This…read morepast week was super stressful, and by Friday I badly needed someone to work on my sore muscles. I was surprised to discover that Sass had same day availability! This place is a bit set back from the road, and I actually drove right by it. I was able to park next door in a cute little consignment shop "Making Sense" (Review for them to follow). Sass is a salon in a renovated old house, with various areas for spa treatments. The first floor has chairs for hair services, different hair and skin products available for sale. Front desk staff are warm and welcoming. My massage therapist was female, in her mid 20s. She was very professional, took time to clearly get an idea of my problem areas, and how much pressure I needed. During my massage, I found out the therapist had only been doing massage for 1 year. I was very skeptical, to be honest. As you can see from my Yelp profile I've reviewed a number of other massage locations, and the experiences have varied from fantastic to horrible. This was on the upper end, luckily. The therapist was able to do deep tissue work, with open communication about any areas of pain. Her techniques are on point, and she was able to use a variety of styles including some shiatsu and Swedish. Her communication skills were good, and she was not overly chatty, tuning in to when I started to really relax. I feel like I could have drifted off towards the end of the session, which is always a bonus for me. (To be pain free and soothed enough to find a restful state is a rarity.) The spa has a salt room set up, up stairs. I doubt I'll take advantage of the salt room, as it is rather small and I would find it more claustrophobic than soothing, but it is well decorated and if you buy in to the "benefits of salt treatment", perhaps this would be worth a try. They sent me home with a brochure for their salt room. There was only one small concerning thing: the wiring in this building. The massage room was in the attic of this old home, and some of the outlets are the older, 2 prong types. The surge protector was connected to the outlet via a converter, and is not a very safe option. It didn't have an impact on my experience, but is a business practice that should be fixed by Sass. The whole building seems to be updated cosmetically, but wiring should be fixed. Sass has different specials available on local Groupon type sites. I'd suggest looking for online deals before booking an appointment. I would recommend this spot for anyone who needs some relaxation and quality spa treatments.

I really wanted to like it here. I did. When I called to get an appointment, I asked for the lowest level they had for stylist. I always do this. I like the lowest level girls. I've done this forever, and I really also don't love paying a lot of money simply for someone with more experience. The receptionist said the stylist's name (which I leave out of reviews that are less than stellar because I don't really believe she was bad, just not for me) and said she was a creative stylist or something or the other, which I just ASSUMED that because I asked for the lowest level, that's what she was. I said sounds good, and was there a few days later. The waiting area is REALLY small and I ended up sitting awkwardly between a couple waiting for their daughter or something. It's open, but man, that was a weird 15 minutes of my life. My stylist was sweet and I really liked her as a person. I loved talking to her and thought she was awesome. That unfortunately distracted me from the fact that she and the salon in general had really different tastes in hair than I did. I realized after all my hair was cut off that this wasn't going too stellar and kept having to kind of ask for things done and explain that basically all of her neat little styling ideas weren't going to happen as I am pretty lazy about my hair. I left with my hair way too styled and poufed up. I have incredibly thick hair, and it was not thinned enough at all, and when I washed it, it was really poufy and thick. When I paid, I didn't really hear the lady, but I assumed it was the price I read online for the lowest level stylist. Turns out, she wasn't. Whatever title she rambled off when I reserved was something above that, which I wish she would have told me a bit more clearly. Maybe I'm not up on the lingo, but all the salons have different names for the different levels, so it's confusing, and I stick with what I do for a reason. But whatever. I left with a bad haircut that I cried to my husband over the next day and it was more expensive that I had hoped since that all happened. Meh, just not my style here and I felt like the communication was really bad.

Back story: I was 7 min late to my appointment because of the cluster of the Mount Rose Ave exit. I drove an hour to this spa to get a prenatal massage at the recommendation of a friend who had just had one. I specifically came here because they were the only spa that said they would do a belly-lying prenatal massage with a special pillow. Once I arrived, the receptionist said that I wouldn't be able to have the full hour massage because there was an appointment after mine. I agreed and said that is totally fine, I completely understand. She also said that I wouldn't be charged the full price for the massage because of this. Once the massage therapist escorted me to the room, she stated the massage would be about 30 minutes. I again stated that was fine and I completely understand and she can do what she needs to stay on time. Upon my interview prior to the massage, she stated that I would be in a side lying position. This was a huge disappointment since I specifically came to this spa to NOT do that position. I went along with it since I was already there. She also stated it wasn't going to be like a regular massage. She was right. Again, disappointed that it was basically like rubbing oil on my body. Upon checking out, the receptionist goes to ring me up, and asked me how long it was. I stated 30 minutes because that's what the massage therapist told me it was going to be. There was no 30 minute massage option for check out. She goes to ask the massage therapist who then tells her it's 45 minutes and that counts for the full time. When the receptionist stated this, I said that didn't seem right (my phone timer said 33 minutes when I stopped it to change. Yes I time people because I don't trust them for this exact reason) so she called her manage. She told her manager that I was massaged for 45 minutes. I was not. And they told me that I had to pay the full price. So not only did they charge me full price for a 30 min massage, I didn't even get the massage I wanted. How manipulative to tell a customer one thing, and then change that at the last minute. I left a tip for 30 minutes of work, specifically for this reason. Will not be returning since they told me over the phone when I booked the appointment that they could accommodate a belly lying prenatal massage, and because of their manipulative charging of prices after a partially rendered service.

