Stopped by here on a weekend to check out the spot, as it has been somewhere that I've seen in my local area for a while, but never got a chance to try. Walked in and found the place very nice. You have your bar in front and a combination of chairs and tables throughout the room, with some very nice artwork, atmosphere, and the bathroom tiles were delightful, felt very rustic and modern. There was only 1 worker that day as it was an early weekend, but the service was fast, she was attentive to the patrons that was there and also helped us with only ordering red as we both did not have an interest in drinking white wine. The Charcuterie board options were good, and we got the meat, cheese, and olives (sorry, I forgot which exact ones). It was a great pairing to go with the wine, and I'll definitely be back to try more of their appetizers. Visited on a Tuesday evening around 6pm, there were several other guests but plenty of open space on my visit. Drinks: Flight of the day which included four 2oz pours of different wine varieties for $20. In the flight was a cava, white, rose and chilled red so great variety of flavors and regions highlighted. Service was excellent, so friendly and warm, staff is knowledgeable about the wine and offered great insight into the pours being served and had great recommendations as well if you were exploring other options. Overall such a gem in the Excelsior, love having a local wine bar that feels approachable and relaxing with no big crowd or wait. Worth an excursion to visit. Compared to other wine bars felt pretty affordable too. read more

On my most recent visit, I was able to get a great bottle of wine for a colleague. They also have a wine club and members get 10% off everything and free corkage for any bottles consumed in-store. I really like this place! I live all the way across town in the Marina District but two things draw me to the neighborhood - the 25% senior discount on Tuesdays at the Goodwill (two doors down) and one of my best friends recently moved to the Excelsior and lives a few blocks away. I first went to Talas maybe a year ago with my friend, had a great time, my friend has a Polish grandmother, my father was from Poland, and Tala also has Polish family so I think we chatted about that, Tala could not have been nicer nor more welcoming. It is a very comfortable place with lots of easy chairs around small tables, and then some tables and regular chairs, and a nice long bar. The decorations are eclectic and attractive. So the next time I was in the neighborhood, my friend wasnt around, but I stopped at the Goodwill and was kind of magnetically drawn to Tala Wine, even though I never go to restaurants or bars by myself! I brought in my service dog (black lab) who is super friendly and can work a room like you wouldnt believe, and although I always keep her quiet and at my side until indications otherwise, several other customers made it clear they wanted to meet her, so that was nice. I have since stopped in twice more by myself. How weird that I live a 30-40 minute drive away in traffic and I am kinda starting to think of this place as my neighborhood hangout! I like the artichoke dip, which is baked to order, it is creamy and spicy and tart. TBH I would prefer it with small chewy baguette slices (preferably sour dough) than crackers but it is still very yummy. I usually get the flight of four 2 oz glasses for $20. Most of their wines seem to be in the $16 to $20 per glass range, so the flight is actually a bargain. I have enjoyed every variety I have tasted. I will definitely be back sooner rather than later! Wow! What an unfortunate experience we just had. My partner and I had waited 15 minutes just to receive a menu after multiple attempts to flag her down. Additionally, we did not get any water though she had been serving water to other customers. Our server, who was also working in the bar, was cold and did not feel welcoming at all. Decided that it was best to leave. This is not our first time here, we previously had a great experience. Very upsetting as we felt left out. We hope this doesn't happen again as we love a good wine flight. read more

