I see the reviews saying how dirty it is here, and I'm really confused. I'm not sure what you're expecting. It's definitely older/more dated, but I've never seen anything unclean here. We went for a while for homeschool skating lessons, and the instructors were great! It's a great rink. I think the only issue I've had is with communication. One time we showed up for class but it wasn't happening that day. We never received info that the class wasn't going to be held because of an event going on. I absolutely love this place! My daughter has had an amazing time learning to play hockey here! From doing the Learn to Play program to doing private classes. This is a great facility! I highly recommend coming here for hockey! I give it 4 out of 5 because the rink itself needs a face lift. It's all dark and gloomy in the entrance. Also, sometimes the humidifier in the rinks goes down so you can't watch the kids practice (the glass fogs up and can't see into the rink). read more

Our first visit was ok at best. My children had a good time although I was unimpressed. The facilities were definitely dated to include the restrooms and the ran down skates. One pair of skates laces could not be tied and I returned them for a slightly better pair. The cost of skate rental for three and two skate helpers was $72 and open skate was for a total of 90 minutes. If you wanted to skate again in the same day you must pay again. On our second visit as part of a playdate we had an even less desireable experience. My son had a really bad fall while I happen to not be on the ice. After hearing him scream out in pain ran I ran to his rescue. The attendant was not present. The employee whom ultimately assisted us wasn't even on the ice but appeared to be taking out trash. While he was very helpful, the attnedant came and gave a half hearted apology which I felt she was told or forced to give. The entire experience was unfortunate because we live 10 minutes from this location however I will never return to pay that kind of money for such service and dilapidated facilities. read more

My daughter and I had a great time at TBS. We went over for the Sunday open skate session. Admission for two, with skate rental, was $31. Quick signature on the release form and we were off for the 2 hour session. Not too busy. Rink was clean and had a fresh sheet of ice. Not the greatest rink I've played hockey at. It's an aging facility. But a rink is more than it's physical limitations. It's the people, the rink rats that make up the community. The whole TBSA organization has good people and that's what you need to know. I've seen some reviews complaining about the skate quality or even the laces. If they're rentals and they're beat up who's to blame? If you want good skates go buy a pair. If you're knowledgeable enough to determine a good skate versus a bad one then you ought to be smart enough to know all rentals kinda suck. Get some decent skates -they're not that expensive. The only thing they have going for them is the location. -The worst ice in the South East (sometimes exposed concrete). -Depending on the time of the year it's like skating in a sauna (very warm air). The HVAC needs to be replaced immediately. -The hockey leagues are a poop show. I play hockey and I keep trying to give this rink a fair chance but it's impossible. They can't keep managers longer than a few months. Front desk experience is like wading thru mud with kids behind the counter with attitudes. The place is falling apart, dirty, the pro shop is terrible (do NOT get your sharpening done there- the kids ruin blades and have no clue) and their stock is old and over priced. The ice is fair to poor. The south rink is always a sauna with soft wet ice and the north is just fair ice. The locker rooms are foul. Snack bar dirty. Everything is moldy or crusty. Everything is far more expensive than any other rink, even Wesley chapel but that doesn't phase them. They still don't even try. CIA is marginally better. read more

