They haven't updated ANY Tanning beds since I moved here in 2018. I Finally started going here in 2019 just b4 covid... canceling subscription was a Nightmare!! Took 2mths. They are the ONLY Tanning salon with beds in Santa Barbara. I do LOVE the staff:)) I feel bad 4owner that's sick in hospital but they need to hire outside staff to replace bulbs in Stand up currently 6 bulbs are out and unsure when will be replaced. They REALLY REALLY need to update beds!!! And give a complimentary tan if more than 3 bulbs are out on ANY BED! This is the first time I've ever had a spray tan that you come out soaking wet. I was soaking wet with the bronzer and it turned bright, orange and blotchy throughout the entire body. I they need to definitely buy a new machine because this machine is way too old and not shooting spray tan evenly. My entire body is blotchy and looks absolutely embarrassing to leave the house. I love this place. At first, the 3.0 review scared me, but with few choices, I went for it. Initially, I was going to get a tan for my wedding, but since they had clean rooms& beds, and hot beds ( but great fans with cold air ) that work amazingly, and no one was trying to sell me anything, I am now going to be a regular customer! Coming from LA, it's hard coming to a "small town" I was ready to remain fair and depressed while living here since I am very picky with ranking salons. Here are some pics from my wedding on 4/23/22. Compared to what I'm used to at home, I found this establishment, while clean and run by nice people, to be very noisy and lacking modern equipment. Tanners Cove is the best salon to get a quick blast of sun. The ladies there are fabulous and the facilities are always clean and pretty.

Wow - this place is awful! Lamps are super low and don't do anything. Customer service is really bad. At least 3 or 4 times I have gone in to tan they turned me away because their computer system was down and not connecting to the beds. And when I tried to cancel my membership they're refusing to cooperate and do the right thing. I just received a call from the owner herself who insisted on arguing with me and telling me personal stories about other customers which was so unbelievably unprofessional. I don't even have the energy to go into the detail! I know there aren't really many options for tannings beds in SB but I'd advise against this place strongly. I assure you, you'll be just as disappointed as me and my other friends who hated it there and have also left. read more

This facility is IT. The staff, products, equipment and experience are all top shelf. There is a daily special as well as a student discount, with a variety of tanning options to suit your preference. The facility is clean, the equipment is clean, the owner is sweet as pie. The negative reviews would have you believe otherwise, but it's just not so! I let the lesser reviews deter me from checking it out at first, but as time went on I decided that the price per service was worth the venture. I am so glad I went!! Prices are reasonable and they offer a good variety of discounted packages. The salon is dated and has a tight feeling but it seems clean and well maintained. The staff is friendly and down to earth, which is important in a place where one might feel a bit vulnerable. The out dated aesthetics is the reason I didn't give this place 5 stars. Tanners cove is amazing for tanning! They have everything you need and the service is awesome!

This place is the biggest rip off. Tanners Cove is aware that they are the only tanning bed service in the Santa Barbara area, and so they charge literally 2-3x more than any tanning location I have ever been to. Service is incredibly sub par, the beds are weak, the place is dirty, and costumer service is horrific. If you need more proof of poor management, just look how the owner or manager replies to negative yelp reviews. I hope someone reading this decides to open up an alternative tanning salon to put TC out of business :) read more

Horrible, horrible! I was a Unique Tan customer for seven years and when I returned to town, was amazed to find Tanners Cove purchase the company. The "points " package I had just purchased was no longer redeemable. WTF!? Isn't that what you essentially bought? The customer base and all of members? IMMORAL BUSINESS PRACTICES--They will scam you out of as much money as they possibly can. I was a customer of "Unique Tan/Tanners Cove" with no delinquent payments for many years. 4 or more months ago I no longer needed their services, so I walked in and cancelled my membership at the Cliff Dr location. I was directed by the front desk receptionist that nothing else was needed on my part. I made sure they had my phone number in case they needed to contact me for any reason. Up until yesterday, I had not heard anything from Tanners Cove or any representing agencies informing me of any issues with the cancellation of my account or any issues with my account in general. Today, I received a call from the collections agency looking to collect a debt in excess of $327 on behalf of Tanners Cove. This was incredibly disturbing and surprising information as I had received NO contact by phone, email or mail from Tanners Cove informing me of any outstanding payments. These were attempts to collect "debt" from a service that I was not utilizing and had attempted to cancel. I truly feel as though I have been taken advantage of by a company with not only VERY poor moral standards but poor training, failing to properly train staff on handling account services and protocol. The fact that no one reached out to me to attempt to get payment for or resolve these "outstanding debts" before sending them to collections makes it seem as though this was an intentional act to rack up more and more debt. Truly disappointing and disturbing from a local company who I supported for many years. On top of that, my friend had a similar issue. She went went there ONE TIME and did not even realize she was signing up for a membership. She too received a call from collections yesterday in excess of $280. She never received any attempt from Tanners Cove direct to recover the "debt". I called the shops asking if I could speak with the manager/owner. The receptionists at each location had the same response... "I can leave a message for her (owner) and she MIGHT call you back"... I told them I wanted to verify the accuracy of the phone call and make sure that it wasn't a spam call and the girl responded "Oh yeah she (owner) did send a bunch of people to collections today..." Horribly ran business with poor moral standards from ownership. A complete scam of a business. read more

