What an interesting place! Atmosphere is very comfortable, with indoor and outdoor seating as well as seating at the bar. We visited with friends who had been here before and forewarned us about the bacon obsession. We all ordered beer, and then started with 2 different bacon appetizers. One was lime, tequila and jalapeño flavored and the other was traditional brown sugar. Both were very good, although a few of the skewers were over crispy. I had the carnivore flatbread which was excellent. There were 8-10 pieces and they were full of meats (including bacon lol) and cooked to perfection. Went to this place with family and friends. Not alot of seating will say that. But nice environment and decor. Good drink selection. The only thing that needs to be worked on is wait times. It shouldn't take over half hour to get apps when the restaurant isn't even half full. We ordered beer cheese bread bowl with jalopeno. The bread was burnt so couldn't taste anything but burnt taste. It was not spicy, wish It was. Got the fried mozeralla wheel, that was really good. Good wise I had the BlackBerry grilled cheese with swiss, jalopeno, and bacon. It was very nice worst part was it was too sweet. Everything here tastes like maple or bourbon. They need to work on expanding the flavors. I would try this place again though, nice atmosphere but I would work on service and flavors. read more

We got several flyers in the mail so we decided to try it out. It was 5:30 PM when we got there. The place was packed. A couple was waiting ahead of us and another with reservations was seated immediately. The host took our names, we were right after the seated couple. While we waited, over a dozen people finished their meals and left. The place was understaffed and the host disappeared for several minutes at a time to bus tables. After 15 minutes the couple ahead of us was seated. Another couple with 6 pm reservations was seated. I asked the host about us and was told "there were several unexpected tables" and the wait would be another 20 minutes for the second time. He then took my name again! He added us third behind the two other groups that had come in after us. We left. Tl;dr. Understaffed, incompetent host. Ran a bunch of flyers and weren't able to support the customers they attracted. read more

The food was ok. I expected more from them. The salad greens were still connected in the spring mix. When the rest of the Mediterranean Salad was chopped, it was difficult to eat without a sharp knife. The chicken on the salad was wonderful, as was the stingy amount of dressing. The service was less than ok. I will allow that our server was a trainee, but his trainer did not back him up. Drink orders were 45 minutes to arrive ( after several reminders). The meals took over an hour and the place was not that busy. The bills arrived and mine had several errors. The wrong price was listed for my salad ($6 more than the menu price) and a soft drink was added that I did not order. My revised bill had the soft drink removed but the salad still listed $6 too high. Then the $6 was credited on the bill. Too bad the 20% tip was pre calculated on the higher amount. The music was beyond awful. It was way too loud. And I like loud music. Maybe it would have been better if the singer could sing. We prayed that he would stop. My group could only identify two songs. Off key is being polite. Usually we hang around after dinner but we practically ran out of there. Now to your ladies room. The floor was sticky and the edges were thick with grey debris. I know that it was supposed to be rustic, but the rusted and dirty galvanized sink made me want to throw up. It's going to be a long time (if ever) we go back there. read more

Just want to start off by saying I wanted to absolutely love this place and give it a 5/5, but after my somewhat disappointing first experience there, I just can't. I met some friends here for dinner recently, and I was so excited to give this place a try. We ordered the Scottish eggs, fried cheese, and fried teriyaki/sweet bacon for appetizers. The appetizers were out of this world amazing. I could've eaten the fried cheese as a meal. Plus, the homemade ranch it was served with was delish! Before I get into our entrees, I just want to briefly give a shoutout to the EXCELLENT waiter we had. He told us all about the menu, made recommendations and was so friendly! He absolutely made the experience here worthwhile. Our visit was perfect, until our entrees came out, after a surprisingly long wait. I had ordered a burger done medium well with a side of sweet potato fries. My burger came out and I was medium rare. I just can't bring myself to eat meat that is that under cooked and not even warm. I informed our waiter and he was very apologetic. They made me another burger that took another 20 minutes to come out. By the time my burger came out, my friends were finished and ready to leave. The burger itself was good, but I wish it had been cooked medium well the first time. My fiance and I split our share of the bill and just for two burgers and drinks our bill was over $50.00 (not including appetizers), so they are quite expensive. read more