Nestled somewhere between a bakery and a bank, this wine bar is unassuming from the outside, but so delightfully cozy and cute once you step inside. We came on a Friday night with ~45 min left before closing, and there were quite a few groups still inside. You could tell they have a lot of regulars, as well as others like ourselves, excited to try for the first time. The 3 of us got the wine flight; each wine was so delicious and unique. Who I assume was Tala came by to explain a few of the wines, and you could immediately tell she was super passionate/ a wealth of wine knowledge. She even pulled out a wine map for one of the pours, showing us exactly where the small Jura region is in France. They also have a few board games/cards, which we enjoyed, but it's also a great place for great conversation. So grateful to have this delightful wine bar only a single 14R stop away from my house. This is truly a unique gem in the Excelsior and San Francisco as a whole. If you're not familiar with the Excelsior, we have quite a few gems so check the neighborhood out! Tala is a natural wine bar which is refreshing in a region so familiar with wine country. The natural aspect adds a fun twist to any palate (you'd be surprised!) They have themed nights with flights. It's a great chance to check out different varietals and regions. Who else does this?! Expand your horizons... As of now, Thursday is a "blind" tasting complete with brown bag bottles. You get a map, your senses, and sommeliers who encourage you to scratch your wine brain. Friday is a guest sommelier or wine veteran who specializes in the wines being served. It's a unique way to try wines you'd never think about. You can always buy a bottle and drink it there with a standard, affordable corkage fee. If Tala is around, she's a wealth of knowledge and will steer you in the right direction. Lauren is a breath of fresh air from other places. I love her candid and encouraging demeanor when trying new wines. They usually have some single bottles open for by-the-glass purchases. They recently got an entertainment license so expect even more from the space! Live music, events, shows, and more. *The prices are ludicrous for SF.* Wine not your thing? They have so many amazing beers from local breweries like Barebottle, Laughing Monk, and more. Alcohol not your thing? They have coffee, tea, and non-alcoholic beverages as well. The food plates are always worth it too. They offer carry-out and wine club memberships as well. It's really a one-stop shop here in the E, and I'm so happy to have them here. Dogs are allowed, depending on the food offerings there can be vegetarian options, and since they have a specific license, under 21 is not allowed. read more

Our neighborhood is very excited to have Tala Wine opening on Mission Street! This will for sure become a go-to hangout spot. I went to the soft opening in early June. Tala, the owner, is incredibly welcoming, easy to talk to, and just a sweet personality. She's knowledgeable about wines and recommended and let us taste a few before deciding which glass to get (about $7 a glass). She offers a discount for teachers and healthcare workers, woot. She also sells beers from local breweries like Laughing Monk (about $20 for a 4-pack). She takes card or cash (she uses Square on her iPad). The spot is cute, with plush sofas, tall ceilings for tons of natural light, and bar seats. Somewhat minimalist but also artsy. She also offers a wine club, and the biggest draw is you don't HAVE to get wines weekly or monthly. You can choose how often your delivery comes, and you can pause anytime. She understands that everyone has different needs and financial resources. read more

A beautiful gem of a space in the heart of the 94112. From the gorgeous chandelier and sconces to the dahlia mural, Tala has beautiful design taste that's as amazing as the wines being poured. We had the biodynamic flight and each wine was stunning. Tala gave a succinct yet special explanation of each wine being poured. Prices are super reasonable, especially given SF and inflation. And, there's even a 15% discount for healthcare workers and educators! Service is down-to-earth, friendly, and attentive. They also offer a unique wine club membership which I appreciate has various degrees of commitment--even as low as twice a year--with nice perks like 10% off all in-house purchases and no corkage fee on bottles purchased and consumed on site. Just OK. I'm writing this after my 2nd time coming here. 1st time was a 2 star experience. It wasn't very busy but the staff was not attentive or even very friendly. Wines were OK but expensive and when I asked for a sparkling wine the server told me she wasn't allowed to open a fresh bottle, so no sparkling for me that day. Tonight I came for a special tasting of Spanish wine. Tasting if 4 was reasonable $20, the young man who gave the tastings was nice and informative, but after the tasting I sat around fir bout 25 min and no one ever came to see if I needed something else. The 2 women working there were very inattentive. Later , when other people came in I heard them get a big welcome and a whole spiel about the tasting, how ri order food etc...none if that I received. I dint know, I know several places I can go and get much better service. No one likes to be ignored. Probably won't come back here again. read more

Great new addition to the neighborhood! I like wine. But, unlike many other reviewers, I'm not a wine buff or likely to join a wine club. You really don't need to be to enjoy Tala Wine. I do know enough about wine to know it's good, though. And I know enough about SF to know that the prices are AMAZING. Like for under $14 wine that makes to say: "Wow, that's tasty." The last time I was there, all the glasses were $12 or less. There's a good beer list for the non-wine drinkers. The flights are fun because they'll explain each glass and the pour is pretty good for a flight. I haven't tried the food, which seems to be mostly of the cheese and fruit variety.
