Have seen other parents rave about this place. Decided to try it out however the waitlist is bonkers. It's been about 6 months since we had our first eval. We paid a pretty penny for that initial assessment and not able to get a copy of that report which is odd. Seems like they're backed up and you pretty much have to keep nagging them to get things moving. Not sure what their internal system looks like. I just received an email from the coordinator on my availability a couple months back and that was it. I thought I was the only one going through this but spoke with another mom and same deal with her. If you are also in much need of speech therapy, do not wait for these folks! TALK saved my son! He has Expressive-Receptive Language Disorder among other things. This Disorder affected everything in his life. Before TALK, he couldn't really have a conversation. Now he speaks clearly and answers the convo without any pause. We went through a ROUGH time during a transition to HighSchool & they were with us the WHOLE time. They were able to hold our hand through the whole process and really tackle the whole situation. The result? A more confident, clear spoken person. Incredible. My 15 yr old son on the spectrum has been coming here 2x a week since he was 7. His team has changed over the years but the professionalism and data driven approach has remained consistent. This is what differentiates TALK from other providers and why we've stuck with them even though they are out of network. At Talk it's the approach that counts although all the SLPs truly care about the kids and know how to handle difficult behaviors as well as pragmatic speech. My son is still hard to understand but he has gain proficiency with the AAC and his receptive and expressive vocabulary has increased exponentially. read more

I'm so happy that my son has been going to TALK. They've provided the very consistent, patient, professional approach to speech, reading, and social interactions that he's needed. I think all the progress he's made the last 3 years has been because of TALK. The staff is always eager to work with me and make the extra effort to care for him. They even visit his school to coordinate with his teachers. They are outside my network but I haven't found another place that has taken on my son's communication issues like this place. read more

I have been a happy client of TALK since September 2020. They were the only speech therapy provider willing to provide in-person appointments (since Zoom therapy was not working for my preschooler). Since going to TALK, my daughter has gone from barely saying any sounds to non-stop talking. They have worked on her motor planning issues and while she still has some sounds to conquer, have been extremely supportive and made huge strides in her speech and communication. I am eternally grateful for the team at TALK and would recommend them wholeheartedly. In fact, we drive over 30 miles each way to come to TALK because they are better than any other speech therapists in our area! read more

Big shoutout for the team at TALK! My 9 year old son had some disfluency challenges for a year and a half. He started at TALK earlier this year, and he had little awareness of his own bumps in his speech. Within a few sessions, he made big improvements. He was consciously utilizing the tactics he was teaching, and his speech smoothed out so quickly. What was equally impressive to his improvement was the fact that he enjoyed going to his sessions. His therapist, Courtney, was fantastic with quickly building rapport and making each session fun and engaging. We were just a couple of months into his therapy when COVID 19 hit. The team adapted to the virtual therapy world without missing a beat. They were very communicative to me throughout the treatment to ensure that I could help support him at home as well. This review is long overdue. My son is in the 1st grade now but we came to TALK when my son was only 18mos old. He was diagnosed with a motor planning disorder. He had no sounds for anything he wanted/needed and we would just guess if he needed to eat/be changed/or needed comfort. His pediatrician highly recommended early intervention. Things we were told by various pediatricians, GGRC, and therapists: - Early intervention will help give him the foundation/tools so that when he gets to school, he won't be struggling (as much). - His personality is in there, we just need to give him the tools to communicate. He's probably not as quiet as you think he is. -His mis-pronunciations are cute now, but may not be so much when he's older At first my son learned to sign "more" and it showed us how much he was trying to communicate but just didn't have the tools to do so. It was both heartbreaking and joyous at the same time. He had been trapped inside, not knowing how to communicate. That one sign, that one word unlocked so much and yet there was so much more to work on. Therapy wasn't easy. The time commitment and commute wasn't easy... but we hung in for 3 years and in those short years we learned everything we were told was true! - My son isn't quiet! He likes to jabber ALOT. He's funny, likes to tell jokes, LOVES to laugh and likes to tell complicated/long stories! - His pronunciations are really REALLY clear now and while I miss the baby-talk, I am certainly proud of his speaking now :) - He is at the top of his class in reading and can break down words to sound out AND spell. - When he gets frustrated, he uses the tools he was taught at TALK to push through them and communicate clearly. He got the foundation and tools he needed. We not only got us through our formative toddler years but I continue to see the results of the tools he learned with his time at TALK, everyday in elementary school... years after his therapy ended. Two years ago my little girl could not speak. She had her own very cryptic language that even as her Mother, I had an almost impossible time interpreting. Discouraged with insurance companies and feeling dismissed by doctors, I found TALK in Burlingame and FINALLY felt heard when I met Alexia. The confidence Alexia showed in her work made me feel at ease and assured in the information/prognosis I was given. There is a great balance of professionalism and a playful, inviting atmosphere that secured my belief in the care that my child would receive. All the therapists are kind, warm, smart women, who feel like friends, and my daughter has liked working with them all. TALK has been such a tremendous resource for me in other areas of my daughters learning and development, and they are always up to date with the latest and current therapies. Along with speech problems, my little girl also struggles with sensory issues (related and non- related to speech) that the staff has always been mindful of and thoughtfully incorporated into treatments plans to help support her as an individual! They have provided such a support for me, just as a parent with a special needs child that I have come to rely on and trust. My daughter is now completely intelligible, continuing to meet her goals and she still has the ability to shock me in her progress. I truly don't know where she would be today without the help of the amazing staff at TALK. I would recommend to anyone, with the highest regard, to schedule a consultation and meet the wonderful staff for yourself. Our TALK therapists have made an incredible impact on our 3.5 year old son's life as well as our own. Every child is different and we've seen some kids in the waiting room quickly excelling as well as some taking a little more time to reach their goals. Our son has speech apraxia and was able to make a few verbal sounds accompanied by pointing to items. A year later, in TALK's program, he is saying several words and starting to string together short sentences. While my husband and I are often the only ones who can understand the majority of his words, it's still a great start to what we know will be a long education for all of us. He has always been a good natured boy and due to his TALK therapy, he is able to communicate with us in a way that is joyful and also reduces potential frustration. TALK's staff is exceptional. They have taught our son, us as parents and our nanny techniques to continue at home. We have regular check-ins and they are always available to answer our many questions. We're referred other parents to TALK and hope to do the same here. We are grateful to Mari, Alyssa, Francie, Elizabeth, Megan and so many others. Everyone is extremely professional and you can tell they love their jobs as well as the children they teach. read more