On the day of the appointment, the woman eith whom I booked the appointment called and said due to a call off, she was unable to have our take care of my friend and I at the same time. She said she would be able to do us one after the other. I told her that was fine. When we arrived, no one was easily visible in the salon. No music was playing. We were the only 2 people there. The woman I had spoken to on the phone came out of the back room. She was walking slowly. She stated she had fallen the night before and was injured. She moved very slowly and did my manicure and pedicure first. She made little attempt to make conversation. She did not know her own polishes very well and seemed very discombobulated. The manicure and pedicure were less than stellar. She did not ask if I needed my nails to be cut shorter. She did not trim my cuticles at all. My finger nails are unevey shaped and poorly painted. There is paint on my cuticles and naked strips around my edges. There was no attempt made to partially dry them before applying cuticle oil. Overall very disappointed and absolutely not worth the price.

Not a big deal. I sat down and explained I pull red. I do NOT want the red tone. I asked for a darker root color . We looked at swatches which honestly is very hard to do not being a colorist and I told her make it alittle darker but please no gold tone . No red. She did the color (root only) and added about 7-10 highlights. Rushed thru this. Washed my hair and without a full blow dry (or trim as I asked for) she told me I'd have to come back another day for maybe lowlights a style and cut?!? I was EXTREMELY understanding of this woman's time. Was I happy -NO. But I understood. Perhaps she overbooked? However I called in and made an appointment. If she could not take me that day at 130 for the services I asked for then she should have told me so!?! Her friend had driven 2hrs so I was pretty understanding. However, I was also a paying customer. $160 later with hardly a blow dry. No trim. No style I walked out . I then Saw my hair in the natural light and have been upset since. I tried to call for 2days. Nobody answered. I finally got thru today at 9:45 am (sat.) and explained I need her to fix this. I have graduation this week. Lots of family events , lots of pictures. She said No. I have to wait 3 wks before she has time. 3 weeks?!? And his will fade by then?! Honestly I am so upset I have been treated this way. Again if she didn't have the time to do what I was asking when I called for an appointment she should have told me this. She did not listen to what I wanted or actually did NOT WANT. Right now I am just a mess . This is NOT OK. Please be mindful of who is doing your hair . Even communicating with someone doesn't seem to be enough to these days . I work very hard for my money . There were at least 2 employees in the salon with no customers, neither of which seemed very friendly or helpful. I simply wanted my nails removed which is not a lengthy process. I have been looking for a new salon to frequent every two weeks for nails, as my old one is no longer satisfactory, but I will definitely not be returning to Salon 180. Very disappointed as I was told the salon is always very accommodating. Salon 180 has lost a very loyal potential customer with their rudeness and poor customer service.

So I brought her along with me letting her know that because I hadn't made a separate appointment for her that she might not be able to get her nails done too and she said that she was okay with that so off we went. I believe the man who did our nails was named Victor and as he was finishing he just up and offered to do my littles nails too! It was such a wonderful surprise for my daughter and I both to be able to get both of our nails done, it was so sweet of him to go out of his way to do her nails and we were both so very happy with our experience. Even the day after 2 of her nails lost the gel polish (it's debated that she just picked them off, we aren't 100% sure if it's that or just because she has oily nails) we went back and they gladly fixed them. I love anywhere that makes my little feel special, I highly recommend going here for a positive bright experience. Also, of course, I got a fill in for acrylics I got done elsewhere that were not so great and they fixed them up and made them look very nice. It's been a week since getting them done and I've been moving furniture, spackling dry wall and sanding, vigorously cleaning and your average hustle and bustle with 2 kids and not even a single scratch on these nails! (I have the same gel polish on as my daughter, so that's why we think she just picked the nail polish off)

My pedicure was just mediocre, the water was very cold, I wish that they would've offered to raise the water temp since the salon doesn't have heat. My nails were a lot more expensive though than I thought. I didn't realize they charged more for gel paint until the very end and it was $50 more than my home salon and I get the same gel paint there as well. Other than those few instances, everything else was good and I would go here again. The girls were fun to chat with and had a nice ambience.

We ended up waiting about 20 minutes and they started my pedicure 15 minutes before my mom's. This kind of worked out because I got regular nail polish and she got gel and it allowed time for my polish to dry. The awesome: The confusion and wait was well worth it. My mom ALWAYS complains about her pedicure. She did not have one complaint. She said her nail pedicure was perfect. My pedicure was excellent too. Just the right amount of time. The massage was wonderful. The coconut scent reminded me of the beach. The nail tech was super nice. My nails are a nice shape. It was so relaxing.