Officials on the ice kept everyone going in the same direction. Bring a jacket and gloves it's cold inside and colder if you spend time getting up and down off the ice! The owners are only concerned with taking your money and the bottom line. My friends and I planned to go here for an ice skating day on our school holiday yesterday and we came in a gigantic group to the skating rink, and they refused to give us a group discount. We were a group of probably thirty people, it was ridiculous, we had to end up paying full price at around $12 each instead of maybe $7-$8 each. They old us we had to book in advance, but that's kind of retarded. People wouldn't make groups of random people just for discounts, and even if they did, a group is a group. The only reason we still skated there was because it was a really long drive that we took to get there. I tried some crispy french fries there and they were pretty good even though it took quite some time to take. The fitting place for ice skating has some kinks to it and they cannot really match up your real shoe size to ice skates, almost everyone complained that their ice skates were either too big or too small and they had no half sizes. The music was alright, but faint and not nearly on par with the Brandon Ice Sports Forum's music and DJ. They weren't clearing the floor to resurface the ice so eventually towards the end ice started building up on the floor and dirt and cracks were easily visible. This place is not worth it, so we went in apparently there are only sooo many of those plastic blue ice trainers that kids that aren't very good at skating need to be on the ice - once they run out - they don't have anymore - mind you there is only like 10 of these things in total! I went here for the first time about two or three weeks ago and had a fun experience, as it was first time ice skating. However, there are a few things TBSA could improve upon to make the experience more enjoyable. First, their ice skates aren't comfortable. I changed my skates twice.The group that I was with did so as well and we were all pretty unsatisfied with the skates. First pair I tried were too small and were practically cutting off my circulation. The second pair were more comfortable, but too big and loose which made me feel slightly uneasy while ice skating. The staff were nice, for the most part. The safe guard was very nice and helpful - offering me tips on how to stop, and how to get up when I fell. The music is BAD. Seriously. So bad that I had to abruptly stop in the midst of skating and ask myself, "what the eff are these cats playing up in here!?" They really need to play music that livens up the joint a little. Overall, I plan to go back, but I'm really dreading wearing those God-awful skates again. For me, the issue with the skates put a damper on the whole experience. read more

After waiting for the cashier to get off th phone for 5 mins, then paying 44 dollars for 2 people to skate, I had the pleasure of waiting at the skate window for 10 minutes to get skates. Make sure you check the times for free skate online before you head over. This place has a huge ice ring and caters to many events. This place is great to have a little fun and skate around the ice. There are little blue "ice walker" thingy that help beginners get used to being on ice. If you've gone ice skate or regulate skating before than you will enjoy all the room you get here. Although the there were lots of people the times I went, I still felt like there was room to skate around a stuff. Just watch out for little kids, they have no sense of direction. Speaking of little kits this place will host birthday parties. :) Anyways, beside the ice the facility in nice it's easy to get around with skates on even if you need to use the restroom. I wish they had more available seating next to the rind for those with skates on. If you wanna take a break and it's busy you have to go back to the rental area just to find a seat or stand by the ring if all the ring side benches are taken. All in all great little place to practice, free skate, date night, or other ice things. read more

First time I had every been to this location. It was horrible. To start off, the lockers are $.50, no big deal. But if you want to take a break and open the locker to get your money out you have to put another .$50 in to kick it again. Everything is extremely over priced. We have been going to this rink for over 2 years now. It is easy for me to remember that because we were trying it out just before my daughter turned 5, when she came home with a newly found "passion to be a skater" from VPK (Voluntary Pre Kindergarten). After assuring her she has never been on skates before and that she does not even know how to ice skate to be passionate about it she stood her ground and kept her position, shes good like that. We went for a trial run to see this passion in action with a groupon. Ice skating is not "cheap" and this rink is right in line with every other one out there. I mean when you see your electric bill you get sad but the have to keep ice ice in Florida for 2 rinks, theres is probably Heart Attack worthy. First thing I noticed was the "Vintage look and feel" and the Unbelievably Powerful aroma of the finest locker room in the south, I am so happy that they are refreshing the place and now it has a newer fresher look and feel and well its better then before but lets face it Hockey Players and their equipment bags stink not a lot any management team can do about that unless they manage the Amalie. So now lets go back to my daughter and not my rant about how the rink we now call our second home has gotten better and they are a rink not a model show rink. The thing or things you will find at TBSA Oldsmar that make it the greatest rink for us are the 2 ladies that made our passionate little girl a freestyle 4 skater by 7 years old, with over 50 medals from competitions including over 30 first place finishes and has her working on US Figure Skating standards already and they are Coach Georgia and Coach Sarah. They have taken a 5 year old girl with a "Passion" that "never been on skates before" and "did not even know how to skate" and they showed her that sometimes all you need is passion and desire. They are amazing women both on and off the ice and we are proud to call them our Coaches. At the end of the day our little girl may or may not be an olympic gold medalist, but what she has learned and will learn in the future here at TBSA Oldsmar will make her a stronger, healthier and confident adult. So know this good folks. The rink has gone downhill maintenance-wise and prices have risen significantly. Skate and shoots have been deserted only bringing in a few guys and no goalies due to rising prices to $22 per session and making players bring their own pucks, and goalies have to pay now. It seems as if they're driving everyone away with these prices. More affordable prices would bring players/goalies, as it used to when skate and shoots, and leagues, were thriving. read more

