I always get this vegetable whenever we have dinner here - really nostalgic :) their drinks are so sweet and dangerous. You can't even tell there's alcohol in it!! For lunch, we had the special Son Krab menu- shrimp donut, pork meatballs, street-style dry egg noodles, Thai chili basil eggplant, coconut fried banana ice cream & coconut bliss. Everything was decent, but nothing really stood out. The dishes felt competent rather than memorable. I've had more satisfying à la carte meals at Pil-Nong Thai, so this set menu didn't quite wow me. That said, I wouldn't rule out coming back. The restaurant's seafood dishes look promising, and I'd be interested in exploring more of the regular menu on a future visit.

Paella anyone? I bet you haven't heard that in a while. And…read morehonestly, who knew it was such a Portuguese thing too? We all know Spain made it famous, but Portugal? INSANE. Back to why I do this. I'm endlessly curious about food, people, and the magic that happens when great meals meet good music. Friendships just seem to evolve naturally around a table. And thank you, E, for another incredible photo -- your choices are always perfect. Mercado on St. Clair is a hidden gem. What was once beside my mom's flower shop downtown has now found a home in a slightly more industrial setting on Caledonia -- and somehow, it works perfectly. Cozy seating inside, a great covered patio outside, and that village-style European restaurant vibe you hope to stumble across. First off, the waiter was phenomenal. He walked us through the menu, explained everything perfectly, and genuinely elevated the whole experience. The menu is massive -- meat, seafood, everything you could want -- but we came for the paella. We were told it takes time because they make it the proper way. Not overly crispy, just authentic, rich, and layered with flavour. Worth every minute of the wait. To start, we had the gambas / shrimp in a rich red garlic and herb sauce plus extra toasted bread for dipping, per our waiter's recommendation. Absolute rockstar move. The other appetizer was a delicious beef stew served over crunchy rustic bread. Simple, hearty, and top notch. Now... drum roll please. This may have been the best paella I've ever had. Okay okay, maybe somewhere along the coast in Spain I've had one fresher... but this was absolutely off the charts. Zero fishy smell. Just beautiful saffron-infused rice with that perfect slight crisp, loaded with mussels, clams, octopus, calamari, shrimp, and more. Built for two people to share and completely unforgettable. A few glasses of house white later and bam - there was absolutely no chance I was going back to work. And dessert? I kept telling myself: "No dessert, Frank. No dessert." But there's a rule in life ; if you see crème brûlée on a menu, you order it. This wasn't exactly crème brûlée, but a cheesecake-inspired version of it. Two spoons, four bites, and thank you very much. Favourite meal of the year so far. Completely blown away by this place. Mercatto -- go now. Go fast.

The "#1 fish and chips" signage caught our eyes so we ran in and let them prove it. Which they did. You can choose whatever fish ($10-$15), but the fish of the day is $9 (today it was haddock). Portion is large and great for lunch if you're hungry. Batter on the fish is perfectly light, crisp, and not as oily-seeming as it probably is. The owner/chef asked us what level of crispiness we wanted our fries to be, and I said "ummm...medium?", which is clearly the right answer because the fries were delicious. Accompany with your choice of ketchup, malt vinegar, lemon, tartar sauce, or all of the above. The owner's son was enjoying the same thing for lunch next to us. If you don't feel like going fried, everything can instead be grilled with a salad for the same price. There are also lobster rolls and fish tacos, which will definitely be my order on my next visit, which I hope is as soon as I'm physically able to eat again, which at the moment feels like never. There's also plenty of fresh seafood for sale, platters for events, and catering. Lots of happy regulars were stopping in to pick up food so obviously I'm just late to the game.

A comforting brunch at Bonjuk Canada - perfect when you're not feeling 100%…read more My partner and I finally sat down for a proper brunch at Bonjuk this afternoon, and it was exactly the kind of meal we needed. I've been dealing with some dental pain, and my partner is just getting over a nasty cold, so we wanted something gentle, nourishing, and easy on the body - not a heavy, greasy brunch. Bonjuk's whole vibe of "comfort food with heart" really delivered. We'd only done takeout before, so this was our first time dining in. The space is small but really welcoming - warm lighting, clean and simple decor, and comfortable seating that makes you want to slow down and relax. It's not a huge place, so there aren't tons of indoor seats, but that also gives it a cozy, intimate feel. Service was friendly and low‑pressure, which we appreciated when we were both feeling a bit under the weather. We ordered the Chicken Porridge ($23) and the Beef Bulgogi Bibimbap ($24), both for dine‑in (prices don't include tax and tip). The chicken porridge was savoury, and soothing, with a rich broth that felt healing without being heavy. It was easy to eat with my sore teeth and left me feeling comforted, not stuffed. The beef bulgogi bibimbap was a nice contrast - colourful, fresh, and full of flavour. The bulgogi was sweet, the rice was perfectly cooked, and the mix of veggies and egg made it feel like a balanced, healthy meal. It's definitely a step up from typical brunch fare if you're looking for something lighter but still satisfying. One thing that really stood out was their baby porridge menu. It's such a thoughtful touch - separate, gentle, low‑salt options for little ones. As someone who's seen new parents struggle to find safe, easy meals out, this felt genuinely helpful and kind. It's easy to see why their marketing feels like they actually care about making food that's good for people, not just trendy. If you're looking for the best value, I'd say go for takeaway. We noticed a steady stream of takeout orders, and the overall costs are slightly lower that way, especially when there are discounts offered by different order platform. Overall, Bonjuk Canada is a good spot when you want something comforting, healthy, and easy on the stomach - whether you're recovering from illness, have dental issues, or just want a more mindful brunch.

The eggs benedict like the TPA and GTA is tried and true and are the most popular. So if you want to be safe, that is a tempting option. However, we went for something unique to Hazel's instead we got: - Hazel's hash $16 - The peppers, jalapenos, and chorizo make this dish pack full of flavour and lighter and more unique than just eggs with potatoes. I mean, they put their name on it, so it's good! - Caker $15 - I didn't expect I'll like the Caker as much as I did. The sweet and savoury works! I love the moist pancake drizzled with some maple syrup. I'm usually not a big fan of plain bacon since it can get overly salty, but the combination with egg and pancake balances the flavours here, making it super comforting. Laaren, who took our call and served us, was full of energy and friendly, which tops the whole experience. We asked and learned more about him and found out it's just his first month at work. I'm glad people are getting back to work with the reopening of Toronto. As you sit down, you can smell the faint scent of lemon, so it seems like the area is diligently sanitized after each seating. I see complete COVID-19 protocols and signs in place. All servers are masked, and we were adequately socially distanced.
