So, I am obsessesed with the bread pudding in Ohana. We try to dine there whenever possible. My husband loves food and he loves the shrimp skewers. But quite frankly, I just go for the bread pudding. But we don't always get priority seating. That place books up months in advance. But fortunately for me, the Tambu Lounge saves the day! We belly up to the bar and I sometimes order a drink and sometimes I don't. I have no shame. I'm there for something greater than alcohol and that deliciousness comes with bananas foster sauce & ice cream. Occasionally, we also order some food as well. The appetizer menu has 5-6 decent choices and we make a meal out of one or two of those. The Tambu Lounge has become one of my favorite places to relax after visiting the theme parks for a drink. I love to people watch and this is one place that satisfies that urge. My most resent visit had me there just around dinner time. The Magic Kingdom was closing early for a hard ticket event and the lobby was filling up fast with tired kids and adults waiting for dinner at Ohanas... it does get a bit noisy with all those people but if you have a seat in the lounge area or at the bar, it is not that bad. The drinks are okay. Typical Disney pours... but we always have friends try a Backscratcher! One of those typical rum drinks but it comes with a full length backscratcher.... we normally leave with 3 or 4 of them in our hands. (We have a large collection now at home!) The appetizers were good and like some have said, the wings are a good deal and can be a meal in itself. The staff is good and always friendly. Just be aware that Disney drinks are pricy so bring some extra cash with ya! Enjoy! read more

One of my favorite bars in Disney World. Our bar tender was fantastic and very attentive. I had a Pina Colada which was amazing, even though I'm a beer guy. Years ago, I did try the Lapu Lapu which I loved but tried something different this time. The atmosphere is great. Could get a bit busy at time due to patrons having a drink as they wait for the reservation at O'Hanas. Definitely recommend this place....pleasant view and forces you to stop and take in everything the Polynesian has to offer. read more

Tambu Lounge is my favorite Disney hotel bar. The atmosphere of the classic Polynesian resort is a delight for the senses...made even better by the strength and quality of the drinks and food. You absolutely cannot miss the Back Scratcher (complete with a 2 feet-long Bamboo back scratcher) and the Pulled Pork Nachos. The nachos are to die for...a HUGE heaping pile of freshly made Polynesian Chips topped with Pork, Cheese, Pineapple Salsa and Spicy Mayonnaise. It's mouth wateringly delicious. And at only $8.99...it's a steal. There is more than enough for two people to share. Don't miss this destination lounge at the Polynesian Resort. My friends and I were riding the monorail around and decided to get off here to check out the bar...what a great time we had! The drink prices are pretty ok for what you get. We had to get the pineapple drink (of course!) and it was delicious (packed a punch too with it's 151 rum). We asked the bartender for a spoon to scoop out the delicious insides and he was happy to oblige. Every drink we got was delicious and the atmosphere was beautiful. Awesome bar. read more

We opted to sit here to watch the AFC game, but unfortunately, it appears management underestimated the crowds and only had one bartender working. It took almost a 1/2 hour to order a drink. This is not a reflection of the employee. She was out straight and didn't stop. It wasn't until the bartenders were changing that we observed the new bartender more interested in moving chairs, moving signs, stocking glasses than taking care of the patrons. Because of that, we opted to leave. We would've stayed for the entire game, but after seeing a very busy bartender barely able to keep up and then it changed over to a bartender who lacked luster and serve new patrons as they arrived, we knew it would've been another hour before we could get another drink. I would go back, but not if I see the 2nd bartender, again. Oh, and food is not served until 5pm. read more