I mean disgusting, feel like i need to sanitize the second i touch anything in this place. The two posters above me must be (at least) mildly retarded......so the complaints are that the rental skates did not provide a perfect custom fit and you did not get anything for free (or discounted) - which was never promised to you in the first place. If you want to have a great time with your family and/or friends and understand that rental skates may not fit everyone absolutely perfectly (but still good enough for people to use them all the time) and that you may have to pay what everyone else does (God forbid), then go to Tampa Bay Skating Acadamy - great place with class act employees! read more

The place was pricey considering the skate rentals where in a ragged condition with the padding coming out and the laces so jacked up you could barely tie them. The ice was terrible condition and they didn't Zamboni the ice one time in a two hour free skate. I just had my daughter's birthday party there and I was not impressed. The skating part was fine but the service for the party was seriously bad. The pizza they served came in a box and the cheese was stuck to the bottom. When I showed the hostess, all I got was, "oh". So, we got pizza with sauce instead of cheese pizza. No popcorn, no tokens, no offer to take anything off the bill due to the lack of service even though I explained what happened right in front of the manager. My daughter and friends had a good time so I was not going to ruin it by complaining in front of them but I would not recommend spending the money to have a party there. I went to the rink last thursday, 12/29 around 7:00 pm for skating. Waited in line for 20 minutes to pay $15 which included skating a skate rental. I paid with credit card and was not offered a receipt. Next, I had to wait in another long line for 40 minutes to pick up my skates. Talk about a cluster of an operation! When I was finally up to get my skates, I had to tell the heavy set gentleman with the glasses who working the window 3 times what my size was only for him to tell me they were out of that size. Come find out, they were out of anything between size 7 and size 13. He directed me back to cash register to get refund. Upon going back, the female cashier told me shouldn't give me a refund without a receipt even though I had my raffle ticket for skate rental. She said her manager was the only person with that authority but she took down my credit card info. She also offered me free skating for a future date in place of a refund which I refused do to the fact that I live 45 min away from the rink and will never go back to rink, especially by myself with one lousy ticket. (Honestly, really just a ploy for you to come back and spend more money there since who in there righful mind would ever go skating there by themselves) She said the $15 would be refunded the next day. It's been almost a week now and no refund. Joke of an operation and I will not be back. The rink in Brandon is much better and worth the drive. read more

The inside and outside of rink is dirty & run-down. All walls have chipped paint and scuff marks. Rental skates are torn/ filthy with laces that do not fully lace up because they're broken. Reminds me of a tacky small town roller-rink from the 70's. i wish owners would invest in improving aesthetics & customer experience, as many other rinks have done in other large cities. read more

We went to the one in the mall and I wouldn't do that again. I've been ice skating before and am OK and took my two beginner daughters. The mall rink is not one for beginners! It was not an even/smooth surface. You can feel all sorts of dips in the ice and maybe because it was the mall and not as cold but the top layer was melting and there were puddles everywhere on the ice. To me it was not a good surface to be skating on and I even found it a bit challenging. I will look elsewhere for our next ice skating outing. read more

My 9 year old son plays hockey here. The staff are always organized and helpful and the coaches are wonderful. Open skate is also a fun activity to take the kids, especially during the long, hot summers here. The skate rentals are not always the best, but all I can say is, buy your own! Ha!
