    Lychee martini
    Cathy H.

Came here for drinks on Saturday night with some friends and tried the lychee martini, which was pretty strong and had a smoky flavor to it. This place is usually really busy on the evenings so very hard to find a table/seats and to even place an order at the bar. There is free popcorn in the back if you're craving a little snack. The music is good - Bay Area hip hop and the vibes are fun and festive. Would recommend giving them a try for the vibes!

    Guava Martini and Deli Hotdog

So been living in Oakland for going on 15 years now. I'm not what you would call a "bar" person. I tend to enjoy my cocktails, wine, and beer in the cozy confines of my own home. That said I'm occasionally get inspired to go and check out the local watering holes for a good pour, some food if possible, and just to be in the presence of the human pulsation. Walking into Tallboy on a Thursday afternoon was a bit like Nirvana for me. There is a comforting vibe of neighborhood and after work people shedding responsibility and toe the lineness and transitioning to pondering true meaning and the other side of the elliptical bend over nicely crafted cocktails and HOTDOGS! I am a hotdog fiend, and Tallboy has a very creative range on the menu. From a basic onions/mustard, an Elote Dog, an a Coney Islandesque version. Some folk go to bar and line up shots (or craft cocktails). At Tallboy you can do that AND line up their hotdogs which I intend on doing in the very near future. The pleasantries don't stop at the food (there are other delicious snack items on their menu to choose from too). Tallboy has a fully stocked bar, and the menu has a list of really unique and delicious signature craft cocktails. I'm not a Mezcal drinker, but I ended up dubiously ordering their Guava Martini which to my smokey surprise is made with Mezcal. I stayed with the smokey fruitiness of this Guava Martini as it was my mistake that I did not read in the description, and ended up chasing it with their Tamarindo Cocktail which also has Mezcal. To those who really enjoy Mezcal the Tallboy Guava Martini and the Tamarindo Cocktail do not disappoint. Both have that deep Smokey Mezcal essence, but cut with the fruit sweetness. I personally think the Tamarindo balances well with the Mezcal. The Guava Martini the Mezcal comes through stronger, but both are just the tonic to release any existential pinging going on in your head. If you really want to kick in the hyperdrive pair either of these with an Elote Dog l. I had their Deli Dog which sufficed. I think the Deli Dog would pair better with their standard Martini, but hey let's us not bring that snobbiness into Tallboy. Tallboy has an element of cloak and dagger or secret treehouse club about it. What I mean here is there is no signage on the outside (please keep it that way!). When you walk past all you see is this quaint beigeish/yellow brick façade of an establishment which begs you to press your face to the glass and scan what in the blazes is going on in here! Before you know it you are caught in the Tallboy tractor beam, and you find yourself sitting at the bar with some kind of craft drank and hotdog pondering the space and the very nice old fashioned wainscoting painted a shade of green circa 1930 (my description of winning in life). The cadre of bartenders are all really pleasant folk, very attentive (checking in with you to see if you need another round, hotdog, or snack), and they know their craft and the menu. Tallboy also has SLUSHIES, and I did not do a deep dive on them, but I'm positive they may/do put spirits in them; or not. Also I noticed other patrons with a beautiful enticing thing that looked like an ice cream sundae milkshake hybrid (it had what looked like whipped cream on top) in on old timey ice cream goblet. This could be a craft cocktail they make with the slushie, but major props for serving it in that goblet. I will investigate on my next visit which I intend to be very soon. Tallboy is the kind of bar establishment I could easily adopt as my after work living room for a couple of hours everyday.

Absolutely loved Tallboy and will be back! Came here with my boyfriend on a Sunday around 7pm and it was poppin, we got a seat at the bar and that was great. The people are all so nice and attentive. I love that they serve hot dogs too, what a fun little touch! We got a couple drinks, he got some fun whiskey drink and I got an espresso martini which was so good, highly recommend. I got my shaken and not frozen, but I'm sure the frozen one is also good!

I'll give it to them, Tallboy is a solid concept with their "tinis & weenies". However, a clever concept can carry a place so far. Customer service is a close second to concept. Tallboy's martini menu is well-executed. While I didn't personally try one of the slushies, a friend ordered the espresso martini version and gave it a solid thumbs-up. Unfortunately, the experience falls apart when it comes to food and service. Waiting 30+ minutes for two hot dogs (after paying) is hard to justify. When I checked in with a server, she was curt and dismissive. She was quick to explain there was only one person in the kitchen, with no effort to offer a solution, timeline, or even basic courtesy. I understand staffing issues happen. However, customer service is a close second to concept. How an issue is communicated and addressed is what separates good service from bad. What's more frustrating is that these aren't customer problems to absorb. If the kitchen is understaffed, if tables aren't being cleared in a timely manner at a seat-yourself spot, those are management problems. Guests should not have to choose to leave without the food we paid for. There's a lot of competition out there, and concepts alone aren't enough to bring people back. I genuinely wanted that hot dog. That's probably the most disappointing part of the whole experience. Great drinks, solid ambiance, but the service needs serious attention.

