Do not use Bernard (Bernie) Mille office as your insurance agent--home, auto, or earthquake…read more I first used Bernie Mille agency in 1992 (when I moved to the SF Bay) after a business colleague recommended him. He has since retired and the business has gone way downhill. Here are some recent examples: 1) In 2013 I left a voicemail during business hours asking a question and requesting a call back; no one returned my call. 2) They provided a quote for a new car that was $600 to $800 per year more expensive than what another reputable insurance company offered. 3) During a phone conversation in which I was trying to understand why this agency representing Allstate would charge so much more than another insurance company for a new car I hoped to buy, the B Mille representative became impatient and rudely interrupted me. By the way, I have an impeccable driving record. After the above unpleasant events, I quit both Allstate and Bernard Mille Agency. I cancelled home, auto, and earthquake policies. B Mille Agency promised to cancel all 3 policies in September, as I requested. Figuring the refunds would come soon, I forgot about B Mille Agency and Allstate. Then 5 months later I realized B Mille Agency and Allstate had not followed through with refunds. It required numerous phone calls and complaints to get my correct refunds. Two of the initial refunds were hundreds of dollars too low. All of the full and accurate refunds did not get to me until six months after I cancelled the 3 policies! Bernard Mille Agency used to be pretty good, but as time passed and Bernie withdrew from active participation, the agency personnel went from pretty good to awful and not at all responsive. Also, given the high priced quote for auto coverage for a new car, I do not recommend Allstate Insurance Agency. By the way, over the 21 years with this agency and Allstate, I had only 2 minor claims. One was when another driver's car (his fault) bumped my car at 5 mph. The 2nd claim was for a small claim when someone caused minor damage to a small sidewall in my yard. In both cases the at-fault people were known. To get rid of Allstate and the B Mille Agency, I accessed online data to evaluate the financial health of competing insurance companies. When I selected one or two, I then used Yelp evaluations to select local insurance agents and get quotes. I could not be happier. And I am paying a lot less money.

Though Allstate is not the cheapest insurance company on the market, I have had pretty good rates compared to other competitors and continue to be impressed by the level of service I receive for that price. The Mille Agency is fantastic and I have never had any issues, I even have had a couple claims. Those all went pretty smooth and I am completely satisfied with the outcomes. Service for the past 10+ years has been exceptional and I think they are doing a great job. I do have to note that I a completely disagree with the previous reviewer. In my opinion it seems that he (1) should follow up on his own, people get busy and sometimes mistakes happen. Bottom line is, as an adult, it is your responsibility to ensure things are done. If you failed to realize you didn't receive a refund check in mail, that is 100% your fault. (2) Comparing rates with other insurance companies should only reflect the insurance company itself not the agency representing them. You pick agencies based on the individual agent's knowledge and their level of service provided. Obviously they were doing something right for 20+ years.
