    Raspberry white mocha

It makes me SO sad that Talia's is not super close to my house, but every time I find myself in Elkin (or nearby their other locations in Wilkesboro and Boone) I always have to stop in. This location is drive thru only and you might easily miss it if you don't know what you're looking for. A hidden gem indeed. Talia Espresso has one of the most creative menus I've seen with tons of signature drinks. I wish I lived closer truly so I could go every day and try them all. I love the raspberry white mocha so much, and this time I tried the butter brew (espresso, toffee crunch, cinnamon and whipped cream) and it was delightful! The staff here are always super kind and helpful with suggestions (I usually narrow it down between a few and let them pick - if you are down to be surprised, I totally recommend you do this too!) I am always a sucker for a signature latte (iced!) so that's what I go for but they have tons of other options too. Everything from regular brewed coffee, mochas, frappes, fruit smoothies, tea, hot chocolate, as well as pastries! This is an absolute must! Do yourself a favor and don't miss this!

This was a great find! Coffee spots are limited off 77 in this stretch. Talia is perfect! It's found at Exit 85 off I77 in North Carolina; one exit down from Jonesville. Talia is small, drive thru only coffee hut, but don't judge a book by its cover. They have a full menu that you would expect from any brick and mortar coffee house. A wide variety of specialty coffees, bakery items and oatmeals. I went with a Christmas morning mocha that was fantastic. My wife had a peppermint mocha. Talia is a great place to get your coffee fix if you want something more than your basic gas station coffee. Talia is highly recommended for the traveler or even anyone who lives in the area. We will be back!

The hardest part was choosing a drink from the aptly named, southern inspired menu. Should I have the Hell in a Handbasket, Mama's Switch, or a That'll do Pig? You can't go wrong. For dinner, I had the filet, medium rare, and it was perfectly seasoned and cooked. That shouldn't make a restaurant stand out, but based on recent experiences, it was a delight. Dessert was a hot bread pudding accompanied by vanilla ice cream. Superb. Stop by this gem of a place if you are in the area. Lots of cute shops nearby, too.

We were traveling through Elkin and while The Yellow Door Cafe had almost no presence on Yelp we did see many positive reviews in Google and decided this was a great opportunity to add to the Yelp community. We arrived close to noon and were greeted immediately upon walking in. The building appears to be a converted home and is cozy and well kept. We noticed almost immediately there was a connection to Angry Troll Brewing which is another local business in Elkin that we are fans of. The signage for Yellow Door also states they are affiliated with Liberty Catering. We were placed at a small table and provided menus along with a short menu with featured their daily specials. Our server was friendly and helpful in telling us more about their business and making recommendations. My wife decided on the chef salad while I chose the chicken cordon bleu sandwich with fries. Our food arrived a short time later and looked delicious. In addition, the place started to really fill up. There were several tables seated while we enjoyed our meal. My wife really enjoyed her salad but it could have been bigger, she would have loved the option of ordering a larger size for more money. The ingredients were fresh and delicious. I thought the Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich was also delicious. The fried chicken was very crunchy. I got the garlic aioli on the side but thought it was yummy and kept dipping my sandwich in it. My wife noted the restroom was clean and well appointed as well. The prices were reasonable and we really enjoyed our meals. This is an excellent stop while in Elkin and near the historic downtown area.

TYD serves brunch and a great selection of sandwiches at reasonable prices. Our party of four for lunch today started with their Pimento Cheese appetizer (available hot or cold). It comes with an amply supply of crispy, house made pita chips. We ordered ours hot. It was creamy with just a little kick. NOT oily like a lot of heated pimento cheese. The Reuben had a healthy serving of corned beef, just the right amount of kraut, and a creamy, Swiss cheese, and sweet Thousand Islands. Rue Bread was grilled just right. The BLT on toasted Sourdough bread was piled high with bacon, fresh tomatoes, and crispy lettuce. With mayo. Bacon was a thick slice, cooked perfectly. The French Dip on Ciabatta bread. Thinly sliced roast beef, with caramelized onions.and Swiss cheese was very good. The dip was ok. Could have a little more kick. Muffuletta sandwich (turkey, ham, olive tapenade, Swiss cheese, and a goat cheese spread) was delicious. They offer fries, sweet potato fries, potato salad, and a pasta salad as sides. Fries were crispy and tasty. Sandwiches are offered on breads appropriate for each sandwich, but you are free to choose other breads. TYD also offers a burger, chicken, chicken salad, and egg salad sandwich. There is a small bar menu and local craft beer available. We highly recommend the Yellow Door Cafe.

