This was disappointing, and now that I checked out the reviews and the photos other Yelpers have uploaded, I'm a little upset. I wish I had taken a picture of mine prior to throwing out 75% of it for a comparison photo. I got the shrimp and chicken (though I wish there had been some kind of healthier option, but hey, whatever). It was literally french fries, fried shrimp, and popcorn shrimp, which I can only assume all came from large Costco bags. The garlic-y goodness that other Yelpers wrote about was drizzled on maybe 4 or 5 of my french fries. The chicken and shrimp were also lacking the sauce, like maybe they tossed them in the sauce hours prior. Just looking at the photos others have uploaded, mine looked more like a takeout container of brown. No colorful sauce or garnish or anything. It was like a Popeye's meal. I should note that I'm in Mclean. Maybe they bring their B team to Mclean? If you don't have all your ingredients, don't come out here thinking that we're so desperate for food trucks (but we really are) that we'll eat anything. I hope for future customers' sake today was just a fluke and it's usually better than this. Otherwise, beware. read more

I tried this place during the truckeroo because I passed two lady eating the shrimp from this truck. The shrimps and frites were good, the shrimp was nicely batter and came is a sweet sauce and mixed with that helped cut the salty fries. read more

Everything was just okay, possibly even a bit of a let down. Reading the various tasty-sounding options on their menu makes you anticipate a flavor explosion from the varied goodies but that just wasn't the case. It takes a very long time to get your food after ordering...nearly 20 minutes in my case. The container had no holes so it held in all the steam which made the fried items soggy. The beef empanada - It looked delicious but tasted funny and was extremely wet. Not just moist but squishy... empanadas aren't supposed to drip. It also had a weird sour taste to it that I didn't expect from beef and I didn't recognize the spices. One bite and to the trash it goes. I would even argue that the meat had begun to turn...maybe it sat out too long or wasn't stored at a cool enough temp. Calamari sticks - Partly soggy from being in the container and bland....zero flavor...I could barely tell that it was calamari. It was served on some saffron rice that was just ok. Shrimp Pil-Pil - Partly soggy. No awards here either but it tasted okay. Same with the garlic fries...okay. Overall, this truck gets a "C". Their food looks great, they offer a lot of options, the food is good quality, and good portions, but they leave you wanting so much more. Things like flavor and tastiness just don't apply here and it's too bad, I thought I would love it. read more

Super disappointing...choose to stand in this line during Truckeroo for over 20 minutes. I got the #5, I believe, which was the chicken Morris. This literally tasted like frozen fried popcorn chicken (they should at least seasoned it). The romessco sauce added nothing for flavor. The garlic fries lacked in garlic flavor and were oily with a dash of parsley. I tasted my boyfriends pork slider that seemed a little better. I will skip this food truck next time....sorry. I just made my first visit to this truck, and have to agree with everyone that the portions are reasonable for the price. Each item seems to come with a side, though it isn't necessarily listed on the menu. For example, the Pork Andaluz came with a small side of garlic fries. However, I'd probably give the experience a 2.5 rating if that were possible. The pork came in large seductively-sauced chunks, and while the exterior was crispy as promised, the interior was tough, fatty, and gristly. The sauce was very good, but what it covered--not so much. Unfortunately, the plastic utensiles provided could not cut through several pieces of the pork, and the ones that it did took much effort. While the Chicken Pimenton was more tender, the flavors were modest despite heaps of onion being integrated into the dish. I'd compare the meal overall to something you would get at a Chinese Buffet--if you like the mystery Kung Pao chicken meat, then you might have better luck with the pork, etc. I'm encouraged by some of the other reviews, so I will give them another shot at some point, but I may just do fries and dessert this round :( read more

I would have given this truck five stars if it weren't for the pork. I had the three tapas for $9 and ordered the Chicken Pimenton, Pork Andaluz, and Shrimp Pil-Pil. They threw in a couple of the garlic fries too, which were excellent. The chicken and shrimp dishes were delicious, but the pork was dry and very difficult to chew. The portions are huge, especially if you get the chicken, which comes with a heaping portion of saffron rice. Overall, I would definitely go to this truck again, and I look forward to seeing what they do in the future. read more

