The faculty is large, modern, handicap friendly, and extremely clean and well kept. The display room was classy, charming and peaceful. The display was wonderful as well. When my husband passed away in May, I had to scramble to find a place to handle the cremation. Buma-Sargeant Funeral Homes was mentioned by several friends and kept coming up in my research. I made the call, and it was definitely the right call. Buma-Sargeant went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and taken care of. My husband was what is called a direct cremation. There is no funeral, memorial or viewing. The interaction with the funeral home is limited. But that never stood in the way of them helping me through a difficult process. I spoke with Jim Burma twice, once before they came for my husband - explaining step by step what to expect when they came to pick my husband up. And again, when a few details needed clarification. He was kind and caring. He never once rushed me or made me feel less of a client because we chose direct cremation. His staff was equally compassionate and professional. When I went to pick up my husband's ashes, I got there far later than I was supposed to and they appeared to be closed. However, I encountered Jim's mother who actually lives in the house. I don't know for sure, but I believe she is retired from the business. That did not stop her from taking the time to bring me my husband's ashes. She also took time out of her own day to talk with me. We shared some of our mutual experiences with the loss of a beloved spouse. She told me about the things that helped her cope. She went above and beyond simple courtesy to a place of genuine compassion. As a retired pastor, I have been on "the other side" of the process when a family loses someone they love. I knew what to expect, but that doesn't change the impact when it is your loved one. My experience, over the years, with funeral homes has generally been positive. But at Buma-Sargeant, being the people who take care of our loved ones on the last day of their life is not a job. It is a calling. And Buma-Sargeant embraces their calling with a grace and compassion that makes the process less devastating. I thank each person at Buma-Sargeant who took good care of me, my husband and my family. Calling them was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Hills and crosses…read more St Denis Cemetery is affiliated with St Denis Church which is just down the street. It's an interesting graveyard that isn't especially old or filled with grand and massive monuments but it does have a whole variety of different crosses as well as some fairly large and unique gravestones. The cemetery is situated on a rather steep hill that offers some nice views from the top. The hill gives the graveyard an interesting perspective and it must had been difficult to erect some of the larger stones on the steep hill. Most of the gravestones were from the mid 19th century or newer but there were a few worn gravestones that were impossible to read that might have been around before the St Denis Cemetery was official opened. A nice graveyard that is filled with interesting crosses, surrounded by stone walls and located on a steep hill with nice views.
