All good things... We were invited to an impromptu event to taste the new additions to for the Menu when they reopen. They also were 'blowing the taps' which meant we get to try many of the beers that they were saying good-bye to. So, a little story. I was one of the first to wander into a place called Brew Lab years ago. I actually found the place because of looking for brewing supplies. There were a good amount of tools here but also these folks were serving their beer! So, what a great idea. I bought some grain... and had a few beers! I visited this place a few more times on the regular. Suddenly one day there was appetizers. And had the most divine pretzel bites that have ever existed. Next time was an amazing club sandwiches. And some pulled pork. All of the food has always been great bar food. And then there was the beer. So many delicious beers each time. Too many to try at once. But, that is all memory lane... Now... here is the news! Brew Lab is changing. The ownership remains the same however they have given up the brewing. They will have a few of their specialty beers that they keep on tap but they will have a lot more taps of beer from other breweries. On this visit they brought out a large amount of samples of the food that they will be adding/altering in the menu going forward. There were a lot of really delicious items and I am excited for when they have the full menu and I can order some of them. Most notably I am excited for the Catfish Po'boy sandwich. We had to try the newly Tallboyz Garage as we were curious of the new menu & atmosphere changes (a Friday night). We seated ourselves near the open garage door/patio. We ordered the Jamaican Mule & Patron Margarita. Both of our drinks tasted mixer heavy. Our server & another one we flagged down had no knowledge of the food menu items; they couldn't describe menu items, how they tasted or give recommendations . This shouldn't be the case for this change over, we blame the management for the lack of education. The highlight of our experience was the Pickle Bombs: fried chopped dill pickles & cream cheese. His Hot Chick sandwich had avery thin chicken patty, it had a good taste but needs more ranch. My Pocket Philly was extremely messy & very salty with the espinaca sauce. Prefer the former Philly in a pita. My side of tater tots were a little undercooked. Upon reviewing our bill, we were charged 50 cents for ranch. The side salad (premium side) already had a $2 up charge but we were charged 50 cents for ranch dressing? It seems excessive & needs to be communicated via menu or server. Overall, disappointed in the changes made. We felt like shortcuts have been made with the change & overall quality not as good. read more

Teamwork needs to be improved. Our food sat under the heater for 15 mins, multiple servers looked at it and left it while our server was cashing out a large party. Finally the bartender started delivering food, after multiple tables food was sitting there. Though the server still never checked on us and took twenty mins, we had to hunt her down for the check. Our food was cold and the dipping cheese was hard. Food used to be tasty here but has gone down hill. Brew Lab is one of those places that I enjoy going to every once in a while because the prices are fair, the beer is pretty good, the service is fine and it's kid/family friendly. I'm not overly impressed with their food, I feel like everything I've tried has lacked a little flavor. We almost always get the pretzel bites and mini corn dogs for an appetizer/snack and both seem like they need more salt or seasoning. However, they have good specials and happy hours, plus it's a really big space with room to spread out and just hang for a couple of hours without feeling rushed. This is a restaurant that I will come back to but it's just not a favorite. read more

I was excited to try Talboyz, but unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. The menu seems to have taken a step back from what Brew Lab offered. I ordered the smash burger, which was lacking cheese and had relish instead of pickles--definitely not what I expected from a "smash burger." The renovations appeared to focus mainly on adding seating and some arcade games, rather than enhancing the overall experience. On a positive note, they do offer water service now. Tallboyz is very fun with darts and pool but a bad burger and confusing bill ruined the experience. Our bill came out to $55. 20% auto gratuity brought it up to $71. We tipped 20% having not noticed that the auto gratuity brining it up to $85 and today I was charged an additional $10 for the tip brining the total to $95. I went for the first time last week. Liked the new reno - bar is big, lots of tv's. I ordered the jumbo hot dog, which was not jumbo - morelike the Coney Island foot longers - skinny. On Fridays, I try to get Fish as much as possible, even though I'm not really a religious person. I love fried fish, as a Canadian colony diehard. While they had Fish 'N Chips on the menu, this was a misnomer, they should have called it Fried fish nuggets and fries. With a beer, tax and tip, my meal came out to $29. The food was not good, and it looked nothing like English or Scottish style fish and chips. A good fish is a large fillet of cod, haddock or halibut. I can also take in Salmon....but these were little nuggets and they were soggy, not crisp. To make it even worse, they had not been de-boned properly, a no-no. Two of them had bones in them that needed to be picked out. Secondly, the chips aren't chips, they're seasoned shoestring type fries, similar to those you get from Ore-Ida. I don't mind seasoned fries, but anyone who orders FnC knows that chips needs to be hand cut, thick and unseasoned (that why you give us salt and malt vinegar!) so they can be soft, mash potato-like on the inside. And the beer, it was good but at $7, I expected a pint. I swore, this was more like a half pint or less (can't confirm). The only reason why I gave it a second star was because it was a nice warm day and they put me close to the patio so I got to get some late afternoon sun. read more

