A good place to try out a variety of foods! The seafood boil was seasoned perfectly, and the fried rice even had a bit of wokhei. The rice was useful to soak up the extra yummy sauce. Out of the seafoods, mussels were my personal favourite. They were plump and tender, holding onto the sauce in their shells, creating tasty mouthfuls. Portions were more generous than initially met the eye -- as we ate, we did quickly become full. A downside is that warm/hot things are served in plastic bags. Mmmm yummy micro plastics... And the tables and washroom were not the cleanliest. I loved the decor of the place. Interesting art to look at, and splashes of colour here and there. Lots of tables. On a hot, sunny day, I visited The Captain's Boil with friends for some seafood, and I have to say, I had a great time. From the outside, the familiar black-and-white sign was clean but showed signs of age, with faint white streaks suggesting that the exterior could use a refresh. Inside, we were greeted by a wall of colourful sticky notes, adding a fun touch to the dark, brick-lined interior. I also appreciated the nearby sink, making it easy to wash our hands without heading to the bathroom. It was definitely convenient. After being seated, the menu left much to be desired. It showed its age, with white scratches that made it hard to read the items. The ordering system was not intuitive for a first-time visitor, so we had to rely on our server for guidance. Also, the drinks menu looked like a printout from Excel, which was small, hard to read and, unfortunately, overpriced. We ordered the Matey's Feast along with another order of seafood, which was a generous meal for three people. Matey's Feast is one of their set meals that allowed us to choose two types of seafood, along with a variety of sides. Each boil also came with two regular sides, which was a nice touch. We went with Captain's Boil seasoning at medium spice, which was just right for enjoying the seafood. The boils arrived in clear bags, and we had to take them out of the bag and eat by hand. Shrimp Basket: A hot and crispy appetizer served on a bed of Cajun fries, which really whetted my appetite. The tartar sauce and ketchup on the side complemented the crunch. Captain's Fried Rice with Seafood: A simple but tasty plate of rice with shrimp. We added some of the sauce from the seafood boils for extra flavour. It was filling. Seafood Boils: Each bag of seafood was packed with seasoning and came with disposable gloves so we could dig in with our hands. The clams were cooked perfectly, with just the right amount of spices. The shrimp required a bit more work, with the heads and shells needing to be removed, but they were large and fresh, making it worth the effort. The extra sauce in each bag was perfect for drenching our sides or adding more flavour to the fried rice. Sides: We chose corn for the regular sides and sausage for the premium side. Corns were quarter-length cobs of corn and the sausages were served sliced. We tossed both into the seafood boil bags to soak up the spicy sauce, making them even more enjoyable. The service was adequate, with staff checking in occasionally to ensure we had everything we needed. The washroom, located downstairs, was not spotless but still serviceable. In terms of value, I found the pricing to be on the higher side. The drinks, at $4 each, were refillable but expensive considering I only had two cups. Given that it's a seafood restaurant, higher prices were expected, but I appreciated that sides like fries and fried rice helped fill us up. Overall, I had a good time. My rating of 3 reflects the tricky ordering process and steep prices, but the food was definitely enjoyable, and I left feeling full. Horrible experience We made a reservation and still had to wait 10 more minutes when we entered into the restaurant. There was a table free, but it's like they didn't want to clear it, which is fine. We weren't upset when we were seated our server, didn't come back for a good next 20 minutes. Our server was straight to the point didn't care to introduce himself. Didn't really want to explain anything on the menu or offer us anything more when we were inquiring about different foods, which is fine our order was missing a side of calamari and literally every side with the seafood so the corn potatoes and etc., even extra sides that we ordered were missing. We thought they come separately so we were waiting, but we got so hungry. We just started eating the gloves they gave us. We didn't get a bucket, never inquired about anything. Our server didn't come back to ask us if we needed anymore assistance or anything we had to pull another server to the side and ask them if we still going to get our calamari in our sides and she implies that came in with the seafood bag. We just didn't know how it worked. We never been there and you would think someone that works. There would know what they're doing, but that's OK. Things happen so we asked for our sides but this is how I know our server which was a male was out to get us when my friend kindly asked for some water and our server proceeds to give her hot water on purpose when my friend turned around and shocked to look for the server he gave her a dead blank stare with a little grin. At that point we just wanted to go we asked the server that was supposed to give us our sides, which by the way didn't come another 10 minutes pass by we just asked for the check and told her we don't want the sides anymore. We just wanna go. Our server, which was the mail gives us our bill and I see that the sides are still on there. He proceeds to say it's a part of the package and then we said OK just give us the sides and then he proceeds with a lot of attitude to say well you are the one that sent the sides back, our food was already halfway done lol we just paid and ran out. I think the service in here is disgusting and the server that served us purposely had a problem with us. He was so kind of everybody else in the restaurant besides me and my friend all servers were amazing everybody else besides me and my friend and we didn't come in there. Complaining are making attitude are doing anything rude, we were kind and we still got treated like garbage. I think this change should be embarrassed of their selves. The manager should be embarrassed, and the guy serving us should be fired giving my friend hot water is evil and disgusting. He knew what he was doing and honestly, I don't even trust the food the way they were acting if you guys want sass and attitude with your food then yeah eat here. read more

