We paid a pretty penny for that initial assessment and not able to get a copy of that report which is odd. Seems like they're backed up and you pretty much have to keep nagging them to get things moving. Not sure what their internal system looks like. I just received an email from the coordinator on my availability a couple months back and that was it. I thought I was the only one going through this but spoke with another mom and same deal with her. If you are also in much need of speech therapy, do not wait for these folks! Unless you're guaranteed scheduled times after the assessment.

Now he speaks clearly and answers the convo without any pause. We went through a ROUGH time during a transition to HighSchool & they were with us the WHOLE time. Judy charges $400 for evaluation, (and $120/ hr for session) which mostly is a written report of your child's history. Nobody can really assess in one hour, but she consistently cancelled all of the future appointments. Once her daughter was sick, flat tire , no show etc. She has policies for clients where they have to pay fines for no show and for not canceling within 36 hrs. We paid $400 for evaluation, report sent to us after three weeks, one no show ( we were frantically looking for her at the doorstep for 20 mts), and two last minute cancelled appointments. Every single time, I had to schedule playdate, childcare for my other son to try to keep the appointmentts, but in vain. We went with a lot of hope for my son. Everything was a waste. Dont trust Judy. I mailed her asking for a refund, no response yet. Now, I have to look for another place who will charge me another $400 for evaluation. Its so frustrating.

Shamim worked with our 4 yo son for about a year (hes 5 now). We brought him to see her because we…read morecould tell he was starting to fall behind in his speech. Many people were having trouble understanding him when he'd talk and he was starting to show some frustration. He would replace some sounds with other sounds, leave some sounds off, and couldn't make certain sounds too. Shamim started with a test to help assess where his deficiencies were and then she shared a plan with us on how to tackle each issue one by one. We saw her 1-2x a week for an hour and our son made massive and quick improvements. She also made it really fun for him. They would play games and she was great at getting him to open up. By the end he was regularly looking forward to visiting "his friend shamim." Eventually he got caught up to his level in speech so we transitioned out from the weekly sessions and yet he still asks when we will visit Shamim again. I couldn't recommend her more for any kid with speech issues. I know she works with many different types of children, has decades of experience and does a wonderful job. If you're looking for the best speech therapist on the peninsula Shamim is your person!

If we could continue services with her, we absolutely would. Shamim is wonderful with kids. It is evident that she has years of experience working with children of all ages and variety of concerns as well as with parents. Her approach is warm, caring, supportive, playful, knowledgeable, creative, and engaging. She was flexible with her treatment approach and met our child where he was at. Our child always looked forward to their sessions. She is also great at managing behavioral regulation and provided some practical techniques to us as parents. In addition, Shamim is wonderful working with parents. We appreciated her willingness to consider realistic recommendations on how to help our child and practice speech/language at home given our busy schedules. She kept us informed with his progress. Even after we moved, she checked in with us and she helped us find resources in our area. I truly believe that working with Shamim was integral to the improvement and further speech and language development of child and has been very beneficial with his progress socially and academically.

Lauren has been instrumental in teaching us and teaching Miles how to listen to his body in order to gain regulation skills he could not access previously. I cannot express how blessed we are to have STPS and especially Lauren in our son's corner. We just started using their BT services - Vivian has been amazing and understands our son so well. They've also been instrumental in getting our son well regulated in a higher demand environment where is being academically challenged to his actual abilities (above grade level). Do not look any further, STPS has amazing professional clinical staff who know kids and have a naturalistic implementation of their therapies.

We figured that we would wait him out, but six months went by and instead of getting better, his stutter actually started to get worse and he started to have some other concerning developments. At that time, we decided to bring him in to see a speech therapist. We feel so lucky to have found Mayra. After 3 sessions with Mayra, my son's speech dramatically improved -- actually, more than improved, the speech disfluency completely went away! We continued to go to our session for a few more weeks until Mayra let us know that she no longer needs to see him on a weekly basis and we should just check in every month or so, so she can keep an eye on his speech and make sure he doesn't regress. Each week, she would try and incorporate different activities that would appeal to the kids but still help them come out of their shells and develop their language skills. A lot of exercises would be around finding things around the room and helping the child name it out loud to build their confidence in using their words. There were also other set routines built into the class, such as the hello/goodbye song, playtime, snack time, and then music time. I've interacted with different members of the staff and other speech therapists through Speech Goals since my time here and I've been very impressed with the professionalism and genuine level of care everyone has for the kids that come through the program. The only thing I would wish to change is the level of parental involvement that is required. We came for two hours each week, which was really very difficult to do with a full-time work schedule. In fact, we qualified to come twice a week, four hours total, but I knew there was no way I could commit to doing that. It would be nice if there was an option where the classes were either shorter, or the parent could drop off the child and pick them up when class was over like some other speech programs do. Especially when a good amount of the two-hour block is spent during playtime, where the kids get free play in the facility's indoor play area. There is definitely a benefit in helping kids get their energy out and build their gross motor skills but I'd rather focus the time there on the specific exercises targeted toward his speech and take him to the park after work hours for playtime. But overall, Speech Goals can be a very valuable place to go to to help address early development needs for your toddler. Thank you for the partnership these last few months!
