They have an amazing variety of Indian dishes (both vegetarian and non-vegetarian); whether you're a beef/lamb-lover, chicken-lover or seafood-lover, you'll find great options on their menu. They also have a full bar, offering beer, wine and creative cocktails. We ordered some of their specialties: "MALAI METHI MURGH", "OLD DELHI BUTTER CHICKEN", "PUNJABI MUTTON", "LAMB ROGANJOSH", "TAMARIND CHICKEN PLATTER" and paired them with "PANEER KULCHA" and "KEEMA NAAN". Nice ambience, small place which was very tight and compact they had a live singer, which was amazing on Friday night and their food is very good which is why they're so busy. The grill platter was really really good and good value. Pani puri shots were delicious however, apparently the soy dish in the appetizers is phenomenal which I will try next time and was recommended by a friend, the butter chicken is also really good. It had been a while since we went to a good Indian restaurant so we decided to head over to this place. They're known for their live music, and presentation and quality of food and I'll say they mostly didn't disappoint in those two areas. However, the service was definitely not the best - we didn't get water until halfway across our main course even after asking for it. There was one guy who heard all our requests, nodded, and completely forgot about that request which was typically odd. Anyway, coming to food we tried most of their appetizers from fish tikka, chicken momos, chicken chettinad tacos and the showstopper of the evening, their gol gappe with classic water. This was amazing! I also liked the fish tikka but the other appetizers were not worth it. We tried their Kohinoor fizz mocktail which had mango, ginger ale and grenadine in it and loved how it tasted. We ordered butter naan, rumali roti, butter chicken and dal makhani for main course and the butter naan and butter chicken was really good. The dal makhani was average but the rumali roti was cold which was disappointing. The prices are on the mid to higher range so I'd probably not be frequenting this place but it's a good restaurant for date nights and sudden Indian cravings once in a while. read more

We were on a North Indian food tour while in Toronto for 2 full days this week. It was a lot of fun trying the excellent choices and options in the area. Tamarind was a lunch stop on Day 2. They have an interesting variety and fusion-ish concept. We tried a lot of appetizers, including paneer bao, paneer taco, kulcha chana, chili paneer, and manchurian. I think the paneer bao and taco were ok. The chili paneer and manchurian were good. I can't say the same for the kulcha. Oh, not to forget the gol gappa shots. Awesome presentation on those with the gole gappa on top of a shot glass that come in a big tray with some dry ice smoke action. Then for the mains we had paneer and dal makhani, which were our standard test at each restaurant on the tour. The dal at Tamarind was really good. I would say that it was very rich and creamy, which made it a bit less the winning dal entry. The paneer makhani was good as well. Garlic naan and all were fine. Incredible food, atmosphere and service! My friend and I ordered an assortment of dishes and enjoyed eating family style. My chicken tikka masala was perfect with just the right amount of spice. I got the Cyrus Irani mocktail and OH MY GOSH.. it was so refreshing and delicious. I highly recommend trying it. You can tell this place has a lot of regulars. Read the reviews before going and went with the high ratings when placing my order. The restaurant had a good amount of patrons there when I went to pick up my food. Observed the restaurant to be spacious inside with a fairly decent sized patio. Two guys by the podium were seating people. One had an oversized mask draping his mouth and chin and the other had a mask on his chin. From time to time, they'd pull them up. Mostly when seating customers inside the dining area. The servers and bartender were fully masked. The guys in the kitchen were out of view, so I couldn't see if they were covered. The guy packing to go orders had the same problem as the other two men above, wearing his mask as a chin-strap. His hands would touch his face and mask and then food. Even though food was wrapped, bagged and in containers, it didn't feel very hygienic. I was put off by the whole scene. Onto the food. I ordered Butter chicken. The sauce was semi-sweet, creamy and mildly spiced even though I asked for medium spice. The chicken pieces were generous and had been skewered as another person said. Seemed like the chicken was cooked in a tandoor, which would normally bring out its authentic flavour except that the chicken, while tender, lacked seasoning. It was super bland. I added salt but that didn't do anything. I also ordered garlic naan and was seriously disappointed! Large in size and also lacking flavour. It was so oily and slightly burnt. All in all, if I wanted to be disappointed, I would have attempted to make butter chicken myself. I don't know if it was a bad night but this place did not deliver on any front. Tamarind has familiar dishes most popular in Indian restaurants everywhere, but they also include offerings from across the Indian landscape of cuisine. The onion stuffed kulcha bread and the butter chicken are obviously from the Northern areas of Punjab and Delhi respectively. The kulcha flat bread is huge and one piece is more than enough for a personal portion that can be used to sop up the curries. Plenty of cooked onions line the soft and chewy center of the bread that is crisped on the bottom and ends and finished in a tandoor oven. The butter chicken was the best I've had in a long while. The tiny holes in the meat itself let me know that the chicken pieces were skewered and spent some quality time in a blazing hot tandoor, before being tossed into a simmering sauce finished with tomatoes, cream and no shortage of real butter. It was moist and not dry one bit. I tried a portion of the tamarind flavored rice, an offering usually associated with the cuisine of southern India, and also because it was a namesake of the restaurant itself. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy this dish. I do realize the flavor of tamarind is inherently sour by nature, but in renditions perfected in other establishments in my experience, the sour taste is usually offset by heat, or the addition of other spices or ingredients. This dish wasn't. The kulfi flavored falooda drink was tasty and thirst quenching. Lots of vermicelli and ice cream to end the meal on a sweet and high note. read more

