They're super functional and were an extremely nice Ikea price. I placed my order for 4 pieces of 1/16"x 6"x 12" of clear sheet plastic to be cut. I supplied an original piece to be copied. It was in good condition with no cracks or chips. When I picked my order, I got the 4 pieces that I ordered alongside with my original piece came in 4 pieces also. I am not happy! I would have liked it if they had a another piece to replace the one they broke, but that's not how they do business. read more

I was looking for a specific pattern for my kitchen light box. I needed it ASAP because we were finishing up a kitchen remodel in time for Thanksgiving. On a rainy Saturday, Nov. 19, I drove down from Sebastopol to San Rafael and walked into the store. As a 65 yr old man who'd had his morning tea and just spent almost an hour in the car, my need to use the restroom was intense. I was flatly refused access and was told I could drive down the street and use a restroom at another local business. I tried to argue that I needed it badly and would not complain if it did not offer handicap access, as I don't require that, to no avail. I gave them my order, hoping it would be ready when I returned from my bathroom expedition. On my return, my order was brought out and they had cut the wrong material. I had been very specific about what I needed, even bringing the small sample I'd gotten at the Santa Rosa store. They apologized, and then I got to wait while they cut the correct item. This was overall, a horrible customer service experience. I don't like shopping at businesses that enforce rigid corporate policies, and cannot treat people like human beings. My 2011 Toyota Camry was vandalized by a rat who chewed wiring in my engine compartment and got into the cabin of my car, making a mess. $8,200.00 worth of damages! I bought strobe lights and placed them under the engine compartment in my carport which has kept them away. I was concerned about water from the rains dripping down on the lights, potentially ruining them or creating an electrical danger. Jim from Tap Plastic fashioned a protective box for the lights so even if water drips down from my car, or is present on the concrete, there will be no danger. So my GF went and put in the order. They were OK to her (weekday staff, if it makes any difference). We got the job back two days later than estimated. This was a cut to size and place holes where indicated on plan, and buff corners and edges. Easy stuff. Well, they got the two of three right. The cut was perfect, the slots and holes where we specified, but they forget to round and sand some corners. They did some, so clearly they simply forgot to go over the whole piece. If I find an alternative place, I'm going there for sure. Time to google someone else. read more

I had the rear passenger window on my car smashed during the July 4th weekend and I had a scheduled appointment to repair the window on the 8th. Given the weekend plans, we needed a quick fix to take the car on the freeway and I was able to receive quick and expert advice/recommendation on a thin vinyl sheet which I could wrap around my car door and effectively creating a seal. Eric at Tap Plastics San Rafael was immediately able to recommend the product I needed for my patio gazebo repair job. With only a sample of the plastic fabric in question, he identified the material's type and provided the fact that NO product offered would adhere to it. The only way to close the holes it had, and prevent the future tearing of the surrounding fabric I feared, would be a gel to adhere to Plexiglas pieces on either side and through the fabric. He recommended UV6800 at $8.99 per tube, and one tube worked great!. With some knowledge of plastics I had previously considered repair products from Tap's website, but Eric's knowledge saved me wasted time and $20. My first use of Tap San Rafael was 20 years ago to cut a 26x64 inch clear Plexiglas insert for above a portable AC unit, with an 8x14 hinged window in its center for fresh air. I still use it each summer. I first became aware of Tap Plastics in 1967 when I transferred to San Jose State as an art major. Most of the faculty were also practicing professional artists, many of whom, like Sam Richardson, used both Plexiglas and resins to create their work, and recommended Tap as the best source for selection, availability and price. had a plastic lamp of mine come apart and tried the good ol super glue. Didn't work :( I was referred to this place and took the lamp in, and they were incredibly friendly and recommended the perfect glue. Their experience has given them the confidence to quite often know more about your project than you do. I have taken many projects to them for the display of objects of art, always with great success and satisfaction. They hire local youth as trainees giving the shop a home grown feel.
