Ive lived in the neighborhood for over 30 years and had never visited Tapper Pub; what a mistake that was! This place is great. Established in 1967, and it still has some of that vibe left. Really a great place for a draft and a sandwich if you are hungry. I had a Pastrami on Rye with Potato Salad. Really enjoyed it. The beer was also very cold! It's a bar with pool tables. One of Tampa's oldest bars in the Britton Plaza strip mall. Stopped here on a whim with some friends for a couple of drinks and enjoyed the place. Very nice and funny bartender with some great music playing. We did not eat here, but I have heard they make great sandwiches. The review may be a star higher if we ate here. This place is an institution! Been here for I don't know how many years.... But it's been a minute since I had been back... Finally made it in again since it was remodeled and with newer owners and I have to say, I like the refreshed and brighter look! They say they still have the best sandwiches in town - my friend ordered a Reuben to go and said it was fantastic! So, I believe it! The beer was cold, the bartender was friendly, chatty and fun. It has pool , as always, and several dart lanes. I might have to go back for darts!!! I was there yesterday to order a sandwich. Gina said no pork, tenderloin or jalapeño chips. I ordered a pastrami for $11.50 to go. When I got home I called Gina and said no cheese. I could have gone to wrights for 3.00 more and had a super sandwich. She told me it melted in the sandwich. Gina is rough and has a bad attitude. I will contest this bill on my credit card. Just want you to know how Gina is treating your customers. That is my last visit!!! read more

It's a cute place with darts, some video games, and a pool table. The seating is comfortable, the staff was super nice, they carry 2 NA beers and a wide draft selection, and their food was great! A great spot for game day especially. read more

I called in and ordered to go. The girl on the phone was very sweet! I ordered Ruben sandwich because it was the lunch special of the day and it did not disappoint. It was served on delicious rye bread and was packed with meat! I could only finish half. The potato salad was delicious too! I added the salt and pepper. The have really cleaned the inside of this bar up. They don't allow smoking inside which is nice because I usually stop in during work and don't like smelling like cigarettes. Definitely check this place out if you're in south Tampa. It seems like a fun neighborhood bar and they have a bunch of drink specials too. Lunch specials are $8 everyday. Grab you Sammie! I've rode by here & thought to check it out just never got around to it until today... I made time since I was in the area. When I saw they had food I was like yessss, I'm going! Gina greeted me with a warm down home smile, making me feel comfy immediately. I ordered the southwest turkey sandwich...absolutely divine!! The turkey is plenty & everything tasted fresh & delicious! Prices are still reasonable & it definitely feels like a locals gem... I will definitely return & they stay open late. I can't believe it's taken me this long to try this place. It's a dive bar that allows smoking (so not exactly my thing), but the food they serve is really good and cheap. I had the Reuben. It was well-toasted, full of corned beef and tangy sauerkraut. The potato salad it came with tasted homemade (good). The serving size was amazing for the price (only $7.95). So, this is my third visit to Tappers. I found it when looking for hole in wall bars. My main issue with place is smoking in there as it just permeates your clothes. The food not bad, the small grill area is behind bar. But, the highlight would be the cheap beer. A small pitcher is only $5.00, there is only 4 varieties on tap. But this bar is a straight throw back to the standard american dive bar. So, if you don't mind smelling of a cigarette and enjoy cheap American beer. This is the place for you. read more

