My payment was returned by the bank (I have now fully investigated what happened) cost u less cancelled my policy and wouldn't allow me to cover the payment over the phone. (And some of their reps are major d*cks!). Then they send me a letter a few months later saying I owe them $200 more dollars. And if I didn't pay it I would have the bill put in collections. Bertha from the Stockton or San jose office area played the part as if she was looking out for me and tried to gain my trust by talking about her personal life. Then distracts me so I wouldn't read the fine print. I needed affordable coverage for the whole year but she cheated me and now i'm insured for 6 months. I still have not received my reimbursement check from a previous auto insurance she said that I would be getting. Maybe it'll come I just need to be patient. I am hopeful she didn't lie about that too. I reached out to Bertha and she completely ignored me and never responded back about my concerns on the policy she put in place for me. However Days prior though she made sure to call me to tell me to pay for the insurance. At that moment I did not have questions for her but did after I seen the insurance timeline she had contracted me for. I feel very deceived by her and the insurance company in general. I've used this insurance broker for the past 2 years and now that I'm switching companies I feel comfortable writing this review... Originally I called and got a quote of about $200 down plus around $90 a month. Sounded good so I went in to fill out paperwork. As soon as I sit down she starts going over different options and tries to tell me it'll be almost $400 down. I let her know that not only was that not what I was quoted but it was way out of my budget. Only after I threatened to leave did she SOMEHOW find a better deal for me and could give me what I was originally quoted.. The lady helping me (I think she was the manager) didn't really seem to like that I was reading everything and asking questions. I felt rushed the whole time. When I would ask questions about what I was signing she seemed annoyed. Some of the stuff she tried to have me sign didn't make any sense and when I told her she just told me to skip it. She also told me I could make my payment there every month, but didn't tell me they would charge me $10 each time! There is also a page that she tried to have me sign that basically said " We won't sell your information to a 3rd party." I was like WTF? You already shouldn't do that! Why should I have to sign a paper for you NOT to sell my personal information?!?! Overall it just didn't feel right but at the time it was the only FULL COVERAGE insurance I could afford. BUT COME TO FIND OUT IVE ONLY HAD LIABILITY THE PAST 2 YEARS. I would have never known unless I called and asked a million questions because I needed to renew my policy and my paperwork didn't make sense. I have been with cost You less for at least 5 years now more than that I'm sure and although throughout these years I have had a couple of bad experiences it has been convenient to just stick with them but now I'm wishing I hadn't stuck around. The first mistake they made with me was when I added my second car to my policy and we changed from one insurance company to the other. Apparently the petson I was working with didn't do something correctly and I was set up for auto pay (not the problem) but I was charged twice, from two different insurance companies cuz the other one was not canceled out. that was annoying and I still don't remember if I even got the money back but I didn't want to deal with the headache. This time it's even worse, this time I added my third car and when I did that I also updated my address, they didn't do that correctly either because I never received my bill and didn't even realize therefore I received a cancellation letter which I also had no idea because they were still sending mail to my previous address. My car was recently hit and due to their mistakes I have no coverage, this is how I found out that I was late on my payment. And the worst part is is all they could say was sorry we have no evidence of that. Well I'm sorry I don't document everything but I'm pretty sure things like this should be double and triple checked by the person handling them and it's obvious that is not a practice there. I will never use them again and I recommend nobody else does either because even though mistakes happen here they have happened too often. It's too risky they're too sloppy and the ownership is not there and the customer service is not there. In fact when I had went to add my second car the girls in the office were literally getting ready to go out curling their hair and one in n out chilling talking to someone in a car in front, and TBH I avoided reviewing this place then but I should have because they also had an attitude, I think I ruined their timing and they were trying to get out of there. So going into 2019 Im still driving on 2018 tags I desperately needed to get insurance or have my car towed. So I came across this Cost-U-Less. However it was closed. I saw someone inside so I knocked and a girl named Tracy came to the door. She was in the middle of helping a customer 30 minutes after closing. She worked with me and by the time she was done with her current customer and myself it was 2 hours past closing. I have never worked with a more unprofessional group in my life. Do NOT go to this location, they will take your money, screw up your paperwork, and have your insurance cancelled. My horror story of an experience working with the Alum Rock Costuless Branch below (TLDR at bottom): I originally went in with Tracy, who was extremely sweet and helpful on 2/15/19 but then she forgot to get ANY signatures from me (I wondered why she didn't but did not question it, as she was supposed to be the professional). Regardless, she made a COPY (remember this part) of my license and registration and I left with my insurance card in hand. Got a call later that day and was asked to come back to sign