So whomever cooked it, the heat was up too high because it blackened the plantain too fast. They should be golden, not charred. The Mac and cheese was absolutely phenomenal. I've had really good experiences with Angry Jerk so far. I really enjoy the bowls, as the portion is large and you get a lot of toppings. The jerk chicken is good, but on the sweeter side and not that spicy. The brown stew chicken is good as well. The Mac and cheese is very tasty, but also very oily. There's a large amount of oil that separates once it starts to cool, which is a little off-putting. The fried rice is pretty basic, but good, however, the rice and peas are bland. Food: I ordered the jerk chicken bowl ($15) and with taxes it came to ($18.60) pricey! But, I received a large amount of food. The bowls come with the option of rice and peas, lo mein, or fried rice. I opted in for rice and peas (tasty, but a little wet) Being Caribbean when I say that the rice is wet, it means that it's mushy. I'm a Jamaican cuisine subject matter expert, so I was too excited to learn that they were bringing an Angry Jerk location inside the city. Loved that they basically mixed everything that would come separate on a plate from a regular Jamaican spot, since I mix everything up anyway! After getting home, I discovered I was missing about a third of my order. When I called the store, the young woman on the phone was a little unprofessional and said, oh yeah we didn't give you your entire order. I waited on the phone while she was trying to figure out how to refund me. Going back to the restaurant wasn't an option. I asked about getting my missing items delivered and apparently that was not option. After being on the phone for 15 minutes, she took my number and said she was going to call her manager. It has been almost a week and nothing from the restaurant. Tried the email to contact them from the website, but the email I sent bounced back. The food was delicious and the staff team was great. I ordered a bowl which in hindsight was a mistake as I would have preferred the entree meals. It was my first time there and it looked like one of those places where you ordered bowls so I did. Now that said the bowl provides an opportunity to taste many different topping which were all delicious. You have the option of fried rice, noodles, or rice and beans, I chose the rice and beans. I got the oxtail as my protein and it was very good. I added cabbage, potatoes, plantains, corn, and some other toppings the were recommended by the staff. The next time I will try the entree meal and some of the sides that accompany that option. The rum cake was good but it was $8 for the slice and was not $8 per slice good. This restaurant has the WORST customer service EVER!!!!!!! I learned about this restaurant less than two weeks ago from an island friend. The first time I walked into the restaurant and had a pleasant dining experience. The portion sizes were filling, the staff was friendly, the restaurant was bustling with good vibes. I ordered a pulled oxtail bowl and it was pretty dope. This prompted me to order through GrubHub again the next very day and spread the word about this new Caribbean spot. This time, I ordered the mixed tacos--another pleasant experience. The mixed tacos were AMAZING. I was out of town for a week and craving more food from this restaurant and telling all my family and friends that I was taking them to Angry Jerk the next time they came into town. When I got back to DC yesterday, I ordered from this restaurant for a third time. This time I received someone else's order. I was disappointed, because although it was a lot of food in the wrong order, none of it was to my liking/a comparable substitute for my taste buds. And I felt really back for the other person who likely got my order because I bet she felt the same way. However, because of my previous two favorable experiences, I tried again today. This time, I received my mixed tacos without my meat protein. I was very upset and called the manager. After being hung up on three times, the manager eventually answered my call and indicated that the "phone died." Beyond this, he was quite nonchalant and made no attempt to properly resolve this matter outside of telling me they had been having issues with GrubHub, to call GrubHub for a refund, or come in for a replacement. (Fool me three times) I called in tonight to speak back to the manager to place a new order with the hope that he could ensure my order was prepared correctly and possibly throw in something extra for all the hassle. The first staff member (a male) I spoke with indicated the manager wasn't in at the moment, but he would contact him to have him to call me right back. After 20 minutes, I did not receive a call back, so I called back again. The staff member I spoke with indicated that he was surprised the manager had not called back yet and that he would loop back around to the manager and get right back to me. Another 20 minutes later still crickets. I phoned back 3-4 times--no answer. I called from my house phone--a female staff member answers. I attempted to speak to a manager or the last male staff member with whom I spoke. She indicated that a manager was on duty. I then explained that I was trying to place a GrubHub order and wanted to make sure they got it right. She goes, we don't take phone orders. I clarified that I was trying to place a GrubHub order. She still was perplexed. I asked her to speak the male representatives I spoke with earlier and she gave him the phone. Once he got on the phone he stated a manager was not on duty. I emphasized that that was fine--that I wanted to place an online order and ensure they got it correct. I again reiterated that I was trying to place an online order. This representative was dismissive and rude. He eventually hung up the phone--or maybe the "battery died" again. This lackluster customer service speaks volumes for a new restaurant. read more
