stopped in with my SIL a couple weeks ago for a quick drink on a day out. the sour i had was delicious!! service was quick. enjoyed the atmosphere and would definitely come back :)

Barvarian Pretzel Bites, Parmesan French Fries and mini corn dogs
Kayla S.

Brew Lab is one of those places that I enjoy going to every once in a while because the prices are fair, the beer is pretty good, the service is fine and it's kid/family friendly. I'm not overly impressed with their food, I feel like everything I've tried has lacked a little flavor. We almost always get the pretzel bites and mini corn dogs for an appetizer/snack and both seem like they need more salt or seasoning. However, they have good specials and happy hours, plus it's a really big space with room to spread out and just hang for a couple of hours without feeling rushed. This is a restaurant that I will come back to but it's just not a favorite.

Fish and Chips?
Sam P.

On Fridays, I try to get Fish as much as possible, even though I'm not really a religious person. I love fried fish, as a Canadian colony diehard. While they had Fish 'N Chips on the menu, this was a misnomer, they should have called it Fried fish nuggets and fries. With a beer, tax and tip, my meal came out to $29. The food was not good, and it looked nothing like English or Scottish style fish and chips. A good fish is a large fillet of cod, haddock or halibut. I can also take in Salmon....but these were little nuggets and they were soggy, not crisp. To make it even worse, they had not been de-boned properly, a no-no. Two of them had bones in them that needed to be picked out. Secondly, the chips aren't chips, they're seasoned shoestring type fries, similar to those you get from Ore-Ida. I don't mind seasoned fries, but anyone who orders FnC knows that chips needs to be hand cut, thick and unseasoned (that why you give us salt and malt vinegar!) so they can be soft, mash potato-like on the inside. And the beer, it was good but at $7, I expected a pint. I swore, this was more like a half pint or less (can't confirm). The only reason why I gave it a second star was because it was a nice warm day and they put me close to the patio so I got to get some late afternoon sun.

Sweet and Salty Pretzel Bites

Happy to be so close to this awesome hangout!! It is the perfect place to go for a late afternoon patio beer, a tasty pick-me-up snack, or to catch a game. They have some pretty interesting beers on tap - we tried one with gin and a bunch of strange botanicals and while we probably wouldn't order it again we do appreciate the artistry and intrigue of something we've never conceived of tasting before! They truly do live up to their experimental Lab name! The sweet and salty pretzel bites were outta this world! Crisp and hot but soft and fluffy on the inside, I'd crush a plate of these again in a second. The fries were also tasty - overall a great spot to wind down from a farmer's market run!

Barvarian Pretzel Bites, Zuzu's Petals Cider, Tinta Davila Mexican Stout

This was our first time here and we were very pleased! The vibe was very laid back, perfect for a brewery. We also came in during happy hour on a Friday night, so right before dinner rush. We started with in house brews and both of us thoroughly enjoyed our drinks! Zuzu's Petals is such a treat, definitely on the sour end of ciders but so delicious! Tinta Davila was a mouthful of Christmas and didn't have that bitter bite of a lot of stouts (which I personally don't enjoy) have, both were excellent! We started our meal with pretzel bites and they came out fast, piping hot and holy cow was it a MASSIVE serving! What is pictured is probably half of what we received but we were very hungry! You can tell they cook the pieces individually, so it's hot and slightly oily but in a good way, kind of like a funnel cake, without the sweetness. These were a home run. I got the fish and chips which were good but definitely not the best I've had in town. The fries were crispy and top tier but the fish had an almost frozen vibe...what did pull them back though was the beer flavor. It was good, just not enough to write home about. My hubs got the Philly Steak Pita with jalepeno slaw/ he enjoyed the wrap...the slaw, not so much. He is a slaw lover and said this one didn't really have any flavor other than jalepeno. But, that's why you try new stuff on your first visit! Not everything is always a banger! Overall, even with the partial misses, they get a solid 4 from us! We'll definitely be back! Our server was also great, he was attentive but didn't hover...just the way we like it!

The flight

Local brewery on the north side of Overland Park. I'm not a beer guy but my friend is. He chose a 6 sample flight from the 19 varieties available and was impressed with all 6 (a rarity for him). Even the one advertised as eating a churro was good (he says it tastes like a churro dipped in coffee). The beers are flavorful and creative. I chose from the other liquor options behind the bar. We also ate dinner there. I had the street tacos which were ok. The service was good with the bar maid /waitress hustling to get drinks and orders to us. The facility consists of high tables and stools. Televisions are scattered to watch sports. Plenty of parking available. Highly recommended for their beer selection.

Really enjoyed it! I visited on a Thursday and they had a good crowd for bingo and the bar staff was very friendly and helpful. Nice beer selection that has several high in ABV and some sours/goses as well. I particularly enjoyed the Science 101 cream ale and the Thirst Trap saison was good as well. Great location and a fun atmosphere. I have a feeling I'll be back!

Hidden gem in KC. We visited Brew Lab during KC Restaurant week and will be adding this restaurant to our list for date nights. We fell in love with their pretzel bites and queso! We had a flight of their house beer and if you like cider, I recommend Zuzu's Petals!

Spicy Greatness
Erica J.

