Victorian lounge vibes with crystal chandeliers and gold textured ceiling. Great 90s R&B playlist (heyyy SWV, 112, Jade, etc.). P A R K I N G Unfortunately, parking sucks but that's the city for you. More reason to don't drink and drive, and take an Uber/Lyft/Waymo. Looking for a full meal afterwards? My favs within a 1 block radius: - Dim Sum King (not related to the one in Daly City) - Cafe Guatemalteco (Guatemalan) - Mexico Tipico - The Korner Store (Korean bar food) - Chef Hunan (Cantonese) Overall, don't sleep on Tala Wine. It's the perfect place to start/end date night or GNO, and/or if you're looking for a special bottle of wine!

    Afternoon tea (and wine)

Went to Tala Wine for the Mother's Day Tea. The location is super cute, and the offerings were delightful. I did have a glass of wine and it was delightful, so I can confirm they provide quality wine. I would for sure go back for future events.

Our latest treasure from Tala - a sparkling red from Slovenia from one of their tastings

Beautiful wine bar in the Excelsior with a thoughtfully curated selection and frequent pop up events. Tala herself is great - humorous, hardworking, and community-driven. We would recommend this spot to anyone!

This wine bar is hidden from plain view and tucked away in the Excelsior/Outer Mission. Some friends and I discovered this little gem while looking for a place to have a nightcap. Sippin' Wine Bar is located on the second floor of the Bottoms Up Bar, but the vibe is totally different. Not sure if the two bars are actually affiliated, but they are like night and day. The stairs leading up to the bar are lit up and the interior of the bar is just absolutely gorgeous! It's spacious and low lit with an extremely sexy ambience. The decor is just out of this world! They have the cutest tables and sofas. The lamps and artwork are very unique but visually appealing, and the tables are set with candles that create a very sensual vibe. There's a small but adorable little patio where you can relax and get some air. The interior designer deserves a pat on the back AND a few glasses of wine (wink wink). Speaking of wine, they have tons and tons of it! Their selection is extensive and they make it really obvious with all of their lovely wine bottles that are on display. I really enjoyed their Angeline Pinot Noir as well as the Kungfu Girl Riesling. They serve food here as well. We had just come from dinner, but a few of us who shall remain nameless (cough cough) were still hangry and ordered garlic noodles, garlic fries, and tater tots. Yep, somebody's breath was stankin' but it wasn't mine! Although I didn't try any of the food, It smelled wonderful. There was no food left behind, so I'm assuming that it was delicious! The owner Shirley was fantastic! She happily hosted our group and let us sample several different wines from her collection. She mingled with us as well and talked about the business. The bar is still relatively new and opened a little over 2 years ago, so she is still trying to generate more business. I'm hoping that more people will frequent this place because I really enjoyed it and would love to see it stick around. So glad we stumbled upon this spot, and I'm looking forward to many more future visits.

We went on a Friday night, where they had a very loud band playing in the middle of the restaurant. It seemed the only people enjoying the music were the band members themselves. I mean that with no disrespect, there were the people located next to the band that were covering their ears, outwardly! There were people sitting outside, and as they came inside to leave, I jokingly said they must be from up north, as the outside temperature was 55 degrees with a light drizzle. They stated the only reason they ate outside was because they couldn't hear anything due to the band. It's an extremely loud band and a closed space so the music really echo. Unfortunately there is minimal weight staff. I believe that they spent the money on more servers rather than a band, it would be the best business move. Our server came to get our drink and food order, and then didn't come back until it was time to drop off the check. We had a runner come deliver our food, and they forgot the side salad. But by the time our waitress came, we were ready to leave, so we just asked them to take it off the bill. My mom's patty melt was OK, the meat was very thin compared to the slice of bread. My Long Island with also not great. It tasted like a well drink. I would've given 5 stars if the waitress was able to check in on us after we got our food, if the patty melt had better proportions, and my cocktail tasted a little more flavorful.,

We had just had a lovely time at another participating business (Beehive) and planned on Arcana being our final stop. Thankfully I was able to use the restroom without a fee, with my gear held up outside by the security team. While waiting in the restroom line, I told a staff member about all this, and the worker seemingly went up to the front to find out what's going on. The line took a few minutes, my friends also bumped into me, and I told them I'd likely wait for them outside the business post-restroom while they finished their wine. Where they lost me was the wine pricing. The by-the-glass prices are pretty steep, with most around $16-$20 and Champagne at $25. I'm completely fine paying more at a wine bar for the atmosphere, service, and experience, but knowing what some of these bottles actually retail for, the markup felt excessive for what was being poured. They do offer a full food menu and some of it sounds interesting, but I wasn't impressed enough with the wine experience or value to want to stay and try the food, so I can't speak to that. I'm glad I finally checked Frenchie out after seeing it online so much. It's a cute space and I can see the appeal, but for me the value just isn't there at these prices