We came across tap 814 as we were heading back to Pittsburgh and I'm so glad we did because the food and service was great! They have a menu with many unique options to choose from. We started with their beer cheese bread which was amazing. I then ordered a burger with sweet potato fries for myself. The fries were really good and the burger was as well. Portions are really big and filling. Some other friends ordered the half dozen jumbo wings which were huge and flatbreads which they also enjoyed. We really thought everything tasted good and was different from most restaurants. I ordered a blueberry sangria drink which was also very tasty. Our waitress was very nice and helpful when deciding what to order. Definitely recommend stopping here and would be back again. read more

Great cocktails, fantastic food that was executed almost right. We did get overcooked bacon (they brought extra to make up for the burnt ones), a steak ordered medium sadly had no pink left but still juicy so no complaints, beignets were a bit burnt as well but the toppings kept them moist enough. I am really impressed for the Johnstown area! The space is small, but the vibe is trendy. I'm only giving it 3 starts because of the service. For a party of two we walked in and wait about 12 minutes before anyone even acknowledge us. The bar area was super crowded, but we were able to get a table. We sat near the garage doors. They appear to open in the summer exposing the patio space. It was another few minutes before our server stopped by. The menu isn't excessively large, however it has some different items I haven't seen in Johnstown before. Tonight we just did an appetizer and drinks, but the gourmet grilled cheeses looked amazing! They have a variety of dips for appetizers - I am a sucker for dips! The Cheddar-beer cheese was super good! It's perfect for two. Comes in a bread bowl so you can eat the entire thing. The drink menu is also large and they have some really neat options to play off the speakeasy theme. I am anxious to visit again to try more options. read more

Lots of parking. Clean environment. Well lit. Not too bright, not too dark. Got a beer and our whiskey quick as there where only 8 people already eating in the place. Got our order in and had to wait approximately 35min for a delicious Piggy Back bacon burger and a grilled cheese. The French fries have character and where quite delectable. Note the American Jam grilled cheese WILL ALWAYS have sautéed onions on it. Even if you ask for none. The menu won't let you know there are any onions as it isn't listed in the menu. Though you can bet your waiters 20% tip the second sandwich you ask for NO ONIONS on WILL HAVE IT. Ezekiel the general manager was prompt on trying to resolve issues without being asked for. Props to him. Otherwise this is a place that is new that should be performing better than it is. Will give it another shot before I cut it apart. read more

OK. I try not to rate on one visit. And I try not to overrate. Let's call this review a statistical correction. There are some solid reviews, but other good reviews with oddly low ratings. And of course the standard "I had an isolated, very personal "bad" experience, so this place sucks. So anyway The bad - no clue why they call themselves a Speakeasy. Flipping great neon sign on the road, and beach style open wall to boot. If you are looking for dark and mysterious...not so much. The good - great taps, interesting cocktails, and a commitment to guest distilleries and breweries. Fun food that is bad for you. Good pricing, and nice atmosphere. If you are a drink with my meal kind of person and find yourself in Johnstown, head out to Tap 814. read more

My son had gone once for dinner and asked his grandparents and me to go for brunch Sunday. Everything was very good! It wasn't super fast, but everything was really well made. It was put together well and tasted good. We also had a carafe onlf mimosas. They were wonderful. read more