First post on Yelp - ever. (That's how angry I was after this experience) First time at a Captain's Boil (Name titled aptly). Was SO looking forward to it. Then I walked in. First off, the menus were unclean (to the point that they were illegible in some parts) - same as the men's room (stank all the way up the stairs plus the flusher for the toilet was hanging off). Then the waiter came, (never had crawfish before) so I asked if they taste like lobster. He said, "I wouldn't know, because I'm allergic to shellfish." What the hell? Then y r u working here?!? Then the chef marched out of the kitchen and specifically told me "Yes! They do!!" Great! I thought. I proceeded to order the sample platter with 2 sides (I ordered the steamed rice and corn). I was told (online) that crawfish r bigger than shrimp but on arrival they looked like they've been C-sectioned out of their mothers - they were so small. As for the flavour - I would compare them to wet dog food (if I hated my dog and wanted them to die), definitely NOT akin to lobster. Their sauces WERE tasty, but I went there for seafood not sauces. The calamari was good, however the rice was placed directly on the hot plate so the bottom was burnt black and the corn (as the second side) consisted of 7-8 pieces of cooked kernels mixed in with the torched rice. I'm addition, the only cutlery we were given was one tiny fork whose main purpose was to remove crab meat from crab claws - entirely insufficient for scooping rice (burnt or otherwise) into one's mouth. The most disturbing part of all this torture was that even after I brought all this to the waiter's attention, his reaction was perfunctory - as if he had been fielding complaints for a long while. This is my second captains boil experience and after a disappointing previous one, I was excited to try this place out. We got seated right away and ended up ordering a pound of the crawfish with lemon garlic sauce, pound of shrimp with captain boils sauce and a pound mix and match of the shrimp and clams with the boil sauce. Make sure you look at the signs for market prices to know how much it costs. The boils sauce is definitely the star here and quite addicting! It was salty with the perfect hint of spice to it. The lemon one was too salty so I won't be getting it next time. The crawfish was decent, a little pricey for the amount of meat. However, the shrimp was amazing and definitely worth the money. I would solely just get the shrimp next time. The sides were okay and quite small so definitely something you shouldn't order on its own as it was pricey. Overall a decent experience! read more

The Captains Boil was more than amazing. The waiter (we don't remember his name but he was very nice ) was very good with letting me and my daughters take our time when ordering. The food came out within a total of 20-25 minutes or so. The wait wasn't much of a hassle as each of our meals came out at different time. They played great music and low enough for us to still hear the music and each other this made our time much more enjoyable. We order two seafood boils and the fried rice. This is my first visit to this seafood restaurant, and i was completely satisfied with the experience. The service was extremely good, welcoming staff and very friendly. The place was very clean and it wasn't as busy though it was a weekend. I have tried the lobster with special sauce, clams with lemon pepper sauce, cajun fries and cajun fried rice, all mild heat. Every item was delicious, perfectly cooked and freshly made. I loved the cajun fries and I believe it s my favorite, we couldn't finish the fried rice with seafood, the next day it was even better. Such a fun and different way of eating your food! Your given a bib and gloves to eat your meal, which is served inside a bag with the sauce of your choice. If anyone's ever been to The Boiling Crab in Los Angeles it's pretty comparable. If you like spicy I would recommend the 'fire' heat choice. DEEEELICIOUS!!!! I highly recommend this place to anyone in the city. Rich with flavour! We went with the captain's boil sauce which combines all 3 sauces and that was an excellent choice! My friend ordered mussels (I ate most of it) and I ordered the rice and seafood plate. Yum Yum Yum!!!! My only qualm is that one of the mussels had sand or something in it but given that I ate over 8 of them without issue, I will let that one slide. Highly recommended! Love the vibe and that people ate with hands etc. This is easily a tourist attraction, IMO. Very different vibe and very delish. read more

I ordered online and picked up my order at the Captains Boil at 2655 Yonge St which was not the 1st order maybe the 10th never less than $100 and this one was more than $250 and I was very disappointed and angry when i got home to see that there were items missing. Didn't get my order right, asked them to deliver the missing items to my home and they refused and I live about 5 minutes from the restaurant but i couldn't come back to the restaurant because had 2 small children that I could not leave. This is the 3rd Captain's Boil location at which we have eaten. The Bayview location is good. We did not enjoy our meals at the York Mills location. However this location on Yonge was the best so far. The lobster comes in a bowl rather than a bag and this is a big improvement. The Captain's Bowl seasoning is my favourite but others enjoyed lemon pepper or just plain steamed. The sides are large enough to share for two or three people. It's not inexpensive with an average cost of $55+ not including starters or desserts. But lobster is generally not cheap and the meal was very enjoyable. read more

We had a rather unsatisfactory lunch here. On the plus side, the server was very cheerful and welcoming, the restaurant was very clean and the decor was cute. The food took a long time even though there was only one other person waiting at the time. My companion was served his meal first and mine came about 15 minutes later! I cannot remember this ever happening to us in a restaurant before! The server never came over to us to say anything about it and made no comment when she did bring my plate. The food was just okay and the portions were very skimpy. When we left, after paying $40 for two appetizer size lunches and one beer, we were both still hungry. Had an exceptional experience with Marco as our server. The Asian girl who greeted us initially was very nice and friendly as well but I didn't catch her name! Marco noticed we were struggling to choose our food and offered his advice to help our table of 4 split food without over buying. He checked up on us just enough to make sure garbage wasn't building up, made sure the food was tasting good, and to refill our drinks. All that was needed without pushing it. Unlike other experiences in other restaurants, he gave us our space- saving the embarrassment of having a full mouth with sauce rolling down our face, nodding that we're doing okay. My boyfriend and I were so impressed we both said "wow" at the same time. We can tell he truly cared about our experience and he was very genuine, patient, and caring. I hope he gets a raise or some sort of recognition. All servers should be like him! I'm glad I took my family to this location, we'll be coming back one day.
