Tally Mac Shack at 1851 was recently featured on the Food Network Guy Fiere show, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. We really wanted to try this location after seeing the show. First concern, where to park? This restaurant is located on Florida State University's Tallahassee campus and parking is always a concern for us non-student, non-parking pass folks. We went on a Sunday, midday, and hopeed that students would still be sleeping late and that we'd find parking. Still a challenge, we ended up parking in CVS's store parking lot. To be fair, we went inside and bought some candy. But it is still a tow parking lot. Not sure when that might be enforced. It's a short walk to the 1851 building, which houses several counter service restaurants, including sushi, tacos, ice cream, pizza and Tally Mac Shack at 1851. Sunday is a good day to try this spot. The line was short and the service was swift and efficient. We ordered the Snortin Nortin, which is pulled pork, smoked peach BBQ sauce and tangy Carolina gold sauce on top of a bowl of mac and cheese. If you're used to Kraft mac and cheese, this is a smooth cheese sauce throughout the macaroni. Almost too much cheese sauce. The pulled pork and BBQ sauce is served in the right proportion. The other bowl we ordered was supposed to be something like a Cuban sandwich. The pork over mac and cheese was fine, but the haphazard way the mustard was added, was not visually appealing, and was there supposed to be some chopped pickles on top? Not sure about that. Again, the cheese sauce was a bit too much for my dining companion. The price may be a little high. Overall, we were filled and had some left over. I think the appearance on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives encouraged us, but I'm not sure we'd return for same. There is a cute ice cream place in the next counter, and a pizza place we might like to try if we can figure out some better parking. read more

My friend and I were very excited to try Tally Mac Shack after we watched the Diners, Drive-ins, and Drives episode. We got the same exact mac n cheese bites that Guy ordered and they were nothing alike in the slightest. There was little to no mac n cheese at all in the Tiki marsala bite, and all you could taste was the breading. They were also extremely expensive and not worth the money. Luckily on my way home I found a homeless man who was happy to take them. My friend and I both spent $20 each and left unsatisfied. The buffalo chicken mac n cheese was decent with a good amount of food. I suggest y'all go somewhere else if you want mac. read more

This place has really good mac and cheese, creamy and delicious. The staff was so friendly, we enjoyed a drink a Drink at Happy Motoring while we were waiting. A little too hot to sit outside but they do have a cool outdoor area. Loved how they even wrote a little note on our bag with our Tampa Bay Lightning playing that night. Try this place! read more

Love, love, loved the outdoor atmosphere and vibe at Tally Mac Shack/Happy Motoring. A little disappointed they no longer had Bye Phylicia. Go for the Gouda Bacon Mac & Cheese and you will not be disappointed. Happy Motoring is the renovated service station and it has fun cocktails, wine slushies, and local beers. You know the night is about to get a whole lot better when you see the Tally Mac Shack pulled up outside! Although the Mac Shack food truck is under a year old, their homemade Mac n Cheese has already become a Tallahassee staple. You'll find them outside of local breweries, bars, and events serving up a variety of macs like their Florida Boil (perfect canjun spices on this one!), pulled pork mac, broccoli vegetarian mac, and short rib mac. Occasionally, they'll even do beer and mac pairing events, just when you thought things couldn't get much better. All of the staff at the Mac Shack have been super friendly, walking you through the menu and chatting about new items, as well as even bringing your food out to you. Holy macaroni this food truck is great! I have heard about this place many, many times, but had never had the opportunity to try it. My wife and I happened to stumble upon a food truck gathering on Thomasville Road and luckily Mac Shack was in attendance. The food here is so good. I tried two separate macaroni creations. Each dish is served with macoroni and cheese mixed with a different blend of cheeses and topped with various meats/veggies. The first dish I tried was the "Florida Boil". It came with mac and cheese cooked with pepper jack and cajun-spiced cheddar cheeses. It was also topped with a decent portion of andouille sausage (so good). The unique mixture of cheese cooked into the macaroni perfectly complemented the andouille sausage. The second dish was the "Snorton Norton". It was served with mac and cheese cooked with smoked gouda. The mac and cheese was covered in pulled pork covered in a delicious barbecue sauce. Once again, the meat offered with the unique blend of mac and cheese was great. Both of the aforementioned dishes were amazing. I couldn't pick which one I enjoyed more, but I would suggest trying any of them. Overall, I would HIGHLY suggest giving this food truck a try. Looking for a spot with the best Mac and cheese? This is it!! I was pleasantly surprised with how much flavor the meal had. I got the Snorton Norton, which was 12 hour smoked pulled pork, bbq sauce, and smoke Gouda cheese. The pork was tender and well flavored. The bbq sauce complemented the cheese very well! I also tried the Florida boil, and wow it was amazing! The truck was located at the Thomasville Baptist Church when I went, but their locations vary. Menu is small but each dish is well thought out and super tasty with some creative options. I had a buffalo chicken Mac and cheese that was good but my boyfriend won the battle of "who ordered best" with his jalapeño Mac and cheese over sausage...that was pretty incredible and left me with some jealousy pangs. Nice concept , cozy spacious environment. Its also connected to a colorful bar. I purchased the Peter Pete Lemon Peppered shrimp/ Triple Pepper Infused White vermont Chadder, Asiago, Brie / Muster. I'm not umpressed. Almost 14 bucks only 10 small shrimp on top of the bowl. Tasted no lemon pepper at all. Very bland and average. It should have had alot more shrimp for the price. So today I hadba lunch date with the misses ordered the pretty peas with ham itsva new addition but not mad at all about the new management definitely an improvement over the last I was big hear big thumps up definitely will be back. I saw this food truck and my eyes lit up...I've been dying to try this food truck for a while now so I was so excited to see what my options were! While there are only 6 different to choose from, I went with the OG plain and simple 4 cheese Mac n cheese. I was a little underwhelmed when I tried it to be honest. While it was great and I ate every bit because well...it's Mac n cheese...I was expecting more or a ooey-gooey consistency but it was lacking just that. Tried Tally Mac Shack at their permanent location in Happy Motoring. I ordered the Down by the Bayou Mac, which was a Cajun flavored Mac and cheese with crawfish. I was pleasantly surprised and super impressed with this place because Mac isn't really my go to food, but I will definitely be back to try their different options. Only bad thing I can say is that the portion was a little small, however it was still filling. I'm particularly fond of the 'basic' Praise Cheesus (both for the flavor and the amazing name) but a lot of their specialty macs are also awesome. They were Panama City Beach Food Truck festival and it was such a disappointment. This is the place I was looking forward to the most. How do you run out of food an hour after arriving. It is a festival you have to know there will be thousands of people. I know I would have come more prepared. If you are going to be a Mac and cheese place it should be above par. The Mac and cheese was just standard you can make in your oven. I had the goat cheese and cheesy Mac that was mediocre. It didn't have a good balance of sauce to noodles.