Hiding on Brew Lab's menu you'll find an awesome vegan-modifiable option: Tofrito Street Tacos {corn torilla, pico de gallo, lettuce, lime salsa verde, tofrito, queso fresco*, avocado crema*}.  Be sure to remove the queso fresco and the avocado crema if you're avoiding dairy.  The tacos are excellent and also reasonable at 3 for $9.  The tacos are not tiny, so the 3 tacos alongside some chips and salsa is a good portion for me.  The tacos might fall apart so go ahead and ask for some silverware.  To drink, if you're not there for beer, I'd recommend skipping the Paloma and getting the Spicy Greatness instead.

We drove over 30 minutes out the way to go to a brewery in Kansas. Times online stated they were open on Mondays at 11am. We arrived early and waited till 11:05 to enter, only to find they were not open. I don't understand why breweries cannot update their times! Very upsetting.

Mitigating Disaster beer, Baja Burger and Fries

Brew Lab started off as a fun brewery concept where you could take beer brewing classes, but it has grown into so much more. It is now a great space that has incredible food. I have been there numerous times, tried a big chunk of the menu (best pretzels in town!) and have yet to be disappointed. Great food, good beer and an altogether fantastic experience!

It gave an option for dining with a group of people or simply dining alone. We arrived around 1pm on a week day, so just after the lunch rush which was perfect. The food was made fresh, I've always wanted to try the barria taco but no one seems to offer anything but a beef option. And finally, I found a chicken one. It was Delish !! Now I couldn't dip in the au just because it was beef but I appreciate having the option. The Mexican rice was light and flavorful. The queso was good however it stiffened up pretty quickly, just in case you feel the anxiety of choosing between. Your appetizer and the main costs course. Over all, a great experience for a late afternoon lunch. Check out it when your craving tacos, I don't think you'll be disappointment.

I wish I would've had more time to look around the market because it looked like they had a lot of good stuff but I'll have to go back and see. They do have tables inside that you can eat at. The food was done at the quoted time and was accurate. The one individual I encountered was friendly. The menu was very straightforward-tacos, burritos, and a few other items, all can be customized. I had to get an order of chips and queso. I really liked their queso. It had good flavor and wasn't overly spicy. The chips were fresh and held up to the queso nicely. I'm definitely probably alway going to order this when I go. I also tried a taco with carne asada. The tacos are the street variety but they are really good sized. They don't skimp on the meat. And the carne asada was really good. No gristle or gross bits. It was chopped finely and I'd definitely order it again. I also had to try a burrito. I tried the El pastor for that and added on all the toppings-cheese, sour cream, lettuce, tomato, and avocado. I also opted for extra meat because it was super cheap-like $1, so why not? Again, I was not disappointed. I did throw my burrito on the good 'ol George Foreman when I got home because they don't grill it at all and I wanted some grill marks on that tortilla. Otherwise, the el pastor was flavorful and tender and the toppings were all fresh. Per usual, my eyes were bigger than my stomach so I saved half of my burrito, but it was a welcome leftover meal the following day. Definitely check them out if you're on the boulevard and want some tasty, Mexican grub.

The service model not one of my favorite, order at the counter, they give you a number, and bring it out. This one was not bad. We were a bigger group and multiple people brought food out. It's definitely not close, a little bit of a drive (almost half an hour) but, it's so worth it! I've now visited three times and every time is almost better than the last. There are so many options for tacos here as well as combo meals, loaded fries, salads and other sharables. Truly, something on the menu for everyone. Also, the mission statement of this restaurant makes it even better than the savory, sensational food alone. They give back meals to the hungry with an emphasis on philanthropy. The employees inside the bright and cheery dining room are always so helpful, they really seem to love what they're doing and the work environment embodies the mission statement of the restaurant. I can tell the people working there take pride in what they do. Where do I start on the food...I've tried quite a few tacos on the menu and a lot of them are standouts. There are of course classic renditions of Tex-Mex tacos as well as new inventions, like a crab cake taco. I also have tried the steak and blue taco which wasn't my all time favorite but definitely had flavors that all worked together. Just to me the steak was a little chewy and tough but, I loved the additions of bacon and crumbled blue cheese, it was so hearty and creamy from the ranch sauce with a tad of heat from some jalapeño. The seafood tacos really shine for me and my palette, I really loved the snappy firecracker fried shrimp taco. This is definitely for the spicy sisters (and brothers) because it has an Asian inspired bang bang sauce as well as a peppery punchy sriracha sauce. Such a winner! Another winner in my opinion is the blackened mahi mahi taco with a creamy slaw and yum yum sauce which is just YUM! It's fresh and flavorful. The Korean steak taco has an interesting added crunch from a topping of fried wonton strips and an umami glaze on the steak. I prefer it to the steak and blue even though it's simpler in the number of ingredients. Who doesn't like a taco with fried pickles on top?! If you are with me and you are a pickle princess (or prince) and aren't afraid of a little spice then the buffalo chicken taco is for you. Another spicy option is the mango habanero grilled chicken taco, it may be the spiciest on the menu but the flavors pack a punch. The crispy cabbage and the creamy avocado cool down the mango habanero salsa and the crumbled salty cojita cheese topping is the most perfect finishing touch. Also, just a note, these are no small street tacos so, even though at first the price may seem shocking they are definitely filling. I barely finish three each time I dine and I leave very full and satisfied. Another favorite of mine has been the refried black beans that come with a Chipotle component that makes them unique. The guacamole is also fresh and limey, so good with a thin crispy salty chip dunked in. The queso isn't anything too special but who doesn't like ooey gooey melty cheese?
