I have been a patient of Dr. Tanaka for over 30 years, I was very fortunate at the time when I needed a GOOD doctor...my sister recommended him. He is straight forward and honest. That's what i want in a doctor, no beating around the bush. He is always willing to answer any questions that I may have and has never made me feel rushed. Five stars. If I could give more, I would. Do not listen to the other three reviews. Can't please everyone. I am a longtime patient and I have no complaints about Dr. Tanaka or his staff. His staff is always pleasant and accommodating. Dr. Tanaka is professional and trustworthy; he will not order excessive tests or prescribe medications that you don't need. The office is always clean but comfortable, exactly how a doctor's office should be. Unlike most other doctors, who keep you waiting for hours even if you make an appointment, Dr. Tanaka sees you promptly. My whole family are also longtime patients. Even my boyfriend started going, even though he doesn't live in Kaneohe. It is worth the commute! So whether you live on the windward side or not, I would highly recommend Dr. Tanaka! :) read more

Let me start this review off by saying I'm not one to go out of my way to complain about someone. I find it's just too much effort and the other person doesn't deserve that amount of work and time. However, it's been a few weeks now and i can't shake my experience at this doctor's office. So i created this account for the sole purpose of writing this review. I'm aware that may mean my review will be flagged and not published, but i had to warn anyone who may still read this. This review is supposed to be about Dr. Tanaka, but in all honesty, you'll be dealing more with the office staff and i had the most horrible experience with one woman in particular. I don't remember her name, but there's no need to as i don't plan on ever returning. The more i think about it, she HAS to be related to Dr. Tanaka somehow. Why else would she behave in such a manner without any fear of being fired or reprimanded? If I could give zero stars, I would. I have never in my life encountered so much anger and hostility from anyone ever. This person is incredibly short-tempered and will not give you a chance to speak or even try to listen to what you're saying. She will scream at you and blow things completely out of proportion. She's simply offended by the sound of anyone else's voice other than her own. Even if i found the best doctor in the world, i would not go to him/her if i had to deal with this woman at every visit. You're at the doctor's office because you're not well. You end up leaving in a worse state than when you arrived due to the tremendous amount of stress from this one person. Go elsewhere. I only came here because he was listed as my pcp on my hmsa quest. Like stated before, he does not physical examinations. Just comes in with his little notepad, asks my symptoms, writes it down as he is standing in the corner and writes me a prescription. He doesn't even listen to your breathing properly, half asses it like moving the end of the stethascope around. Went to another doctor because I all of a sudden couldn't breath, come to find out I had heavy wheezing and Tanaka had said I was fine. He just wants a easy way of getting paid from the insurance companies. I wouldn't mind checking that out considering I'm a biller for a doctor's office. How can you call yourself a dr, if you can't offer and provide the correct and efficient care to your patients? I am now going to ask for a new dr on my hmsa card and will never be coming here again unless I want to fake symptoms just to get medication and probably sell it, I'm currently laughing at that! Do not go to this Doctor. His receptionist will not let you talk to him over the phone. The only way to follow up with this doctor is to make an appointment and pay for an office visit. Even if it is routine question. Rudest staff ever. One reason that it is easy to get an appointment is because his lack of follow up and rude staff. People leave. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR! The receptionist is nuts. I have called to cancel an appointment and been given a lecture on responsibility. I have had her say off the wall things to me out of the blue. She does not answer simple questions. Does not want to make an appointment. I work in the mental health field and would not be surprised if she was on meds for something. She has told me to go to the ER and when my insurance company called she denied telling me to go there so I ended up paying a huge bill. There is more but too much to list. If you have had trouble you can file a complaint with RICOH. He's a great doctor but she is out of her mind. I'm surprised he still has patients. Wish I could give a no star rating. ZERO MINUS Stars... After years of dedicated time spent with this doctor. HE has never touched me or done one thing of Physical Study. He stands in the corner, Looks down, offers about 5 minutes of time... Calls other doctors crooks... He has the worst bedside manner.... He Worries and discusses everything as a potential for medical malpractice lawsuit, that he makes all his decisions based on his OWN personal concerns and not his patients... I have never asked for Pain medications, or otherwise so this is a GENUINE review....! After requesting and reviewing all of my internally kept records, HE indicated that he DID all these genuine (physical exams), when he indeed did not..!. But what got me most, was On My internal records he indicated a personal defamatory bias on his part of my ethnic and employment background, I found disturbingly unethical if not on par with egregiously personally defamatory. read more