My love for tropical drinks knows no boundaries, so toss this one in for another quasi-biased review. There's one major reason why people flock to the Tambu Lounge: the Lapu Lapu. That wonderful beverage handed to you in a glorious pineapple cup is worth every penny. But if you're like us and will continue on your monorail pub crawl, be careful with more than one: it packs a punch. The service at the Tambu Lounge has always been stellar for us. The bartenders usually go above and beyond, especially if you've got food allergies. Being allergic to apples, I need to make sure that fruity mixers don't use apple juice as a filler. It was awesome to have that level of attention given to make sure I could have my favorite drink rather than taking the easy road and ordering something else. While at times it can be a bit busy (around dinner when people are there waiting for Ohana tables), it is a great place to kick back and relax if you're lucky enough to get one of the small tables with comfy chairs. Aside from meal times, it's actually pretty quiet and you can just spend time hanging out. I come here and do homework, if that gives you any idea of what the ambiance is like. We haven't eaten here, but what I've seen others order has smelled and looked fabulous. read more

If you want to grab a quick bite and a drink, this may be the best option at the Polynesian resort. Drinks were very good, but the appetizers we had were alright, nothing I would try again. We had the pulled pork nachos and chicken wings with a sort of Asian sauce. The wings were not bad at all, maybe a bit salty but that's just my palate. On the other hand, the nachos were poorly executed. In my opinion, the pork was very dry, it seems that it spent a bit too much time in the microwave. Also, the ratio chips to pork was totally off, just a little pork to the full bowl of chips. It was also dry, it has almost no cheese or something to connect the chips and the pork. Also the staff was not very friendly. We saw our food sitting in front of us while our bar tender was busy with something else and the other bar tender was walking back and forth without wanting to acknowledge our food. read more

The service here is not up to caliber based on the outstanding service that Disney claims to have for all their guest. The bartender(s) should keep their head up and actually engage with the patrons. It took the bartender at least 15mins to ask us for a drink. Slow is an understatement- If they went much slower they would go backwards. BTW: There was only six or seven people at the bar that holds up to 25. Sad- We have very fond memories of this place from years ago. Things change may be not always for the best. read more

Great spot for drinks and has a few signature cocktails that are not offered anywhere else. Couple of things to be prepared for..it is crazy cause of people waiting to get into Ohana...if you order food 50/50 chance it dies in Ohana window as those running food to the bar are hit and miss. Bartenders are friendly. The wings I ordered are the ones served in Ohana, good but came out room temp cause they were likely forgotten about. The husband and I are tiki-philes, we had to visit the Tambu Lounge at Disney's gorgeous Polynesian Resort. First off, I wish the ambiance was a bit nicer. The Tambu Lounge is open to the hotel lobby, which is just lovely with all of the bromeliads and indoor water feature. But I prefer my tiki bars to have a bit more of a private, quaint, dark feel to them. Plus, between the background music, noise, and the water feature, the volume can be a bit loud, making it difficult to talk to people. Now onto the drinks. I tried the Backscratcher and the Lapu Lapu, the 2 real signature drinks. These drinks weren't bad, but not the worst tiki drink I've had. They were just lacking some of the complexities I enjoy in a well crafted tiki drink. But if you like sweet and fruity, these drinks are definitely up your alley. And there's also a decent selection of wine and beers, for those that aren't into tiki drinks. I did grab some food from the limited menu. We tried the hummus / babaganoush / pesto dip thing and the wings. They were OK, but I've had better. read more

We came to the Polynesian to eat at a different place, but ended up sitting down for some drinks while we figured out where to eat. We looked through the menu (which is the standard bar menu for WDW) and found some appetizers in the back of the menu. I am glad we stopped here for drinks because we decided to try the wings, they were delicious! You get a decent number of wings for 8 bucks and we actually turned that plus our drinks into a meal. If you've eaten at Ohana before the wings out here are different and I think better than the ones at Ohana. read more