limited menu..ordered grilled cheese specialty sandwich..was cold and was not any more robust of a sandwich than one canmake with a toaster and microwave. But least appealing was service. Bartender was lacking any personality, very unattdntive even though it was less than busy and drinks were watered down. A cozy spot that is well-thought out in both concept design and menu options. My husband and I stopped in for lunch and shared a flatbread, salad, and an appetizer while enjoying their unique and tasty margarita special. Everything was delicious and our server was friendly and knowledgeable. This is quite a gem of a place. We will certainly return when back in town. I would disregard the negative comments regarding wait time. This is a smaller restaurant that makes everything in house; therefore, a wait time is to be expected. My fiance and I thoroughly enjoyed everything we had. We started off with the maple bourbon bacon, which was served on a skewer. Good presentation and the bacon was cooked perfectly. Delicious! I ordered the Figgy Piggy grilled cheese and was completely blown away. It was presented on a wooden board and served with sweet potato fries. I really enjoyed the maple aioli that came with it! My fiance ordered the Orange Ginger wings and was very happy with them. We had a few mixed drinks and were very happy with them. Overall, the food was excellent and the atmosphere was very cool. IF you can get food and a drink here, it is very good, BUT the last 4 times I have come here, they are always closing. Tonight, thursday Jan 2nd, they are supposed to be open until 12am, I get here at 9pm and they are closing again! I work a job that won't allow me to get here before 9pm, and it shouldn't matter. I can see closing an hour early if business is slow, but 3 hours early is JUST WRONG! post your hours as closing at 9pm, and stay open late, if business is good, that way you dont piss off your customers. The decor and atmosphere were nice enough. I appreciate the table having the beer menu and what's on draft on and they do have a good selection to choose from. Did not enjoy the food that was ordered though. I got the bella flatbread for myself which seemed pretty tasteless other than the balsamic glaze and arugula. Barring that it just tasted of the baked dough with textures of stuff on it. My friends who ordered the olive bread also thought the bread was fairly tasteless with too much cheese and just one note with the olives. So food for us was sorely disappointing. Perhaps we just ordered wrong but would have to try it again for other menu items. Else would just come here for drinks. read more

I actually really enjoy Tap 814, though I always have a hard time remembering the name. I have to (or "get to", depending on who you ask) travel to Johnstown, PA at least two weeks each year for work, and it's hard to find a really good and affordable place to eat. Since they opened, I've come to Tap repeatedly and intend on coming back again and again. The waitstaff are all friendly and truly excited about the menu and drink specials. They all seem to truly enjoy working here. The food is also quite good, considering the "upscale bar food" nature. I've had just about everything on the menu at this point. I love all the bacon options and the grilled cheeses are delicious and clever. The atmosphere is warm and appealing and I recommend to co-workers that they check out this restaurant. Why, then, only 3/5 stars? The timing! So many other reviewers have pointed this out, it seems like the restaurant is not listening or trying to cut down. It takes such a long time to get anything other than drinks to the table. Last night, for instance, my colleague and I went for dinner and we were one of about 10 customers in the whole restaurant. I ordered a bacon app and wings and my friend had a burger. From the time we ordered to the time we got our food, we had been there for over an hour. I used to cook for a living and can tell you that bacon only needs 15 minutes in the oven (from raw) and wings take 12 min in a fryer. In a restaurant setting, considering the amount of skewered bacon they go through (and the long-ish shelf life of raw bacon) they should be able to cut the time down considerably with adequate prep work and par-cooking. The burgers there are mixed with other meats, so they have to cook them well (still quite tasty), however even this shouldn't take that long, and the wait time could be reduced further if they fire the burger the same time as the apps. If it's a slow table, cook it 3/4 of the way, and finish at the end when the timing seems appropriate. I don't know what would work best for them, but in any case, even if they were to grind the meat to order, it still shouldn't take as long as it does. One other reviewer pointed out that "Apps never came. Waited 25 minutes...". I can absolutely see this being the case and am surprised that more people don't do this... which is a shame because I'm sure those apps were only another 15 minutes away. And if he had waited, I'm sure he would have given more than 1 star, because the food really is good. In the end, I still find that the food is worth the wait, but after a long day of work, I just want to eat and get back to my hotel. They've been open for about 2 years now (as of this review, I believe) so they should have been able to work out these issues by now. read more

Having working in the service industry for several years I always value and reward good service. If I could give zero stars I would. Terrible service and ridiculous wait times. One hour and 35 minute to get two flatbreads and 2 sandwiches. Ultimately, we had the snarky waitress box our food to go instead of eating in. No intent to ask for compensation and none was offered. While the manager did acknowledged the failure not sure we will be giving Tap 814 a second chance. read more