First time trying it out, and it's definitely one of the better food trucks out there. I don't think it's overpriced at all -- it's about average (to me, at least) for a DC meal. I absolutely loved the food. I paid $9 for the tapas #8 (pork/beef) and the popcorn chicken (I think it's tapas #4). It was served with rice and fries, and it was great! Just finished lunch and I agree with the reviews of the food being salty. I ordered the shrimp pil pil which had a sauce that was salty. And an empanada I couldn't eat due to it being chicken not beef. It came with garlic fries and rice--both were good but the fries were super salty. I also ordered the churros. Now honestly the best thing about the whole meal was the churros. They are super delicious. The meal it's self was good outside of being salty, but not to the point it wowed me. I'd go again, for the churros in a heart beat though. read more

I'm only giving four stars because I was only able to try an appetizer and can't speak for the majority of the menu, but the corn fritters were amazing. They were small, hush puppy looking balls of gooey, corny goodness. I especially liked that they had corn pieces in them, which added some nice texture. Really a 2.5 Fried, fried, fried. First off, $9 for 3 tapas is a steal when you look at how much food you get. I got braised beef over rice, the shrimp in spicy sauce and the corn fritters. Pros: The saffron rice was light and well seasoned. The garlic fries are delicious and as close to the fries at AT&T in San Fran I have had on the east coast. Cons: The beef was like stewed beef that got the stew stolen from it. It was dried out and would have been decent with a hearty helping of the sauce poured over it, but instead they barely gave me any. The corn fritters were way too sweet for my taste and the shrimp were not at all what I was expecting from the descirption. I was thinking I was going to receive some sort of gambas al ajillo, a classic tapa. Instead it was tiny shrimp, deep fried and served with what could have been bbq sauce from McDonald's. The combo of that heaping serving of fried shrimp with the fried corn fritters just made this meal entirely too heavy. I have to agree with the previous reviewer who said this place is really missing that Spanish flair. The shrimp tasted like they could be served at Long John Silvers. The truck has potential, throw in some quality chorizo and sauteed shrimp into that saffron rice and you would have a pretty bomb paella. Relabel the shrimp on the menu so it is apparent that it is batch of fried shrimp with bbq sauce, not "shrimp with a hot and spicy sauce". Add some kick to the meals by throwing some spice in there. Had the corn fritters at Taste of DC. They were the highlight of the eve.! Light and fluffy, sweet corn flavor, hot and crispy. And the cilantro lime sauce was a great compliment. I'll be looking for this truck again. read more

The flavor combinations are really fantastic, but some things are just a bit too much: I love garlic, but the garlic fries are very potent, so some people might not like them. Just got saffron rice with my order, which was good, but it wasn't great. On the bright side: The fried chicken and shrimp pieces were delicious. They change which sauces to serve with which meats, but all the sauces I've tried were tasty. $9 for 3 tapas is a pretty good price, but it's definitely more of like a "festival food" (aka fried)... not something you want to be eating regularly. read more

I am not normally a tapas fan...I tend to think I am paying too much for too little. This was not the case! I got two items #2 and #7 on the owners recommendation and it was more than this good eater could eat at one time. The rice is full of flavor, the chorizo was super tender and tasty with chimichurri on top to boot! Those garlic fries made me a new believer in fries! I had the sauteed shrimp and chorizo tapas with the garlic fries and an Sanpellegrino Aranchata. The chorizo was awesome. Had a solid flavor and went very well with the saffron rice. Oh, Yum! Just had 3 tapas for $10 (Chorizo Bom-Bom/Safron Rice; Beef empanada and a Pork Slider) The sausage was SUPER flavorful, I loved the touch of chimichurri on it (hope to spell it correctly :) The empanadas were great and little spicy and the pork slider was slighty smoky and spicy with full of flavor too. Nice guys serving up some hot, yummy food. I've only tried the garlic fries (repeatedly) and they're pretty darn good. Recently, at the last Truckeroo, I saw many people walking around with the Corn Fritters (corn nuggets w/ a cilantro lime sauce) and my mouth watered. I tried the Tapas #2--BBQ roasted pulled pork slider with a mustard sauce and garlic fries. The pulled pork is great--seasoned well (not salty) and very very tender. The mustard and bbq sauce on it doesn't over power the pulled pork at all. The garlic fries are less to be desired. They were served hot and still bland. Maybe a simple salt and pepper sprinkle will do the job. Generous food portions for the money. I'd try them again. read more

I got to try these guys out last night at Truckeroo and was not disappointed. We tried their corn fritters and garlic fries. The line moved quickly and the food was served piping hot. The line was fast, service friendly and quick, and I got a lot of food for $8. I picked the chicken paella and a pork dish. I figured both would be gluten free... but the pork was on a small bun - I should have asked. Minus the bun the pork was tender and delicious and came with a side of garlic fries my office mate said he could smell as I walked in. The paella is moist and full of chicken, but either the stock or spices mask the saffron flavor - still the best paella I've had from a truck / street vendor outside of Spain. read more

