We sat out on the deck. Two of us had fish and chips, one had the firecracker shrimp burger, and one the Tanners burger. It was all delicious. The Key Lime Pie was so good! Shrimp and grits disappointed me. I had been here a few months ago and after they had been recommended highly, I ordered only to have them come out with a runny version of the sauce. They remade them after the server happened to check on me to see "what you think". So, I thought the runniness was an exception. Please advise servers to let diner know that menu prices have been raised. Mango grouper listed at $19.95 but on final bill was $22.95. I questioned it and was told 'didn't you see the blue sticker that the grouper and salmon went up? No, no sticker on either my or husband's menu. Sorry, I thought I told you.' Not acceptable! We came from Tampa and were really happy with their food and service! I highly recommend the lobster mac and cheese and the grouper sandwich! The hush puppies are delicious as well. Such a nice location, endless possibilities....however, that's where the good news ends. Only a few tables, maybe 4 when we arrived. Took awhile to take our drink order....even longer to get them. There didn't appear to be a bartender on duty yet??? One of the wait staff was trying to mix drinks while waiting tables is what it looked like. Our food was delivered at least an hour after we arrived. Baked potato was old & too cold to melt whipped butter!! It was kind brown inside, not white. No one ever returned to our table to ask if we needed anything....or to tell about a drink that was not what was advertised or the cold food, nothing....? We are regulars at Tanners, live a mile or so away, awesome happy hour with our group on Wednesday. But we were extremely disappointed with lite dinner with relatives last nite. I ordered the 1/2 lb. Blue cheese bacon burger. Asked for medium. Not only was way overdone but totally cold, meat, bacon, burger and bun. Cole slaw was good.. Not one to complain when with others but should have. I'm a local. Basically this is a great place to hang out when a band is playing but the food is really not good. We've given it 3 chances in the last year and all were bad. The last experience was awful. We went to listen to a friends band. We ordered crab legs on this visit along with drinks. They were dry, the meat was impossible to get out and you didn't want it when you did. We let the waitress know after our meal that they were probably old. We basically ate our salad as a meal. She came back to tell us she told the manager and her words, "he really didn't care". Wow. 3rd strike your out. Last time here was awful. The waitress skipped over me whenever she was taking drink ordered, granted we had a party of 9 but there weren't that many people in the restaurant for a Saturday. A lot of the waiters/waitresses appeared to be standing around not doing anything. When I did get my water it took 20 minutes to get it and 20 minutes for a refill. One of the ladies at our table got a hamburger and there was a black hair on it! Told the waitress, she sent it back but they brought out the same exact burger on a different plate. Meaning the hair was literally in the same exact spot on the burger. It took forever to make again that she got it boxed to go! And it took a long time to receive our checks. After 20 minutes of sitting at a table a waitress came up to us and told us to get our drinks at the bar. We did as she prompted to have something to pass the time. 45 minutes after arrival er walked into the restaurant to see if we could order and heather took our order (it was her second day and she did so well despite how busy it was). I used to go to Old Man Franks across the street then Tanners for dinner.Never again.I went last night and waited on by Britany.We didn't get a glass of water and when we asked for bread Britany reminded us that we could buy 3 pieces of yesterdays sandwich roll soaked in margarine and sprinkled with garlic powder.Which we did because it was literally soaked in margarine and barely warmed. I ordered a monitor and it was wonderful .I normally stop at one before dinner but the taste in my mouth was minty and sweet.Very refreshing so I ordered another.My dinning companion begged to get a glass for his second beer as no matter how the request was phrased he was unable to get one for his first. When my second monitor arrived in a smudged rocks glass it was the color of yellow dish water.It tasted awful...like lime juice and rum plus dirty dish water. I asked Britany to bring me a different one as the one I had recieved was putrid,truly disgusting but unique in flavor.You could not make anything that bad twice.Well Britany brought a replacement in moments. I have owned restaurants in the past and there is no question, no doubt that it was the same drink poured into a different glass.Please believe it had to be.I didn't see the humor but if Brittany wanted the bartender to prevent her from making a living that are the house rules,maybe the owner tended bar during bingo.I couldn't drink it so it was left untouched. Came here a few months ago since we were in the area and wanted to try this place as it was relatively new. We like the space and the openness of it all but that was mostly it. We had a party of 8 which included 5 kids so we asked to be seated in a noisier area so we would fit right in. To our dismay we were seated in a corner near the bar but yet there was a wall behind us. This was also the only Area of the place that had a low ceiling. To put fuel in the fire there were hearing ducts right above us shooting heat down and baking us ...so we asked to be moved to the bar area where it was open and loud. Our wait or was great and was very diligent in Serving and checkin on us frequently. Unfortunately some of the food items were not cooked well or the taste was off so we had issues. