I went up to San Jose at the begging of June 2024 from San Diego, when my car did not make it up. It overheated and was not drivable. I was towed by AAA to tan auto repair where they diagnosed me with a blown head gasket. After they completed the job the problem was still presistant. They ended up also changing the radiator as well. I took it back about 3 times and they finally swapped my coolant temperature sensor. The problem was still happening and they ended up claiming I was good to go to drive back to San Diego. The needle went up as shown on the second picture. They told me it was "just the cluster" and that I would have to knock on it for the needle to go down. I am highly disappointed to have trusted them and known that it did not even make it 100 miles down south. I am towing back to the shop and hope we can get this settled before taking any more steps. I hope to be in contact soon. This is an active review and I will be glad to change it once my issue is resolved. I do not recommend this shop to anyone and they should be making sure it doesn't overheat especially after diagnosing me with such high repairs. read more

Tan auto is cheating. This guy do complete tune up but he doesn't change coolant, engine oil and transmission fluid. When i pay $450 he say he did. But what he did is he adds water to coolant. And 3 month later he tell me transmission fluid need to be change because a liar doesn't remember what he said. And he damages to upholstery too. I am ready to provide two receipt. Tan is absolutely the best when it comes to getting your car repaired for a great price and on time. Customer service is great. He constantly goes above and beyond and has even lent me a tyre when I didn't have a spare so he could check my alignment and so I could drive to get new tyres instead of being towed. When any of my family or friends need parts replaced or repaired I send them here first. Always picks up the phone and answers my questions, and has been great at fitting me into the schedule on short notice so I don't have to wait a week to figure out what's wrong with my car. It seems there has been a wide range of reviews for Tan Auto Repair over the years. I have brought my family's 3 Toyota Camry cars in for Tan Auto Repair to work on over the last 10 years. This review is long overdue. I cannot give Tan Auto Repair anything less than 5 stars. He has treated our cars very well. I have read the previous reviews before writing this and reflected upon the services I have received over the last 10 years. He doesn't speak perfect English so there can be a disconnect unless you speak Vietnamese, however, when there is an understanding of the problem and the solution, I have rarely had issues with Tan Auto Repair. The services Tan Auto Repair has provided for my vehicles included: 1. Alignment check 2. Tire Replacements 3. Battery Replacements 4. AC fluid blocked in pipes flooding the rear passenger seat footwell 5. Frame replacement after car accident collision 6. Repaint 7. Dent repair There are many other services that I cannot remember, but these are just the services Tan Auto Repair has provided to my family's cars in the last 5 years alone. Each time was memorable because the quotes we received from him were usually in our favor. There were some jobs which seemingly appeared fixed, but we would have to bring in the cars again when some problems re-emerged. But that's normal for car repairs. If this happens for Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Porsche repairs at OTHER car repair shops, then it can happen for Toyota and other economic car repairs at Tan Auto Repair as well. But the way Tan Auto Repair tried to remedy the situation and complete the repair is what make them stand out. There's a reason why I have kept Tan Auto Repair working on my family's cars for over a decade now. Would I bring in German cars for Tan Auto Repair? Very poor service here. Did an oil change and they only changed one of two O rings on the oil filter. They also didn't use the plastic plug to drain the oil housing canister. They didn't take time to wait for the oil to fully drain. I asked, can you please wait for the oil to come to a drip and they got upset saying we don't have time for that here and put the nut back in. If they can't even change oil honestly and correctly, imagine what they do for bigger jobs. I wanted to support a Vietnamese business but this one is not worth it. VERY dissatisfied! I took my Audi A6 to Tan for a 4 wheel alignment because me car was pulling to the right after hitting a pot hole. I came back within the couple hours he said it would be ready, and it was. Perfect. He showed me the print out of the alignment and said he couldn't get it 100% aligned but I wouldn't noticed. Well, I did. I took it back and told him it was still pulling to the right. He threw it up on the lift and tinkered around for 20 minutes or so...taking it on a couple test drives. HIS SOLUTION? Rotate the front right tire with the left! That would be good and dandy, however...THE TIRES ARE DIRECTIONAL!!! I didn't notice this and a few days later while I was driving down 880 home from work, had TERRIBLE road noise and severe pulling to the left. To make a long story short...due to the fact the tires were directional and were placed on wrong, the tire developed a HUGE bubble. Needless to say, I had to get a replacement tire AND get a PROPER alignment because he did such a horrible butcher job. I DO NOT RECOMMEND taking any vehicle to Tan's Auto, they clearly have no clue. read more

If I could give Tan Auto Repair zero stars I would. Tan is a straight bull-shitter. Stay away from this guy. My brother was the one that suggested that I take my 1999 Lexus to him. He swore he would give me a good deal, but he did not. He will not fix your car. He cuts corners and does not do a good job. He will do the bare minimum just to get your money. He will claim he fixed your car, and then when it breaks down again, he tells you to bring it back in so he can look at it again. I originally took my car in because I had a check engine light on in my car. He claimed he knew exactly what the problem was-P9446 EVAP System Vent Fault. He told my brother (I asked my brother to talk with him, thinking he would fix the car if a guy brought it in) he would charge me $350 dollar to replace it with a used carbon canister. The light went away for 1 day, but soon came back on. We took it to him again, and he claimed it was definitely fixed. Immediately after Tan 'fixed' my car, I was unable to pump gasoline into my car without it spilling out on the ground. I decided to take my car to IQ Autoworks in Campbell. One of the best decisions I made. IQ Autoworks found a large pair of vice grip pliers blocking off the vent tube on the carbon canister. Tan Auto Repair was the one who intentionally left the pliers in my car, so it would pass the smog test that I need to get my dmv registration. He never replaced the carbon canister but yet Tan Auto Repair charged me $350 dollars. IQ Autoworks said they had never seen pliers inside a car before like this. I highly recommend IQ Autoworks in Campbell DO NOT take your car to TAN AUTO REPAIR. HE IS A CROOK! read more

He came and picked up our car because we couldn't start the engine to begin with. He gave us a very fair price compare from what others have told us. If we need anything we go back to him. Over the years, the quality of the service has decreased. The alignments were not done correctly and sometimes not completed. We would pick the car up to find that the steering wheel is not centered or there was seized part that couldn't be adjusted but we were not told so the alignment was off. Just stopped trusting the work performed. Tan is really nice but we have stopped taking cars to his shop, started using another shop for our alignments. read more

I went to Tan on the recommendation of my car audio installer. My 2008 Toyota Prius had a bad water pump for the hybrid inverter. Tan did a great job! He ordered the parts and installed everything promptly. The price is fair when you consider that we are in the bay area. Perhaps you can find cheaper shops in other cities like Los Angeles, but for San Jose the price is more than fair. He is an honest mechanic and I highly recommend him. read more
