Everything of course started smoothly with her offering me water when I sit down and I'm like, that's great. She proceeds to braid my hair. So far so good. But when she was using the thread to complete the sew-in, I asked for her to loosen a specific braid at the back of my head because it was too tight (creating a burning sensation as a result), and while more professional stylists will oblige this request, redo the specific braid that was causing an issue, she argued with me, saying that the braids couldn't possibly be too tight as a result of her braiding and tried to charge a takedown fee(!). After I again expressed my discomfort at the braid's tightness (and my scalps reaction to it because it didn't seem normal) and requested for her to loosen the braid to make it more comfortable, she cancelled the appointment mid-service, refusing to either complete the service (after I pleaded with her to continue and tried to work with her on the issue) or take down the weave she had already sewn in, and requested a "cancellation fee" of a $100 dollars (supposedly "1/3" of my service, which was a $165 closure + $20 dyed knots for the closure). Then, despite agreeing to accept credit card payments inside her salon, she claimed her Square/credit card processing service was missing its charger (how the hell was she going to charge me for the full service?) and therefore unable to process credit card requests. My entire time in the salon felt like a long con and she had to nerve to tell me I looked too uncomfortable for her to complete my booking. I had to find a new stylist to complete the work she should have done herself. If you want to deal with a con artist will scam you out of your hard-earned money, this salon is for you. Do yourself a favor, ask to see her credit card processor first (since she finds it apropos to hook up a supposedly $1,000+ machine without a charger) and make sure every service you get is processed by debit/credit. Or do yourself a bigger favor and don't come here at all.

She was very pleasant to talk to. However, I got the sense that she was rushing my hair. She put 6-8 GIANT base braids in before she started installing the hair. I asked her to cut the hair in half prior to installing it because I prefer shorter hair (I have had this style before and know what I am talking about). She cut the first pack in half and then proceeded just start installing the long strands of hair in my head without cutting them. She also was CARELESS when it came to handling the hair, ruining the natural curl texture of the hair, turning it into straight frizz. I also told her at the beginning about the single brown pack of hair I wanted mixed throughout, which she forgot about and just installed it in the middle of my head, followed by the black hair on top so there is no visible highlight. For the big finisher, I asked her to cut my hair since she did not do what I initially asked and install the hair with the strands already cut, so she proceeds to cut it straight across so I had a mushroom cap for a head. No style whatsoever, just straight across. I then ask her to cut it a little shorter because it was still too long (mind you, it would not have been a problem if she did what I asked to begin with), and she continues to cut it straight across. I was thoroughly upset and did not trust her anymore so I told her to stop and leave it be. She spritzes my hair with 4 sprays of water, puts 2 pumps of mouse (which she calls "setting it") and takes the little hand towel off my back for me to leave. I pay the outrageous $120 she charged for the "style", still tip $10 because thats what my momma taught me to do, and speed off with cut hair pieces all over my shirt. I go home to take a closer look and realize the FRIZZY, UNSTYLED MESS I just paid someone for. I call her back to express my disappointment in the lack of style (which the hair might have looked better if it was cut appropriately), and she tells me I can return, but styling is AN EXTRA $35. Turns out the $120 I paid was only for install, not styling, WHICH WAS NEVER EVER TOLD TO ME PRIOR TO MAKING THE APPOINTMENT OR DURING THE APPOINTMENT. She did nothing to rectify the situation and really didn't care if I was happy or not. Nique is a scammer, does not take pride in her work and should not be trusted. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO TO SOMEONE ELSE who not only knows what they are doing, but has enough compassion to ensure that their clients are happy with their hair. Also, how do you have a shop but not give your clients capes? UPDATE: Right after my appointment I called my friend for help, who agreed that Nique cannot call herself a stylist and leave someone looking like she left me. I had to go to another beauty supply and spend $20 on more hair (since she wasted half of my hair by not installing it cut in half like I asked her to do) to replace the top portions of my hair so I can have some curls on top of the frizz Nique left me with. It's clear her install won't last 2 weeks, when I have previously been able to go 8 weeks between installs. Very, very disappointing experience.

I had a 4:30 PM appointment to have shoulder-length Miracle Knots taken down and two braids installed. I did not leave until 11:30 PM. SEVEN HOURS. There is absolutely no reason a takedown and two braids should take that long. The woman doing my takedown had zero sense of urgency. After about four hours, I seriously considered stopping the service, going home, and finishing my own hair. I stayed because at that point I felt like I had already wasted so much time. This also wasn't my first issue here. On previous visits, I paid to have my hair washed and still went home with product caked around my edges and had to wash it again myself. What really sealed it for me was how the owner handled my complaint. The owner is out of the country, and instead of being able to properly address my complaint through email, she proceeded to send me multiple defensive voice notes. I repeatedly asked her to stop sending me voice notes, and she continued sending them anyway. Then, after I reached out about my experience, the owner proceeded to get on Instagram Live and discuss the situation. During our exchange, she also threatened legal action for defamation of character after I called her a narcissist. At that point I genuinely could not believe how far a simple customer complaint had escalated. This entire situation could have been avoided if my original complaint had simply been addressed. I reached out because seven hours for this service was unacceptable and I wanted a refund for the takedown portion. That was it. Instead, it turned into defensive voice notes, an Instagram Live, and threats of legal action. They also have you fill out and sign a paper survey while you are STILL in the salon in front of the staff. Then when you complain afterward, that signed paper gets brought up as if it proves you were satisfied. I personally felt pressured and uncomfortable being expected to give feedback on the spot. I'm in the service industry myself. Things happen. But how you respond when a customer brings you a legitimate concern says everything about your business. I paid for convenience and instead lost my entire evening and night. The way my complaint was handled afterward made the original experience even worse. Stay away. I will absolutely never return.

If your hair is more damaged (white paper test) than you'd like to admit, she won't lie to you about it and that can be hard to hear. The good thing is that your hair grows back healthier and stronger than before. Michelle is easy to talk to, but she can be very blunt. Nice environment- Very appealing to the eye with coffee, tea and water for clients. There's a microwave for use and eating area next to the boutique. The other stylists are pleasant and join in conversation at times. Massage - Separate service available upstairs. Different packages, prices and techniques. Nice and relaxing after a long day. Parking - Street parking in the front. There's also lots of space in the back parking lot. The bad: Saturdays (10 am -2 pm) at any salon are going to be extremely busy, so a wait is expected. We'd ALL like to be done in an hour and a half but sometimes that just doesn't happen. My advice is to make an early morning appointment or see her during the week. During my first appointment she said my ends were damaged and really needed to be cut. I knew this, but I didn't expect her to give me a haircut, which is what it felt like and what it looked like. I WILL say that my hair was really pretty afterwards, very silky with lots of movement and I couldn't stop checking myself out in the mirror. Total: $100. I wasn't prepared to pay that much for a shampoo, press and cut/trim. $60? Yes. $80? Okay. $100? I'm worth it, but damn it I didn't expect to pay that much. I kept up monthly appointments with her for a while, foolishly thinking it would get cheaper since my hair was healthier then when I first started to see her. Nope. My bill was consistently $100 for every visit. And after a while, I just couldn't afford it anymore. A couple of months later, I needed my hair done for a funeral. She made a little comment about the circumstances of my appointment which I felt was inappropriate and unnecessary. Due to the cost, Turning Heads is an occasional splurge.