Restaurant Week brought us back this year, but the experience was disappointing. Service was lacking from the start. The bartender Jake appeared to be covering both the bar and tables. We arrived to an almost empty restaurant, yet parties who came in after us were served before we were. We were the last to receive our food, which had been sitting under the heat lamps for some time before our server retrieved it. The biggest issue was the menu. The Restaurant Week menu stated that entrées came with a side (for example, the Goat Cheese Burger is listed with a "side of your choice"), but nowhere did it disclose that certain sides carried an upcharge. We were charged an additional $2 and $1.50, which felt misleading. The table setup also caused problems. The rough wooden tables and sampler tray design made it difficult to remove glasses without spilling. We experienced multiple spills due to the uneven surface and cleaned them up ourselves while staff passed by without offering assistance. Finally, I had won a gift card through an online promotion and received an email from a manager, Melissa, instructing me to stop by to pick it up. During this visit, I was told that she no longer works there and was asked if I had proof. I said I could bring it next time--though after this experience, I doubt there will be a next visit. read more

This was our first time here and we were very pleased! The vibe was very laid back, perfect for a brewery. We also came in during happy hour on a Friday night, so right before dinner rush. We started with in house brews and both of us thoroughly enjoyed our drinks! Zuzu's Petals is such a treat, definitely on the sour end of ciders but so delicious! Tinta Davila was a mouthful of Christmas and didn't have that bitter bite of a lot of stouts (which I personally don't enjoy) have, both were excellent! We started our meal with pretzel bites and they came out fast, piping hot and holy cow was it a MASSIVE serving! What is pictured is probably half of what we received but we were very hungry! You can tell they cook the pieces individually, so it's hot and slightly oily but in a good way, kind of like a funnel cake, without the sweetness. These were a home run. I got the fish and chips which were good but definitely not the best I've had in town. The fries were crispy and top tier but the fish had an almost frozen vibe...what did pull them back though was the beer flavor. It was good, just not enough to write home about. My hubs got the Philly Steak Pita with jalepeno slaw/ he enjoyed the wrap...the slaw, not so much. He is a slaw lover and said this one didn't really have any flavor other than jalepeno. But, that's why you try new stuff on your first visit! Not everything is always a banger! Overall, even with the partial misses, they get a solid 4 from us! We'll definitely be back! Local brewery on the north side of Overland Park. I'm not a beer guy but my friend is. He chose a 6 sample flight from the 19 varieties available and was impressed with all 6 (a rarity for him). Even the one advertised as eating a churro was good (he says it tastes like a churro dipped in coffee). The beers are flavorful and creative. I chose from the other liquor options behind the bar. We also ate dinner there. I had the street tacos which were ok. The service was good with the bar maid /waitress hustling to get drinks and orders to us. The facility consists of high tables and stools. Televisions are scattered to watch sports. Plenty of parking available. Highly recommended for their beer selection. read more

Hiding on Brew Lab's menu you'll find an awesome vegan-modifiable option: Tofrito Street Tacos {corn torilla, pico de gallo, lettuce, lime salsa verde, tofrito, queso fresco*, avocado crema*}.  Be sure to remove the queso fresco and the avocado crema if you're avoiding dairy.  The tacos are excellent and also reasonable at 3 for $9.  The tacos are not tiny, so the 3 tacos alongside some chips and salsa is a good portion for me.  The tacos might fall apart so go ahead and ask for some silverware.  To drink, if you're not there for beer, I'd recommend skipping the Paloma and getting the Spicy Greatness instead. read more