My husband and I visit Disney World once a year and always make it a point to visit the Tambu Lounge AT LEAST once per visit! We are both into tiki and enjoy the atmosphere a great deal. What really makes me smile? Walter the bartender! He remembers us each year! This man sees thousands of people and he still knows us each time we visit- talk about a top-notch bartender!!! Let me get this out of the way: I love tiki drinks. That being said the drinks and service here went above and beyond. They have an inventive cocktail list with a little something for everyone, and the bartenders really hustle despite being constantly swamped (this is Disney, after all. Is it ever not crowded?) Rarely people complain about getting too much alcohol in their drink. For $14, the pineapple is worth every dollar and then some, as it is majority 151 and rum. In my opinion, it was too strong. We ended up having to mix in some sprite just to make it easier to drink. Otherwise, it was like taking a shot every time we took a sip. The service was hit or miss. It is a small bar area outside of Ohana's and is pretty crowded and busy, as it appears that it is mostly a spot people hang out at when they are waiting for their dinner reservation at Ohana's. We ordered some food, and apparently something happened back in the kitchen and our order got excessively delayed. However, our bartender was extremely professional about it and took the order off of our receipt and we got the appetizer for free. Seeing as it took us almost two hours just to finish our drink because of how strong it was, we didn't mind waiting an extra long time for our food. However, I am sure in other circumstances it would have been frustrating, but the cast member handled the situation very well. read more

This is my favorite bar/lounge on Disney property and I will tell you why. I absolutely love dinner at Ohana's but it can get a little expensive. However, as an annual passholder I am frequently visiting Disney and was overjoyed when I saw some changes to the Tambu Lounge menu earlier this year. Not only do they serve top notch cocktails, but they now serve appetizers too. So if you are a fan of Ohanas, but want to dine for a fraction of the cost, then I suggest pulling up a stool at the bar. Order the wings, sliders, and the banana bread pudding -- you won't be disappointed. Bartender John has been mixing drinks there for as long as I can remember and has never served me wrong. read more

I'm between a 3 and a 4. I'll give them a 4 because the service was good while we waited for our table at ohana to be ready. I ordered the lapu lapu and did not really like it. For being a drink in a pineapple I expected something sweeter and fruitier. The bartender was nice enough to dump it out for me and make me something else that I liked much better. The drink itself was around $13 after tax not including tip :-/ it made me kind of sad but I was happy with the second drink I got. I'm a sucker for Tiki Huts and Polynesian type establishments so even though I had to wait so long for my table at Ohana's, I had a blast at Tambu Lounge. The bar area was really crowded but Walter the bartender was flinging drinks left and right....so fast it was like a performance art piece. He truly is a master of his craft. I loved my drink, "The Backscratcher" it was strong and not too sweet. Perfection. And it came with a bamboo backscratcher that I still use today. read more

good place for drinks before being seated at the ever popular ohana restaurant. so i ordered the caipirinha inspired drink, and the bartender told me that was the ONLY drink he didn't recommend off the menu. he asked if i ever had a caipirinha before, and i said yes, and he told me lots of people have complained about it. i can see how people might not like caipirinhas because of the strong cachaca taste, but do to the bartender's warning, i didn't order it. i ordered some other fruity drink which was yummy. the bar was a bit kitsch but that was kind of expected. read more

Had plans to go to Ohana however due to scheduling conflicts had to cancel. After an overcrowded and unseasonably hot and obnoxious day at Magic Kingdom we left in need of sanctuary. Ended up at the Polynesian and ran for the bar in need of liquid therapy. After downing the strong well needed pineapple specialty cocktail viewed the menu. We ended up moving to the bar and were served by Rose. I was amazed by her service level, how many people and servers she simultaneously provided for. Seemed she was doing the job of 3, while staying focused yet providing amazing service. Ordered the pork nachos, pot stickers and YES, the bread pudding. The nachos were incredible and were fried wonton chips vs. Tortilla, potstickers were perfect and that bread pudding was something to write home about. Thought it was only available at Ohana so really stoked. Our total came to under $47 for 2 strong drinks plus the aforementioned shared meal. Ohana would have been over $100 without drinks. I felt like we cheated some system, yet no filler buffet stuff...only what we wanted. Left a happy full camper. Service and food were 5 stars. Rose should def be running that place.