Now the wine, I was not blown away unfortunately and each, had a way of making me think I was tasting some type of Kombucha due to the spices used in them an a lingering flavor. I opted for the Hot Honey Chicken with Pimento Benedict and wow! I was nervous the pimento cheese would be overpowering, but it wasn't at all! It was a nice, creamy complement to the spicy crispy chicken. The hollandaise cut through some of the richness for a pleasant mellower. Prices are reasonable and our waitress was great! This is a solid restaurant with much to offer in the brunch/breakfast area - an area that has become popular and chic, and it almost always means much will be expensive, usual very expensive considering the less than costly menu ingredients that drive food choices here, and other such brunch spots. Brunch is seen as more than just a meal for some folks who are all into what is trendy, and restaurant are aware of this and prices are raised due to the "experience" element! I have tried several items here including their version of Huevos Rancheros (not a fan of how they make it, pulled pork is a party foul), the Eggs Benedict (decent but over priced for sure, $17 with bacon added), and several Omelette choices, can reach $15. This is obviously a popular spot in downtown Winston, but I find it generally overpriced, loud, and the service is inconsistent. I like a good adventure, but somethings simply are not worth the cost! Note that the prices for individual items are written, very lightly with no $ sign to the right of the item. This is done intentionally to make the customer pay less attention to what they spending. Many restaurants are using some form of this approach!

The positive points are the accommodating, friendly, informative front desk staff. Breakfast was made on site from scratch, it was good and very well priced at $10.95. Although, people not coming in to eat breakfast shouldn't be picking up the lids to food to see what's there, read the signs or ask. My bed was very comfortable, with clean crisp white sheets. I was very pleased with the room, until I saw the moldy grout and broken toilet seat in the bathroom. After driving 8 hours I was too tired to change rooms that night. IF IT COMES, I MAY AMEND THE REVIEW] Don't Let My Mistake Become Your Mistake I rarely write negative reviews, but this was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. The HVAC system at this property is apparently old and, according to staff, frequently malfunctions. Unfortunately, I learned that firsthand when the air conditioning failed on the hottest day of the year--July 4th. After a long flight and drive from Charlotte Airport, I arrived expecting a comfortable night's rest. Instead, I spent a sleepless night in a sweltering room. To the hotel's credit, staff offered me a replacement room, but what was supposed to be an upgrade was just as hot as the standard room I had originally booked. At that point, there was no meaningful solution to the problem. What made the situation even worse was the hotel's billing policy. Unlike most hotels that charge you after your stay, this property charged my credit card in advance. That's particularly bad news when the hotel cannot provide the basic service you're paying for: a room with working air conditioning. With no realistic option but to leave, I checked out early on July 4th, forfeiting the second night of my reservation. Yet the front desk staff informed me they were not authorized to refund the unused night, despite already having charged my card. I was told that only the manager, Mr. Aaron Simerlink, could approve the refund--and that he works only Monday through Friday. Think about that for a moment. The hotel could charge my credit card immediately, but the employees standing in front of me supposedly lacked the authority to return money for a night I would not be using because the room was uninhabitable. Why should a guest have to spend a holiday weekend chasing down a manager to obtain a fair refund? Adding insult to injury was the customer service that followed. Mr. Simerlink initially avoided taking my call, and when I finally did speak with him after the front desk returned to him a second time, he ended the conversation by hanging up on me. That is not how a reputable hotel treats a guest who experienced a major service failure. Ironically, when I checked out, the front desk had mistakenly billed me for the room "upgrade." Somehow, they were able to correct that charge without Mr. Simerlink's intervention, yet they remained powerless to refund the unused night. The inconsistency speaks for itself. I eventually noticed that the unused night's charge had been refunded. That was the right outcome, but it should never have been a struggle to get there. A reputable operator would have shown genuine concern for a guest who endured a sleepless night in extreme heat. The response should have been immediate, apologetic, and customer-focused--not reluctant, dismissive, and adversarial. My advice is simple: don't do it. If you're considering staying here, remember that when things go wrong, how management responds matters just as much as the problem itself. Based on my experience, you deserve better. Listen to what I'm telling you. Don't let my mistake become your mistake. You deserve better than this

We still had a twenty-minute drive to the lodge when we reached the North gate. The drive was pretty, though, and passed quickly. The circular driveway in front of the lodge was clogged with cars, forcing us to park down the road a bit. No one was around to welcome us, and finding someone took us a bit. Once we did, the valets quickly took care of us, and we were checked in. Our room on the second floor overlooked the 18th green and a valley on the backside of the lodge. It was terrific: large and spacious, with lots of wood and chunky lodge-style furnishings. The bathroom was huge, with a large tub, separate shower, and his-and-hers sinks. The minibar came stocked with complimentary non-alcoholic drinks and some snacks. While staying here, we enjoyed their astronomy presentation at the top of the silo, walking on several trails through the nearby woods, time in the spa, and making smores out back by the fire pit in the evening with the other guests. There was a special cocktail hour with apps and drinks, and a chance to talk to some of the local providers of food and items to the hotel. They do an excellent job of using local sources for the lodge. Dining was top notch, except at the Stables family-style restaurant. The Stables was a disappointment. Our other meals though in the lodge were top notch. The staff at Primland is the best, and they are what make this place so special.
