The staff is friendly, thorough, and provides excellent care. Because this is a teaching center as well, the primary portion of the visit is provided by an optometry student. They work with an attending optometrist to give the most detail- and health-oriented optometry visit I've had. This takes a little longer, but having the attention means that potential issues can be caught early. read more

Great explanations from the providers about what they are measuring in your eye and what each procedure is used for. I always appreciate that. I think appointments here take a little bit longer than most places since the trainees have to double-check everything with the attending doctor, but I appreciate the thorough exam. read more

I've been here twice and had a great experience both times. Scheduling was easy and I didn't have to wait when I got there. It's linked with the Cal optometry school, so a student did the exam both times. This seemed like it took longer than I'm used to (totally makes sense), but it also seemed really thorough, and there was a doctor who checked in with me at the end and looked over the findings. In my case, they found an issue that the doctor said I've probably had for many years, yet it's never come up in an exam before. She explained it to me clearly and ordered some follow-up diagnostics. A couple of weeks ago, I had already had an exam there but did not have time to order new glasses with the needed upgraded prescription. I just dropped in to the center when I went to order the glasses. The staff and service were excellent, efficient and friendly. When I went to the front desk to say I was looking to buy new glasses, the staff knew me right away and told the Supervising Optician who came out to serve me right away. I was looking at frames and he gave me excellent advice on the types of frames that would work considering the strong prescription I have. I chose 8-9 frames and we went through them. His feedback was helpful including in terms of how the frames fitted my face. I can't wait to receive the new glasses with an intentional new style. The choices for frames are excellent and include all top designers as well as the bendable titanium ones if you want. All my details regarding not only my prescription from my exam were in the Center computer system, e.g, thinner lenses, transitions etc so ordering was super easy. He made sure to verify I wanted the same for these new glasses. I look forward to receiving my new glasses and prescription. I am always treated as an individual whenever I go, including the front desk without my asking, making sure to schedule my eye exam with a senior clinician, this past time with a post-doc fellow, due to existing eye issues. read more

The only recommendations I would make....make it possible to schedule appointments online, and educate patients about all the cheap online options for frames and lenses. Unacceptably bad experience 1) disorganized administration 2) suspect medical competence - intern did everything (normally this would not be a problem but she just seemed confused the whole time, and could not answer questions). I was concerned because I had recently had an eye exam while I was traveling in Europe and gotten a pair of contacts, and by comparison the prescription she gave me was not nearly as clear. She seemed to think that my vision had not changed in the last 5 years and basically copied out my 5 year old prescription again for me - they said they would order trial contact lenses for me to try, that 1) I would receive a call to pick them up in the next few days 2) they would schedule a follow up at this time. A month pass and I receive no call or email of any sort and I call. Apparently they had forgotten to place the order. So the front desk does so and says this time, I'd definitely get a call in a few days. A few days pass, I get an email from an automated system to pick up the contacts. No mention of the "necessary" follow-up appointment. At this point I am just angry and want to get my prescription and get out of there. I ask them if I could get a sheet with the prescription, and they say "it's on the box." - When I get home after picking up the contacts, I realize they have given me lenses for ONE EYE BALL. And there is no indication if this is supposed to be for the left or right eye. - I have been trying to call back to get lenses for my other eye. Been put on hold every time. read more

I obtained my RGP contact lens long time ago at Tang Eye Center when I was a student. The staff spent significant amount of time to get me the best-fit contact lens. Now, as getting old, my eye sights got a little worse. So, I came back to this center. As before, the staff performed the examination/fitting to give me the best RGP lens. Because of some other issues, they referred me to UC Optometry at Minor Hall for more advanced examination/fitting. UC Optometry is the best eye clinic. They will get you the most comfortable/fit vision correction. read more

I've gone to UC Berkeley Optometry at both Tang and Minor Hall for at least 20 years. The exams are very thorough, and I like supporting students. Can't imagine going elsewhere. Minor Hall clinic has weekend hours, which is also a big plus. read more

Customer service is wonderful and you will never get a more thorough examination, anywhere! The care they took in an exam a few years back was so complete that they found a problem that no previous exam at other places had found. I appreciate the expertise each student has in checking my eyes. I have sisters with degenerative eye disease and was given special consideration; my macula was photographed. I am disappointed, however, that my glasses prescription for far-sightedness (a common reading glasses 'script) was not highlighted as being simple and easy to find. I spent a relatively large amount of money on two pairs of glasses that I could've otherwise bought at a local fashion merchandise store or warehouse retailer or even found online for much less. No explanation was given to me that my prescription was a common one and generally available to everyone; which would have saved me a lot of money. read more
