We checked out Rikki Tikki in Kensington market last week. If you are looking for quality, wonderfully flavored Indian food, go no further. Nice modern decor. Comfy seating with an outside patio too. They are fully licensed. We had the lamb shank and chicken korma. Soooo good. Had the rice pulao and bean and enjoyed one of the best mango lassi we ever had. Quality ingredients. Price is $$ scale. I ordered samosas, shrimp biryani (spicy) and Naan. All were absolutely delicious. The samosas were flaky, perfectly fried, with a good potato filling. I'm no expert in Indian cuisine but I would think I eat enough to know what's good. This biryani may be the best I've had. The basmari rice is perfectly cooked, and seasoned so well. It was tossed with nuts and persimmon seeds, which were a delicious inclusion. The shrimp were a good size (tails off), well-seasoned. I got "spicy" on a scale of mild to very spicy, I like spicy food and also know Indian spicy is another level. The service was pleasant, attentive and not rushing. And! Stopped by on a Friday night and it was pretty busy with maybe 1-2 empty tables. I've heard really good things about Rikki Tikki and have been waiting months to dine here. Ordered butter chicken, regular naan, garlic naan and an appetizer made of cauliflower(?). Also ordered a few drinks and all of them are pretty strong! The staff are friendly and dropped by once or twice to check up on us. All in all, a great place to dine. Our server was very friendly & helped us pick great dishes to order as it was our first time there. They have a nice indoor-outdoor seating area, pretty lively as well. Had a really great meal recently and loved that there is a solid Indian option in the Kensington Market area. We had the Saag Paneer, Dal Makhani, Butter Naan and an order of Rice. We ordered both dishes as a medium spice, but the Dal was definitely spicier than the Saag Paneer. Both were delicious and so full of flavor. We were seated almost immediately and the service was attentive, warm and friendly. We tried a host of things from their menu. The Mango Delight mocktail was a refreshing drink reminded me of a mango drink I grew up drinking in India. The Coconut on the Beach rum based cocktail was another fun drink that instantly transports one to a tropical beach! For appetizers we tried the Mix Veg Platter and the Chilli Shrimp the former being my pick. Jumbo shrimp batter fried and coated in a sweet spicy sauce - absolutely delicious! We tried the Hyderabadi lamb curry and Paneer Kadhai for mains with naan. The Veg Biryani was studded with pomegranate, dry fruits and was an absolute delight to savour! Found this place on Yelp and was so excited to try it. We originally came for the $10 lunch special but unfortunately that ended so we decided to split some of the larger dishes. My siblings and I shared the paneer tikki fries ($9.95), chicken tikka masala ($14.95), and dal makhani ($11.95). The paneer tikki fries are like the Indian version of poutine with their delicious and rich butter sauce and pieces of paneer on top. There was also some shredded cheese and with the hot crispy fries, everything was hot and great together. The chicken tikka masala was also delicious, cooked in a rich fenugreek-flavoured tomato gravy with a healthy amount of bell peppers and onions. The dal makhani was also fantastic - super rich and creamy and hearty with the whole black lentils and red kidney beans. We got garlic naan ($3.5) and roti ($2.5) and they were fresh and hot. This was actually the first time I tried authentic and fusion Indian food and it won't be my last. Service was great. Washrooms were clean. The whole restaurant is spacious with lots of seating and the ambience feels pretty polished. There weren't that many people eating during lunch time. I would say the food was average. We ordered the veg and meat platters to start and we were honestly shocked by how small the portions were. I don't think the food here is worth the prices. I may be spoiled because I've tried incredible food in Brampton but I do think Toronto has cheaper indian food that may even be greater quality. I will say the service was incredible! I sincerely do not know if I missed a note on the menu or if this is the norm for Toronto, but I was pretty shocked and a little dismayed. Luckily there was a place near our hotel that sold rice so we were able to eat it but it made a good experience a bit of a confusing one. What a great experience! Five of us wanted to try another restaurant next door but it was closed so we ended up trying Rikki Tikki. The drink menu could use a revision. They had three special cocktails outside of the core menu but my friends didn't quite like them. We ordered the Paneer Tikka Fries and Chef's mix platter to start and it was perfect! The fries were so crispy and the chutney from the platter helped add a little zing. For our mains we got the garlic naan, laccha paratha, lamb biryani, butter chicken and dal makhani. We licked the dishes clean. The lamb biryani was divine and it comes with raita. The spice level was good - flavor but no overkill. I also loved how cute the place was! Dim lighting, cute little bar, comfortable seating. Overall an excellent impromptu visit! One piece of feedback - the server was trying to upsell on one more app and one more curry but we knew our appetite. Maybe not be so pushy? Also, they're going to enforce a $25 per guest rule not including alcohol. But to be fair all that food plus one drink came up to $48 per person with tax and tip so not bad at all considering we had to roll out of there. Good times read more

