While I wait for a root canal and manage mouth pain, I'm sticking to soft foods and soup. That led…read moreme to Fogonero in Cedar Park, Texas, an authentic Venezuelan restaurant. Pro tip: It's not directly on Walton Way; it's on the side of the building. Wilson, one of the owners, kindly guided me to the entrance when my GPS said I had arrived, but I still couldn't see the restaurant. Please note that there is indoor and outdoor dining along with free parking. Fogonero is best known for its empanadas, arepas, and other traditional Venezuelan specialties. While all of those sounded tempting, I was craving one food specifically...plantains. I have a real weakness for sweet fried plantains, and lately they have become my ultimate "go-to" comfort food. Fogonero's plantains hit the spot. They were perfectly sweet, moist, and enjoyable to eat. The restaurant is a vibe whole vibe. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by a striking mural of the Venezuelan flag painted in vibrant colors across the wall. It's eye-catching, inviting, and instantly sets the tone for the experience. Alfred welcomed me with a warm smile and immediately recognized that I was there to pick up an order. He had everything packed and ready to go, making the process quick and seamless. His friendly, personable demeanor made a great first impression. I'm looking forward to returning and exploring more of the menu once my mouth is back in eating condition.

First time here! Came during lunch time and we were seated immediately…read more Husband got the creole breakfast and I ordered their pesto mushroom risotto. Husband enjoyed his plate and finished it within a few minutes. It came with 2 different types of sauces: a white cilantro flavored one and a red mild sauce that was a bit spicy for him. The pesto mushroom risotto was good, but a little salty for my liking. If you want to add protein, it's ~$6 for beef or shrimp and ~$4 for chicken. Overall, it was good! We'll most likely be back. I want to try their empanadas next time!

Such a good little gem tucked away in a food truck lot in Leander!…read moreThey have plenty of parking and shaded seating with music playing, looked like maybe 4 trucks in total? There's also a decent play area that I *assume* kids can play on, though it's off to one side and near some camper vans. Brito's appears to be Venezuelan-Texan food, with a variety of burgers alongside brisket arepas and empanadas. For a weekday, they had a steady stream of customers the whole time I was here, though I didn't have to wait long either. The woman taking orders was so sweet and even ran my card out to me when I accidentally left it in the card reader. I ended up ordering the brisket arepa at the recommendation of a regular customer ahead of me in line. Delicious. They make a good brisket, y'all! The succulent meat fusing with latinx influence of the arepa for a result reminiscent of Valentina's taco truck (RIP). I'm not an arepa expert, but it was delicious, and PACKED with the good stuff. No skimping here. It also comes with a salsa that seemed like an avocado sauce...only thing I would change is for the sauce to be stronger, as it was too subtle for me and I like a kick. Can't wait to come back and try the burgers now that I know they can cook a brisket.

The black beans were rich and flavorful, the empanadas were crisp and satisfying, and the Yuca con Guasacaca dish was so good it honestly surprised me. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. I'll definitely be back to try more things on the menu. It's a very comfortable casual restaurant. We were enjoying watching the World Cup.

Our server was great! She was nice, checked on us and refilled our waters frequently. Entrees: - Pabellion Criollo: meat was a little too salty for my friend's taste but she said the rice balances it out really well. They accommodated her request for scrambled instead of fried eggs. - Asado Negro: Sooo good. It was like, beef and gravy, but better. They allowed me to sub the beans for extra rice - Surf and turf sandwich: Hubby said it was okay but adding more of the green sauce helped a bit - Filet mignon (can't remember the exact name): our other friend liked his staff as well! They also accommodated his request to have the egg on the side. I guess it could be a hole in the wall place since it's in an unassuming small business strip but the music was good and everyone loved the food! Be warned: there is only 1 bathroom so plan your potty break accordingly...