Came to attend a party and was hoping for a nicer experience than I had. The main dining room looked decent but we were in the party room. Our hosts did a lovely job with the decor but the room itself seemed run down with wall sconces that were flickering, a giant AC unit blowing air at people's head when walking by or taking pictures and chairs that were too big (but comfy). I arrived just before 6 pm and used the washroom (very disappointing) which was too dark and did not have toilet paper in 2/4 stalls. I reported the lack of toilet paper right away. Around 8 pm my friend went to the washroom and said there still wasn't any toilet paper in the first 2 stalls!! With a party of about 60 women that should have been addressed right away! There was not a lot of vegan/gluten free food but that may have just been what was served by our hosts. I didn't check the menu to see if they actually have more options. Staff were friendly but clueless at times.... Removed our water glasses as per photographer but never brought them back until we asked 3 times. Then they brought glasses but all the water was finished. Simple things that should not have needed requesting more than once. I really liked the Pani puri shots which was so flavorful as well as dahi ke kebab which was crunchy on the outside and so creamy and delicate inside. The breads were amazing and so were the drinks. Service was a little slow even though the restaurant wasn't as busy. The loud music also seemed out of place for a fine dine place. Amazing Indian food in the heart of Mississauga, Ontario. So many good things to say. Cuisine can be best described as Indian with some Asian flair. Tried too many dishes to list them all. A couple of highlights were the Gobi Chili (General Zso's Cauliflower), Chili chicken, butter chicken, Kulcha (Naan stuffed with sautéed onions), and the Indian crème brûlée. Walking in we were greeted with really friendly staff, the atmosphere inside and on the patio was super chill with music playing Without further ado, onto the food! We got the following: - Chef's sizzler (assorted grilled meat: chef's choice) I believe ours consisted of tandoori chicken, grilled fish and grilled lamb - Butter chicken and tandoori naan - Chicken tikka sliders - G.O.A.T tacos - Pani Puri/Gol Gappe shots My favourite favourite app had to be the goat tacos, the goat was so tender and spicy balanced out with pickled carrots and their house sauce The chicken tikka sliders in my opinion weren't as spicy as I thought they'd be so it would definitely be an option for someone who would want something with flavour but not that crazy spice! The butter chicken was just perfect, I have to get butter chicken at every Indian restaurant I go to and they really did it justice. The tomatoey to creamy ratio was sooooo perfect, just the way I like it. The sizzler was literally smoking and had that perfectly grilled yet juicy flavour to it. Last but not the least the pani puri shots were so creative and innovative lol I never thought I'd eat my favourite street food snack as shot but hey I'm here for it! Loved how they've incorporated all my childhood favourite meals with different cuisines I only got to experience once I came to Canada, absolutely love the diversity and fusion that was displayed in their dishes. Best Indian food I have eaten in a long time. It would be great if they could ask spice level while ordering but the food was exceptional.

