We got carry-out from Tampico for a Midway Tavern Saturday night music group. Our first time to be there. Beautiful atmosphere. Super nice staff. Bernardo was warm and friendly and super helpful with the menu. My Chile Relleno was outstanding in flavor. One of the best sauces I have had EVER had in a Mexican restaurant with Chile Rellenos. I will definitely be back. I was delighted when I had my first bite at Midway Tavern. (The bar lets you carry in food, since they have no kitchen.) My husband got Nachos Supreme. Tampico's has some of the best mexican food I have ever had in my whole life! I live only a few blocks away from Tampico's and was hungry, So I decided to try it. I got 2 soft shell taco's (One with no tomato's for my picky sister) And one hard shell taco for my dad. The total was 11 dollars with 2 cups of mild salsa, which is not bad for "Authentic Mexican Food." The taco's tasted AMAZING and the salsa was some of best salsa I had. We tried something other than our usual mexican place. Small mom and pop location. This was great! Salsa was fresh unlike other ketchup based "midwest" salsa. The best thing we had was the burger! We have not been here since December when we had my daughter's birthday party. They did an amazing job for 12 people. Great service and food. Now we have came back and there some changes. So first you have to pay for chips and salsa refills. We paid 6 dollars for queso and there were hardly any chips with it and we asked for more they told us we would have to pay for a refill. Our server was very friendly how ever he was having problems understanding what we are asking about the menu items. The food is amazing. The portions are small. But supper flavorful. Everything is a side charge. It's great food. The service is good but he did not understand what we were asking for. I would highly recommend them. This is the spot in Mishawaka for authentic Mexican food. Literally I am here once a week, usually for lunch. My usual is the taco plate with three steak tacos Mexican style. Served with rice and beans. I have also had many tamales (always great), burritos, enchiladas, Chile relleno and quesadillas. Nothing has ever disappointed me. Fresh salsa and warm chips is always a delight. And their green sauce is legit. The red sauce? It brings the heat and has great flavor. If I say it "brings the heat" then it's damn hot. I love it. 5 stars for the food, it was delicious as always. 5 stars for the service, even though we got carry out, they were very attentive and helpful. 1/2 star for value, we order 10 American style tacos, ground beef, lettuce,cheese, tomato on flour tortillas.......$35.00, add in 2 sides of pintos and 1 order of nachos, and a $10 tip, we ended up over $65.00 for dinner. We come here a lot! I'm Mexican and I'm picky but this place hits the spot! Everyone is so friendly. Sometimes they run out of sopes though.

I would have given Tampico 5 stars, but this place charges for EVERYTHING and the servers don't even tell you about the upcharges! I was asked what I wanted on my taco's and was offered sour cream. I was never told it was 1.50 for a small dab of it! Then we asked for more chips! 1.50 for chips and 1.50 for salsa! We've been to all the authentic Mexican restaurants between Elkhart and South Bend and not one of the other Mexican restaurants charge for extra chips! And once again, we weren't told there was an extra charge for chips! The food is decent, but we won't be back. There's too many Mexican restaurants around here where they aren't charging for every little thing! Oh and don't carry out! I carried out and didn't get some of what I ordered and one meal I did get was wrong! No thanks! I'll go to El Rancho or Taquerio. read more

I LOVE Tampico! I've been driving passed it for a few months and liked it on Facebook. The photos they post had me intrigued. I finally went the other day and was pleasantly surprised by how wonderful everything was. The atmosphere and service was great! The food was quick and amazing. It was like eating homemade, authentic Mexican food from my mother-in-law. The only downside to this restaurant is that they do not serve alcohol. From the outside this place looks a bit questionable because it's a house that has been converted into a restaurant. There's limited parking, but once you are in then you will find the employees to be extremely friendly. They start you off with Fresh Salsa and Chips, then ask you what you want you want to drink. I opted for the Fruit Punch Jarrito, while my Husband went with Mandarin. Having glass bottles was definitely a bonus for me. The flavor will always be better in those, but what you really must know is about the salsa. The flavors were definitely there with the onion and cilantro, but not too much spice. This is of course from my perspective which is one of someone that tends to like the spice in my Mexican food. I ordered shrimp fajitas for myself while my husband had the Speedy beef Burrito. Upon trying his Burrito first, I found it to be the perfect moisture, but lacked the spice. I then tried my shrimp Fajitas. Everything about my fajitas was cooked to perfection, but it also lacked the spice I was looking for. This location is perfect for those wanting Authentic, delicious Mexican food, but without the spice they know they can't handle. That is not to say there is not flavor. There is plenty of flavor. For my Husband it is what he's calling mild flavor because I've spent many years slowly breaking him in. So yes please give this restaurant a chance and form your own opinion because for you it might just be five stars. read more

I moved from San Diego not too long ago and have been craving some good Mexican food. I hear word-of-mouth from a mechanic that this was a great Mexican restaurant. I went in there on an inconspicuous Tuesday for lunch and ordered the chile relleño plate. I saw some reviews on the salsa being poor and would have to disagree. The chips and salsa were terrific. The plate came out quickly and the food was fresh and very flavorful. My only gripe, is that I need to try this place a few more times to sample more of their menu before I update the review for any improvements. I went in yesterday to buy some tacos I ordered 8 paid just under 20$ , was told the wait was 10 minutes.. I returned to get my tacos and seen a sign that read 10 tacos and rice and beans and salsa for 19.99 ... this is after I already paid for my tacos.