Great spot in downtown OP to relax and grab a bite to eat along with a refreshing pint. Went down here for happy hour with some co-workers and after all was said and done I was extremely pleased. They have a great selection of beers to choose from along with a good amount of cocktails. Personally I would stick with the beers, but there's something for all tastes. On the food side we only ordered appetizers. If I were to call two out on the must have side it would be the pretzel bites and the cheese curds. Brew lab is one of my favorite spots for good food + brews. I typically frequent Brew Lab on Fridays for live music or Sunday for all day happy hour. The build your own sampler and lab nachos are my go-tos. Highly recommend the pretzel bites and mini corn dogs! Brew Lab is a cool space with fun names for each of their beers. The beer list is constantly rotated so there's always something new to try. I haven't been a fan of every beer I've tried, but that is more so personal preference than a knock on the beer. There are plenty of options to cater to everyone's tastes. My only small complaint is the service can be hit or miss sometimes. I think that may have been due to being understaffed a bit. However, I have seen some new faces in recently and service was solid my last couple visits. Definitely recommend giving Brew Lab a try next time you're in downtown OP! read more

We came here with friends on Friday for the first time and I am shocked we have never been sooner. We were always getting coupons in the mail during the pandemic and just never went. They brew their beer in house and have some guest taps. Their food is delicious. They also have live music on Friday nights and that was super fun. The place was packed so definitely get there early! Recently, we have been going to Brew Lab on Tuesday nights for trivia and it's really fun! My best advice for trivia is to arrive early. If you are looking for a large table you should arrive by 5:40...yes really. I had been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally made it! We went recently for a birthday party celebration. The private room where we had our get-together was a nice touch, allowing us to have some separation from the main area. I tried the flight of six beers, and I must say, I enjoyed all of them. They also have happy hour specials, including all day Sunday, which is great. I shared the build-your-own appetizer sampler with one other person. We tried the Southwest egg rolls, cheese curds, and pretzel bites. The food was delicious and had a decent range of flavors. I am eager to try more of their menu items in the future. Everything my friends ordered looked just as good too! I was also impressed that they serve standard beer like Coors Light, not just their own brews. Overall, my visit to Brewlab was a positive experience. However, I did notice that it can get pricey, but I understand that's typical of any place that serves alcohol. While some of my party had minor complaints about the service, we had one server taking care of a rather large group, so I understand the challenge of providing excellent service in such situations. In summary, Brewlab is a cool spot, especially if you're a beer lover. The private room, happy hour specials, and diverse menu make it an excellent option for groups or individuals. I've been here a few times to have apps and a couple of beers. But I was happy to see this place ended up on restaurant week. I didn't realize they had such a good menu and they offer lunch specials during the week. The BLT comes like a grilled cheese and it's delicious. The Baja chicken wrap has quite the kick to to it but it's worth it. However the best part are the pretzel bites and the cheese curds. Get an order of pretzel bites and a festbier and sit back and enjoy a game on one of the many TVs. read more

"This is the best food I've had in a really long time" -my dad, who is very picky. I wasn't sure what to expect, since I hadn't really heard much about Brew Lab and it was a random selection by my mom from the KCRW list. We had 4 people in our party which was we the perfect amount to try each appetizer (minus the edamame), each main course, and each dessert. There was not a single thing we did not absolutely rave over!! Each item was cooked to perfection and so, so flavorful. The food I HAVE to point out as being absolutely TO DIE FOR!!! is the pretzel bites. I'm still drooling over them days later. They are SO crispy on the outside (not the dry, overcooked, chewy outside like some pretzel bites have) and SOFT on the inside. Each one was like a tiny bite of heaven. Not only do they have them as an appetizer with cheese dip but they also have them as a sweet and salty dessert. GENIUS!! Both were delicious in their own way and I just know I will be thinking about them forever, probably. Our waiter was nice and patient and helped with picking the beer flights. He was attentive and made sure we were always satisfied with our food and drinks. It was slightly loud in there but it was fitting for a brewery/restaurant and it didn't interrupt our conversations at all. It was neat having the brewery equipment next to our table to help connect us to the brewing process as we were tasting our delicious beer. I'm not much of a beer drinker but my favorites of the beer options were the chocolate cake beer the raspberry cider. Everyone else in my group had no complaints about the beer they sampled as well, and they made sure to try pretty much the entire beer menu.