If I could give this company a 0 or negative stars review, I would. They are UNETHICAL, DISORGANIZED, and DISHONEST. I have had MANY issues with this company, but the most recent occurrence has been the worst. Let me preface this - I had gone to this place on and off for the last couple of years as they are one of the very few tanning companies in town (which is why I even continued to go to this place after the countless problems I had occurred over time). Almost every time I visited there was a new, untrained, front desk gal that usually never knew how to work the system. On multiple occasions, I have had them over charge me on items, and on another occasion they lost my tanning lotion that I left with them (they had offered no remedy to having lost the $40 something lotion and said I would have to buyer a new one). So, this business is extremely disorganized from the start. The BIG issue is the lack of staff knowledge - especially when it comes to cancelling contracts (convenient). I have had TWO issues with the contracts that I have cancelled with Tanners Cove. The fist contact I cancelled with them, I paid for my monthly membership, paid the cancellation fee and paid for another month being that I didn't cancel my contract right on the first of the month (they require 30 day notice - just another way they make sure to SCAM you out of as much money as possible). After cancelling with them, I checked my bank statement to find out they had still been charging my card! I notified my bank of this error and my bank thankfully resolved the issue. My second (most recent) contract I went through the same procedure. I went in to cancel my membership, I was told that it was not 30 days before the next pay period so I would have to pay the fee and pay an additional month, which I agreed to. Months later (this past week) I get a call from a collections agency telling me I owe money to Tanners Cove for my contract THAT I CANCELLED. Not once did anyone on the staff, or the owner, call, leave a voicemail or email me to tell me there was any sort of issue with my cancellation or to tell me I owed this mysterious bill. So you can understand that I would be a bit upset to get a call from a collections agency when I wasn't aware there was an issue in the first place. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE if you do not wish to be scammed out of your money. read more

Yay! So happy to find this nice, clean place for an "automatic" spray tan! They do custom spray tans and regular bulb tanning at Tanner's Cove also, but I like the Mystic spray tanning booths. Had to call around to find this one and lived it. A little pricey ($35) compared to the place I go at home in Kentucky, but worth it to look freshly tan while on the road. Easy to find on Cliff Dr. and so friendly. I called ahead to see if I needed an appt, but the gal said it doesn't get busy until about 5PM. Had no wait and it was a great experience. Then did NOTHING to compensate me. Then had their district manager call me in a very condescending tone to inform me that I've been a customer for over a year and a half, and was upset that I didn't just telepathically pick up on the rule about the tans... The amazing team of girls have the best pre and post care routine/tips for maintaining your spray tan! I am always welcomed when I first walk in and the amazing team of girls are always accommodating to my needs! She did a really good job explaining the process, going over each step, and explaining the before and after care that will produce the best results. Worst spray tan ever!! The customer service here is terrible and the spray tan was spotty, uneven and looked horrible. I tried to tan over the crappy orange spots and streaks but I was stuck with it for about a week. I get spray tans all the time and I've never had one come out this bad before. When I tried several times to reach out to a manager they kept telling me someone would get back to me but the manager could care less, after several attempts to reach her, she finally responded with an email and said sorry we won't refund your money. I don't care about being refunded the $35 or whatever it was I am more concerned about how I was treated and how embarrassing it is to walk around for a week with a spotty tan. Had a fantastic experience here today. First of all the location is just a few blocks away from the water, so absolutely beautiful views. Next, Sydney was extremely friendly and helpful from the second I walked through the door. I was on a budget so I used one of the standard tanning beds...except this one...drumroll...actually has a high pressure lamp for your face! Has gone so far down hill I will never go back to this place. I have been going here on and off for years. The newer owners clearly neglect the upkeep of the beds and don't change the bulbs as needed. I usually go before vacations to get a gradual base tan so I don't get fried when I know I'll be in the sun for a week straight. I purchased a monthly membership a year ago with the sole purpose of using one medium pressure bed "The Ergoline" which has misters, fans and face lamps that can be turned off. Months ago I started noticing that I wasn't getting any color at all from this bed. I mentioned it repeatedly to the associates working there. They just made excuses and would suggest I try other beds. The only other comparable bed "the orbit" was in horrible shape! It was so unbearably hot it felt like you would melt in there, acrylic is totally broken which almost cut me! After months of complaining about the bulbs needing to be replaced in the Ergoline and nothing happening I finally said I want to cancel my membership. I asked an associate about it in May and she said I'd been a member for over a year so I'd be fine. I said I wanted to cancel at the end of June. Just found out I got charged at $45 "early cancellation" fee! What a joke! This place has lost my business forever! read more

New owners from Santa Maria bought the location still the same beds I love this location due to the high pressure beds and I love that now they have half off tanning until noon the old owners didn't offer that. I had a couple sessions left at their Goleta location which shut down at some point. No clue when. I did not know until very recently that they were affiliated with the Mesa location. I asked if I could use my remaining 2 sessions. Surprisingly, the employee that took my information got back to me the next day. I was denied both sessions and offered nothing. I was told since I was not a monthly subscriber that they had no obligation to notify me. I, like many, am a small business owner who barely survived the last 2 years. I try to treat my customers fairly with common sense. There was a lot of employee turnover in Goleta but they were always nice. Hence, the 2 stars. If this was my business, I would have offered 1 session to introduce this location and have a high probability of having continued business along with referrals. But that's just me. I'll just stay pale until it warms up. read more