I read an article about this restaurant and bookmarked it to visit in the near future. I was really excited to have dinner here with my friend. The place was clean and modern- the walls are white to create an open space and the furnitures are dark brown/black to create a modern look. Our server was a young lady who greeted us warmly and told us that there is an online menu (scan QR code) and a paper copy menu (includes items that are not on the online menu). We looked at the menus and ordered aloo gobi (potatoes and cauliflower cooked in North Indian-style gravy), butter chicken, rice pilaf, and butter naan. Both main dishes were delicious- vegetables in aloo gobi were cooked thoroughly and fresh, my friend said the chicken pieces in butter chicken were juicy and had the right amount of spice! The rice was warm and fresh, and the butter naan was soft and chewy. This relatively new spot in Kensington is a great new addition to the food landscape of the market! It's in the Italian place that was connected with their restaurant across the street and it never really took off. I hadn't been in there before it closed. But Rikki Tikki is there now and no complaints! Since there is a big patio space in front of the doorway, there is not much to draw you in. But add a big sandwich board advertising lunch specials for $10 and hey, you got me Rikki. It was a very satisfying lunch and had an upscale feeling to it with the nice china cup for my Americano, classy service, and gorgeous bar to feast your eyes on when eating there. There are plenty of tables and it's quite roomy so bring your friends. It's good for a large family gathering and I'm sure they can handle you quite well. When I was in having my lunch a woman came in and was showing and describing something to the staff that she had for them. Curiosity got the better of me and I asked what they were up to. It turns out she was part of the House of Spice across the street and good friends with the staff. She had some kind of spice for them which was a cool move. She also said that since they opened a few months ago, she had been there for lunch EVERY DAY! It was just that good she said, and raved about the vegan option for lunch. We had the pleasure of dining at Rikki Tikki on a Saturday night with a group of friends. This restaurant is new. We chose to sit outside, and not only did we enjoy great food, but we also witnessed a unique show. We saw someone being chased for stealing from another person, and a couple of homeless individuals approached us asking for food. I don't blame the restaurant for this since it seemed these homeless individuals were approaching many places, so I won't hold it against them. I am giving this restaurant five stars because our server, Rashmi, was very accommodating, and the food was excellent. We ordered chicken tikka masala, lamb Rogan Josh, 555 chicken for appetizers, and a few vegetarian dishes that were delicious. The only criticism I have about the restaurant is that they were out of the beer I wanted and didn't have lamb chops available, even though they were listed on the menu. The only reason I'm not deducting a star is that I've noticed other restaurants also being out of stock on certain items, which I found peculiar. I personally thought the star of the show was the chicken tikka masala which I asked spicy along with the cumin rice. Come here, you can do no wrong. I don't recommend the outdoor seating area due to the homeless encampment out front. Went here for my birthday with my wife. This restaurant is a cute little place tucked away in Kensington Market. The atmosphere was really welcoming, although the lighting was a bit too dark. It was dark outside and there was so little light it was hard to see the food. Our server, Rashmi, was so friendly and made us feel right at home. We felt really well taken care of! On to the food, it was basically flawless. The flavours and portion sizes were spot on. I ordered the Chicken Madras which had a hint of spiciness but not too overpowering. Intense aroma and the chicken was juicy. My wife had what this restaurant calls Cashew Chicken. This is basically a Chicken Korma, I'm not sure why they don't call it Korma but it doesn't matter - it tasted delicious. For dessert we got the Gulab Jamun which was still warm when we got it and I just wish there had been more of it...however 2 pieces is standard for this dessert so no complaints. The Naans are fluffy yet crispy on the outside. Finally, the food is very fairly priced which is surprising given the location, but it was much appreciated.
