Rob Tamaela at Tamaela Mortgage was the best choice I made in purchasing a home. Rob was immediately responsive to me regardless of the day or the hour or whether the man is even on vacation or not. From before I even decided to use him asking him hours of questions at Starbucks to the very last day and beyond. I was referred to Rob about 2 years ago when I was looking to refinance my condo. When I purchased my place in 2007, I went through a first time home-buying program that provided loan assistance. I was able to get a city loan and a loan from the program with a low interest rate that I did not have to pay until after 30 years or when I sell my place. I only had to pay my first two mortgages which had a higher interest rate. Since I really wanted to get out of my parents' house and didn't want to rent, I jumped at the opportunity to purchase my first home at a new construction on First Hill. Well after some time the interest was adding up on those deferred loans and I needed to get out of it because I was close to owing more on these loans than what I purchased my place for. After sending Rob all of my loan notes, it took him about 2 hours to respond back. He let me know that after examining everything it would be in my best interest to stick to my current loans and provided a list of reasons detailing why he felt it wasn't a good time. It all made perfect sense, and I really appreciate his honest feedback and it didn't cost me a dime. I really respect him for that. Although our communications have primarily been by email, he was very responsive and kind. I felt he was a very caring person who is passionate about helping people. I kept his contact information just in case. Just recently when I heard how low interest rates were for refinancing, I reached out to Rob again to see if this would be a better time for my situation. He was professional and helpful as I would expect. I sent him all of my updated loan information and after he examined everything, he said this time would be a good time to refinance. He laid out all of my options and listed the pros and cons, and answered all of my hundreds of questions. Having never dealt with the traditional mortgage process until recently, I had no idea what was ahead of me. Probably like many others not familiar with the process, I began shopping for a house before I had all my "ducks in a row" relative to the financing piece of the process. After a relatively short search, my girlfriend and I found what we considered a perfect fit for our situation. I knew enough about the process to realize I didn't have an infinite amount of time to get the financing in place before the property would no longer be available. I knew a good realtor to help me broker the deal on the house, but I didn't have anyone specific in mind to help me with the mortgage end of the process. I only knew I needed to get moving quickly. I'm a very private person to begin with. This coupled with credit issues dating back a few years made privacy a requirement. I wanted pre-qualification feedback from someone that knew nothing about me before I got too deep into the process. I was looking to consult with a mortgage professional that I didn't know personally, that wasn't local to where I live, and that wouldn't have a clue about who I am. I had heard Rob's adds on the radio and thought perfect, I'll probably be one of a thousand calls that day. I'll get the feedback I desire and then never have any communication with this company again. If the pre-quall feedback was positive, I would then do my research and find someone more local to where I live and go through the mortgage process with them. I was very surprised when I called and Rob answered the phone himself. I was fully expecting to talk with an assistant. As I talked with Rob and provided the information he was requesting, I got a very positive vibe from him. I've heard the horror stories of high-pressure and sleazy "Mortgage Guys" and was expecting as much. I can tell when someone is "BS-ing" me and I was confident from the start that Rob wasn't that guy. Not only was my first impression of Rob positive, the initial pre-qualification feedback he provide gave me confidence that I could make this whole thing work. Rather than following my original plan and finding a broker close to where I live, I took the next step with Rob and started looking at products he could provide. I put Rob in touch with my realtor and got positive feedback from him as well. At this point, I was pre-qualified and felt comfortable enough to make an offer on the house I was looking at but I still hadn't provided Rob with all the documentation he needed to move forward with formalizing the financing. Over the next couple of days, I began providing Rob the documents he requested. At every step along the way, Rob was personally available to answer my questions and provide clarification in a timely manner. This is where things got crazy for me, especially when my offer was accepted. As I was compiling the documents that the process requires and getting them to Rob, I still needed to raise my credit score in order to get the interest rate I was targeting. Rob did some magic with a simulator and was able to tell me exactly how much credit card debt I would need to pay down in order to raise my credit score and secure the loan at the rate I was looking for. Not only did I have to pay down the existing debt, but I had to coordinate with credit card companies in a timely manner and get a rapid rescore done prior to finalizing the loan application. These things all take time and the clock was ticking if we were going to make the closing date. Rob took care of the whole rescore process for me. I was amazed when it was all said and done and Rob had been exactly right on his projections. Through the process, I did consult with other mortgage companies locally. Although they could provide competitive products, they didn't give me the same level of trust and confidence that Rob was able to provide. We did have a number of challenges along the way, but Rob was always very knowledgeable, responsive, strategic and sound in his problem solving advice.
