I don't know if Los Caballeros qualifies as a hole-in-the-wall establishment, but it certainly exceeded my expectations. I will admit that I am not always a big fan of Mexican food. However, I had a rare craving and Los Cabelleros exceeded my expectations. I am from DC, so I am not an expert on Mexican, but everything here feels authentic. We enjoyed the chips and salsa, quesadilla, queso, steak flautas, and mango drink. I wanted to get the churros so bad, but we were too full. So, we'll get them the next time. The service was friendly and informal. I wouldn't change a thing. Maybe I like Mexican afterall and just hadn't experienced authenticity. Either way, if I ever have a craving or have guests in town that want Mexican, this will be my go to spot. read more

Chili rilleno was a complete disappointment. It was all batter and no chile or cheese to be found. They added an automatic 20% tip for a party of 4, we feel the tip should be based on the service received. The waiter came once to take our order, to deliver the food, to take away our plates and give us the check. No refills, no check ups. That said the portions were generous. read more

A group of friends and I came here on a whim Saturday morning and this will absolutely become part of our restaurant rotation in D.C. Food was incredible. We got burritos, chimichangas, chicken tacos and all cleaned our plates. The steak burritos and chimichangas were the highlight because the meat was so so tender and flavorful. The ambiance was amazing too and the staff was so attentive and lovely! The Margaritas and Pina Coladas were so delicious and well priced. Came to Los Caballeros for a quick bite after walking around DC. Walking in, the worker was very kind, and welcoming. He sat us down right away, and accommodated our big party. Also, the decor around the restaurant was very nice. They had a lot of neon signs and it was very mexican themed with a lot of sayings. The food itself was just okay. I ordered the flautas, but they just weren't the best to me. If you're looking for authentic mexican food, this is not the place, but if you don't really care for authentic mexican taste it's okay for a quick bite. I also ordered a michelada which was pretty tasty, a little spicy but tasty. Overall a nice restaurant with good staff and good decor. If you don't care too much for that authentic mexican taste it's okay, but if you want authentic mexican taste/food i'd definitely look elsewhere. This is a great local spot that tastes like the Mexican food in LA. I can appreciate how the servers were attentive to what I wanted to order. They recommended margs + HH nachos/quesadillas. I definitely tasted the alcohol in the margs, and I will definitely go back again just for the margs (which means a lot for me as I don't drink that much) Indoors, this place has limited seating. Solid Tex Mex spot on Cap Hill. They have daily specials/deals including all day happy hour on Wednesdays which is when we visited. We were able to get a table for 4 but just barely - the place was packed! Even with the crowd though, service was quick and friendly. The chips and salsa were good as was my chicken chimichanga which also came with rice, beans, lettuce, pico, guac, and sour cream. Great spot! One of my Hg's go to spots. Great, authentic food. Vibes are chill and the guys working there are great. Definitely would recommend the street tacos with the refried beans and rice! Pretty standard Mexican place right next to the Capital and Library of Congress. The inside is bigger than you'd expect with a large dining space in the basement and a main dining space above. Just like anywhere else, they start you off with chips and salsa. The chips were fine and the salsa had a good kick. The menu is really extensive with a long list of tacos, burritos, enchiladas, chimichangas, and more. I got the chimichanga and really liked it. It was a heaping portion that was really good. I was disappointed with the tiny queso appetizer that came in a really small bowl. We were expecting something more fit to share. read more

I came here after SCOTUS arguments and a full out hunger after missing lunch. The place had a 4.4 score, so I trusted it. It did not disappoint. I had the combo plate with chicken enchilada and chile relleno. The rice, beans, and main were fantastic. The chips pretty average. (I like them saltier, but that's just me.) The salsa had a good bite. The marg was good. I shall return with an Hispanic friend. (I do not usually bring Hispanic friends to a Hispanic restaurant unless it's really good!) Let me say up front, I would highly recommend Los Caballeros! My wife and I spent Valentine's Day in DC and we really hadn't decided on a place to eat. My go to in a situation like that is Yelp. I looked for restaurants near us and, after some discussion, we chose Los Caballeros based on the previous reviews. Those reviews were spot on! Great food! My wife had the crispy tacos with a margarita. She loved it! I had the steak burrito & a coke (I'm driving!). The refried beans had some melted cheese on top (being originally from Wisconsin, that's a plus!) and the steak inside the burrito was well seasoned, which was a pleasant surprise as some places I've been cut that corner and the other places meat is bland. The restaurant is small but I did see a second seating area in the lower level that wasn't being used at the time. When we arrived, the main level was full of customers (a good sign) but it didn't feel crowded. The ambience was nice, the waiters were friendly and our food was brought to us very quickly! That may indicate the food we pre-prepared and then warmed up, but I'll say again both my wife and I loved the food! If it's being rewarmed, they're doing it right. If you're in that area of DC and looking for a place to eat, I would highly recommend Los Caballeros! read more

Not bad. We were visiting D.C. and craving some good Mexican food. Being from Texas we were sure we were taking a risk in finding something decent. But this place was about what we were looking for. Not great, but it hit the spot for what we were craving. Chips and salsa were good and that makes to breaks a Mexican food place for me. Only weird thing was the bathroom. You have to go down this staircase and through another room, but whatever. If in the area again though, would probably try to find a tad better ambience. read more

The best Mexican food we've ever had. Husband had the steak burrito, and I had cheese quesadillas. Both came with refried beans and rice, and we also added sour cream and Guacamole. Excellent. The food was given cold. The customer service was just as bad as how the food tasted. Crunchy, cold rice, stale chicken. Chips were also cold. Like what? The place wasn't even busy. How did we not get warm food AT LEAST. Gave us an attitude, which probably explains why they have a low star rating and no customers. Don't come eat here. read more

Poor experience. We are visiting and wanted good mexican food. This place had great reviews so we walked 2 miles to arrive at 8:25. Website and internet say they are open until 10. Neon sign outside says they are open until 10. They wanted to close early apparently so the waiter said they were about to close and that all the posted signs were "wrong". We said ok, we had a to go order for soup so should we order that with our food or at the end? He said he would put it in with the food. Fast forward 30 minutes and we have been sipping beer and chips/salsa and dude walks up with a to go bag with all our stuff. Nachos were actually cold so they had been sitting on those a while. I asked why he made the whole order to go. His response was that I had said everything was to go and what I said wasn't clear/confusing. Thats a load of crap, they kicked us and everyone out and within 60 seconds of us walking out the employees all left. Lazy, lying and cold food. Your experience may vary. Recently opened 11 December 2023 in the old La Lomita Dos location. Excellent Tex Mex food and drinks. Simple 2 page laminated food menu and the back page is drinks. Excellent food service and still has the coldest beer on the Hill; excellent margaritas. They have revamped the look and ambiance of the dining room and the downstairs is a lot brighter and cleaner. My friend and I came in for dinner tonight and it was great! We both got the Mariposa drink (rum, orange juice, pinapple juice, and strawberry) and chimichangas (steak for her and veggie for me). We loved our drinks and entrees. Service was great and the owner is very friendly and engaging. He check on us multiple times and gave us a few freebies to try, including tequila he infuses in the restaurant.