Tappers Pub is probably the best kept secret in Tampa although being around for 40 plus years. I've been visiting this place through the years and the food and service has been spot on. But last visit before this one I went home and smelled like a pack of cigarettes. Not knocking the food or service but the smoke for me was a turn off seeing that I quit smoking ( for health reasons) . I recently heard that they were non smoking so I ventured back. Walked in was greeted by the bartender Gina. Was amazed by the transformation of this place . Clean and crisp .new tv's and sound system. . Really didn't think non smoking affected the regulars as they went in and out. Ordered the Pastrami on Rye and Potato salad hasn't change. The Olympic Games were playing on the TV's and the banter in the corner was contagious with the feeling you were at Cheers. Ordered the Corn beef sandwich to see if what's the same as I remember unbelievable hot and delicious. The locals were saying that they ordered the NFL ticket for the season. In the style of Brett N, why 5 stars? Because 1967. --- --- --- Much like the fictitious TV Cheers bar, every neighborhood has a local watering hole where everyone knows each other. For folks from the SOG, Bayshore Heights, Palma Ceia and Virginia Park areas, this is that place. This was the first bar I visited on my own accord, and first establishment in which I legally threw back some suds. As if that isn't nostalgic enough, the place was jam-packed full of friends and associates from my high school days, including the bar tenders. It was a fun time back, and a great place to catch up with the local gossip. That's how we used to do before the days of Facebook. I haven't lived in the SOG since 2004, but I still get down there from time-to-time, and when I do I think about the Tapper Pub. Honestly, I never stop by, but that changed last Saturday. I rolled in with La Chica, and I was surprised, but happy, to see it looked exactly as I remembered. Really, the only thing that changed was the prices on sandwiches. This is a unique place for sure and a good candidate for the Reality Show "BAR RESCUE"! I decided to read the reviews while I was sitting at the bar enjoying a $1.50 draft and also lost it when I read a few of the reviews that were pretty spot on! But on a positive note I had a Rueben sandwich prepared by Kay and it was very good! The kitchen is a 5 foot space behind the bar, the decor is in need of an update and there are a few Polaroid TVs which was a surprise and the pool tables are in rough shape! Dive?.......DIVE!?! What are you calling a dive? This is a nice neighborhood bar and grill more like Cheers than some true dives I have visited. I mean there is no one passed out drooling on the bar top, no signs of spitting on the floor, no drunken ranting, no edge of incipient violence, no barkeep with sawed-off baseball bat handy, no backpacks stowed under patrons' stools, no layers of dust & cobwebs coating ancient dollar bills pinned to the walls and ceiling rafters, no signs mandating shirts and no blunts.....and I can show you all that in some true local true dives. Pool tables and cheap beer do not a dive make. I and wife have enjoyed several fine sandwiches there, and the daily special usually include a draft beer or other drink. Nice selection of sandwiches made fresh... not rancid jars of red pickled eggs, pigs' feet, slim jims or a rack of stale chips. The usual lunch waitress is friendly and helpful....and does not ever cuss. Tapper is a dive bar and doesn't make any apologies for it. Where else can you go in South Tampa for cheap beer, awesome sandwiches, and the ability to smoke inside? I found this place with some friends when we weren't even looking for a bar, and have made it a point to come back often. It's a great, low-key break from other, more pretentious bars in the area. The Tapper pub has more heart and soul than larger, fancier bars I've been to. And a spirit of friendship and ambience that hasn't changed in the 20+ years I've been going. The spot truly has something magical to it. I've seen a wide range from old too young, and Rich to Poor mix and mingle and have good times together, in a way that only seems to exist in the movies. The only downside is it has spoiled me. And no matter where you're from, It makes you feel like a local, and even your first time there feels like an old friend. I have absolutely no idea how I ended up in this place but i'm glad I did. It is a dive in every sense of the word in the best possible way. It looks like a 70's diner that happens to be a bar. Full bar, smokey atmosphere, a couple doors down from a Publix, this place so is bad it's awesome. 2 pool tables, a friendly staff, regulars. Only downside is that they use the controlled pourers but they find ways around that if they like you. read more

The rating I gave it, however, is more objective. If you're looking for a place with cheap drinks, then this is your place! But if you like bars that aren't old and dingy, this is probably not your place. The service tends to be slow, since they usually only have one bartender, and the lighting is harsh. The young lady working Saturday night on 7/3/16 was very arrogant, condescending and too busy talking to the regular patrons. I had to wait twenty minutes in a very slow bar to wait for another order for myself and my girlfriend. When I asked for another drink for my girlfriend, she immediately copped an attitude. Wrong answer. There's too many bars in Tampa that'll treat their patrons with respect. You're better off buying a six-pack and taking it home without the patronizing attitude. read more

This places rating depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking to bum it in some yogis and a hat to meet a friend who needs to vent over drinks last minute, this is your place. At least the music gives it a positive atmosphere, but could afford to turn dine just a little. Can't hear anything in there. If you're looking for a cute/nice/hip place and at dressed up,this is more place. It looks like its existed since the 70s w no updates, isn't very clean and you will have w a very diverse crowd... Let's put it this way, not a place you'd want to meet someone to date and definitely seems to have a few odd balls that come there on the regular alone. One was even passing out at the bar.. Unfortunately, some of these odd balls are going to hit on you.. It meant my expectations for what I was looking for, which was low-key, low profile. If they'd invest in updating, cleaning and more staff, they'd have sooo many people coming there. Then I realized we were surrounded by hundreds of termite wings just in our small area. EVERYWHERE!!! Had to get up and leave.
