My son came to Speech Goals for several months and attended a weekly group session with Miss Kathy…read more Kathy is great and creates a welcoming and fun environment for the kids. Each week, she would try and incorporate different activities that would appeal to the kids but still help them come out of their shells and develop their language skills. A lot of exercises would be around finding things around the room and helping the child name it out loud to build their confidence in using their words. There were also other set routines built into the class, such as the hello/goodbye song, playtime, snack time, and then music time. I've interacted with different members of the staff and other speech therapists through Speech Goals since my time here and I've been very impressed with the professionalism and genuine level of care everyone has for the kids that come through the program. The only thing I would wish to change is the level of parental involvement that is required. We came for two hours each week, which was really very difficult to do with a full-time work schedule. In fact, we qualified to come twice a week, four hours total, but I knew there was no way I could commit to doing that. It would be nice if there was an option where the classes were either shorter, or the parent could drop off the child and pick them up when class was over like some other speech programs do. Especially when a good amount of the two-hour block is spent during playtime, where the kids get free play in the facility's indoor play area. There is definitely a benefit in helping kids get their energy out and build their gross motor skills but I'd rather focus the time there on the specific exercises targeted toward his speech and take him to the park after work hours for playtime. But overall, Speech Goals can be a very valuable place to go to to help address early development needs for your toddler. Thank you for the partnership these last few months!

I really liked her approach and flexibility with my strong-willed kiddo. He went from a couple words to little sentences, and we always enjoyed our time with her. She was also so helpful with general parenting questions I'd bring up and so supportive when my son had a tough time transitioning between activities.

Megan DePuy is an exceptional speech therapist, and I couldn't have asked for a better one for my…read moreson. If you're also seeking a speech therapist for your child, Megan should be at the top of your list. My then-21-month-old son began working with Megan over a year ago, when she quickly identified his Childhood Apraxia of Speech. At that time, he could only say one syllable, "dah." Now, his language and articulation have improved so dramatically that he's essentially caught up to his 3 year old peers. My wife and I are certain that this progress is largely thanks to Megan's dedicated, consistent work with him. She also built a wonderful bond with our son, making their regular sessions together as true highlights of his week. Now that his speech has progressed, we're sad to be finishing our time with Megan, but grateful for how profoundly she helped our family. We're so happy knowing she'll continue making a great difference for others as she did for us.

Initially, UCSF had recommend a speech center but I was put off by the idea of my shy kid seeing different therapists or doing group sessions. I wanted a focused session with instructor continuity. I myself am a nurse so I was looking for someone who had a great resume but also who was personable with kids - I searched the internet and found Megan. MEGAN IS PHENOMENAL!!!! She's kind, professional, extremely knowledgeable, caring and was able to engage my very very shy toddler. What I love most about Megan is she had fun interactive approaches to initiate the speech therapy that both my husband and I could easily do at home with our kiddo. It's been 10 months with Megan and now our son won't STOP TALKING!!! It's incredible- she is a God send. Please trust your gut instincts if you feel your child needs speech therapy and RUN to see MEGAN. It's so amazing to hear our kiddo tell us "Good Morning - I Love you so much!" THANK YOU MEGAN!

I highly recommend DICP! My daughter, nearly 12 years old,…read morehas been in occupational therapist since she was one year-old. We've seen many therapists throughout the years. When she aged out of her last therapy at age 10, I found Sena at Development Is Child's Play in Burlingame. DICP works with children of all ages and all abilities. They have swings, climbing walls, zip lines, and all different kinds of equipment for taller, heavier kids (as well plenty of equipment for littler ones too). When we joined DICP, Sena did a thorough evaluation of my daughter and found that many of her initial baby reflexes were never integrated into system. Other therapists, especially our school-based OT, focus mostly on penmanship and do not address the fundamental building blocks that make it possible for children to write neatly and perform other fine motor skills. Working on my daughter's core strength, initial reflexes, sensory integration, and motor planning challenges, has finally allowed her to make progress with her writing and other school-based concerns. Sena has been instrumental in helping us with my daughter's toileting troubles both at night time and during the day. Sena is helping her to listen to her body better and response to what her body is telling her. Sena is the first therapist to really address my daughter's core needs and develop a specialized program tailored to my daughter. My daughter is making so much progress thanks to Sena. Sena always listens with her kind ears to my daughter's (and my) concerns, giving advice and offering support in many areas of our lives. She is thoughtful, knowledgeable, gentle, and kind. My daughter loves going to OT at DICP. She loves it, not only for Sena, and not only for the swings and zip lines and obstacle courses, but especially for Roomba, DICP's loving therapy dog. My daughter loves dogs and Roomba accompanies her on all her activities while in therapy. Roomba's loving patience and playful nature gives my daughter confidence and encouragement to keep working and trying hard. Being part of the DICP family has made such a difference in our lives!