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and the meat was not cooked all the way through so it was raw on one side....gross! My daughter's hamburger was also overlooked so it came out like a hockey puck. This is one of the best places in Winter Haven FL to eat. It has great views of the adjacent lake and a decent bar. In addition there is an outdoor venue that hosts various musical groups. Call them for what is playing and when. We recently went there for their New Years Brunch. At first it was a little disorganized as it was the first time in 18 months that is was available. However, Greg, the manager was very accommodating and got things swiftly underway. It was one of the best brunches we have ever attended. Prime Rib, Omelets, Shrimp and Grits, Stuffed Shells, Sausage and Bacon, Salads, Fruit and the most wonderful thing on the buffet. French Toast casserole with whipped cream. I can't say enough about the dish! The price was well worth the meal. There were Mimosas and Bloody Mary drinks available as well as a full bar. What a treat. A screened porch is available for those who wish to eat outside and the place is dog friendly. The ambiance is average but the view and the entertainment make it a warm friendly place to dine. Tonight was our first time at Tanner's and we'll be back! The food was great. I had the pork chop (yummy!) and my hubby had the firecracker shrimp burger. We also had the spinach artichoke dip. We would recommend all 3. 4 stars out of 5 because of their "waiting list." Several names ahead of us with no idea given about wait time. I realize people are unpredictable but a ballpark wait time would be helpful. We ended up grabbing 2 seats at the bar. Deryl was great and kept a smile on his face the whole time despite the lady sitting next to us who thought she was at a personal wine tasting and then complained about every. single. thing. The battered lobster is my absolute favorite!! I like that Tanner's has a cozy feel to it and the lights outside are pretty. I am not a huge fan of the fries. The macaroni n cheese was pretty good which is what I got instead of French fries. The staff every time we've been has been very friendly. Our waitress mostly handled us herself, but other servers weren't afraid to jump in and refill waters, bring out plates, etc. However, they weren't packed, but busy. I had lightly blackened grouper and it was very good. Partner had shrimp and grits and really liked it. The fried appetizers were lightly battered, fresh, and shareable, not cooked in old oil. The fried shrimp app was too spicy hot, but that may just be me. Others seemed to like them. Music was a little loud for conversation, but it was Friday and they didn't start until about 7:30 or 8. The view was fantastic for being a bit industrial, but I was very intrigued by the pretty white and grey striped warehouses across the lake. When you first enter Tanner's, the entry is dark and really needs some improvement . This is why I'm giving it a 4. Bathrooms could use some updating but are clean and well stocked. It is not welcoming at all. As you go down the corridor you find yourself in a large room with a big bar. There are windows all across the back to view the Lake and boaters.There is an outside eating area on the dock that is partially covered which makes a great place to dine. They have some great and refreshing specialty drinks. I loved the frozen Old Fashioned. Margaritas are good and their beer prices are very reasonable. Now to the food: No one our party has ever had a bad meal. Grouper fingers, steamed shrimp, shrimped and grits, fried shrimp etc. are all good. The fries are curled and homemade so they are really good. Prices are reasonable. Our waitress was excellent and attentive even though we were eating outside on dock. Specialty drinks are the Chinola painkiller, Strawberry antique daiquiri, tanner's sunset, lakeside passion yo- Rita, Lychee Collings, and a cucumber cooler. The shrimp and grits live up to the hype, it's great! The service however is really slow. They appear to be in no rush at all. This to explains why the restroom smells so bad and to have not be cleaned in months. Add no paper towels or work dryer. I may give them another shot down the road, but it will not be anytime soon. A real Florida Restaurant. Plenty of seafood choices. Haven't had a bad one yet. But my favorite is Chicken Fettuccine. A sauce to die for. My wifes favorite is the Crab Legs. The menu is varied and reasonable. I admit my wife and I have enjoyed Tanners for a long time. We usually eat with 4 to 7 friends.