the papers she forgot about (Isn't that like your whole job?), so we agreed that I would come in the next day. I ended up signing ALL NECESSARY PAPERWORK with the branch MANAGER who was seemingly pleasant to work with. Little did I know that SHE DID NOT send the paperwork to my insurance and I would receive a NOTICE OF CANCELLATION 5 days later due to this missing paperwork. Like what was the 200$ broker fee for if you weren't going to do your job properly??? I went back in after receiving the notice in order to figure everything out and they gave me this explanation: "Sorry about that, we've been having a lot of customers have problems with their paperwork because our COPY machine was broken." So how did you guys make copies of my license and registration???? Regardless, they asked me to sign fresh NEW copies of ALL the documents I had ALREADY signed, so that they could reinstate my insurance that had been cancelled (I would later find out this was a lie too). While signing and reviewing the paperwork, I asked the lady helping me about the backdating that was on the paperwork (since the dates were printed already and they were dated to the original date of when I came in on the 2/15). She then quickly SNAPPED at me, took the paper and said "That date is not going to change so you can either sign it or you're not going to get your insurance." I don't recall her name, but she is the MANAGER'S SISTER (I assume that's the only reason she's still employed there). As I was signing the papers she tried to get me to quickly sign things and seemed irritated that I wanted to read before signing, so I went over to Tracy's desk where she could help me (at least Tracy is nicer in person). Finished signing everything and was still NOT told whether I had insurance or not. I DID NOT receive any updates over the next few days so I called in for Tracy, I kept getting excuses like she was super busy and couldn't come to the phone, or that she would call me back, or that she was going on lunch at the moment but she would call me back. So I messaged her cell phone number that she gave me the first day and she finally called me back saying she was going to lunch and that she would call me around 5 when she was back. She NEVER called me and just texted me saying that my paperwork was in underwriting. I did not understand and called the office, another lady answered and said Tracy couldn't talk on the phone because she was busy. So I expressed the importance and urgency (I DID NOT HAVE INSURANCE) of the matter and she said okay, Tracy said she'll call you back once she's done helping her customer. Closing time rolls around, NEVER GOT A CALL. Anyways, all through out this process I was in contact with the corporate costuless and I finally was able to get a VERY INTELLIGENT and COMPETENT agent who got my broker's fee credited back to me, insured me with a similar plan that I was happy with, waived all my fees, and correctly did all my paperwork (like honestly, it's just getting signatures and sending it to the insurance company). Best part was that she told me that I would NOT have to deal with the Alum Rock agents anymore! Moral of the Story: DO NOT GO HERE! THEY WILL SCAM YOU, LIE TO YOU, MAKE EXCUSES TO NOT DEAL WITH YOU ONCE THEY HAVE YOUR MONEY, BE RUDE TO YOU, MAKE YOU WORK FOR THE SERVICE YOU PAY THEM FOR, RISK YOUR INSURANCE COVERAGE, NOT RETURN OR EVEN ANSWER YOUR PHONE CALLS, GET YOUR INSURANCE CANCELLED, AND OFFER YOU TERRIBLE SMELLING COFFEE. TLDR: They took my money, got me to sign my paperwork, never submitted the paperwork, got my insurance cancelled, treated me rudely when I went back to correct the problem, NEVER heard back from them, practically scammed me at this point, and I finally had to correct everything myself with the corporate office. I came in here with my boyfriend to get insurance new (used) on his car. He has used Cost U Less before to find a quote on his past two cars as he does not have the best of driving records. Previously, he only had liability and he wanted to pay for collision on this car as well. My boyfriend had an appointment and we were helped by Kimberlin within 5 minutes of coming in. There was another woman there who was making a huge deal about losing her ID and registration, but it was clear that SHE had lost it, not them. Despite that, Kimberlin, her boss, and a few other workers went around and helped her look for it. There is wonderful customer service at this office. Everybody in there, especially Kimberlin, her manager (I don't remember his name) and Shay, the woman they were training, were welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The one thing I will say is that my boyfriend found out that he had previously been paying insurance on a car that he already sold and asked to have removed from his plan. I'm not sure if this is a slip up on Cost U Less's part or his insurance company. Regardless, Kimberlin and Shay wrote an email (with us there) to the insurance company asking for a refund. His insurance was not as cheap as he would have liked but he's not a "lucky driver" and wanted collision as well. Kimberlin did a great job of going through all the options and changing all of the features to see how it would or wouldn't impact his price (which is tedious). We weren't made to feel guilty for asking for anything or asking her to change something--she did all of it happily. We'll see how this refund pans out, but our experience at the location was wonderful! read more

They are absolutely worst. They have misleading information about their work hours so you wait at the door for an hour from 8am. Then at 9am the employee comes but apparently forgets keys at home, so you wait for 20 minutes more. Then they forget to get your signature and they forget to take pictures of the car, and even when you remind them and they take pictures, they forget to submit pictures, and you get your policy cancelled because of missing pictures and signature! And you can't even call them because they don't provide office phone number! P.S.
