I like The Angry Jerk, especially for a quick meal in the DuPont Area. It's basically a Chipotle-style build your own bowl, with Jamaican food. I have gotten both the jerk chicken as well as the curry chicken - both are tasty. Each bowl comes with 5-ish toppings of your own choosing, and there's a wide variety to choose from. I tend to get the cabbage, plantains, and cauliflower. Oh and they're not messing around with their sauces - all of the Angry sauces are actually HOT. I work in the area and walk past it almost every day. The first time I tried the curry chicken bowl with rice and peas and slaw. I was not really impressed with the curry chicken. A week later our suite neighbors ordered catering from Angry Jerk and they had the jerk chicken and lo mein. I was able to try it again... and this time it was GOOD! lol! My husband went back in and asked if they could make that, even though it wasn't on the menu. A woman from the back overheard and asked if he was Caribbean, which is a green flag. Ambiance: regular, most of the staff were in the back working and someone popped out to take my order after I moved up to the counter. I opted in for rice and peas (tasty, but a little wet) Being Caribbean when I say that the rice is wet, it means that it's mushy. We normally like our rice and peas grainy or dried well lol but I guess this works. It did still pack a lot of taste. The protein choice was jerk chicken which was diced and I was able to top it with jerk mambo sauce (very delicious) the jerk chicken was not spicy at all but perfectly seasoned and contained a good serving size. I'm a Jamaican cuisine subject matter expert, so I was too excited to learn that they were bringing an Angry Jerk location inside the city. Loved that they basically mixed everything that would come separate on a plate from a regular Jamaican spot, since I mix everything up anyway! I waited on the phone while she was trying to figure out how to refund me. Going back to the restaurant wasn't an option. I asked about getting my missing items delivered and apparently that was not option. After being on the phone for 15 minutes, she took my number and said she was going to call her manager. It has been almost a week and nothing from the restaurant. Tried the email to contact them from the website, but the email I sent bounced back. The food was delicious and the staff team was great. I ordered a bowl which in hindsight was a mistake as I would have preferred the entree meals. It was my first time there and it looked like one of those places where you ordered bowls so I did. Now that said the bowl provides an opportunity to taste many different topping which were all delicious. You have the option of fried rice, noodles, or rice and beans, I chose the rice and beans. I got the oxtail as my protein and it was very good. I added cabbage, potatoes, plantains, corn, and some other toppings the were recommended by the staff. The next time I will try the entree meal and some of the sides that accompany that option. The rum cake was good but it was $8 for the slice and was not $8 per slice good.