The Good: I like this concept. Everyone loves tapas and their portions are generous for the price. The pork slider was good, but everything else detracted from it. Also, pork sliders and french fries don't sound like Spanish tapas to me, but anyways... The Bad: The theme doesn't match the name or the brand. Keep in mind this is constructive criticism. I love all food trucks and hope that small businesses like this thrive, but the food needs some improvement. When I think of Spanish tapas I don't think of any of the things on the menu. The garlic fries were those crinkly store brand fries with orange sauce and other seasonings on top. They weren't good and as much as I hate to waste food I had to toss this out. Finally, deep fried everything isn't always good especially corn fritters, which is basically yellow corn kernels battered and deep fried (this process astounds me... how do they keep it from leaking out?). That wasn't good. It was like biting into a deep fried jalapeño popper and getting corn instead of cheese and jalapeño. It would be really nice to see other tapas that weren't fried in oil, especially as the weather warms up. The only thing that wasn't coated in oil was the pork slider. Perhaps grilled chicken or lamb would be a nice option. I suggest revamping the entire menu since the truck is still fairly new and replacing options with sustainable locally sourced fresh ingredients. Final thoughts: Please step away from the deep fryer and towards the grill. Also, CLEAN THE SHRIMP. THAT'S NASTY!!!!! read more

I'm rarely moved enough to actually write a review on Yelp, but I just wanted to put out a warning for anyone who has a craving for garlic fries and goes to Tapas Truck. For $5, I really don't feel it's worth it. They're skinny shoestring fries and, granted, with a lot of garlic flavor--but for the amount that I got, and the fact that they weren't freshly made (unlike DC Ballers for example) meant that I kind of regret getting these when I could have spent my money on a better food truck. read more

This review is only for the tacos. I got two chicken and one pork. The tortillas crumbled apart nearly immediately upon starting to eat. The chicken not only had no flavor, not only was dry as heck....but there was barely any on my tacos. Perhaps a blessing in disguise due to the first two points, but come on. The pork tasted better and was juicy --- but I expect more than just pulled pork in a tortilla. Bring back District Taco!!! read more

I just tried the three taco combo and it was excellent. Tacos may have been a temporary or new offering. Quality ingredients, the tilapia was breaded and fried yet still light, the pork had a nice smoke flavor, and all the meats were extremely tender and flavorful. They have four things on the menu at this place - fine, no big deal. If you don't eat chicken/beef/pork then you really only have two options, ok - i'm used to that too. Oh, but if you try and order the 3 tapas plate (and who wouldn't - its only $1 more than the 2 tapas plate) and want to double up on say, shrimp, NOT ALLOWED! Seriously, it's on the menu. Went for lunch today - they were definately having problems, taking about 5 minutes to take each order - ordered three, chicken, pork and corn fritters - fritters were excellent, chicken was ok and they forgot my pork so I had to hike back out in the heat, endure another wait to get the missing pork, too bad the pork was so dry it was closer to jerky. Not exactly "authentic" spanish food that it boasts, nor is it really any good. Its very bland, dull. Had the chorizo, which wasn't a chorizo but just a sausage with aioli on it, quite forgettable. "Provencal" fries which were fries with a nice seasoning on them. Also the pil-pil shrimp, which is small shrimps diced tomatoes on a small slice of bread. Not really tasty or interesting but quite dull, and I was still hungry after I ate. read more

Meh. They gave me and my colleagues sweet potato fries instead of garlic fries, so unfortunately I am unable to offer any opinion on those. The pork slider was tasty, but it and the fritters were too covered in chives for my taste. I was trying to be waist-line conscious, but getting three tapas makes much more bang-for-the-buck sense. I got two tapas, and I doubt I would pay $8 in a brick and mortar restaurant for one slider, a handful of fries, and some fritters. This was by far the worst food truck meal I have experienced in the three years I have been in Rosslyn. The Shrimp Pil Pil was COLD, OVERCOOKED and lacked any flavor. Even the french fries were awful. Both items had obviously been sitting for a while. If you run out of steam or the ability to serve quality food after 1:00 pm - CLOSE UP AND LEAVE! $9.00 wasted and thrown in the garbage pail! read more