This is one of the best places for your kids to start getting help with speech and social interaction, and OT (YAY!) I love this place, my son loves his teachers, activities and friends. The staff is very knowledgeable, professional and caring. I wish my school can get excited to see me for IEP as TALK for teacher/parent meeting. LOL I wish they helped more with insurance, but I get it requires staffing and time. And email communication would be nice, since i am better at that, but its just me Nut overall, you will not regret starting with them. Just be patient. dont expect your child will give Nobel Prize speech next day, but trust me s/he will speak. Thank you guys for all your support through all those years and crazy days. My son was entering kindergarten and we were looking for speech therapy to help with sounds and clarity on the recommendation of his preschool teacher. TALK had come to his preschool so we went there for an assessment. We did not have a good experience with TALK. He went 2x a week for ~ 5 months and we did not see any progress. The communication with the TALK staff was very challenging, the therapists did not follow-up in the time-frames quoted at the initial visit regarding assessments, and the front office staff did not return phone calls. TALK was too focused on technique and worked on a lot of goals we were not interested in. I also found it frustrating they could not provide work for us to do at home. We have had a much more positive experience at Speech L.O.F.T. where he goes once a week, has much more fun, and made noticeable progress. read more

My son has been receiving speech therapy at TALK since August 2010. My son had been receiving therapy at Mills Peninsula, but the therapist there was uninterested in collaborating with the parent and working as a team to help my son. I wanted to find a therapist who didn't brush aside my concerns, welcomed observations about my son and was willing to communicate. At TALK, Alexia and her team took time to assess my son and draw up a specific plan with specific goals. My son loves each therapist he's worked with. He has therapy 4x a week and every day he runs joyously down the hall and when it's time for his session, the therapist greets him with kindness and enthusiasm. He has made great progress over the past few months and it is such a relief to know that he is in such good hands. Alexia's team is caring, well qualified and flexible. We were referred to TALK by our dentist, who spoke very highly of Alexia. Our son has a tongue thrust, trouble with many sounds and much of his speech was unintelligible. We have been beyond thrilled with our experience. We have been taking our 4 year old boy for over 2 months and there is already marked improvement in his speech. He speaks slower, clearer and is literally learning the proper tongue placement for speaking correctly. Alexia and her team were able to pick up on other issues going on with his language (that we didn't realize) and have come up with a plan to reach realistic and very specific goals. The overall atmosphere is positive, optimistic and kid-friendly. Alexia purposely has us working with more than one therapist, and our son adores the whole team. I really thought it would be a struggle to get him to go to Speech twice a week, but he is always happy to go and seems eager to please his "teachers". Our daughter has attended Speech Therapy at TALK since this past summer and we have seen such a huge improvement in both her abilities and her self-confidence. Her Therapist takes the time after each session to review her progress as well as meeting separately with my husband and I for in-depth goal attainment reviews and future goals to be set for achievement.