Tallboy has a great atmosphere, and the bartenders are always friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. I honestly can't remember the last time I had a hot dog, so I'm really glad they partnered with Lion's Dance. I've tried two of the six specialty hot dogs so far, and both have been amazing. The Big League mocktail is one of my favorites--it tastes just like bubblegum without being overly sweet. The Honey Bunny is delicious too. I'll definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.

Frozen espresso martini and lychee martini

I was invited to a catch-up session here, and this is definitely the right place for such an activity. Plenty of seating options coupled with it a relaxing vibe makes for a good time. You have to go up to the bar to order but the thing is there's multiple bartenders so the way it was not very long. They slipped on martinis of course! I had the Frozen espresso martini which tasted like a chocolate milkshake, and my friend had the lychee martini. The surprise was that it was made with mezcal, and although smokey it was very refreshing. No outing is complete without nibbles. The bar provides free popcorn however an order was placed for the elote hot dog. This one is quite a looker but I was expecting it to be a little more spicy given that it's packed with jalapenos but it's satisfied the need.

Really well made drinks here esp martinis and cool local vibe! Loved the playlist - at one point "Brown-eyed girl" (super random hadn't heard it in forever) the 70s song came on!! Some call it here a dive bar but like I don't see it... They also have a beer - shot special! The dude behind the bar was a super good bartender and interacted with his customers - the girl not so much. Definitely a must-try

Stopped in for after work drinks with friends. Parking meters had just gone to free (after 6pm. Parking by the Church's chicken (diagonal from Tallboy) is kind of suss. The bartenders were all super attentive and I enjoyed my drink and went for a nostalgic Jell-O shot (onlyfans). Next time I'll try one of their vegan dogs.

Visit Tallboy last night for the first time and it was such a vibe! Had an espresso martini and it was perfect. The bar was pretty busy last night but that didn't impact the quality and service of the bartenders! They were swift and the drinks came out really good. Also the DJ last night was really smooth and I loved the set!

I'm still enthralled with the Elote dog. Its crunchy bits are everything. I also have a new crush. The Big Leage Chew mocktail is delightful. It has a gorgeous pink color, and the ginger has some bite. The pineapple gives it a hint of sweetness and lime's hit of acid gives it balance. It's complex enough to make you not miss the alcohol. The vibe is relaxed. The people watching is worth the time. Something cool? People like to kick back here. They stay a while If I lived in Oakland, I would be here all the time. I don't. The one sour note is parking. Too many bright, shiny places around to make it easy. If you can, take BART. McArthur is just a few blocks away. Definitely recommended.

I had an amazing time here!!! This place was full so busy and now I understand why. The bar is very speakeasy looking the ambience is filled with diversity, love, and every generation just being with each other. The music playing was awesome. There was every genre you can imagine especially because there was a DJ. This place was so packed that it was a little bit difficult to get a drink, but once you did, wow!!! They know how to make their beverages here. I was super sad that I already ate because their food menu looked amazing. They did serve free popcorn if you wanted some. The way yelp list this place say it's a dive bar, but let me tell you it's far form it! This is more of your gourmet cocktails. It's very hard to get a table, but once you do! Keep it! Gone the vibe is fire and drinks will keep you coming back.

    Martiña Colada
    Young K.

Dimly lit. Smoove sounds. Chill vibes. Pockets of friends catching up over drinks. Singles and couples checking out the scene from the U-shaped bar. Sometimes a visiting DJ will dial it up. Turning it into a melting pot of wiggles and jiggles. Their slushies are addictive. Their cocktails are deliciously creative. One in particular stands out - Martiña colada. The tennis player? No. Just a happy offspring of a Martini and a piña colada. If there's a drink that represents this place, that's it. If you get the munchies, they got the weenies. Feelin' poor? Free popcorn!

    Banana Hammock
    Angela C.

I got one drink from Tallboy after lunch and it was the banana hammock. When they said actual flames, they mean actual flames. It's not like some little candle they garnish on your drink, they actually spritz and flamethrower the drink with cinnamon spice and you can really taste it! Our mixologist was awesome for entertaining us at 2pm on a Saturday and the one drink I got was great and a sneaky one. I'll have to come back to try one of their hot dogs next time!