The food was absolutely preposterous. We ordered momos but instead it looked like samosas covered in red paint. The other things we ordered all had a little bit too much of some thing or a little bit too less. The food was also not sieved hot and fresh either. read more

I visited this spot with my family the other day, and I had an overall enjoyable experience. Most items were quite good, although there were a few dishes I was slightly disappointed with. To start, I ordered the salted lassi as my drink, and it was made very well. For appetizers, we ordered the pani puri shots, tandoori momos and crispy chili gobi. I loved the pani puri shots, the pani that they came with was delicious and super flavorful. It also came in the cutest presentation, with the puris sitting on top of shot glasses. The gobi was delicious as well, it was fresh and crispy, coated in a yummy chili sauce. My family and I were not a huge fan of the momos; I didn't get much of a tandoori taste from them, and I was not a huge fan of the veggie filling they came with. For the main dishes, we ordered the old Delhi butter chicken, palak paneer, and baingan ka bhartha. I thought the butter chicken was decent, but not my favorite. The palak paneer was good too, but my favorite was probably the baingan ka bhartha; it was very flavorful and a little smoky. For breads we ordered the garlic naan, which is always yummy, and we tried the laccha parantha. The parantha wasn't bad, but VERY heavy with all the mains, and I was full after eating just one small piece. I would probably just order the naan next time. Lastly, we ordered the dum ki biryani which was served inside a dish that was covered by a flatbread similar to roti. The presentation looked very interesting, and the biryani came out of it piping hot. The biryani itself was very strongly flavoured and had a good amount of spice to it. I feel I was overall satisfied with my experience at Tamarind. I mean if they don't want to respect theri customers atleast don't disrespect them. They have a nice outdoor patio that looks like downtown Toronto. They did a good job despite being in a suburban office building. Great ambiance and food and the drinks are great. The bartender can recommend mocktails for those who don't drink. read more

I went to this place yesterday for a business lunch. Due to time limitations we went straight to the main dishes and skipped the appetizers. We ordered the Lamb Nihari ( slow braised) and the Chicken Kadai along with Garlic bread. All dishes were outstanding and the service was excellent. When we requested the server to have the Lamb deboned to make it easy for us to share the plate, she was courteous and professional and got it done in a minute. This location used to have the Host Restaurant and after it closed dorm during the pandemic, It was rebranded as the Tamarind under new ownership. Apparently the chef and kitchen staff remained. Host always had reliably good Indian food so in that respect I expect Tamarind to carry on with the good work. read more

Recently tried out the rebranded Tamarind restaurant and I tried so many delicious things that were so full of flavour. My favourite dishes of the night were the pani puri shots and the butter chicken. Another standout dish is the Tandoori Konkan Shrimp which is served on a sizzling plate. The shrimp were huge and so tasty. Parking is free after 6PM and can be validated during the day. They have a lunch buffet which I have to go back and try. I don't really like to write bad reviews, but this one's necessary. We were a group of 17 people all vegetarians, so we expected the service to be slow so won't judge on that. It's a restaurant with an average table of 4-6 guest so a big table like our is hard to get right. We started off with their Tandoori Momos and Vegetable & Kale Seekh kabab. The Tandoori Momos were ordinary, nothing special. The sauce that coated the momos had no flavor at all. But I loved the Vegetable & Kale Seekh Kabab. For main course we ordered Tawa Paneer Masala- it was yellow! YES! YELLOW!! Didn't taste like tawa paneer at all, the gravy was quite runny but the quality of paneer was good. Vegetable Jalfrezi- This was inedible, it was a bunch of vegetables tossed in tomato puree, CANNED TOMATO PUREE! It was sour to another level. We left it and no one had to courage to even pack it. Vegetable Dum ki Biryani- It was decent, good flavors but just a bit dry. Naan- This was the best of the lot, it was soft and fluffy. Full marks to the Tandoor Chef. I hosted lunch for 24 guests with fixed menu and everything from starters to main course and desserts were all tasty. As you enter Tamarind Bistro you are immediately welcomed by staff which is terrific. The food is delicious and well-spiced, especially panipuri shots, tandoori chicken, Bhuna gosht (goat), chicken biryani and so much more.
